Courtney leads injury prevention and outreach programs, working to improve EMS services for over 2.4 million people in the Dallas area. She supports 14 EMS agencies and oversees an annual 260,000 EMS-911 calls. Holding her Doctoral degree in Nursing Practice from Texas Christian University and a Master of Public Health, she remains patient facing by providing direct care as a member of the Trauma Team in Dallas. From a true passion for trauma care to leading the way in injury prevention, Courtney shares a few of her lessons learned-how to grow trust, accountability, and true collaboration. The HEART Model: An Integrated Faith-Based & Psychological Approach to Heal from Trauma Benjamin B Keyes, PhD, EdD, NCC, CCMHC, LPC, MCT Professor/Director of Training and Internship for Masters of Mental Health Counseling Program Divine Mercy University Dr. Benjamin Keyes' specialties include dissociative disorders, domestic violence, child abuse, addictions, mood and anxiety disorders, human trafficking, and work with refugees. Dr. Keyes received his Doctorate in Rehabilitation Counseling in 1985 from International College and his most recent in Counseling Psychology from the University of Sarasota in 2003. He also has Doctoral Degrees in Theology, Divinity and Ministry. Over the years Dr. Keyes has worked extensively with hospitalization programs, and private practice, and has established himself as one of the leading program innovators for partial hospitalization programs. Dr. Keyes has been in Private Practice for over forty years and has been a researcher in Trauma and Dissociation for the last 26 years. Dr. Keyes and his colleagues have received the Richard A. Kluft Research Award for work and research in the People's Republic of China from the Journal of Trauma and Dissociation and the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. His work dispelled the Cultural Model of Dissociation and has resulted in Dissociative Disorders being treated throughout mental health facilities in China. Dr. Keyes has also received The Hope Award from Restoration Ministries for his work in establishing, the HEART Model, a faith-based trauma model for working with Trafficked Survivors and complex trauma. Over the last six years, Dr. Keyes has been a Professor and Director for the Center for Trauma and Resiliency Studies at Divine Mercy University in Sterling, Virginia. As head of the Center for Trauma and Resiliency Studies, Dr. Keyes supervised the development and training of graduate students in First Response and Chronic Trauma. Dr. Keyes also serves the University as a Clinical Mental Health Program Professor. The Center's Trauma Team will deploy to traumatic events worldwide as needed, train professionals and paraprofessionals, and research the HEART Model and its ethics with trafficking survivors. The book The HEART Model is a 20-year project coming to fruition, following a 7-year study showing its efficacy. Dr. Keyes is also the Executive Director of The Green Cross Academy for Traumatology. Wenn Traumata sich lösen, kann das Licht wieder durch die Sümpfe der Traurigkeit scheinen, dann haben Erlebnisschatten keine Macht mehr über Kinder und innere Kinder. Dann kann unser Seelenlicht hell und immer heller strahlen, dann wird es warm in den Herzen der Menschen und all den anderen Wesen auf der Erde und allüberall im All. Gunda zelebriert lichtvolles Herzlernen in ihrer Akademie mit vielen hundert Menschen. Claudija lehrt in Gundas Akademie und kennt alle Klosprüche. Anke träumt von den Candy-Bars in Gundas Seminarräumen, die garantiert auch das letzte kleine Traumalein noch versüßen und vertreiben. Zucker hilft bekanntlich beim Zocken, Zicken und Zittern. Gunda erklärt, wie heilsam Zittern auch ohne Zucker sein kann und stimmt Claudija zu, dass Vergebung das ultimative Tool ist, um liebe kleine und größere Cortisolbömbchen zu entschärfen. Wenn dann in immer mehr Menschen wieder Seelenfrieden einkehrt, sind wir schon sehr nah am Weltfrieden. Dr. Jacinthe Lampron is a trauma surgeon and the medical director of The Ottawa Hospital's Trauma Program. She's also a reserve medical officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, where she served in Afghanistan. Dr. Lampron shares with us her wartime experience and what led her to our hospital. She explains how our integrated trauma team comes together each time a critically ill patient arrives at the Civic Campus and the “dance” they do to provide this specialized care. Dr. Lampron also surprises us with her career ambitions when she was a young girl, and shares what you'll find her doing when she's not at work. (28:37)

The American College of Surgeons requires trauma centers to use six minimum criteria (ACS-6) for full trauma team activation: hypotension, gunshot wound to the neck or torso, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score < 9, respiratory compromise, transfers receiving blood transfusion, or physician discretion. Our goal was to evaluate the effect of adding varying shock index (SI) thresholds to the ACS-6 in an adult trauma population with the hypothesis that SI would significantly improve sensitivity at the expense of an acceptable decrease in specificity

Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to separate them.[00:08:19] Christine makes it known the intent for someone to make art solely for money does not bother her if only they allow her to do what needs to get done.[00:12:12] Christine and Jay give their interpretation of ego. Where ego is more of a persona and how people perceive things.[00:14:04] Christine portrays that we are all traumatized children and confesses that she has grown more as an actor by understanding other people as she learns about herself while she unpacks her life.[00:17:32] Christine confesses her love for writing, even more than acting. Writing is the most exciting thing to do; it releases parts inside of you didn't even know you had.[00:22:11] Christine brings up the topic of violence in mass manipulation. From a young age, both women and men are conditioned to fall into specific gender roles, and if they dare to venture outside of that, there will be repercussions.[00:24:45] Christine tells us the critical role of past traumas how the goal is not to forget about your past but to make amends with it. It's a matter of integrating, not removing. She also shares the many pieces of herself she's learned from unpacking her mental illness.[00:26:57] Christine recognizes that it's not our parents' fault for how they raised us. The generational gap is normal, and it is our duty to create a better world for future generations by bridging those gaps. [00:31:19] Christine breaks down the types of violence in life; 1st violence is physical abuse, and 2nd violence is psychological and emotional. People do not usually quantify emotional violence as violence.[00:33:24] Jay details his life growing up in a disenfranchised area of the south, where people blamed their struggles on each other when they should be blaming the system. Christine labels this as crabs in a barrel.[00:36:00] Christine and Jay agree on the notion that men are oppressing themselves. Men learn that they are not allowed to feel what makes them human. Christine states that to oppress the female class, men have to believe that there's something wrong with them at all. The last 6 months have been traumatizing to the church. Reports from informed sources say that the majority of pastors have confessed they are ready to quit because the lack of attendance and giving and the added burden of becoming "internet sensations" is too much to bear. The Christians choosing to stay at home are feeling isolated and all believers are feeling intimidated by the powers that be that keep telling us it isn't safe to fellowship. Our response at PCOC? Pastor Mike isn't quitting. We are ready to leap forward in faith and turn what Satan has intended for bad into something good. We are going learn from Jesus how to express godly hope in the midst of any suffering, share in the shame others feel, and demonstrate sympathy to those who are hurting as they try to heal from their pain. The company said 21 employees would be laid off, another 12 employees would stay on for two months to a year, and five would remain at the Bedford, New Hampshire facility. The transportation revolution that inventor Dean Kamen envisioned when he founded the company in 1999 never took off. The Segway's original price tag of around $US5,000 was a hurdle for many customers. It was also challenging to ride, because the rider had to be balanced at a specific angle for the vehicle to move forward. Open Surgery - Traditional way of surgery going through the layers of the body to operate. Vein Harvest - Generally endoscopic removal of a vein to replace a coronary artery (cardiac bypass) Bypass - Surgical procedure to restore blood flow to the heart after an obstruction occurs. Cardiac Graft BP (Blood Pressure) - Force of blood against the arterial walls. Recovery - Phase after surgery when anesthesia is wearing off and patient is being monitored before being sent home with family or admitted to the hospital. Punch Biopsy - Small round biopsy (cut) taken to identify the cause of abnormal tissue. Hernia - Bulging of an organ (intestines) through an abnormal opening. ENT Surgery - Ear, Nose, and Throat. Various procedures involving the head. Hemorrhagic CVA - loss of blood flow from a blockage a ruptured aneurysm. Elective Surgery - Nonemergent scheduled surgery Discectomy - Surgical removal of whole or part of a intervertebral disc. Fusions - Surgery to join two or more vertebrae together. Done for fractures, deformities, instabilities, slipped vertebrae, or herniated disk. ACDF (Anterior Cervical Discectomy & Fusion) - Discectomy of the cervical spine (neck) with fusion to decompress the spinal cord and nerve roots of the cervical spine. Neuroaxis (Neuraxis) - Central Nervous System Tumor - Abnormal growth of cells Resection - to surgically remove Spine Stabilization - Surgery to stabilize the spine with more flexible materials then traditional fusion. Angio - technique used to visualize inside blood vessels. MRI (Magnetic Resonance Image) - Medical Imaging using magnets to see deep layers of the body. Space Occupying Lesion - abnormal mass in the brain usually due to cancer, but may be abscess (infection) or hematoma (blood). Glioblastoma - Rare very aggressive and fatal cancer of the brain or spine. Code Yellow - Phrase used over PA system of hospital when Trauma Patient is coming to the ER. To alert the hospital to assemble the Trauma Team and support staff to receive the patient. Hypotensive - lower then normal blood pressure. Chest Tube - tube placed in the chest cavity to evacuate blood, pus, or air. Central Line - Larger then an traditional IV placed into a main vein of the body. Thoracotomy - Opening into the chest wall. Finochietto (Rib Spreader) - Used to get a better window/view into the chest cavity the pushes the ribs aside. Iain and Simon discuss the challenges of getting our trauma patients to the CT scanner within 30 minutes of arrival. The 30 minute target is a UK standard, and we did not set it! All UK trauma centres are judged against the target and (rightly or wrongly) it has become a real issue for many centres.
