The wormhole is, indeed, in need of some reopening, yet again! Our Tongo extravaganza is not quite complete, and here we are joined by Cam Siemer of What Were We Watching and Young Jedi Knights Club, as well as our resident Ferengi expert Kregg, to talk about this Troi-centric episode of TNG, in which another empath boards the station and seduces our fair counselor, with, as Jethro Tull it, bad intent, and a delegation of Ferengis and others haggle over the discovery of a *GASP* stable wormhole?! What is this, DEEP SPACE NINE? No, my friends, it is not, but it is the return of RTW, an episode recorded literal months ago that we are thrilled to finally have out there in the ether. Will there be another gap of notable size between this episode and the next? I DO NOT KNOW. Hopefully not? Time will tell. Anyway, enjoy this discussion and some dope rhymes. Ménage à Troi! Surprisingly, the episode isn't about a three-way. Instead, it's about Deanna's mom being an overbearing jerk, Ferengis committing multiple acts of sexual assault, Wesley's white privilege, and Patrick Stewart revisiting his Shakespearean roots. Unless, that's actually what three-ways are really all about? We've never been in one, so we wouldn't know. This week, we pick up where we left off at the end of our Star Trek episode. With crewman Chris having returned from his travels in the Delta Quadrant, the USS Mint Condition is ready to continue its mission. Chris gives us his numbers 3-5, and then the entire crew gives their first and second picks of our favorite Star Trek episodes of movies. SPOILER AHEAD!!! If you don't want anything about the episodes and movies we discuss spoiled, please check the time stamps and skip ahead. If you enjoy this episode, please like, share and subscribe to the podcast. You can reach us at Secretoriginsmc@gmail.com and visit the Facebook group The Secret Origins of Mint Condition. We are also on Instagram @secretoriginsmc. :25 James introduces the episode, explaining that we are going back in time to continue the Star Trek episode with the return of crewman Chris. 3:30 Chris kicks off his top 5 Star Trek list with the original series classic, “Trouble with Tribbles”. 6:00 Chris continues with his number four pick from Deep Space Nine, “The Rules of Acquisition.” Which leads to a greater discussion about the role of the Ferengis in Star Trek. Also, it takes FOREVER, but Chris finally does correct himself and stop calling the episode “The Rules of Engagement!” 15:50 Chris gives us his third pick from The Next Generation, “Peak Performance”. This starts a discussion about not playing to win, but playing to a stalemate, and leads us back to the Ferengi. 22:18 Joe gives Jake Sisko an apology before moving into his second pick from The Original Series, “City on the Edge of Forever”. This leads to a discussion about time travel and honoring the prime directive. 32:00 Chris shares his second choice, which is Star Trek: First Contact, which leads to an overall discussion about the movie as a whole. 37:00 James gives his second choice from The Next Generation, “Relics”, opening up a discussion about “man out of time” as a plot device in storytelling. 43:47 Joe reveals his number one pick (already picked by Josh in our last episode; go back and listen!) from The Next Generation, “Family”. We delve into some of the stuff covered in the last Star Trek episode, but the conversation turns toward a discussion about the Mr. Worf storyline. 48:10 Chris gives his number one pick from Deep Space Nine, “In the Pale Moonlight.” 54:47 James shares his number one pick from The Next Generation, “The Best of Both Worlds” 1:00:00 We start discussing the directions in which Star Trek went after Roddenberry passed away. We talk about the rules for Star Trek from when he was alive versus an expanding story that needs to grow and change with the times.
Jack's Silly Little Friendly Neighborhood Star Trek Discovery Podcast
Jack (cohost of the APECAST!) gets so excited about the meeting of the classic ape-like Mugatos with villainous laser-whippin' Ferengis that he has to call Ferengi expert Kregg (obviously!), Barm (as you do) and brother Sam (why not?) to go absolutely APESHIT over this wacky adventure. In the spirit of the episode, they have plenty of pronunciation problems of their own, while talking the Kzinti, Stephen King, Dark, Australian Tellarites, REFERENCES, What If…, Shang-Chi, and just about every movie currently in theaters. It's as sexually arousing as watching two Mugatus go at it.

Pastor Newms: [0:07] The intro video. Pastor Bill: [0:11] Hello and welcome to season 3 episode 35 of the Berean Manifesto: Faith, Hope, and Love for the Modern Christian I'm Pastor Bill and I'm joined by my co-host the wonderful Pastor Newms. How are you Pastor Newms? Pastor Newms: [0:30] Um it has headache. Pastor Bill: [0:33] You has headache. Pastor Newms: [0:36] Other than that it's been a good day we have a family member who came into town for the 4th, and so got to spend time with him today that was super enjoyable, my little sister is dog sitting for my parents so I'm not sure if Biggs will be on tonight because he is in Texas actually, so not sure if he will be on tonight, touch base with them to see if you would be and I left my phone somewhere in the house so I have no way of because I just remembered that I don't have my phone in my office, um [1:34] Yeah it's it's it's somewhere looks like we got a tea and rain in the chat. Pastor Bill: [1:42] Yeah that's nice Zadie is joining us on Twitch and Rayne I assume is watching through Twitch, she messages us in our Discord on Discord the Ekklesian House Server. Pastor Newms: [1:58] So Zaidie says they are still driving which means they are listening in the car, um and that means there's a couple other people listening also and I cannot remember from the last time what his Twitch name is so, he's there as well so yes yes yes yes. Pastor Bill: [2:32] But if I scroll up I could find out what then I'm actually is the actual actual name he didn't he didn't type a lot the last time though he type kind of closer to the beginning and then. Pastor Newms: [2:43] Yeah but well I think mr. groggy is his other name yes, same guy oh yeah the Beast 13. Pastor Bill: [3:02] Or best okay. Pastor Newms: [3:03] Best best sorry the Beast 13 is even better though. Pastor Bill: [3:08] Why it's not his name. Pastor Newms: [3:11] It's cool name though. Pastor Bill: [3:12] It is pretty cool, the Beast so when I worked at Walmart I had a co-worker that when he found out that my wife's maiden name was Bledsaw, he freaked out and was like why didn't you take her name that's like the most bad name ever man like like a bloody saw like bled saw that's crazy you didn't take that name, slow down it's just a name calm down it's okay. Pastor Newms: [3:46] Yeah but there's a lot of us out there that don't use our normal name as a name and so sometimes we're like we picked our name like it's always funny because people will, they'll be like whoa what's your name and I'm like Jonathan how may I help you because I don't use my real name except in professional, settings I mean you know I'm known as Uncle Newms I've known it you know my dad goes by Grandpa Biggs so I mean it's just something we do you know we don't necessarily worry about, names and names are names are always interesting because of that aspect like there's that whole thing about your given name and then your given name. Pastor Bill: [4:44] I've taken on the name Thete in honor of the doctor and so that's what I go by in gaming and things like that. Pastor Newms: [4:55] Which I wanted to wait till the official start start before we talk about the crazy thing we've done this week. Pastor Bill: [5:02] Fully visible start start will be any second now right because it's 6:35. Pastor Newms: [5:05] It's in it's in it's in 3 seconds 2 seconds 1 second and and now it's the regular star. Pastor Bill: [5:09] One you can see our faces if you're watching on the platform. Pastor Newms: [5:16] I'm sorry I completely forgot to actually give you the the countdown as I normally do I just let it go and you're just sitting there going I think it's the right time, so Pastor Bill: [5:32] All right so how was your week this week Pastor Newms? Pastor Newms: [5:35] It was good it was good crazy things transpired. work is good work is work as, work is busy but in game, some crazy stuff happened so we've been there's this war been going on and it's frustrating but it happens with, PVP games that aren't PVP According to some people but that's beside the point we're not going to get into that argument. Pastor Bill: [6:17] Honestly its not a PVP game it's a strategy game that blends PVE and PVP. Pastor Newms: [6:25] Yes so wee, Thete the sorry D Pastor Bill decided to, partially what's the correct term, lay an ultimatum down to our to our alliance of basically hey look we can't keep with this war thing we've either got to figure it out or we gotta exit, and it didn't go the way he wanted and I agreed with him let's be clear for different reasons than his reasons but, I just don't think the war is going to accomplish what they think it is so I was tired of getting hit all the time so, I asked him I was like so what we gonna do we're gonna go find somebody or we going to have some extra fun so we start brainstorming, what we wanted to do and none of the options the other guilds that are available and stuff we weren't really down for either and so. [7:55] You actually came up with the idea while we were looking for through the races didn't you yeah so go ahead and you take over. Pastor Bill: [8:02] So we decided we would make an alliance that's centered around role-playing as Ferengi so basically Uber capitalists we're not going to touch on the whole misogynistic, aspects of Ferengi. Pastor Newms: [8:22] Current grade. Pastor Bill: [8:23] Imagine those don't exist anymore. [8:30] I have I the Grand Nagus declared equality for all people and all Races. Pastor Newms: [8:37] We don't talk about any of that other stuff. Pastor Bill: [8:40] All genders or non genders all religions are non religions everybody equal. Pastor Newms: [8:47] Because and what's the reason. Pastor Bill: [8:51] Because, because the rules of acquisition numbers 45 and 95 read expand or die, and yeah. Pastor Newms: [9:05] So yeah so we've had a extremely fun week writing bylaws in Ferengi. Pastor Bill: [9:14] It's been like two days. Pastor Newms: [9:15] It doesn't matter it feels like a month of fun I've had more fun, in the last couple of days role playing as the First Clerk of the Ferengi Commerce a lot agency then I have, in months and and I think it's I think it you know I was thinking about it and I was like why am I enjoying this so much I, I don't even like Star Trek that much why am I enjoy being a friend first off I did always loved the Ferengis in Deep Space 9 don't get me wrong but mainly because. Pastor Bill: [9:50] Deep Space Nine took the Ferengi from the unknown hated group of bumbling idiots to this lovable well-known group of bumbling idiots. Pastor Newms: [10:04] Especially the, cousin nephew nephew. Pastor Bill: [10:08] Quarks brother was the really big comedic relief. Pastor Newms: [10:13] Okay but the nephew was the one that went to Starfleet. Pastor Bill: [10:17] The nephew's the one that went to Starfleet and has some pretty dark serious storylines that he played out. Pastor Newms: [10:24] So the goal is we're about to finish Star Trek Discovery and we're going to jump ahead in the timeline of Star Trek. Pastor Bill: [10:31] Now this is what we're watching. Pastor Newms: [10:33] Yeah we're watching Discovery and we're going to have a little too so that way I can refresh because I never cared when Biggs was making me watch in the past the Star Trek stuff so now I'm like alright let's give this a shot if I'm going to pretend to be a Ferengi I have to understand it a little more although I've done I've done, pretty good so far according to people in the game that are absolutely loving it, Billiam wrote a two page expose on the rules because. Pastor Bill: [11:06] To explain six rules. Pastor Newms: [11:07] Six rules that are literally less than a sentence a piece each one truly. Pastor Bill: [11:13] Each ones one sentence. Pastor Newms: [11:14] It is not even a sentence it's like five words, but like I wrote some that are like one sentence each and then because we had already talked about what they were going to be and then Billiam took that was one sentence and did paragraphs of legalese and just it's phenomenal and people are like this is great we needed this because everyone's so serious right now that you got me at the jump and get the channel being liked. Pastor Bill: [11:47] Profits profit profit profit. Pastor Newms: [11:47] My my lobes my lobes are tingling they're like. Pastor Bill: [11:53] What's this all about Latinum Monday? Pastor Newms: [11:56] So tomorrow is going to be off the chain we have to go so big all day and just, every time I pull off of the node which is like every, I mean I need to pull off the node right now and we've only been in this conversation for how many minutes I'm going to post more Lot number further you know it's going to be just a, the tomorrow is going to be insane and I get enchiladas for lunch so tomorrow is just like it is set. [12:50] Depending on the year that your role playing the Ferengis don't necessarily follow any hard religion, supposedly like 40% only forty percent actually follow the religion so their post religious like America and so, and because greed that's beside the point we're not I'm not I'm not going there today we're going to be good we're going to be good today, I've been in a mood all day so good luck so yeah the week was just phenomenally great and, you know it's been it's been good. Pastor Bill: [13:39] I got some new soundproofing tiles in, put them on that wall behind my microphone which allowed my monitor into its new place not two inches away from the wall, and then gave me this lovely new camera angle that we have where you can see more of my shelves and this free hugs thing looks lower, so it's not really competing with the title The Ekklesian House so what are you laughing about. Pastor Newms: [14:11] I can't share it actually, I can't share it, but it is so worth it, I just something just came into my mind when I was reading the rules of acquisition as a joke because I was trying to make a joke about it real quick while I you know what in case we reference and then I wanted a good joke somewhere shortly after and I just came across something that just, my mind expanded for a moment and it's just wrong. Pastor Bill: [14:47] All right well since we're done talking about our weeks. Pastor Newms: [14:52] Yes we are live on YouTubes 80 at least we should according to the stats we are how do I find you there. Pastor Bill: [15:05] Berean Manifesto. Pastor Newms: [15:07] Yes I wasn't sure whether we were under the Berean Manifesto or The Ekklesian House there. Pastor Bill: [15:16] I will double check but I believe it is Berean Manifest, no it's The Ekklesian House I thought it was Berean Manifesto but it's The Ekklesian House. [15:44] Are you there. Pastor Newms: [15:47] The Ekklesian House. Pastor Bill: [15:48] Indeed it is The Ekklesian House. [16:04] Okay so it's time for. Pastor Newms: [16:08] No it's not we're going to. Pastor Bill: [16:10] Get to Know The Pastor tonight's question is. [16:22] I know what your answer is going to be it's fine, mmm "Which living person do you most despise?" Pastor Newms: [16:44] What do you think my answer is. Pastor Bill: [16:46] Me, for making you do these things. Pastor Newms: [16:48] Oh sometimes sometimes as my best friend I thoroughly despise you, like we were joking about how, I was joking with someone in the game that we play since the dragged me into this I'm actually thoroughly enjoying it because he did he dragged me into the game overall and now I'm a, second in command of his thing the Pastor Bill has pulled me into more things that I can, imagine some of which I do despise him for but to be honest I will not say on video who the person is I actually despise the most and it's probably the only person I've never forgiven for something because I just can't. Pastor Bill: [17:50] What do you mean I dragged you into things I have never dragged you into anything ever and our whole lot. Pastor Newms: [17:58] I'm in a little box I mean a little box in the corner of the screen and there's no video games around there's just a bigger fatter guy so yeah yeah you did and and. Pastor Bill: [18:11] Or new. Pastor Newms: [18:13] I had to do youth work for a little while and I've. Pastor Bill: [18:18] Q loved. Pastor Newms: [18:19] I did and I've had to. Pastor Bill: [18:26] I want you to come up with an example of something that I dragged you into that you did not then end up feeling, like you loved it and that it then gave you a satisfaction of life that you wouldn't have normally had. Pastor Newms: [18:43] So Pastor Bill: [18:45] Dating Katie doesn't care. Pastor Newms: [18:46] Whoa whoa that is wrong on so many levels anyway, you better hope she didn't happen to look because she does watch every out of tonight's the night she's watching she is going to text your wife and get you for that one. Pastor Bill: [19:10] I said okay she's got a hurt ankle I'll just walk normal speed away from her. Pastor Newms: [19:16] Wow so, no I don't know if I can blame this one on you but I'm going to try. Pastor Bill: [19:23] Pain. Pastor Newms: [19:28] There was a particular Bridge. [19:34] Off of Brentwood stair that we wanted to figure out where it might lead, and we ended up running, into the most demonic area we have ever been in, together well almost the most important weeks and people with rifles came out of a building to chase us off so yeah that's one. Pastor Bill: [20:07] And this wasn't like in the middle of nowhere this is like right off of downtown Fort Worth. Pastor Newms: [20:13] This is not a. Pastor Bill: [20:14] Not what you would expect and even lie about to go down. Pastor Newms: [20:22] I love I love I love I love Zaidie should we be talking about this, so I'll give you that one I can keep going. Pastor Bill: [20:54] Hmm I didn't drag you to that restaurant I dragged you on that trip. Pastor Newms: [21:01] You drove me to that restaurant let's see what else you dragged me you, you dragged me into doing the thing for the person who is currently chatting in chat, you dragged me kicking and screaming now that one I did end up enjoying overtime. Pastor Bill: [21:27] Doing the thing. Pastor Newms: [21:30] Not my wife. Pastor Bill: [21:33] My son. Pastor Newms: [21:33] Yeah but I did enjoy that one so that one can't count I do love Gerg but, you dragged me kicking and screaming on that one cuz we were done being friends you were like no we're not yes we are I don't do, and now I'm a proud father of two with four nieces and nephews and you know random people being like you're so good with kids. Pastor Bill: [22:06] I just realized I forgot to put my phone back in. Pastor Newms: [22:15] I did end up enjoying it over time I'll have to think it'll hit me partially see the night more of these, I'm pretty sure you took me to a haunted house one time that I did enjoy, your grandmother making me eat beans that one was. Pastor Bill: [22:49] Oh my gosh. Pastor Newms: [22:51] That one was messed up. Pastor Bill: [22:52] New Year's Day beans huh that's the one. Pastor Newms: [22:54] That one was messed up I'm a claim that one above all of them. Pastor Bill: [23:00] Okay okay. Pastor Newms: [23:01] So Pastor Bill whom is the person you despise most. Pastor Bill: [23:08] Right now the only person I despise is someone in the Star Trek game I can't think of anyone other than this person that I despise. [23:23] Maybe I'm just not that happy with this pattern of despises the right. Pastor Newms: [23:26] I don't think despises the right person if that's the person I'm thinking about. Pastor Bill: [23:30] Bizbe. Pastor Newms: [23:31] You're frustrated, did when you plugged your. Pastor Bill: [23:40] I don't really just buys you in right now because I really just don't care. Pastor Newms: [23:44] When you plug your phone into it switch your wife ice. [23:50] Because it's it's pretty bad quality at the. Pastor Bill: [23:56] No but I can unplug it if you think it's sinking down the quality. [24:09] Tell you what I will switch cell towers which means my which means my videos going to go down for a second. Pastor Newms: [24:19] Okay so. Pastor Bill: [24:21] There how's that is that better. Pastor Newms: [24:22] A funny there it clear it cleared up almost instantly. Pastor Bill: [24:26] Yeah plugged it back in and it automatically switch to a new cell tower so. Pastor Newms: [24:29] So crazy thing, I don't go outside we all know this I made a joke about it just a minute ago the best just said it, I do I as Zaidie said in chat the sun tries to kill me I can only be outside for, no more than an hour before I am Bart toast and it does not matter what SPF there is so, yes. Pastor Bill: [25:04] The sun gets us all in the end. Pastor Newms: [25:05] Yeah yesterday I went swimming with the girls. [25:15] Like actually 60 minutes outside the best came over, today and went back. Pastor Bill: [25:28] Oof. Pastor Newms: [25:28] For more time so that's two days in a row I've been outside I think I'm done being outside for like till September that's like two months worth of being outside for me so. [25:51] It's true it's true so it's true the, and because concerts aren't big right now and oh yeah we got to go to Dollywood in a couple weeks I'll be outside all day for that that's beside the point. Pastor Bill: [26:13] Sorry buddy. Pastor Newms: [26:14] The there's lots of shade there though Big Trees mountains so the thing that's weird though is my ears itching really bad I don't know why there's nothing on there, my train of thought went away cuz my ear was itchy. Pastor Bill: [26:41] Your itchy ear sidetracked the whole thing grilled it just straight derailed it. Pastor Newms: [26:45] Your hotel. [26:55] Outdoor concerts aren't a thing that was one of the other reasons I would go outside, and outdoor concerts are not a thing right now as much they're starting to come back but I'm kind of worried with the new developments of the Delta strain that it might not stay going, through the rest of the summer but we'll see I'm really hoping to at least attend a couple of concerts before because, I got needles put in my arm sheerly thinking about that aspect because a lot of venues aren't letting you in without the card so I was like, discard cuz I miss going to shows like that's something I hardcore miss out of my. [27:42] Life is concerts but, which is really funny because I hate crowds and I am terrified of all the things that might happen in our crowd, it causes great anxiety right up until when the music starts and then it's just, Bliss right up until the the music ends or set change and then I am a nervous wreck again and like I'm the guy who's like walking around the whole time that no one singing like through the vendors and through the cuz I can't just stand there and wait, for the next thing like I can't I'm standing in an open field or an open crowd so. Pastor Bill: [28:28] Concert tickets are expensive, Roxanne was looking at some concerts that are coming later in the year because she'd like to go to a concert lie of the year and she was like if we stand in the lawn it'll only be $86, $86 just stand in the lawn you'll even get a seat Well they want to sit down it's $126 here in the very back of the seating off to the side. Pastor Newms: [28:55] And if you're talking about the arena I think you're talking about over there by the fairgrounds you gotta go up at least I think it's seven rows, or you're just sitting in the sun I think it's seven rows before you actually get shade seven or eight I can't remember the exact I have to look at the map, cuz we did that for I did that one year I was like okay yeah we're going to sit right here is great and you're in the sun because the way the sun goes down, because concerts always start in the afternoon it's behind you the whole time I was like this doesn't help I just have a hot plastic seat now which is a big deal when you're allergic to grass a plastic seat is better than allergic reaction but that's beside the point I miss shows. Pastor Bill: [29:44] So I went to see. [29:55] Some band at that venue what's up and it was, anyway we were up on the lawn and the guy went there with knew that I liked to smoke a cigar from time to time and, has been somewhat years ago as well as working at Walmart he walks up and goes hey dude look what I found I got passed to me, and I was like yeah what is it it was just this little tiny I mean just like they did, little tiny and I grabbed it and it burned my fingers and I had a threw it on the ground and I stopped and he goes why did you do that he jumped down and he's trying to find it, sounds like cuz it burnt my fingers he was like that was some primo weed dude what's wrong with you and I was like one you didn't tell me what it was to it burned my fingers and three if you had told me what it was I would have told you know, I can't handle stuff like that. Pastor Newms: [30:54] Plus it's illegal in Texas still. Pastor Bill: [30:57] Possible it was definitely still illegal back then cuz we're talking you know Miranda was a baby 11 years ago. Pastor Newms: [31:05] She's wanting your wife is wanting to go see Korn and Stained is the one she's talking about. Pastor Bill: [31:12] I've seen Stained before but not at that venue it was a different venue. Pastor Newms: [31:16] I've never seen either of those two I don't think. Pastor Bill: [31:18] No I haven't seen Korn, Korn would be fun I'd like to go to the to the ministry part afterward after Korn that would be fun. Pastor Newms: [31:30] The Korns definitely Korns are weird band. Pastor Bill: [31:34] Eighty Six dollars for that. [31:42] She said she said well I can take my sister and I was like that's that I would be okay with that that's not you know, you can take somebody else because I can't stand much and I wouldn't be much fun at the concert right now anymore. Pastor Newms: [31:57] Yeah I I I I have to pay the extra at this point, the I can't stand for that long or I'm going to have to pull the whole. Pastor Bill: [32:12] I just had to sit just to cook a meal I have a chair in the kitchen right you know. Pastor Newms: [32:17] If I if I go to it if I go to it, if I go to an indoor or Mosh Pit Style Show again I will probably bust out of a wheelchair or Walker with a little pad like sorry. Pastor Bill: [32:34] Sorry dude I need access to the mosh pit because that's the only place my wheelchair will fit. Pastor Newms: [32:38] Yeah sorry dude. Pastor Bill: [32:41] Tsar did. Pastor Newms: [32:42] No the one of the one of the most recent concerts not most recent concerts but one of the last concerts we went to was actually Sarah Bears first Sarafina the my youngest first concert and we went and she had to go potty. [33:01] So we, way to go to the very back it was a indoor completely open floor you know had to go all the way to the back to use the restroom and, Zaidie in and Rayne were all the way up front and we're like oh my God and Sarah was all punked out, it was great both the girls you know we always buy them new concert outfit so they can be nice and you know cool looking because they grow to dadgum fast so they're cool clothes don't fit your to here, and so I just put my hands on her shoulders and I'm like okay baby we're going to the front, and she's like excuse me scuse me scuse me and everyone just parted ways and I was like, it's magical so if you have little girls that are your children, grab random little girls and take them but if you have children that are little girls, take them to concerts because you get right up in the front and then the singers and the bases and the guitarist stand on the speaker right in front of you and sing to the girls that are on your shoulders it's great it's just like going. [34:26] We shouldn't go there tonight we're gonna leave it alone but the singer sing directly to small children and it's great. Pastor Bill: [34:37] And we ended up in the mosh pit at the stained concert we had nosebleed seats and the guy that tickets to the concert Roy he was like come on we're going to the mosh pit and I was like, that know there's like armbands and there's like security and he's like I don't worry about it we're getting down there and he was like Hey man can I buy you a beer to the security guard and the security guard was like, absolutely and grab the rope and opened it and we walked in and he closed the Rope right handed him the, the exact change for a beer and then we just stayed in the mosh pit the rest of the night it was interesting. Pastor Newms: [35:14] Yeah there's definitely some fun to be had, at concerts we've I've definitely had some crazy shows I've been to, there's a real big one here that I would love to go to one year I don't think they're having it this fall but it's actually it started out when I was in junior high and it was just this concert in a field, in this little town called Shelbyville and when I say it most people are going to know what it is but it's title is Bonnaroo, and it's kind of like yeah Bonnaroo it's a, worldwide tons people come from people come internationally to this Podunk Town 30 minutes south of here and like it's this whole thing now the first year was. [36:13] Oh yes sorry yes the best it's in Manchester and it's, huge amounts of you know big names and it's a whole festival you know I think it's like a two-day thing or something I haven't lived here in so many I haven't lived here in so many years I don't remember but I remember starting out slow, others are pure rock one will get in trouble we go into that and anyway, I mean the best have a conversation later about figuring that one out, but yeah they the Bonnaroo is very much like a Woodstock ish you know it's lots of like you know hippies and, and I guess now there's a rock one so that guy's expanded he just had farmland and he was like I'm going to make a concert and everyone was like no you're not yeah yeah, the first year like the highways like the highways people would just pull off. [37:11] Because there wasn't enough parking up in the up in the places so people would just park their cars on the side and just, when I told one of my friends I was moving Tennessee that are you moving close to where there's a bun like yeah you're cool, you book anyway. Pastor Bill: [37:47] All right. Pastor Newms: [37:48] It was a good week we had fun this week because we had the freedom to do so. Pastor Bill: [37:56] Nice segue so natural. Pastor Newms: [37:59] So natural so easy, wasn't forced at all. Pastor Bill: [38:03] So yes tonight we're talking about freedom and I know that can sound. Pastor Newms: [38:09] Cliche. Pastor Bill: [38:10] I don't know cliche because it's the fourth of July and and everything and I get that but it's the direction I feel like we were supposed to go tonight so, that's the direction that we are going and as Christians when we talk about Freedom you know we're talking less about, what the world calls freedom and more the freedom that we read about in the Bible like the verse that, you know we used for the art tonight Galatians 5 chapter I'm sorry Galatians chapter 5 verse 1 says for Freedom Christ set us free, stand firm then and don't submit again to a yoke of slavery then he goes on to talk about. [39:02] A specific part of the law that Jews that had, converted to Christianity were then forcing on gentiles, who were converting to Christianity and Paul's making this point of okay but that old has passed away, we no longer have to force that on people we no longer have to follow, those things because of what Christ did because we have freedom. [39:43] And I think I see a lot in the church as a whole The Church and I see a lot in the world where. [39:53] A lot a lot is being imposed on people of what you have to do this or you have to do this you have to do that and and it's these misunderstandings of what freedom is okay so let's let's, go down this path and have this conversation about freedom because, in the United States we do live in a free Society right and a lot of people you know would debate that on whether or not we are free and I agree that, there are institutions and there are certain systemic problems, that have challenged freedom and that people have taken advantage of, to infringe upon the freedom of others I'm not going to deny that, I'm not going to say that everything is is peachy keen and cool and and fantastic, but we do live in a freedom based Nation so, I just lost my train of thought. Pastor Newms: [41:13] Dead are dead air dead air will Pastor Bill collects his thoughts dead are dead air, cheddar cheddar or Pastor Bill drinks is dr. pepper. Pastor Bill: [41:27] Okay I am free in this nation to murder someone. [41:39] Right, are there consequences after I take after I exercise my freedom. Pastor Newms: [41:56] Freedom is very interesting depending on what you mean by Freedom humans have the Free Will and the freedom to do a lot of things, there are certain freedoms afforded To Us by the government that our freedoms from, legal trouble and there are freedoms that we have as humans like I have the freedom to raise my hand because, well I have a hand that articulates so I can do that so it really depends on what you mean by freedom. Pastor Bill: [42:34] Well the best says he can't poop outside so is he really free. Pastor Newms: [42:38] He can especially because he has his own house with land. Pastor Bill: [42:45] You are absolutely free to poop outside of anywhere you want however, if you are seen pooping outside there will be consequences. Pastor Newms: [42:56] Yes there are like I said there are certain things that have. Pastor Bill: [42:59] Freedom does not mean lack of consequence. Pastor Newms: [43:03] Right even the things that are legal does not mean they are. Pastor Bill: [43:11] Free of consequence, and so we get this thing where you and I talked about freedom and we talked about everything is permitted you are free you are free to do whatever you want, and this is Paul's point that he hammers on over and over and over again Christ died to make us free. Pastor Newms: [43:35] Yes. Pastor Bill: [43:36] We are free to do anything we want but Freedom does not mean no consequence, now because of the work of Christ the consequence of sin and yes I use the air quotes with my fingers because, I want to add I always want to make it clear that when I use the word sin I'm talking about imperfection I'm not talking about the big bad list. Pastor Newms: [44:02] Right. Pastor Bill: [44:04] You know conservative circles keep and some liberal circles escape and that religious people keep. Pastor Newms: [44:10] You mean not being perfect. Pastor Bill: [44:13] Not being perfect has consequences and so if I go out and I smoked crystal meth, I'm 100% free to do that now there will be legal consequences there will be physical consequences there will be Financial consequences there's all kinds of consequences to that action, but I have freedom. Pastor Newms: [44:37] Just like and we can go even a step farther than that you know I have the freedom to drink my sneak because it came in the mail, finally I do not have the freedom to drink it as quickly as I did because I have to meet my headset every time I do so I take bigger drinks than I should I do not have the freedom for it not to trap air in my gut, because I swallowed too quickly yes I have I have the freedom for it to happen but there's the consequence of now I have a Giant Gas bubble and my tummy hurts cuz I swallowed too fast, so there are consequences for things that aren't even like in the big sin like but what I did was not smart didn't mean to do it for this. Pastor Bill: [45:30] Right so. Pastor Newms: [45:31] So I no longer have gas I muted so. Pastor Bill: [45:37] Big Eternal consequence of sin. Pastor Newms: [45:39] Right. Pastor Bill: [45:40] Was taken care of the whole hell damnation thing was taking care of it says that's not the reality we have any more reality we have now is, do you believe, which makes you righteous and and you you know or do you not believe and you reject the work of Christ, those are the only two options I'm not sitting here saying we've got to stop doing this you guys stop doing that yes I'm doing that you Gotta Straighten this up you guys straighten that up that's not my job, we have freedom freedom do anything we want, it's the holy spirit's job to follow up what I do and tell you hey maybe we shouldn't drink so much Dr Pepper. Pastor Newms: [46:37] Because it makes your teeth fall out. Pastor Bill: [46:50] Yeah Greg barreling through here like a bull in a china shop crazy Craig. Pastor Newms: [47:01] Gert. Pastor Bill: [47:02] GE crazy girl ugh. Pastor Newms: [47:05] Just so people don't think it's two different people he's got a son named girl got a son named Greg I was an idiot. Pastor Bill: [47:14] To Tucson. Pastor Newms: [47:15] Because it would come out backwards. Pastor Bill: [47:20] The twins at gergen the Greg. Pastor Newms: [47:23] The twins one came out forward what came out backwards. Pastor Bill: [47:26] People that gorgeous one was breach the other was right. Pastor Newms: [47:35] So freedom is important as we look at it because, you know there's been a lot every every there's always a lot there's always a lot going on in the world but, you know there was a lot of talk about freedoms, what our freedoms would aren't freedoms from a national standpoint also you know the mask mandates created a lot of conversation about about freedom and, what are the things I never really understood is it's like it's kind of like when you say something really really stupid it's like yeah you have the freedom, to be this is the podcast not the live. Pastor Bill: [48:23] Obtuse. Pastor Newms: [48:24] To be to be a punk. Pastor Bill: [48:27] Obtuse. Pastor Newms: [48:28] What is up to. Pastor Bill: [48:29] It's the words you're searching for. Pastor Newms: [48:31] I don't think it is I'm searching for a word that starts with an A and ends with a hole that I'm not supposed to say. Pastor Bill: [48:39] Right. Pastor Newms: [48:41] Oh okay anyway feels like you still said it so, the, you know there's a lot of people you have the freedom to do things you have the freedom to bully people you have the freedom to say things that are not correct you have the freedom but there's consequences for that, you know you can get kicked out of a store because I store can kick you out for any reason. Pastor Bill: [49:08] Because the store has the freedom to kick you out. Pastor Newms: [49:11] You can get fired because your job has the freedom to do so you can get there. Pastor Bill: [49:18] In some places. Pastor Newms: [49:19] Well it well and it depends on what you did, any more discrimination pretty much across the board you can get popped for pretty much so it's just. Pastor Bill: [49:32] Prove discrimination though especially in Texas where it says super uber at-will state I can just say I didn't like the face you made at me and they'll be like okay that's that's reason enough. Pastor Newms: [49:42] Oh no no no I mean someone getting fired because they did something not. Pastor Bill: [49:49] Yeah but you said discrimination you you know you're not supposed to fire for discrimination but I can be a discriminatory person and just write down oh he gave me a bad look. Pastor Newms: [50:04] Do you have the freedom to steal your sister's first Lego set I don't know. Pastor Bill: [50:09] It took it took 50 minutes. Pastor Newms: [50:09] So she she gave me she gave she gave me an empty box she just gave me the box of the Lego set that that's all I have is the Box see it's about. Pastor Bill: [50:23] Uh-huh yeah it took her 50 minutes to bring it up. Pastor Newms: [50:28] 50 so what Heather what, Phoenix is talking about is the Lego set that came out that is called everyone is awesome, is there diversity set that I did not take off somewhere else in the house and bring in here and put it in the corner just sheerly to see how long it took Phoenix to notice, and had Bill time it which is why he knew the exact moment it was said, I actually already priced one and have and I'm ready to order it for my self so we have one but I really like it because I think they did a very good job of not. [51:23] Forcing anything or trying to go too far with anything it's just a nice simple set and it's very sturdy I like sturdy sets and so, I do, want to steal it but I just put it back there as a joke and it worked because that I got an all caps word so it was it was worth it so I'm very happy that was noticed, Johnny Johnny Bravo. [52:02] Oh the blue guy are you saying the blue guy looks like Johnny because the Johnny Bravo hair, I can see that I could see that I could, I think it's very well done though it's a very it's very good set and supposedly like there's a bunch of people that have taken all the people apart and then put them back together and random configurations to make it even more diverse which. Pastor Bill: [52:33] It was beautiful I liked it. Pastor Newms: [52:35] Yeah it was it was they chaotically put the set together just like none of it actually, it's a chaotic mess but it's they put it together that way on purpose to show. [52:54] I don't think they're bigger than the regular Minifigs. Pastor Bill: [52:58] Regular size, stop saying I'm not going to transcribe them over and over and over again. Pastor Newms: [53:12] I don't have any other Minifigs in here I'll have to go to my room, to check sorry now I'm just doing it thanks you pointed it out now I I think they're correct size though that's going to get on my nerves, boxes on the floor under my desk thank you. Pastor Bill: [53:36] Right so freedom. Pastor Newms: [53:55] Freedom just too, so we collect Minifigs so Minifigs are a big deal in our house I just don't have any of them displayed at the moment so I picked a random one from the box um let's see this looks like it's the punk girl from one of the series I don't know which one, so we got the little punk girl if the camera there you go camera, pool. Pastor Bill: [54:38] A little bigger yeah. Pastor Newms: [54:40] I don't know if they are let me check, if I put them side-by-side, I don't think they are I think they're perfectly normal. Pastor Bill: [54:51] The red one looks taller than me. Pastor Newms: [54:53] I think it's his hair his hair is bigger if I put. Pastor Bill: [54:57] Trying to focus on the shoulders now that's the same. Pastor Newms: [55:18] The way that they're standing and there's so much color around them it does force the perspective of them being very big I will agree with that and I'm going to put this little girl back before I, no no no. Pastor Bill: [55:49] You don't have to dig into it. Pastor Newms: [55:50] Nope nope nope I'm shaking my. Pastor Bill: [55:52] Oh Raven says she has freedom to play video games. Pastor Newms: [55:54] With no limits and we both know how her mother feels about that. Pastor Bill: [56:05] Unfortunately currently rain you are under, under the control of your your guardianship you are not free. Pastor Newms: [56:18] Man. Pastor Bill: [56:20] It's like Britney Spears you are not free. Pastor Newms: [56:22] Whoa free Britney hashtag. Pastor Bill: [56:29] All right so in closing here as we're wrapping up we talked about in the past where, every year on the fourth of July or around Fourth of July I see people making videos posting them on social media talking about, when the nation was formed certain demographic groups weren't free, and talking about well why should I celebrate the Fourth of July when my ancestors, and you know the rest of that conversation there and we've talked about I wish that wasn't a valid question I wish that wasn't a valid something that you have to ask, but it happened it did and I my heart reaches out to you and every year I bring this up that. [57:22] Choose to celebrate the freedom you have now, and if that's not good enough choose to celebrate the progress that we've made as a people towards making everyone free and equal, right and I saw a video in the same vain, and this person asserted that his demographic wasn't free, because some white man wanted him to be free he was only free because of the invention of the cotton gin, and then it was invention that set his people free and the reason why we have freedom, and I'm here to say. [58:19] The holiday of July 4th is meant to celebrate freedom not to celebrate the specific, of signing a piece of paper in 1776. [58:39] That is the event that we focused on for the holiday, but instead of literally leaving a miserable life leading a miserable life going well I'm not going to celebrate that, celebrate the thing that you've identified as bringing you freedom and celebrate that, if on the fourth of July you want to celebrate the invention of calculators as what made you free, and celebrate that if you want to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus as what made you free celebrate that if you want to celebrate the signing of the piece of paper in 1776 which, I have personal issues with that whole the way the whole thing went down, didn't you can celebrate that I'm not celebrating that I'm celebrating freedom and family, choose not to live a miserable life because the things that you can't change, find something to celebrate something to Rally around something to make you happy you have the freedom, to do so that's what I have for tonight. Pastor Newms: [1:00:01] I'm currently celebrating the freedom from my family since they're all out of the house, but like 4/5 of them are in chats, anyway. Pastor Bill: [1:00:21] All right we love you guys it's a crazy world out there, like Newms is talking about the Delta variant if you're in an area where the numbers have started taking up again be wise, make stupid decisions take care of yourself gnomes you're going to say what. Pastor Newms: [1:00:46] Be safe please. Pastor Bill: [1:00:47] Be safe I'm not allowed to say be safe because that's his tag phrase and now we're going to have our 30-second buffer. Pastor Newms: [1:00:56] Really don't already. Pastor Bill: [1:00:57] We are 7:30. Pastor Newms: [1:00:59] It doesn't feel like it. Pastor Bill: [1:01:01] I know it went by really fast in it that's what happens when you're having fun. Pastor Newms: [1:01:06] I don't want it to be over today. Pastor Bill: [1:01:08] And because you're dreading getting in the car and driving over to your mom's house to where your family is. Pastor Newms: [1:01:17] No it's just I don't know, I'm not driving that because we're going to play games this can be fun so all. Pastor Bill: [1:01:25] Okay well it is time for the 32nd. Pastor Newms: [1:01:31] 30 second buffer 30. Pastor Bill: [1:01:32] 30 second buffer has it been 30 seconds yet no of course not that's not how time works 30 second buffer 30. Pastor Newms: [1:01:37] So second buffer 30 second buffer 30 second buffer. Pastor Bill: [1:01:42] 30-second busser everybody have a great week we love you guys. Pastor Newms: [1:01:47] Love you be safe. Pastor Bill: [1:01:49] And until next time. Pastor Newms: [1:01:51] Until next time.

Jack's Silly Little Friendly Neighborhood Star Trek Discovery Podcast
It’s the second episode of Lower Decks, and the first appearance of a Ferengi in Star Trek in EIGHTEEN YEARS, so you know who Jack had to grab for this one! That’s right, it’s Space Merchant Ferengi expert Kregg Castillo, finally getting to talk about Ferengis on Jack’s Silly! In addition to waxing rhapsodic over their profound love of Quimp, the Dynamic Duo talk about where LDS has casually landed on the “Klingon Question”, Rutherford’s new grooves, fast talkin’ characters, and so much more! In addition to the debut of a brand new recurring feature, this episode will go down in history as the first official public announcement of a very special new project from Kregg that is sure to change lives! This episode, I tell ya, it’s Golden, Boy.
What do gods need with financial advice? Its a return to DS9 but now we see the perspective of a non-Starfleet officer on existence outside of time. The wormhole aliens discover that linguistic communication is always tiring.
This week on the mighty GLoP podcast, we once again throw pre-agreed topics to the curb and let the Big Brains (that's really what they make us call them) take the show where they will. So, we cover the infamous history of Rob's NYC neighborhood, The Watchmen and The Man in The High Castle, whether or not The Irishman is trash or treasure, and are the Ferengis (characters on Star Trek: Voyager for... A grand finale requires the grandest of episodes. And here it is, finally! After a 4-year journey, we’ve arrived at the thing that listeners almost certainly want: a nearly-five-hour-long, in-depth, off-the-wall discussion with a dog snoring in the background. If you’re a long-time listener, YOU KNEW THIS WAS COMING. We get into the nitty-gritty of the end of the Dominion War, the tragic (and not-so-tragic) death of multiple characters, the Bajoran fire caves, and so so so so so much more. And of COURSE there are detours to talk about things like Mortal Kombat, Spider-Man movies, and all the hallmarks of these three Trek fans who can’t stay on topic. It’s our final regular episode, and of course we have a LOT to get off our chests. And stay tuned to the end as we have a big discussion about series finales – which ones we like, which ones we don’t, and how What You Leave Behind stacks up. You’ll also find a whopping 8 new musical compositions (and more old ones) spread throughout the episode. 3 years from now, when you’re done listening to the episode in its entirety, you’ll be crying to yourself “WHY RTW! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GO!” Well don’t worry, we’ll be back soon with some mailbag episodes and a big old retrospective about DS9 and about our experience on the podcast. And stay subscribed for random bonus episodes when you least expect them. What we leave behind is a weird podcast that changed our lives, and hopefully those of our listeners, for the better. Lastly, we dedicate this, our finale, to one of our favorite Ferengis, Aron Eisenberg. May he rest in peace.
When a runabout with precious cargo sustains a banger, Bashir plays a cup and ball trick with Miles and Keiko's unborn child. But when Quark gets a bad diagnosis, the Ferengis find themselves involved in yet another harebrained latinum scheme that could spell the end of Quark's Bar. Is there some way Kira could save O'Brien a click? What does Brunt actually want to do with the pucks? Did Quark have an actionable religious epiphany? It's the episode with the wall-eyed headboobs.

Ken Plume has a chat with actor Armin Shimerman, about Deep Space Nine, Quark, predictions, auditions, Ferengis, atonement, rehearsing, bonding, IQ, beautiful alchemy, Buffy moonlighting, novel ideas, John Dee, franchise returns, spin-offs, and Quarksablanca.

The Rules of Acquisition: A Star Trek Deep Space Nine Podcast
What happens in this episode? [See title of episode] The final installment of the Ferengi Pickers Cycle. Kira's boyfriend also gets an interesting story! Does DS9 actually do faith ok in this episode? “Back massages,” huh? Do the Ferengi's crony capitalism superpowers have any place in the Federation? Is Sisko being a jerk captain here? The individuality of clones. Do we have trouble waiting for a third act turn that didn't come? Defect; Defective. Female Changeling, you look rough. Rule 168: Keep it on the DL. What is Ferengi gay subculture like in a repressive society? First set of ears? Ferengis are gross. Vorta creation myths and religion discussed. Only a god would ever think to hide by going on silent running. Wait. Does Odo need to breathe? A pause to throw shade at Discovery and fandom maintenance. Vorta's have an off button. Kira [and the writers] have a good take on religion and faith. Think they may do even more stories about her boyfriend? Be nice to Weezer fans, y'all. 2309: A good vintage for bloodwine. Ok, let's talk about capitalism and profit in Nog's scheming. What is Ferengi culture's endpoint? Some aliens can't get enough cancer. Is DS9 screwing up my luxury gay space communism? Could this have been a 5th season episode? Let us know what you think! 917 408 3898 or support the show and also know what you think at patreon.com/kickersofelves

Captain Picard finds himself in the middle of political intrigue when a Crian delegation in the form of an ambassador and a "gift" are being shepherded toward the Valteans with whom there has been centuries of conflict. It turns out this gift is actually a Crian woman who was groomed to be the consort of the Valtean Chancellor as part of the peace treaty that is being worked out and on top of that she's a Metamorph, a rare mutation among Crian's that produces a once in a lifetime female empathic sex goddess... She ends up imprinting on Picard and then marrying the Valtean anyway, oh yeah and there are Ferengis. Tune into our discussion and let us know what you thought of this episode of Star Trek, the Next Generation. My guest today is Sean from http://www.youtube.com/trekonthetube
The Deep Space Nine crew may be looking in all the wrong places, but faithful listeners are looking in the right place if they're in the mood for rousing discussions about Worf and his little crush, Jadzia and HER little crush and, of course, Kira and O'Brien and their weird crush... thing... that they have going on. And, joining the RTW crew on this adventure (that really doesn't involve Ferengis all that much) is Ferengi expert and Dabo Boy, Kregg Castillo! You don't have to eavesdrop outside of people's homes like that creep Bashir to get in on the fun. Just tune in to US!
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine gives us one last standalone, as “Extreme Measures” delves into the psyche of one Sloan, Section 31. Or is he? Then, in “The Dogs of War”, we say goodbye to some Ferengis, and the Federation-Klingon-Romulan Alliance makes a fateful decision about the Dominion War. iTunes Google Play RSS
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine finally decided to deal with last season’s revelation that Bashir was genetically modified by his parents in “Statistical Probabilities”, and Quark decides to deal with other Ferengis in “The Magnificent Ferengi”. iTunes Google Play RSS
Ferengis, Ferengis everywhere... Ok only three. Captain Picard may or may not be a murderer. The Ferengi are presenting Picard with his old ship the Stargazer. Why? Because he is the hero of Maxia. Of course, if you think it's that simple, your all alone in the vacume of space. There is much more to the story, so check it out.
Ferengi Values vs. Federation Values. The stationary setting of Deep Space Nine was a concern in the beginning and has often been criticized by Star Trek fans. But what the premise lacks in terms of discovering strange new worlds it makes up for in getting to know strange new cultures. Forcing Federation personnel and aliens from many different societies to live together day after day allowed the writers to explore important social issues—and to do so on a long scale. In this episode of The Orb hosts Christopher Jones and Matthew Rushing take a look at one of the starkest contrasts on the station—Ferengi values vs. Federation values. As Robert Hewitt Wolfe said, "The Ferengi are us. That's the gag, the Ferengis are humans.” We set out to determine if the Ferengi are in fact the closest analogy in Star Trek to twentieth and twenty-first center humans by examining Ferengi and Federation views of prosperity, labor practices, women's rights, and education.
