Andy Hooper is the CEO and Co-Founder of Hart House in Los Angeles. TAKE TWO I just have to tell you guys, this was like the 116 pages episode. With the lack of labor available to operators, chains like McDonalds, Burger King, and others have now gone to drive thru only models that save on labor cost by closing restaurant dining rooms, which means less overhead for maintenance and cleaning, while allowing for a better end product. But what about Five Guys, Chipotle and Cafe Rio ...chains where the consumer has to walk in to customize their order, and where the building has no drive thru option? Not long after I married my husband, Geoff, we moved to Chicago, so that he could attend medical school. We met a couple at church (not the Smiths pictured here) who had been married 8 years. I remember thinking, “8 Years! What must that be like?” I couldn’t fathom EIGHT years—that seemed like eons away. And now here we are, we’ve been at this marriage thing for nearly thirty years and it seems like a flash in the pan. In this episode I’m joined by my husband and our very good friends, The Smiths—Randy and Diane (pictured here). Not long after we were settled in Chicago, I got a call from Diane. They had had plans to move to California, so Randy could make working with his brother-in-law an official position, but they found themselves living in the corporate apartment on the north shore of Lake Michigan. We were already fast friends so this was news that was as delightful as it was unexpected. We spent about four years together in the windy city and it was during those years that our friendship as couples—and future families was solidified. In this episode, we all sit down together to reminisce and to talk marriage. We discuss topics and questions submitted by friends and followers via Instagram. What does Cafe Rio, SkyWest Airlines and Red Hills Golf Course have in common? Ralph Atkin. Ralph Atkin was instrumental in not only starting these successful businesses, but starting them in southern Utah. In this podcast, we’ll learn of Ralph’s businesses successes and failures and hear his advice. Mr. Atkin is the founder of SkyWest Airlines (1972), retired as its Chairman in 1992 and retired from its Board in 2016. SkyWest Inc. is a public company. He was involved in several mergers and acquisitions in addition to being heavily involved in the initial public offering of SkyWest stock. Mr. Atkin has created Airlines in Europe (Austria 1995) and West Africa (Ghana 2005). With both airlines, he dealt directly with many levels of government including the President of Ghana. He is also a member of the National Advisory Council (NAC) for Dixie State University. Are you reaching out with love to new converts and less-active members? Being a new convert to the Church or returning after an absence can be hard. In this episode we talk about how to make that transition a joy for those making it. We are discussing Chapter 22: Reaching Out with Love to New Converts and Less-Active Members from the Gordon B. Hinckley Manual. Converts who join the Church give up a lot, sometimes even family. When Al Carraway joined the Church she lost her relationship with her father for many years. She recounts it in her book, “More Than the Tattooed Mormon“. Read our review here. Hearing about her experience at Cafe Rio caused me to check how I treat people who might not look like they ‘fit the mold’. Less-active members can also have a difficult transition back to the fold.
