Have you ever felt like if you can't do it perfectly, it's not worth doing at all? Whether it's meal tracking, a workout routine, or your body image goals—perfectionism creeps in and convinces us that anything less than a 10/10 just doesn't count. In this powerful conversation, Shaela sits down with Brittany Braswell, RD, to unpack how perfectionism shows up in our health, our habits, and even our spiritual life. Together, they explore how striving keeps us stuck in fear, shame, and all-or-nothing cycles—and how God invites us to walk in peace and freedom instead. Brittany shares how perfectionism can masquerade as control, and how fear often fuels our obsession with getting it “just right.” But as Christian women, we're not called to carry that burden. Instead, we're invited to release the pressure and start living from grace—not guilt. Whether you struggle with obsessiveness around food, pushing yourself to never miss a workout, or falling into apathy when things feel “off track,” this episode will help you find your footing again—with truth, Scripture, and simple next steps. You'll Learn: What perfectionism really looks like in your fitness & food habits How to identify sneaky “rules” that create pressure & guilt Why fear is often the root of performance-driven health How to start choosing progress over pressure in a faith-filled way A practical framework for shifting from control to stewardship

We have guest Expert Brittany Braswell, RDN, LD on the podcast again today and she is talking about core and limiting beliefs. You may be wondering "what even are limiting beliefs" Well HAPPY DAY! Brittany breaks that down so well in this episode and why core and limiting beliefs matter in your life but specifically in the space of your health and your fitness journey. In this episode we see: what limiting beliefs are what core beliefs are why these even matter in our lives examples of limiting beliefs: carbs are bad, fat makes you fat, I should exercise every single day, I have to "earn" rest," I'm always going to be unhappy with my body, this is as good as it gets Harsh truth: no where in scripture does it say anything about loving your body - but that doesn't mean you hate it either why patience is needed in both spiritual growth but also in addressing our limiting beliefs why willpower & discipline AREN'T actually the key to unlocking your health and fitness journey or overcoming you're limiting beliefs example of how limiting beliefs affect us - it's like a funnel: We have this limiting belief It affects our thoughts Which effects our emotions and how we feel which affects our perceived identity which then creates the behavior of how they act and what they do we need to get to the point of asking the question "WHY?" "where did this behavior come from and why am I stuck in this cycle of it?" Four umbrella categories of beliefs: worthiness related beliefs example: comparison, lack boundaries, constantly trying or striving to prove yourself, distraction root issue: misplaced identity practical tip: dive into your purpose and who you are in Christ beliefs around your capabilities example: lack of confidence, imposter syndrome, physical abilities, over-striving root issue: operating out of a fixed mindset or a growth mindset practical tip: notice and name wins beliefs around control example: procrastination, perfectionism, difficulty empathizing, unwillingness to delegate root issue: lie/illusion that we can and should be in control of practical tip: action brings clarity beliefs around possibilities example: fear of failure, self doubt, lack of persistance root issue: lack of faith and hope practical tip: when you notice limiting beliefs come up - turn it into an open-ended questions Resources mentioned in the podcast: The True Fight in Our Health Journey Episode on identity Core Beliefs Worksheet Download How to connect with Brittany: Instagram - @brittanybraswellrd Website - www.brittanybraswellrd.com/services The Joy-Filled Eater Podcast - www.brittanybraswellrd.com/podcast

We are approaching Lent, a forty-day period of preparation for celebrating Jesus' resurrection at Easter. It's a time rich with spiritual significance. It also happens to be a time when the ideas of self-deprivation and fasting can get emphasized in faith-based circles. The tricky part is that both diet culture messages and faith-based messages at times explicitly and implicitly emphasize food restriction and/or self-deprivation. This Lent I have the privilege of being a part of a teaching series called “Losing the Lies for Lent.” The lie I am tackling is the message that “self-deprivation makes us holier or brings us closer to God.”In today's episode, I am so grateful to be joined by Registered Dietitian, Brittany Braswell, to do a deeper dive with me on this particular lie. Brittany is a non-diet dietitian who approaches nutrition and wellness from a holistic standpoint, including physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional wellbeing. She specifically works with women who struggle with disordered eating and negative self-image. Overall, Brittany is passionate about helping her clients establish a healthy relationship with food and body to improve their quality of life and walk free and fearlessly in their purpose. I can't wait for you to listen to our conversation. I hope it brings you closer to that kind of freedom.
