In Episode 90 of The Steak Lad Experience, I sat down with my friend Lachy Oliver. Lachy is an ancestral coach with a focus on both weight loss & health optimisation, a topic which is of great interest to me! We connected through social media and given our similar interests it was only natural to make a conversation happen whilst he was visiting Melbourne. During our discussion we touched on why 2025 was the best year of his life, how he naturally overcame Crohn's disease, additional eye opening life events that inspired his current lifestyle, how anxiety/depression helped shape him into the man he is today, the fulfilment he gets from helping others take control of their health and much much more. This conversation was a long time coming and I genuinely hope you enjoy what will go down as my final interview for 2025!!! If you liked this podcast, I would greatly appreciate 5 stars on Spotify/Apple Podcasts or a subscription on YouTube, the support I get makes it so much easier to keep going!!! Much love, Darcy.Lachy Oliver - InstagramDarcy Tobin (The Steak Lad) - YouTube, Instagram, Tik Tok & FacebookWatch This Ep on YouTube - https://youtube/OliverEmail - darcy@thesteaklad.comWebsite - thesteaklad.comUse the discount code “PODCAST” for 10% off my Beef Tallow via thesteaklad.com

Christopher shares his inspiring journey of overcoming ulcerative colitis and embracing a mission to help men reclaim their health, vitality, and purpose. This episode is a powerful call to action for men ready to live intentionally, with honesty, strength, and holistic wellness at the forefront. The Stallion Protocol: Realigning Men with Health and PurposeChristopher Zaino believes the root of many health struggles for men is denial. From ignoring symptoms to suppressing emotions, men are often conditioned to be self-reliant to a fault. Zaino advocates for radical honesty as the first step to reclaiming physical and emotional well-being. He urges men to stop brushing off fatigue, digestive issues, or burnout—and to schedule regular checkups and address both physical and emotional health head-on.Beyond honesty, Zaino emphasizes understanding one's biochemistry. Imbalances in testosterone, dopamine, and cortisol often explain symptoms like low energy, mood swings, and lack of drive. Through comprehensive blood work, lifestyle adjustments, and expert guidance, men can restore balance and reignite their performance and purpose. His protocol also prioritizes movement and mindset—integrating daily cardio and uplifting inputs like podcasts to elevate both body and mind.Another powerful pillar of Zaino's philosophy is vulnerability. By sharing his story, he discovered deep healing—and encourages men to do the same. He believes community, connection, and service are vital parts of wellness. Whether it's checking in with friends, helping others, or scheduling self-care as a leadership practice, Zaino's message is clear: real strength lies in self-awareness, action, and service.About Christopher ZainoChristopher Zaino is a renowned speaker, former professional bodybuilder, and the Founder of The Stallion Project. https://youtu.be/xu8FrQEJLHI?si=F2ne2UvWI4vNYFiO (1) RECLAIMING YOUR HEALTH     Food is a very touchy subject. I get it. I grew up in a culture where pretty much everything was a sin, EXCEPT eating. It was all we could do, and we did it enthusiastically! (2) But now we are living with the consequences. Just listen to the prayer requests in any given church. The majority is for sicknesses and illnesses. And most of it is for chronic disease that we have brought on ourselves: heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, memory loss, cancer, and the list goes on. Most of these are preventable diseases.     So the big questions is this: Why do we avoid talking about food and health and how it affects us? When information is presented to us, why do we ignore, laugh, or dismiss the information? The answer is simple…we don't want to hear. Health is not dealt with in the church. We think God will take care of me, He's got this. And we keep doing what everyone else is doing.  (3) Romans 12:1 says to present your bodies a living sacrifice….”living” means be among the living, enjoy real life, active, fresh, strong, efficient. Holy, acceptable, meaning well pleasing, fully agreeable. We can't help the body of Christ if we don't take the time to take care of ourselves. We need to be able to function in the capacity that God has called us to.     We are in a war, both physical and spiritual. There are two types of people in a war…..Those who are sucked into it without realizing. Think of the Jews led into the camps. And those who are aware of what's going on around them and are ready to respond….Think of Pearl Harbor. There was no denying war that day.     One way to stop an enemy is to make them believe they are not in a fight. The enemy is a deceiver. The Bible calls him a lion seeking whom he may devour. Who does the lion attack….the one who is not paying attention. He deceives us into thinking everything is ok.     And that is what is happening in the war for our health. It's called the Great American Food Fraud.     You may say, “What's the big deal? I ate fast food, candy, etc, growing up and I turned out ok.” The food that we grew up with in the 70's and 80's is NOT the same food on the shelves today. McDonald's fries used to have 3 ingredients: potatoes, beef tallow, salt. Now they have 12 ingredients! (4) The truth is we can't eat those same foods and neither should our kids. The truth is that the foods we buy in America are completely different from the same food bought in almost every other country.  Why? The chemicals, ingredients and dye are not allowed in their food. That's why you can take a trip to another country, like Italy, eat all their pasta, and feel fine and probably not even gain weight on your trip.     Food has become a science. A very precise, targeted, science. That box of cereal, bag of chips, soda, or whatever it may be, has had a considerable amount of time and money spent on it being studied, developed, tested, and advertised. All with one goal in mind: to get you to buy it. Not just once, but over and over again. The goal is not to make it nourishing for your body, but to get you hooked on the flavor by any means possible. That includes adding chemicals, sugar, artificial colors, forever chemicals, and anything else to appeal to your appetite. (5) I John talks about the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. It's almost like the advertising companies read the Bible!  (6) In the early 90's, the American Dietetic Association was funded by Sara Lee, M&M's, and McDonalds. Today it's even worse.     So who is behind all this? (7) The kids of the 80's were the last generation to grow up without social media. During that time, the Tobacco companies saw the writing on the wall, that the truth was coming out that smoking caused cancer. They had the best marketing machine. They could market to adults and make them buy something that was not good for them. Remember the Marlboro Man? Camel Joe?

In my work, I'm always supporting people on their journey to better metabolic health, and it's fascinating how new themes emerge each week. This week, I noticed many patients getting caught up in what I call the “vocal minority.” These are the people who share their extreme results with medications—often loudly and visibly—leading others to feel like their own experiences are "less than." This comparison can leave them discouraged and dissatisfied with their progress, as they measure themselves against these atypical stories. In this episode, I discuss how comparing ourselves to the vocal minority can derail our progress. Instead of fixating on extreme results, I invite you to focus on your unique health journey. I'll share real patient stories that highlight steady, meaningful progress and offer practical strategies for setting realistic expectations and achieving attainable goals. The discussion in this episod focuses on achieving better health and managing type 2 diabetes by making conscious choices about what we eat. It emphasizes that there is no one-size-fits-all diet plan; instead, the key is to stop consuming unhealthy, processed foods. The mindset advocated is one of setting clear, measurable goals and understanding why those goals matter. By constantly asking, "Does this decision make me proud?" when making food choices, individuals can align their actions with their health goals and build self-belief. The importance of this mindset is illustrated through a client explaining that despite decent blood sugar levels after eating pizza, she felt unsatisfied due to her lack of pride in her decision. I liked that book so much I asked Dr. Ilene if she'd come talk to us about her other book and she agreed.    Here are the 3 Takeaways:   1.    Pleasing behaviors usually start as a way for us to feel less anxious about our lives. 2.    It's not selfish to be self-full; seek a health balance between being selfless and taking care of your own needs.   3.   To help overcome any fear you might have about confrontation, don't overestimate other people's anger – they could be fine hearing what you have to say.   We hope you'll enjoy this episode!   As mentioned in the episode:  Dr. Ilene's book, When It's Never About You   Dr. Ilene's book, The Forgiveness Workbook Ep 61 Alignment and Forgiveness, and the Forgiveness Workbook   More about Dr. Ilene:   Ilene S. They are not fun. You have to suffer through them, and you feel deprived. And the challenge with a diet though is you have a start date and an end date. And most people will do everything to whatever degree they can in between that timeframe. The problem with that is it ends.   Cynthia Brace Focusing on lifestyle is how you do that. And it can tweak, you can change, you can change, like, you know, you have certain goals, and they'll change throughout your life. So, you just tweak what you're doing. That's why focusing on lifestyle is so much easier. In the long run   Cynthia Brace So yeah, it's again, awareness of your thoughts in your belief how you're talking to yourself. Because a lot of modern people are like, super mean to themselves when they talk about. So, it's more of those internal thoughts and realizing what they're saying, because if you said those things to your best friend, you wouldn't be best friends anymore.   ABOUT CYNTHIA BRACE: Cynthia Brace is a whole health and lifestyle coach for motivated people. Through her share of frustrating health challenges, she became a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, and author of Redesign Your Interior | 8 Steps to Reclaiming Your Health and Creating a Balanced Life.
