Akademik atau Akhlak? Merekabentuk Pendidikan Karakter

If pupils are to make sense of, learn about, and act in accordance with the mission of the school, the school needs to provide educational experiences in and out of the classroom that equip students with the language, knowledge, understanding, skills and attributes that enable character development. (Watts, Paul; Fullard, Michael; Peterson, Andrew. Ebook: Understanding Character Education and Personal Development: Approaches, Issues and Applications (p. 118). McGraw-Hill Education. Kindle Edition.) Dalam perkongsian kali ini, kita akan melihat sedikit berkenaan dengan pendidikan karakter, bagaimana ia boleh dilaksanakan dalam bilik darjah dan juga di luar bilik darjah. It's Easier to Blame Teachers than to Fix Problems

If you can blame students, teachers, and colleges of education, we won't see the social problems that impact learning. It's much easier to blame teachers than to fix the actual cause of social problems. However, there is one thing of which we can be certain: If Cengage Learning, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, McGraw-Hill Education, Pearson Education, and Scholastic could sell products to fix one of these social problems, that problem would be the cause of the next educational crisis.

It's Baton Rouge: Out to Lunch

Technology has opened doors in so many industries and enabled us to do so many things we couldn't even imagine in the past. At the same time, we've made things more complicated for ourselves, creating systems that don't always talk to each other and languages we don't understand. On this edition of Out to Lunch, two lunch guests who are helping break through the clutter, with products and services that are enabling our tech systems to work for us more effectively - and helping businesses better communicate their messaging. John Morello, is Chief Technology Officer of Gutsy, a tech firm that has come up with a better way to help companies protect themselves against cyberthreat. More specifically, Gutsy uses process mining – and we'll get into that in a minute – to ensure that the various cybersecurity systems a complex organization has in place are talking to one another and doing what they're supposed to be doing. If John's name is familiar to you, it may be because he was a guest on Out to Lunch in 2019, when he was running Twistlock, a tech firm that developed cloud-based cybersecurity solutions. In the years since then, John and his partners in Twistlock have grown that company, attracted new investors, and created the spinoff, Gutsy, to address a need they identified running Twistolock. John is a 14-year veteran of Microsoft, who lives in Baton Rouge and is also a master diver and very active in coastal conservation.  Kenny Nguyencis founder and CEO of Three Sixty Eight, a Baton Rouge-based creative and strategic media agency that focuses on branding, marketing and advertising with a high tech, high energy super creative approach. The company's origins date back to 2011, when Kenny and his friend were still students at LSU and started Big Fish Presentations, which specialized in public speaking and presentation services. In 2016, it merged with another local firm to form 368. In the years since, it has grown to include clients that include CenturyLink, McGraw-Hill Education, GE and Pepsi.  Out to Lunch is recorded live over lunch at Mansurs On the Boulevard. Today, we are talking about your episodes down to a proverb. Proverbs are crafted phrases that have successfully passed wisdom from generation to generation. Proverbs are the ultimate "long story short" that draw their power from the simplicity of their presentation. Are there things you repeat in your show often? Maybe you should embrace your proverb and turn it into swag. Boiling your content down to a proverb that is easy to remember and easy to recite helps you provide marketing materials for your audience to help them promote your show. If the goal is monetization, get ready to do your show for FREE for a few years. Less than 10% of podcasters get enough downloads to get a BIG sponsor Starring at your stats will not make your downloads grow; starring at your audience will. Monthly stats are crap ( the stat that people use downloads per episode after 30 days) Spend $100 on a microphone and 100 hours getting to know your audience. Creating a podcast is easy. Creating a GOOD podcast is hard but fun. Podcasting is a marathon, not a sprint. (again, it can take three years to build an audience ) Thinking a GIANT podcast launch will lead to an undeniable podcast success is like saying having a BIG wedding ensures marital bliss. In both cases, the real work is just beginning. You must have someone NOT named Mom to listen to your show and give honest feedback. There is no sense in paying to promote a show if it is not resonating with the audience. Downloads are great, but not as cool as consumption rate (seeing how far people listen can let you know how engaged your audience is) Having an obvious name can make it easy to be found. Choose the one you want to click more when you have multiple titles for an episode. It is NOT the media host that grows the audience. It is the content Treat directories like a child looking for Halloween candy. BE EVERYWHERE. Make sure your content does one (or more) of the following: Laugh, cry, think. Grown, Educate, or Entertain. If not you're boring. Listennotes stats (saying you're in the top X percent) are crap. See video For those who have money, there is therapy. For the rest of us, there is podcasting. If you want to grow your network, do an interview show. If you want to grow your influence, do a solo show. Even better do BOTH. You don't benefit until your audience benefits. While being consistent in schedule is very important (as you become part of your listener's routine) I'd rather have a "Late" show that was good than an "on time" episode that was Meh. Record without fear and edit without mercy. Podcasting is like sex in high school. Everybody says they are doing it. A few are doing it. Nobody is doing it right. Then, your podcast career is over quickly. Just like sex in high school. Don't try to be the most downloaded show. Try to be te most talked about show.  There is no such thing as too long, only too boring - Valerie Geller from the book Beyond Powerful Radio. (aff) Podcast Networks don't make small shows big. They make big shows bigger - Eric Nuzum from the book Make Noise: A Creator's Guide to Podcasting and Great Audio Storytelling (aff) Don't try to be the most downloaded podcast; strive to be the most talked-about podcast. - Darrel Evans. Workforce development and credentialing have both been the focus of recent episodes. Though we didn't set out to treat these as a series, some common themes have naturally emerged that we would like to call out and connect. In this episode of the Leading Learning Podcast, we synthesize our thoughts around workforce development and credentials, and the related challenges and opportunities they present for learning businesses. We analogize them to the tried-and-true combination of peanut butter and chocolate—both are good on their own, but they take on an even richer flavor when combined. We also share the key takeaways that emerged from the credentialing and workforce development experts we recently talked with: Clare Marsch (ABA), Jim Fong (UPCEA), Van Ton-Quinlivan (Futuro Health), and Jenna Cohen (ACT). We spend so much time worrying about whether students will engage with the curriculum that we forget a really important part of the equation. Yes, students need to be interested. But what about the teachers? If the curriculum isn't easy to navigate and fun to use, teachers aren't likely to utilize all the tools and resources available. And that means the students will miss out too.   At the same time, sometimes the more open and flexible the curriculum is, the more challenging it is for students. Remember Whole Language Schools? Back in the day, we didn't necessarily teach foundational skills the way that students needed to learn it. Instead, a focus on the science of literacy is necessary, just like we teach math–from a research-based perspective.   This week on the podcast, Lisa O'Masta of Learning A through Z is sharing how her organization is leading the way for this new way of thinking about literacy skills.    Tune in now! About Lisa O'Masta: As a strategic change agent and leader serving the education market for over 20 years, Lisa brings her passion for education and commitment to effective student outcomes to every organization she serves.  As President for Learning A-Z, Lisa is working to energize and evolve the market leading, digital-first organization in service of K-6 students.   Prior to joining Learning A-Z, Lisa drove the disruption of the core curriculum market and set the framework that has become the standard for creation and distribution of high quality open educational resources as CEO for Illustrative Mathematics.  She established and nurtured an exceptional team and community while always keeping the voice of the customer as the priority.   Additionally, Lisa served as an executive for successful educational organizations including the institutional division of K12, Inc (aka Stride) and the K-12 core, intervention, and supplemental products at McGraw-Hill Education.  In these roles, Lisa brought leadership and impactful experiences for students and educators.    Lisa brings her creative approach combined with her analytic thinking to ensure success of students and the organization.  From start-up organizations like eInstruction, SchoolNet, and Illustrative Mathematics to established changing organizations like Laureate Education, K12, Inc and McGraw-Hill Education, Lisa brings an intellectual curiosity and pragmatic delivery that has resulted in positive student outcomes in companies that she serves.    Lisa holds a Bachelor degree in Marketing from Towson University and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University. Our friend and prior guest Zak Slayback has written a new book called How to Get Ahead.  Scot devoured it - cover to cover - in a couple of days, and found it to be well written and perfectly framed for those people that are looking for clear steps to follow in careers and business.  This week, Zak tells us about how he took personal definitions of success into consideration in writing the book, he gets into how his collaboration with McGraw Hill Education publishing formed, and really explains the power of the personal website and email list that he recommends so strongly.  Expect all that and a lot more this week, as these two fast talkers compare notes about the current state of career development!
