Our award-winning show received another "Dishonorable Mention" as one of Michigan's many music podcasts. Our listener from all over the planet has affored us the multi-single-dollar media system (with screwdriver) and our lack of support staff keeps us streamlined and able to provide you a superiourly mediocre show. tonight's topics; SHOEGAZE - the craze that lasted less than a year ... ish... talked about Slowdive, Lush, Swervedriver, Blur, Ride, Chapterhouse... and some others. Eric's Stopify Collection - Scott Von Ryper, Khruangbn & Leon Bridges, Dandy Warhols & Debbie Harry, Jenny Lewis and Moon Duo. We had fun poking fun at each other the way brothers who like each other but don't want others to know ... Pour me another brother - cuz the mother ship is coming for El Carpe next week.
Dishonorable Mention
Flashpoint by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert was a significant event comic that affected DC's entire publishing line back in 2011 as it led into the New 52 era. It's a comic book event that has been adapted into various other mediums and seems to be regarded as a major Flash story. In this episode, we take a critical look at this miniseries and try to figure out why we hate it. Thanks again to Corey J. Beats for producing our theme music. Identity Crisis by Brad Meltzer and Rags Morales was a major superhero comic of the mid-2000s, one that left a pretty big impact in the landscape of DC Comics. It's a comic that sold very well at the time, and is still kept in print. Plenty of readers had a lot of love for this DC event back when it was new, and it still seems to have its fair share of fans even today. You can probably see where we're going with this. We don't disrespect Identity Crisis because it was popular, but we disrespect it because it's an insult to our intelligence as readers. In this episode, we break down its many faults and explain why, despite its significance, it was never anything we considered for our our top 25 DC comics list. If you have any thoughts, comments, questions, or corrections, we're here. Feel free to hit us up on our socials, or email us! We have a Linktree here: linktr.ee/betweenthegutters

Last week, we dived into Hellblazer as one of the honorable mentions for our forthcoming DC top 25 countdown. This time around, we're dissecting The Death of Superman as a dishonorable mention. The Death of Superman is one of DC's most famous stories, as well as one of DC's most best-selling stories, and it's therefore pretty notable. We've even seen other outlets tout it as a "classic." We definitely disagree. In this episode, we take a look back at The Death of Superman and explain why it doesn't deserve to be held in high regard, and why it does deserve our scorn and contempt. Where were you when Superman died?
Abu Ghraib was one of Saddam Hussein's most dangerous prisons where inmates were often tortured and in many cases … murdered. Sizzle Synopsis - Ernest Hooper.Come along on a fantastic voyage as the Dishonorable Mention crew sails through its first year of political discourse, romantic reminiscing, engaging interviews and yes, random singing. In this 40-minute highlight audio reel from 2019, we explore the divisive nature of our current climate without growing divisive. We delve into such topics as the importance of media literacy, the entertainment value of true-life crime shows and the challenges of serving Florida as a state representative. We revisit our trip to Florida’s state capital, discuss the death penalty, poke holes in the state’s school voucher program and poignantly ask if society can find a better way to raise men in the 21st century. But we also have fun. We travel back to the days of Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock, showcase an up and coming Tampa bakery (we want Lizzo cookies) and salute Boyz II Men (or try to salute Boyz II Men). You won’t believe our view on the 1995 film Showgirls, and you won’t stop laughing about what we commonly refer to as the “Son of a Senator” story.Through it all, a thread of love and respect connects this “polititainment potpourri.” Becca Tieder, Chris Latvala, Ernest Hooper and Karla Mastracchio gathered together in 2019 to connect with the Tampa Bay community and positively impact discourse around the nation. Listen to what happens when four fun-loving, politically-inclined people get real by letting go of diatribes and embracing dialogue.
