While large retailers may weather the storm, independent businesses are struggling to absorb rising costs tied to new trade policies. "CBS Mornings" hears from one Los Angeles entrepreneur facing tough choices. Lori Vallow Daybell was in an Arizona court Monday to represent herself in a trial involving the killing of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, in 2019. In her opening statement, Vallow said the evidence will show it was self defense, but prosecutors argued she conspired with her brother to kill Vallow, who had filed for divorce, to collect a $1 million life insurance policy. Two new studies in JAMA Neurology show some diabetes and popular weight loss drugs could help to protect against dementia. CBS News medical contributor Dr. Celine Gounder joins "CBS Mornings" to explain what researchers found. The Florida Gators won their first NCAA basketball title since 2007. Will Richard, who hit four three-pointers in the first half, speaks about the big win, what he'll remember from this season and the next steps in his career. Deja Kelly has turned her platform into a personal brand, but she says having the right support system — from a financial advisor to her "momager" — is key to staying grounded in the new NIL economy. With just days to go before liftoff, Gayle King gets a surprise sendoff on "CBS Mornings" from friends and famous faces including Tom Hanks, William Shatner, Bill Nye and Megan Rapinoe. Nearly a decade since her last Broadway role, Idina Menzel is back, this time climbing through midair as a grieving mother who finds healing and hope in California's redwood forest. North Carolina's frontcourt of Armando Bacot, Pete Nance, and Jalen Washington has seemingly battled injuries all season long. All three have been banged up in some form or fashion essentially all season long, and while not an excuse, definitely provides an explanation for some of the losses this year. The frontcourt has been less hampered, and even got D'Marco Dunn back quickly. Caleb Love and RJ Davis have been stalwarts. If the frontcourt can find consistency, Carolina could be in store for a big run.The UNC women's team hosts Duke tonight for a massive ACC showdown. After an 0-3 conference start, the Heels have strung together 3 in a row, including wins over top-11 opponents Notre Dame and NC State. Duke is 6-0 in conference (the lone remaining undefeated ACC team in conference play). Carolina will need a big game from Deja Kelly rebounding from her 5-point performance against NC State on Sunday.John Garcia, Jr. joins Isaac Schade to discuss Carolina's two transfer WRs, Nate McCollum and Devontez Walker. The frontcourt has been less hampered, and even got D'Marco Dunn back quickly. Caleb Love and RJ Davis have been stalwarts. If the frontcourt can find consistency, Carolina could be in store for a big run. The UNC women's team hosts Duke tonight for a massive ACC showdown. After an 0-3 conference start, the Heels have strung together 3 in a row, including wins over top-11 opponents Notre Dame and NC State. Duke is 6-0 in conference (the lone remaining undefeated ACC team in conference play). Carolina will need a big game from Deja Kelly rebounding from her 5-point performance against NC State on Sunday. John Garcia, Jr. joins Isaac Schade to discuss Carolina's two transfer WRs, Nate McCollum and Devontez Walker. McCollum, a slot receiver from Georgia Tech, and Walker, a big outside receiver from Kent State, slot in as nice replacements for Josh Downs and Antoine Green. Additionally both players still have two years of eligibility. NFL – National Football League – Week 18 Yesterday Detroit Lions 20, Green Bay Packers 16 Minnesota Vikings 29, Chicago Bears 13 Houston Texans 32, Indianapolis Colts 31 Lions 20, Packers 16 – Rodgers, Packers lose 20-16 to Lions, miss playoffs Aaron Rodgers threw a late interception on the final pass of what might be his last game, and the Green Bay Packers lost 20-16 to the Detroit Lions to miss the playoffs. After winning four straight games and receiving plenty of help from other teams, the Packers had control of their postseason fate heading into the final game of the NFL regular season. But they fell short against the Lions, who had been eliminated from the playoffs earlier Sunday. Jamaal Williams’ second 1-yard touchdown run of the night against his former team put the Lions (9-8) ahead with 5:55 remaining. Williams had 17 touchdown runs to break the Lions’ single-season record that Barry Sanders had set in 1991. Green Bay only got as far as its own 33 on its next series before Kerby Joseph picked off Rodgers’ deep throw on third-and-10 with 3 1/2 minutes left.  Seattle instead earned the NFC’s final playoff spot and will play at San Francisco in the opening round. The Packers missed the playoffs for the first time in Matt LaFleur’s four seasons as coach.  In the two games against Detroit this season, Rodgers was intercepted four times, three of them by Joseph of the Lions.  Vikings 29, Bears 13 – Cousins dominates first half as Vikings beat Bears 29-13 Kirk Cousins threw for 225 yards and a touchdown in the first half and watched the rest of the way as the NFC North champion Minnesota Vikings tuned up for the playoffs by beating the Chicago Bears 29-13. Cousins led three scoring drives as the Vikings grabbed a 16-6 halftime lead. They remained in control the rest of the way after getting blown out at Green Bay the previous week. The Bears, who held out star Justin Fields, set a franchise record with their 14th loss and extended one by dropping their 10th game in a row. With Houston winning 32-31 at Indianapolis, Chicago gets the No. 1 pick in the draft for the first time since 1947. But they fell short against the Lions, who had been eliminated from the playoffs earlier Sunday. Jamaal Williams' second 1-yard touchdown run of the night against his former team put the Lions (9-8) ahead with 5:55 remaining. Williams had 17 touchdown runs to break the Lions' single-season record that Barry Sanders had set in 1991. Green Bay only got as far as its own 33 on its next series before Kerby Joseph picked off Rodgers’ deep throw on third-and-10 with 3 1/2 minutes left.  Seattle instead earned the NFC's final playoff spot and will play at San Francisco in the opening round. The Packers missed the playoffs for the first time in Matt LaFleur's four seasons as coach. The Bears, who held out star Justin Fields, set a franchise record with their 14th loss and extended one by dropping their 10th game in a row. With Houston winning 32-31 at Indianapolis, Chicago gets the No. 1 pick in the draft for the first time since 1947. Texas 32, Colts 31 – Texans rally for 32-31 win at Indy but lose top draft pick Davis Mills threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Akins with 50 seconds left then connected with Akins on the 2-point conversion to give Houston a 32-31 victory at Indianapolis. The victory cost the Texans the No. 1 overall draft pick. They’ll select second, behind the Chicago Bears. Indy, meanwhile, lost its seventh straight under interim coach Jeff Saturday while solidifying a top-five draft selection. The final chapter was a surprise twist after Indy rallied from a 10-point third-quarter deficit to take a 31-24 lead with 3:33 to go. He went from winning the NL MVP with the Dodgers in 2019 to being cut by Los Angeles in November. The years in between were marked by injuries and plummeting production. Bellinger says he will “be able to learn from” his experience. The Cubs hope he can experience a bit of a resurgence at the plate while giving them an elite glove in center field as they try to climb back toward contention. They finished third in the NL Central at 74-88. It was their second straight losing season after making the playoffs five of the previous six years, but they went 40-31 in their final 71 games. FIFA – More than 25 million watched World Cup final in U.S. Argentina’s dramatic World Cup final victory over France is the second most-watched soccer match of any kind in the United States. That trails the 2015 Women’s World Cup final that was watched by 26.7 million when the United States beat Japan 5-2. That match aired in prime time in most of the U.S. Fox’s numbers from Sunday should increase when the “match-only” rating is released later Tuesday. Golf – Masters – Masters to keep criteria, invite all eligible players in ’23 The Masters is keeping its criteria the same for next year. That means 16 players from Saudi-funded LIV Golf will be at Augusta National to compete for a green jacket. Club chairman Fred Ridley says he’s disappointed in the fractured nature of golf. But he says the focus of the Masters is to bring the top players together from around the world. The 16 players from LIV Golf include six former champions and six who qualify by being in the top 50 in the world ranking. Ridley said the club still reserves the right to alter its criteria for 2024. The North Carolina men's basketball team is back in action tonight hosting College of Charleston. Armando Bacot, Caleb Love, RJ Davis, Leaky Black, Pete Nance and the rest of Hubert Davis' squad look to bounce back from their less than stellar season opener. The Tar Heels will look to remind the nation why they are the preseason number one team in the country. The UNC defense looked strong on Monday, including freshman Seth Trimble, but the offense needs to get back to form. The Carolina women got off to a hot start, obliterating Jackson St. with players scoring in double-digits, led by Kennedy Todd-Williams. Perhaps most impressively, Deja Kelly was not one of those four. Carolina is back in action on Saturday vs. TCU. Locked On Tar Heels - Daily Podcast On North Carolina Tar Heels Football & Basketball

The UNC Women's basketball team is expecting big things in Coach Courtney Banghart's fourth year in Chapel Hill. The team is returning four starters from a Sweet 16 team that gave eventual national champion South Carolina a run for their money. Deja Kelly, Alyssa Utsby, Kennedy Todd-Williams, and Anya Poole are the four returning starters while Eva Hodgson projects to join them in the starting lineup. Despite not starting last season, Hodgson averaged 25 minutes a game and should slot seamlessly into the lineup. In addition to the experienced talent, the Tar Heels have a bevy of newcomers and players returning from injury who will bring youth and excitement to the team. A key to success for the women will be replacing Carlie Littlefield's on and off-court leadership acumen. It will important that someone takes over those reins. The Tar Heels return their top four scorers, their top two three-point shooters, not to mention that Hodgson is third among active DI players in career three-point percentage. It should be another great year for the women. Make sure you tune in for Live Action on Friday evening and mark your calendars for the first regular season game which is Wednesday, November 9.
