True Believers: A Comic Book poDCast

In Episode Ten of True Believers, Andrew and Alana briefly walk into the world of "Fangs" by Sarah Anderson, and somehow devolve into a highly contentious quiz to determine which of them is chrs's REAL best friend.NOTES:Alana is the friend mentioned at the end of the show notes of Episode Five: Back to the Future State. The “furry” thing we keep referencing is actually not that bad. He's taking a nap in wolf form and starts wagging his tail when he opens his eye and sees that she's changing in front of him. This was not a tinder date. They just met in a bar because Jimmy heard Elsie say that she was a dog person. The True Blood thing was actually an entirely different white guy named Andrew that I went to school with. Apologies to Andrew, my co-host.https://www.instagram.com/p/pB58KrJXxD/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_linkIt's probably important to mention that Kirsten Dunst and Brad Pitt don't kiss romantically in “Interview With the Vampire”Campana is actually the Spanish word for Bell.Halle Berry is in the original X-Men trilogy, Michelle Pfieffer is in Ant-Man and The Wasp, Michael Keaton is in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Ben Affleck is in Daredevil. The thing that makes the Constantine thing debatable is that he's a member of the Justice League. The THIRD paragraph on Alan Moore's wikipedia page starts off with “Moore is an occultist, ceremonial magician, and anarchist” - honestly wtf????Apparently Taylor Lautner has Dutch, French, and German ancestry, and has stated that he has "distant" Native American ancestry (specifically Odawa and Potawatomi, both Anishinaabe peoples) through his mother.Andrew meant to say that DC Comics Bombshells takes place in the 1940s, not the 1980s.Music: “Onion March” by Shane Ivers - www.silvermansound.com

(Brian's Pick) Unnatural from IMAGE COMICS story and art by Mirka Andolfo                             Leslie is a simple pig girl. She loves sushi, she's stuck with a job she hates, and she lives under a brutal totalitarian government-one that punishes transgressors for anything deemed 'unnatural.' Leslie dreams of something different for herself. But those dreams are becoming dangerous... This Italian hit series by MIRKA ANDOLFO (Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, DC Comics Bombshells) will transport you into a colorful but terrible world-full of anthropomorphic creatures, but light on personal freedoms-by way of a breathtaking plot that travels between thriller and fantasy, with a hint of sensuality.                                  (Rebekah's Pick) Farmhand from IMAGE COMICS art and story by Rob Guillory                                     Jedidiah Jenkins is a farmer—but his cash crop isn’t corn or soy. Jed grows fast-healing, plug-and-play human organs. Lose a finger? Need a new liver? He’s got you covered. Unfortunately, strange produce isn’t the only thing Jed’s got buried. Deep in the soil of the Jenkins Family Farm, something dark has taken root, and it’s beginning to bloom. From ROB GUILLORY, Eisner-winning co-creator and artist of Image Comics’ CHEW, comes a new dark comedy about science gone sinister and agriculture gone apocalyptic. Nature is a Mother.                                      (Rod's Pick) Relay from AFTERSHOCK COMICS Written by Zac Thompson (The Dregs) and art by Andy Clarke (REPLICA, Batman). Story by Zac Thomson and Donny Cates (BABYTEETH, God Country, Redneck)!                           A perfect future of intergalactic travel and community. Every newly discovered planet is unified culturally through a monolithic structure known as the Galactic Relay. Although the towering monument is meant to inspire conformity of ideas, technology, and progress – many resent the foreign structure. Jad Carter, a Relay employee, must keep the peace and act as an emissary to new civilizations. But when he finds the Relay’s mythological creator, Hank Donaldson, his idea of reality and the universe shatters. Equal parts The Fifth Element and Philip K Dick, Relay is an exploration of monoculture, identity, and the deceptive nature of legend set in a thriving future where humanity forcibly assimilates new worlds.                                (Joe's Pick) Superman from DC COMICS written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Joe Prado and Ivan Reis                                      A bold new chapter for the greatest superhero of all time begins here as the superstar team of writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Ivan Reis begin their run on the all-new SUPERMAN! The fallout from the Man of Steel miniseries has Clark Kent looking at the world through new eyes...with new ideas about what Superman could and should do for the city of Metropolis and the planet Earth. His first job? Getting the planet back out of the Phantom Zone!

It's going to be really emotional. It's going to be all about Oliver's family, but not the family we're thinking of right now. It's going to end in a giant explosion, but not where we think it's going to end, and the emotional punch is going to be bigger than the actual physical part of the bombs going off.” Link:http://ew.com/tv/2017/04/07/spoiler-room-arrow-blacklist-scandal/        ARROW: MANU BENNETT'S DEATHSTROKE WILL RETURN, CONFIRMS STEPHEN AMELL (Date: 10 April 2017) Before “Arrow” Season 5 thunders to its conclusion, Deathstroke will return to the series. FACT: Deathstroke Arrow are currently filming in Vancouver IS NOT ME. I am in Auckland filming The Shannara Chronicles." While Bennett was not currently filming Arrow, it seems that he is or will be at some point this week. Meanwhile, in a Tom Cavanagh-directed episode of The Flash, Barry will make his long-awaited trip to 2024 where he'll attempt to discover Savitar's identity, but he runs into something unexpected when he meets the future versions of his S.T.A.R. Labs team, who have become shells of their former selves after the death of Iris. Elsewhere, back in 2017, Killer Frost begins to wreak havoc in Central City! The statue features Diana in an action-ready pose, bracing for combat with her sword and shield in hand. The base suggests it will interlock with other statues, though on its own is rather boring. Still, the lush reds and rich golds and blues are stunning, and Kotobukiya always excels at sculpting hair. The statue also holds a well-crafted resemblance to Gal Gadot, who has her trademark golden lasso at her side. Wonder Woman will retail for 13,800 Yen, which translates to about $124 USD. She is shipping sometime in July of 2017. Rucka took to his Tumblr to tell fans that he would be leaving the title due to the strain of the twice-monthly schedule. Identifying it as his last issue on the title "for the time being," Rucka advised fans against assuming the worst and wrote, "I just can't maintain the pace on the title while also fulfilling my commitments to my other collaborators. It is, genuinely, as simple as that." Shortly thereafter, Sharp took to Facebook to confirm that he, too, would be leaving the title -- but cryptically teasing that he wouldn't be going too far. Link:http://comicbook.com/2017/04/12/greg-rucka-and-liam-sharp-to-leave-wonder-woman-after-junes-25/ 'DC Super Hero Girls' Writer to Take on 'Wonder Woman' Comic This Summer (Exclusive) (Date: 13 April 2017) Shea Fontana will take over the title in July, following a critically acclaimed run by writer Greg Rucka. Fontana has signed on to write five issues of the twice-monthly series for the heroine, beginning with July's No. 26, with a storyline that will introduce a new villain into the DC Universe. The move comes fresh off the success of her DC Super Hero Girls work. The artist for Fontana's first two issues will be Mirka Andolfo, whose work has previously appeared in the DC Comics: Bombshells series. Fontana and Andolfo's first issue of Wonder Woman, No. 26, will be released in comic stores and digitally July 12, with No. 27 to be released July 26. We start off the show welcoming Sean Lewis for an interview about his upcoming series for Image Comics SAINTS with artist Benjamin Mackey. Sean is an award winning playwright and This American Life personality and he drops in to tell us about this new ongoing series he is writing; a crime/horror action-packed new series that promises heavy metal, sex and deadly one-liners at every turn.  Sean delves into how a Catholic upbringing informs the story, how he and Benjamin came up with the idea for SAINTS, his creative process and a lot more.  After that, we hear about Steve’s trip to DragonCon and he gives us the lowdown on his time and the sights there. Then the comic book talk starts off - Injection, lots of Secret War tie ins (Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows, Civil War, Future Imperfect, Ghost Racers and more), Force Works (!), DC Comics Bombshells and other female magic based books out on the stands, the now obligatory Matt and Steve “Valiant Moment” and we end on mullets and other hair disasters (not a comic).
