Y'all, we need to talk about decentering men, what it actually means, why it matters for your nervous system, and how to do it from a place of secure attachment instead of anger or bitterness. Here's the thing: decentering men is NOT devaluing them. I am so tired of the "all men are trash, stay single forever" messaging, that pendulum has swung way too far. Decentering men means taking them off the pedestal, breaking the habit of outsourcing your self-worth to male attention, and finally becoming the main character of your own life, whether you're single, dating, or married. In this episode, I break down:The real definition of decentering men (and the trap of over-correcting into devaluing)How self-abandonment and codependency sneak in before you're even in a relationshipWhy interdependence, not hyper-independence, is the goalThen, because you know I love a good case study, we go deep on the Summer House drama, Amanda, West, Sierra, and Kyle. I share my hypothesis on Amanda's disorganized attachment and repetition compulsion, and why chasing the unavailable man cost her one of her most important friendships. Something Lauren keeps noticing: when women go through a breakup, they find themselves again. They go back to the things they'd stopped doing — the hobby, the book, the version of themselves that got a little buried somewhere in the relationship. This episode is a guide for anyone who's newly out of something, mid-way back to themselves, or reflecting on how they've come back before and wondering if there's a little more work to do. Four steps, in order. When infidelity turns your world upside down, it's easy to make your healing dependent on what your partner is doing, feeling, or deciding. I know how tempting it is to monitor their progress, wait for reassurance, and hope that if they finally change, you'll feel safe again. In this episode, I share why true healing begins when you stop revolving around your partner and start returning to yourself. Decentering your partner doesn't mean you stop loving them or close your heart. It means your peace, clarity, and sense of worth are no longer controlled by someone else's choices. I talk about how childhood conditioning and codependent patterns can lead us to lose touch with our own needs, and I offer practical journal prompts to help you reconnect with your truth and rebuild self-trust. In this episode, we cover: What it means to decenter your partner after infidelity How codependent patterns keep you emotionally stuck How to rebuild self-trust and strengthen boundaries Journal prompts to help you return to yourself How to keep a soft heart and a strong spine If you're ready to stop waiting for someone else to hand you your life back, this episode will help you begin creating it for yourself. In this episode, I share what changes when we decenter men and re-center Allah is real psychological and spiritual reordering that brings back dignity and peace in your lifeWe explore why organizing your self-worth around male reactions  are a form of shirk, and how tawakkul in Allah restores a single, steady inner axis. From there, the conversation gets concrete: how service stops being transactional, why appreciation can be welcomed but not required, and how relationships improve when you remove the pressure of validation. I also break down what decentering looks like in career decisions, marriage dynamics and what this looks like for single and divorced women. We talk about the patterns that keep men at the center: auditioning for approval in courtship, romanticizing inconsistency, replaying the past through resentment, or centering men through fear. You'll learn simple ways to measure progress through the decision test, attention test, and emotional stability test, plus how boundaries become calmer when your identity is coherent. We've all heard the call to step into our feminine power. The Women's Rights Movement in the 19th century leading to women's suffrage. But what exactly is the “Divine Feminine”?  And how do you step into that power?  It seems surviving is all about “doing”.  Therefore, the divine masculine in action.  When is it we are able to “be” and receive as the Divine Feminine desires? A social media creator we follow, @uppity_negress_, probably said it best when she discusses “decentering men”.  Specifically the idea of “the man”.  Decentering the need to be in control.  Decentering the ideal of the power structure.  Regardless of gender we all need to allow more.  Spend more time in the flow.  And give ourselves permission to receive the goodness the Universe so desperately wants to bestow.   We get into all of that in this first part of our Divine Feminine Series.  It is now possible to book 1:1 mediumship, energy healing, QHHT, or numerology sessions with your favorite Ohm-g Podcast Host.Check out everyone's offers here: https://ohm-gpodcast.com/products Check out our memberships!!  https://www.buymeacoffee.com/ohmgpodcastllc/membership  Check us out on Facebook @ohmgpodcast and Instagram @ohmg_podcast.  Send us an email at support@ohm-gpodcast.com to get on our mailing list for monthly virtual and live events. Your mind was not meant to orbit another human being, yet so many of us live like our peace depends on a man's approval, attention, or mood. We get stuck in longing, anxiety, resentment, and constant analysis and we call it “closeness,” even when it's actually psychological dependency. Here, we move from diagnosing male centrism to treating it, with a clear map for rebuilding emotional stability and spiritual clarity without turning this work into rebellion against men. We walk through a three-stage model: noticing the male-centered identity, stabilizing a healthy sense of self, and then returning to Allah as the true center. I explain why “centering yourself” can sound selfish but is often the missing step for Muslim women who were trained to shrink, accommodate, and erase their needs. A healthy ego means you can name your preferences, hold your limits, and make decisions from values instead of fear. That internal coherence changes everything: less rumination, less overfunctioning, and more calm, grounded boundaries. We also talk about spirituality and why a fragmented self often relates to Allah through shame and fear, especially when faith has been filtered through male authority. I unpack the Jalali attributes of Allah's power alongside the Jamali attributes of mercy, love, gentleness, and generosity and show how an imbalance can suffocate a feminine psyche already struggling to take up space. The paradox is real: when men stop being responsible for your emotional regulation, relationships often become lighter, more peaceful, and more loving. If you've ever confused a man's disappointment with Allah's disappointment, this will land. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs steadiness, and leave a review with your biggest takeaway.I invite you to join The Ummi Collective. If a man's mood can flip your whole day, that's not love or loyalty, that's your nervous system getting outsourced. We go deep on “decentering men” as a practical mindset shift that helps Muslim women reclaim self-worth, emotional stability, and spiritual clarity without hating men or pushing them away. I explain why orbiting a husband, father, colleague, or even an ex can feel like intimacy while quietly creating anxious, performative connection and constant self-editing.We break down the core idea of centering as the reference point your mind returns to, then map how male centrism forms through lifelong socialization and patriarchal messaging. From there, we explore a painful but common pattern: what looks like a faith crisis can actually be a fracture of trust in men who were placed at the center of your spiritual imagination. When a man's leadership becomes confused with divine guidance, his hypocrisy can shake your structure. Decentering restores a direct relationship with Allah, separating Creator from creation so your iman is no longer mediated by someone else's ego or behavior. We also name the hidden drain: cognitive bandwidth. Tracking his reactions, replaying arguments, and “inverted fixation” through resentment keep you tethered even when you say you're done. The goal isn't removing men from your life. It's removing them from the throne of your subconscious so you can love with sincerity and relate with calm strength. And that world is shaped in very large part by patriarchy. In this discussion, we wrestle with the following questions: How much are we effected by our environment? Have you ever felt so burnt out on dating you wanted to give up? This may sound counterintuitive but we're talking about how decentering men and dating could be the key to removing this dating exhaustion – and ultimately finding your person. We're talking with comedian Allison Goldberg about how she shifted her dating strategy to staying open to meeting someone but not making her whole life centered around it. We're discussing the difference of decentering vs not trying at all, how to avoid slipping into the line of heterofatalism, and tangible ways you can build an incredible life that someone is only so lucky to join. Introduction“A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle.” — Irina Dunn, 1970I heard about the movement of decentering men on TikTok. With zero expectations, I decided to try it out for a month. It was October 2025. I was sick of dating apps and about to publish my second book. I'd been single for three years, but this was something different. I'm here to tell you everything about it and share all the reasons why I'm never going back.I wrote this article to give us, women, a blueprint for how to be the main character in our own lives. Our mothers and grandmothers couldn't teach us this; they depended on men (financially) to survive, and had to center them accordingly. This article is not about hating men; it's about unlearning the ways that the patriarchy has trained us to prioritize making men happy. This pressure comes just as much from the women in our lives (aunties, influencers, our mother), as from men. After all, it was my mother who let my brother get away with never doing the dishes after dinner.Starting this process for the first time scared me. I was worried that if I stopped trying to date men, I was giving up on my dream of becoming a mother. Yet as I began to decenter men, I realized that my idea of motherhood was purely a fantasy. Facing the reality of motherhood, those statistics scared me much more. In this article, I will cover everything I've learned from the internet, economists, and my own experience, so that you can decide whether decentering men and trying it for a month to start is right for you. Let's begin!

In this episode of Single, Not Spiraling, we're talking about self-trust, standards, and what it actually means to stop settling for mediocre love. Decentering men isn't about rejecting partnership — it's about building enough internal safety that you're no longer making decisions from anxiety, desperation, or fear of being alone. Self-trust is confidence, intuition, and believing your own thoughts, needs, and wants without immediately outsourcing them. It's the steady feeling that even if a decision changes your life, you'll be okay. We unpack how self-trust sharpens discernment in dating, how anxiety gets confused with intuition, and why raising your standards has less to do with attracting a man and more to do with not abandoning yourself. If you're learning how to trust yourself, hold your standards, and choose partnership from alignment instead of panic, this episode will meet you exactly where you are.Stay connected here Connect with me on Instagram  Please email me here: Lauren@ohyeahcoaching.comApply for coaching HEREWould You Date You? Have you ever felt like your family's voice is so loud, you can't hear your own? In this episode, we're diving into one of the most challenging but necessary journeys of adulthood: learning to prioritize your own voice over family expectations. This isn't about abandoning the people who raised you—it's about creating the space you need to discover who you actually are beneath the layers of inherited beliefs, expectations, and advice that may not align with the life you truly want to live. Welcome back to my 2-part podcast episode, where I'm talking about how to “de-center” men (or really anything or anyone we've made the “sun” in our lives). We named the pattern: what it looks like to center men and the emotional, relational, and cultural costs when we orbit someone else's needs at the expense of our own. Today we move from insight to action (Yay!). This episode is about how to stop self-abandoning without burning your life down, and what decentering looks like in real, everyday practice. I'll walk you through a clear framework you can try this week—tiny choices, boundary language, nervous-system support, and specific drills for dating, work, and long-term partnership. You'll also hear a couple of personal moments that show how these tools play out when things get clear, messy, and very human. This is what you'll hear in this episode: A short recap of Part 1: a plain-language definition of “centering men” and why the costs keep adding up over time. How to spot the pattern in real time using quick questions (“Am I doing this for their comfort? For avoiding conflict? To not inconvenience someone else?”) and a pause before reacting. Relational autonomy in action: the “Two-Yes Rule”, and speaking your “why” without over-explaining. Exiting self-silence with nervous-system help: a scheduled anger/venting that doesn't bleed into your relationships. Reframing “being disliked for having needs” as data—not disaster. Decentering drills for real life: speaking first and reclaiming your voice at work, and self-regulation + clear timing in partnerships. Shifting the ecosystem: auditing your media, re-centering women in your inputs, etc. Decentering isn't about rejecting or hating men; it's about reclaiming yourself in a culture that has taught us that centering men will keep us safe and it's the only option. My hope is that this episode gives you a practical path: notice the old bargain as it's happening, choose one small values-aligned action, and let your nervous system catch up as you practice new boundaries. And please try the homework! Pick one domain where you tend to self-abandon, run a tiny experiment this week, and reflect on what your body and inner voice tell you. If this landed, share the episode and let me know what shifted for you!  Resources from this episode: Episode 697: De-Centering Men Part 1: What it means and what it costs us Download a Free Digital Version of my upcoming book, Live Like You Give a Damn Hop on my email list for updates on my books, programs, and more: andreaowen.com/free My Ketamine Therapy Journey secret podcast series Book recommendations: I love a good personal development book, and you do too, right?
