Holly Grigg-Spall is a well-known author and researcher in women's health whose work has inspired many to question the pharmaceutical industry's approach to birth control. This week on Hormonally Speaking, we have Abby Epstein, the acclaimed American film director and producer best known for her work on the documentaries "The Business of Being Born" "Until the Violence Stops,” and “Weed The People.” Epstein has won several awards for her documentaries, including the Audience Awards at Vancouver's Amnesty International Film Festival and Nashville Film Festival, as well as premiering at Sundance, Tribeca, and SXSW festivals. We discuss her and her business partner Ricki Lake's latest movie, “The Business of Birth Control”, which aims to shed light on the effects of hormonal contraceptives and the need for newer and better options. The documentary was inspired by the book "Sweetening the Pill" by Holly Grigg-Spall. We Cover So Much Including: ✨How the film was not made to promote a specific ideology, despite what some people think ✨That it was difficult to find experts in the field who would speak out against the status quo (but they still found some amazing ones!) ✨The fact that modern medicine has often failed women, leading to poor menstrual health, low body literacy, and high rates of endometriosis, PCOS, fibroids, anxiety, and depression ✨Why there is a need to evolve and develop solutions regarding women's health and bodies, especially in terms of contraception and long-term effects of medications ✨And so much more good stuff! Our conversation was powerful, and one you don't want to miss, especially if you are currently on birth control, or have children that are. You'll also want to see the movie ASAP - especially since March 8 is International Women's Day - which you can stream here. Use code “HORMONALLYSPEAKING” at check out to get half off. ABBY EPSTEIN made her film directing debut at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival with the documentary, V-Day: Until the Violence Stops, featuring Jane Fonda, Salma Hayek, and Rosie Perez. The film won the Audience Award at Vancouver's Amnesty International Film Festival and premiered on Lifetime Television, receiving both an Emmy and a Gracie Allen Award. In 2007, she teamed up with Ricki Lake for their widely acclaimed documentary, The Business of Being Born, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was released by New Line Cinema/Netflix and broadcast on Showtime. The film's success led to their follow-up series, More Business of Being Born, featuring Cindy Crawford, Alanis Morissette, Gisele Bündchen and Christy Turlington plus a book, Your Best Birth, published by Hachette. Next, the duo teamed up for Weed the People, which premiered at the 2018 SXSW Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the Nashville Film Festival. Weed the People was acquired by Netflix for distribution. Under their company, BOBB Films, Ms. Epstein and Ms. Lake produced the documentaries Breastmilk and The Mama Sherpas and are currently in production on The Business of Birth Control. Prior to her film work, Ms. Epstein directed Broadway theater, helming national tours and international productions of RENT and The Vagina Monologues. Ricki Lake (yes, THAT Ricki Lake) and Abby Epstein have worked together on some groundbreaking documentaries which you should watch immediately if you haven't yet done so. The Business of Being Born changed the way we looked at birthing options and medical interventions, and their most recent collaboration, The Business of Birth Control, examines the complex relationship between hormonal birth control and women's health and liberation. Both women are brilliant and down-to-earth, and we loved talking to them about their films, their friendship, and their aging journey. We hope we didn't humiliate ourselves when we asked them to "lick each other's buttholes", which is our weird way of saying "give each other complements". We tried our best to maintain our composure in the presence of artistic geniuses, but you should listen to the episode and let us know how we did. Let's talk about the business of birth control. You may follow Ricki Lake (yes, THAT Ricki Lake), and know that she is now making documentaries about issues particularly faced by women. Well this week I had her and her producing partner, and director, Abby Epstein on the show. And damn is this some explosive stuff. What are the health issues, both mental and physical, associated with hormonal birth control? We've known about them since the 70s and the subject is still considered taboo, why? This conversation sounds like it's gonna be dark, and it has its moments, but all in all, this is a beautiful chat, and I hope you enjoy it. Today on the show, Dr. Stu and Blyss chat with documentary filmmakers, Ricki Lake & Abby Epstein. The two share their wisdom and passion in a timeless discussion about two of their most prominent documentaries, The Business of Being Born & Business of Birth Control. Although the former was released in 2008, many of the themes within the film still ring true today. Recognizing that younger generations are more conscious about what they put into their bodies, and that they often question the motives of the medical establishment, Ricki and Abby feel poised that the impact of their work will sustain for years to come.In this episode of Birthing Instincts:The genesis of “The Business of Being Born”The inspiration behind “Business of Birth Control”How Stu's practices have developed over timeA bit about their documentary “Weed the People”Why it's important that women be informed about all hormonal side effects of birth controlThis show is supported by:Bamboobies | Go to INSTINCTS to get 25% off your first order!LMNT | Go to drinklmnt.com/birthinginstincts to get a free sample pack!Resources:Abby & Ricki's Film/Masterclass Discount Code: INSTINCTS50Connect with Abby & Ricki:Website: thebusinessof.lifeInstagram: @thebusinessofbirthcontrolAbby's Instagram: @abbyepsteinxoxoRicki's Instagram: @rickilakeTwitter: @TheBizOfFilmsFacebook: The Business of Birth Control Connect with Dr. Stu:Instagram: @birthinginstinctsWebsite: birthinginstincts.comConnect with Blyss:Instagram: @birthingblyssWebsite: birthingblyss.comThis show is produced by Soulfire Productions
Ricki and Abby have been making great films, two of which have impacted my career in profound ways. The Business of Being Born was the first, and their latest film, The Business of Birth Control, was the second. The film provides a second look at hormonal contraception, which is being offered to women of all ages for every gynecologic issue under the sun, far beyond merely "avoiding pregnancy". The film also highlights the power of education and fertility awareness methods in empowering women (and men) to better understand their bodies as an alternative to synthetic endocrine disruptors, which have wide-ranging consequence in a woman's body...You're going to LOVE this interview! The Business of Birth Control is a new documentary directed by Abby Epstein and produced by Ricki Lake, who achieved international acclaim for their revolutionary 2008 film, "The Business of Being Born". Abby joins us today to discuss why she and Ricki made their new film, which boldly shines a light on some of the severe side effects that accompany hormonal birth control, including death -- and the fact that congress, and the pharmaceuticals who make the pill, have long known about these adverse outcomes and have done nothing about it. Most disturbing of all, even though women have gathered, protested and demanded a safer and better-quality pill since the 1960s when these side-effects became known, there has been absolutely no advance in technology nor any improvement in safety standards in decades. In fact, the majority of the budget is allocated toward marketing and advertising. And while most bereaved families have been gagged in exchange for financial settlements, in the film we meet the parents of those who refused and who are demanding change. Did you know a full fifty-percent of women who go on the pill come off it due to side effects? This only drives up the risk of unwanted pregnancies. We also discuss the lack of informed consent and unnecessary risks taken with women and young, prepubescent girls, who are encouraged to go on the pill to clear up acne. Abby gives us an insider's look into how the film is spun in the media as controversial and is mischaracterized as "anti-birth control" when the opposite is true: The Business of Birth Control is overt in its demand for safer birth control and more education; and, for those who wish to come off the pill, it seeks to empower women to understand their fertility cycles so they can choose the birth control that's safest and most effective for them. Abby and Ricki have been on a busy media tour and we're so grateful they came on the Down to Birth Show to invite us into this important conversation regarding women's health, choice, autonomy and consent. To view The Business of Birth Control, visit the website and use promo code DOWNTOBIRTH to stream at 50% off. In the legacy of their groundbreaking documentary THE BUSINESS OF BEING BORN which revolutionized the way people think about childbirth, filmmakers Abby Epstein and Ricki Lake unpack the power structures surrounding the reproductive health industry complex. Sixty years after the pill revolutionized women's emancipation, THE BUSINESS OF BIRTH CONTROL examines the complex relationship between hormonal birth control and women's health and liberation. The documentary traces the feminist movement to investigate and expose the pill's risks alongside the racist legacy of hormonal contraception and its ongoing weaponization against communities of color. Weaving together the stories of bereaved parents, body literacy activists and femtech innovators, the film reveals a new generation seeking holistic and ecological alternatives to the pill while redefining the meaning of reproductive justice. Director Abby Epstein (Weed the People, Until the Violence Stops) joins us for a conversation on the confluence of historically poor understanding of women's health, racial and gender-biased research, industry driven mis-information, and profit driven business interest that have warped the vision for what is best for women. When you say, “The Pill” there is no debate about what pill you are talking about. Birth control pills have been a tool of the women's liberation movement for over 60 years. Birth control in general is as ubiquitous in our society as aspirin – and seems as harmless. But what do we really know about how hormonal contraception works and impacts our bodies? Today's guests, Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein, have a new documentary, “The Business of Birth Control,” which examines the complex relationship between hormonal birth control and women's health and liberation. Weaving together the stories of bereaved parents, body literacy activists, and femtech innovators, the film reveals a new generation seeking holistic and ecological alternatives to the pill while redefining the meaning of reproductive justice. Guest Bios Abby Epstein started her career as a theatre director with her own production company, Roadworks Productions, which is based in Chicago. Roadworks Productions was founded in 1992, and the company had seen much success in the mid 1990s. After directing a few productions in Chicago, Abby moved to New York to be an assistant director on the production of Rent. She then worked on The Vagina Monologues with Eve Ensler. Epstein directed her first documentary Until the Violence Stops, a film about the impact of The Vagina Monologues on a global scale. Five years later, Abby Epstein released The Business of Being Born in 2008. Much of Abby Epstein's film career deals with birth and sex. Her film Until the Violence Stops premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004 and won an Emmy after its screening on Lifetime. The Business of Being Born debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2007 and was released theatrically in 2008. In October 2018, Epstein released Weed the People, a documentary buoyed by hopeful experiences with medical marijuana, that she worked on for 6 years with Ricki Lake as an executive producer. Pop culture icon Ricki Lake has built an extraordinary career. The world first met Ricki in 1988 as Tracy Turnblad in John Waters' beloved film Hairspray. Ricki went on to appear in other films such as Cry-Baby, Cecil B. Demented, Serial Mom, and Gemini. She also starred on television in China Beach and King of Queens. At the impressive age of twenty-four, Ricki became the youngest talk show host in history. For 11 years, her long-running show was met with unprecedented success and changed daytime television forever. She went on to win an Emmy for Best Talk Show Host for her work on the reboot of The Ricki Lake Show. In her intimate book, “Never Say Never: Finding a Life That Fits,” Ricki took readers behind the scenes of her troubled childhood—filled with food issues, abuse, and an unabashed yearning for a better life outside of her suburban home. She pulled back the curtain on her talk show and her early days as a “fat actress.”

As many of you know, Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein first collaborated on their landmark documentary, The Business of Being Born—a grassroots phenomenon that has become required viewing for expectant parents and childbirth educators. The revelation that pregnant people were unaware of their childbirth options ignited a passion in Ricki and Abby to lift the veil on other areas of reproductive health. After examining birth culture in America, they began investigating the business of hormonal contraceptives and the lack of birth control options. We are in a moment where women, non-binary, and trans folks are seeking body literacy and empowering forms of healthcare. The more informed we are about our bodies and our choices, the more we can advocate for ourselves.

Abby Epstein and Ricki Lake's award-winning, critically acclaimed documentary The Business of Being Born debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2007. With over 5 million views, an online community of over 100,000, and more than 10 million press imprints, it is often hailed as the “must-see” film among mothers-to-be. Looking at the complex relationship of hormonal contraception to women's health and liberation, their latest documentary, The Business of Birth Control, features the stories of activists, doctors, and scientists who are blowing the whistle on how hormonal birth control affects the mind and body. It is shocking, empowering, and heartbreaking all at the same time. About 13 years ago I watched The Business of Being Born and I was blown away. I remember thinking, “I have to figure out a way to work with these women.” At the time I had no idea how I was going to make that happen. A year later, I moved to New York City, got my health coach certification, and met others in the women's health space, including Holly Grigg Spall, the author of Sweetening the Pill, who was trying to get Ricki and Abby to turn her book into a movie. She introduced me to Abby and we've been friends ever since. I pitched in as much as I could over the years to get this film made and it's finally here! You can catch me at the beginning of the film, talking about the pill and ovulation. In this episode, we talk about our experiences with hormonal birth control, the far-reaching impact our hormones have on our health, why it was difficult to make this movie, how birth control has been used against women of color, the ongoing fight for reproductive justice, and so much more! Cheryl Kindred is a Newborn Care Specialist, Gentle Sleep Trainer, and former Post-Partum and Birth Doula. Inspired by the book "The Midwife's Apprentice," at age 9, she wanted to be a midwife or work with babies somehow. Her first job was as a babysitter at age 11, and she found it incredibly rewarding. About a decade later, she began to make her commitment to the "well-rounded and comprehensive support to new families" even before becoming a mom herself. Of course, she finds babies amazing, wholesome, and the purest of souls; but she also wanted to make a difference with taking care of the baby and rewriting what's normal with being a parent. She has helped hundreds of adults with the transition to parenthood, with the importance of sleep of new parents and babies, essentially assisting the new parents with the totally abnormal experience of having a baby, and so much more. We also get into the disparities of maternity and birthing care with minorities and those in rural communities that is still an ongoing major issue, normalizing how we refer to the "private" body parts, and the importance of consent. * This is a very important episode. * (Plus: two special guests make their podcasting debut!) Join me for a dynamic conversation with Abby Epstein and Ricki Lake about their new documentary - The Business of Birth Control. Looking at the complex relationship of hormonal contraception to women’s health and liberation, their film features the stories of activists, doctors and scientists who are blowing the whistle on how hormonal birth control affects the mind and body. The film revisits the 1970’s Nelson Pill Hearings, where feminists disrupted the proceedings to demand informed consent and follows a courageous group of bereaved parents who are fighting to get warning labels on Yaz and NuvaRing fifty years later.

We are always talking about global change, social awareness, and beyond. Today we are talking about the power of marijuana, real medicine that has been used for a very long time in the healing world.
It's been 2 years since tragedy struck Ricki Lake's life, but the pop culture icon has chosen to focus her efforts into healing and independent filmmaking. Welcome back for another episode of the Green Rush! In this episode, Lewis and Anne sit down with famed talk show host Ricki Lake and respected indie director Abby Epstein to talk about their emotional documentary Weed the People. The documentary explores how cannabis may just be the most innovative cancer treatment available, yet one […]
That’s the question scientists and advocates have been asking for decades. Ricki Lake’s moving new documentary, Weed The People, seeks the answer. If you've been following this podcast you know that cannabis doesn’t cure cancer. Nothing does -- cancer is a broad description of over 200 different disease states that can be treated with varying rates of success. But you also know that cannabis does do amazing things like cause some cancers cells such as glioblastoma (a fast-moving brain cancer that oncologists call “The Terminator”) to commit suicide. It also works synergistically and somewhat mysteriously to up the life extending outcomes of certain chemotherapies. What isn’t known is why the US government restricts access to cannabis meds and why it wantonly bans most of the research in this country.Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein’s new documentary, Weed The People, examines this cruel reality by following the lives of 5 kids with brain cancer (and their fraught families). In other words, kids with death sentences for whom conventional chemotherapies have failed. The filmmakers followed these families for upwards of 7 years. Four of the five kids are alive today. Some of them are thriving. 'Nuf said. The film was spawned when Ricki’s husband, Christian, received a cancer diagnosis. He passed away, but in their search for alternative therapies, he came upon some remarkable cannabis healers, among them Mara Gordon, founder of Aunt Zelda’s (she is featured on Episode 5 of our podcast). Ricki made it her mission to finish Christian's search and tell the story of so many others in the same situation. She, of course, is no stranger of advocacy film making. In 2008 she and Abby made the groundbreaking and widely heralded The Business of Being Born about the institutionalization of childbirth, which caused millions of women to shift to home birth. As of this writing, the Weed the People is showing in just a few markets (100% on Rotten Tomatoes so far), but the filmmakers are making it available to people who want to hold screenings in communities around the country. Listen to our great interview for details on how to arrange a screening and be sure to watch the trailer.
In their new documentary Weed the People, executive producer Ricki Lake and director Abby Epstein explore the impact that medical cannabis is having on pediatric cancers, as well as the difficulties parents, doctors, and caregivers face in putting these treatments into action. We talked with Lake and Epstein about their experience making the film, what it's taught them about the potential of medical cannabis, and how that potential squares with the booming recreational cannabis market and how it colors perceptions of cannabis.
Actor / TV personality Ricki Lake and Producer / Director Abby Epstein talk about their powerful new documentary WEED THE PEOPLE - how Ricki's experience with water birth sparked their first doc THE BUSINESS OF BEING BORN - and their process of creating and selling documentaries. www.weedthepeoplemovie.com
Ricki Lake is a woman who has lived a million pop cultural lives. She first found fame in John Waters’ most commercially successful films, Hairspray, Cry Baby, and Serial Mom. She then took over the small screen with her own daytime talk show from 1992 to 2004. And today, she’s known for making documentaries alongside her filmmaking partner Abby Epstein—first with The Business of Being Born, and now with their new film, Weed the People. In this episode, both Ricki and Abby reveal what its like to change the world by capturing life’s most intimate moments.
Abby Epstein's career has been a rich and rewarding one. It began in 1992 in Chicago when she formed her own theatrical company. She directed several plays there before moving to New York to work on "Rent" and "The Vagina Monologues." Then in 2004 she moved into film and 3 years later formed a partnership with Rikki Lake. They've made several documentaries together including the award-winning, "The Business of Being Born." Their latest collaboration - "Weed The People." It explores the use of cannabis for children diagnosed with cancer. Lots to talk about with this accomplished socially conscious and creative woman.
The informative and heartwarming new documentary film, Weed the People examines why marijuana / cannabis has been off-limits to America’s doctors and researchers for the past 80 years, despite decades of science from on the plants anti-cancer properties. Armed with only these laboratory studies, desperate parents obtain cannabis oil from underground sources to save their children from childhood cancers. “Weed the People” follows these families through uncharted waters as they take their children’s survival into their own hands. Some of their miraculous outcomes beget the unsettling question at the heart of the film: If weed is truly saving lives, why doesn’t the government want people to access it? Abby Epstein has been producing and directing documentaries for over ten years with her partner, Ricki Lake. Their first collaboration was the celebrated feature documentary The Business of Being Born, which premiered at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. The Business of Being Born enjoyed a successful theatrical release and had its broadcast premiere on Showtime. Director Abby Epstein talks about the racist, xenophobic history of marijuana in America, the draconian laws and the federal government’s resistance to allowing medical research, despite holding a number of marijuana patents and the courageous journey of parents trying to save the lives of their cancer stricken children. June 30, 2015 PCOS Diva has a fundamental purpose of empowering and educating women about their health and fertility. That is why I am thrilled to get behind a Kickstarter campaign to turn Holly Grigg Spall’s book, Sweetening the Pill: or How We Got Hooked on Hormonal Birth Control into a documentary. Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein plan to make this thought-provoking book into a documentary. The goal is to empower and educate women so they can make an informed choice about their fertility and birth control. Too often, women are given the birth control pill as a first line treatment for PCOS. They are never informed of the countless side effects they can expect while on the pill or the post-pill syndrome they can expect when they stop taking it. We are rarely educated by physicians about the rhythms of our body and how to regulate our cycles with lifestyle choices and supplements. I had the opportunity to interview author Holly Grigg- Spall this week. Listen to my interview with Holly and learn about: The benefits and side effects of hormonal birth control (the pill and its cousins) Difference between a period on the pill and a period on your own Regulating your period without pharmaceuticals What is body literacy and why it is important How you can help make this documentary project happen!
On today’s show we will be talking about the pill, actually, a book called “Sweetening the Pill” by Holy Grigg-Spall. In the interview, Holly and I talk about my experience with birth control and how scary it was. The reason I want to talk about this today is because millions of healthy women take a powerful drug every day, from mid-teens to menopause. Few know the effects or potential side effects. Contrary to cultural myth, birth control pills impact every organ and function of the body and yet most women don’t even think of it as a drug. Depression, anxiety, rage, panic attacks, are just a few of the effects of being on the pill. When the pill was first released, it was thought that women would not submit to taking a medication when they weren’t sick. Now the pill is making women sick! Holly Grigg-Spall’s book that we are going to talk about has inspired a documentary! Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein, the producers of “The Business of Being Born” are producing a new documentary, and Holly is the consulting producer and writer. This is a great book and great interview. If you are on birth control pills or any other hormonal birth control, you will definitely want to listen to this episode!
On this episode of The Period Party, Nat & Nicole talk with Holly Grigg-Spall, a revolutionary activist in the birth control movement. Here are the highlights of what we cover during this episode: Why its challenging to talk openly about health problems caused by the Pill. How the Pill might be harming your health and how to start using the latest birth control technology in place of old-school hormonal birth control. How a documentary on the effects of hormonal birth control could shift the current perspective on this topic. The new birth control revolution. Holly breaks down what this is and why all women need to be on board. Holly Grigg-Spall is the author of "Sweetening the Pill: Or How We Got Hooked On Hormonal Birth Control" and a consulting producer on the documentary it has inspired, from filmmaking team Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein. Her work on women's health issues has featured in Marie Claire, Elle, Cosmopolitan, New York magazine, the Sunday Times, the Guardian, the Independent, the Washington Post and on BBC and CBC radio, amongst others. In addition, she is a strong supporter of gay and lesbian rights working with various organizations such as The Trevor Project. Lake is also the proud mother of 19-year-old Milo and 15-year-old Owen. “They are both creative, compassionate and independent thinkers,” Lake comments. “Motherhood is the most challenging and the most rewarding part of my life.” ABBY EPSTEIN has been producing and directing documentaries for over ten years with her partner, Ricki Lake. BOBB Films is currently in production on two feature docs: Weed the People and Sweetening the Pill. In addition to her work as an independent filmmaker, Abby has produced pilots, promos and online videos for many companies including Universal Films, Original Productions, Freemantle Media, Fusion and Discovery Health. Fertility Friday Radio | Fertility Awareness for Pregnancy and Hormone-free birth control
Laura is a veteran sexual and reproductive health advocate who has worked for and volunteered with Planned Parenthood-affiliated organizations in Canada since 1986. She was a Columnist for Troy Health Media, and she is the new editor-in-chief for Re: Cycling, the blog of the Society for Menstrual Cycle Research. As many of you know, I recently interviewed Holly-Grigg Spall, and in that interview, we spoke about her book Sweetening the Pill or how we got hooked on hormonal birth control. Laura actually wrote the forward to this book, and she has also publicly shown her support for the upcoming documentary that Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein are doing based on the book. And she has also charted her cycles for 27 years. Today we will be talking about the health implications of using the Fertility Awareness Method that go beyond the practical aspects of having a hormone-free method of birth control, why rejecting the pill is actually not "anti-feminist" and why it is important for women to have access to accurate information about all forms of birth control regardless of what method they eventually decide to rely on. Topics discussed in today's episode Is it possible for women to learn to use the Fertility Awareness Method confidently and accurately? Why a "possibly fertile day" is actually a fertile day The role that intention plays in the effectiveness of the Fertility Awareness Method The role that the Fertility Awareness plays in helping women to learn body literacy The implications of placing young women on the hormonal birth control before their menstrual cycles have fully matured The importance of helping women transition off of hormonal contraceptives successfully Why questioning "the pill" is not actually "anti-feminist" The benefits of having the ability to understand and interpret your fertile signs Why the pill doesn't "regulate" a woman's cycle or "mimic pregnancy," and what it is actually doing to your hormones Why Laura has publicly endorsed the upcoming documentary Sweetening The Pill by Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein In this podcast episode, Laura described the hormonal changes that a woman experiences naturally throughout her menstrual cycle, and how that changes when a woman is taking hormonal contraceptives. For reference, here is an image of the hormonal cycle during a healthy menstrual cycle. You'll notice that a woman has high levels of estrogen in the first half of her menstrual cycle before ovulation, and high levels of progesterone in the second half of her cycle after she ovulates. Giving Austin Labor Support (GALS) brings another exciting documentary to the Austin community. BREASTMILK is the latest film from Executive Producers Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein, the creative minds behind The Business of Being Born (2008). Why do breasts and breastfeeding excite such interest, controversy, rage and passion? Breastfeeding has made a lot of headlines lately – from the controversial photo on the cover of Time magazine toWhoopi Goldberg’s public bashing of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, to military moms being criticized for breastfeeding in uniform. Our society is enamored with “baby bumps” but what follows the birth is a different, slightly messier story. Lactose intolerance takes on a whole new meaning as it relates to women, their breasts and their milk. The act of breastfeeding has been immortalized by great artists all over the world, so why are we disturbed by contemporary images of women nurturing children? Why do we have to struggle to normalize this human mammalian behavior? Join us as I speak with Karli Heatherington of Gals and Krisdee & Gail of
