In this episode, Ben and Jack take a close look at Shane Meadows' This Is England, a film that confronts the complexities of race, identity, and nationalism in 1980s Britain. They unpack how the film depicts the horrors of racism through art - and whether such portrayals are a necessary form of truth-telling, or if they risk exploiting the trauma of those affected. They delve into the long shadow of Margaret Thatcher, exploring how her policies reshaped northern, working-class communities, and how the film captures the fallout. The episode also shines a light on the film's female characters, whose presence challenges and deepens the male-dominated narrative, offering much-needed perspective and emotional grounding. The discussion then turns to the danger of disenfranchised masculinity - how lost, angry young men become vulnerable to radicalisation and draws parallels with the rise of far-right movements today. Have we really learned from the past, or are we repeating it in new forms?A timely and urgent conversation about history, identity, and the power of film to hold a mirror to society. Also in this episode: Ben responds to the backlash surrounding his A Minecraft Movie review, and Jack passionately argues why the latest season of The White Lotus isn't just the best one yet, but a near-flawless piece of television. If you find the episode thought-provoking, please consider rating, reviewing, and subscribing to help others find the podcast. Are you looking for a steady, dependable friend who always remembers birthdays, follows through on commitments, and shows up when it counts? Then you need an SJ friend! In this episode, we explore the Guardian temperament (SJ types: ESFJ, ISFJ, ESTJ, ISTJ)—the friends who hold everything together with their structure, loyalty, and strong sense of responsibility. But just like every type, SJs have friendship strengths and struggles. While they're incredibly reliable and thoughtful, they can also be overly rigid, controlling, or struggle with emotional connection and encouragement. Join me as we break down the SJ friend using the TRUE friendship framework: ✅ True – Their unmatched loyalty and dependability—but also their struggles with control and holding grudges. ✅ Respect – How SJs show up for others but sometimes struggle with boundaries or taking on too much responsibility. ✅ Understanding – The difference between emotionally attuned SFJs and logical, solution-focused STJs (and how that impacts listening and empathy). ✅ Encouragement – Why SJs show support through actions rather than words—and why SFJs may need reassurance but struggle to ask for it. Whether you're an SJ, have an SJ friend, or just want to deepen your understanding of different friendship dynamics, this episode is packed with insights, humor, and practical takeaways. Tune in now! In this episode, we break down: Different types of SP friends—from the Party Starter to the Flaky Friend Why SPs struggle with commitment and deep listening How to appreciate their energy while setting healthy boundaries The TRUE framework—where SPs shine and where they struggle If you've ever been frustrated by a last-minute cancellation or loved a friend who pushes you out of your comfort zone, this episode is for you!
Making friends as an adult is harder than anyone ever warned us about. Unlike childhood, where friendships formed effortlessly on the playground, or college, where connections were built into dorm life, adulthood throws us new challenges—busy schedules, shifting priorities, and the reality that making (and keeping) friendships takes effort. This is a topic I love and have spent a lot of time thinking about. Years ago, I led a seminar on friendship and connection, and despite facing plenty of obstacles, I've been able to build an incredible, supportive group of friends. But it wasn't by accident—it was by understanding what makes friendships work and taking intentional steps to cultivate them. Recently, I came across Mel Robbins' Three Pillars of Friendship—Proximity, Time/Phase of Life, and Energy—and I found myself nodding along because, yes, these are the things that make or break friendships. I also love her Let Them Philosophy, but what I've also embraced is the ‘Let Me' Approach—the idea that Let me be the one to reach out, Let me be the one to host the party, Let me take responsibility for building the connections I want in my life. In this episode, I'm diving into all of this—why making friends in adulthood is hard, how to navigate it, and how to take action to build real, meaningful relationships. And stay tuned, because in upcoming episodes, I'll be exploring the different types of friends based on personality—what strengths they bring to relationships, where imbalances may show up, and how to cultivate deeper connections by understanding temperament. If you've been struggling to find or deepen friendships, or just want to be more intentional about the relationships in your life, this episode is for you. Every parent dreams of setting their kids up for success—protecting them from pain, offering them opportunities, and giving them the tools to thrive. But what if, in trying to shield our kids from struggles, we're actually limiting their potential? What if you could give your child a superpower—a mindset that turns challenges into opportunities, builds confidence through healthy struggles, and equips them to create value for themselves and others? I had my first paper route in the 3rd grade! Getting up early, rain or shine, instilled a work ethic in me and taught me so much more than an allowance ever did. That was back in the days when you had to collect the money from your customers by going door to door. In today's episode, we're diving into the principles of Value Creation Kid, a proven roadmap to raising financially competent, responsible, and resilient kids. Joining us is Lee Benson, a seasoned entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience as a CEO. Lee grew and sold his company, Able Aerospace, for 9-figures and now helps low income families thrive. Lee shares practical insights, including: How letting kids have healthy struggles builds resilience. Lee's childhood was rough and full of Ace's Adverse Childhood Expereinces, but despite this he learned how to turn struggles into capabilities and confidence. (See the 10 Ace questions below.) 55+ “Home Gigs (jobs)” to help kids earn, save, spend, and learn financial independence. Lee's struggles and expertise, combined with actionable steps for parents, will inspire you to equip your kids with the confidence and grit to succeed in the real world. Did they make you feel afraid you might be physically hurt? Physical Abuse: Did a parent or other adult in the household often push, grab, slap, or throw something at you? Or ever hit you so hard that you had marks or were injured? Sexual Abuse: Did an adult or older person ever touch you inappropriately, try to make you touch them sexually, or force you into sexual contact? Neglect Emotional Neglect: Did you often feel that no one in your family loved you or thought you were important or special? Or that your family didn't look out for or support each other? Physical Neglect: Did you often feel that you didn't have enough to eat, had to wear dirty clothes, or had no one to protect you? Or that your parents were too drunk or high to care for you or take you to the doctor if needed? Household Dysfunction Parental Separation or Divorce: Were your parents ever separated or divorced? Domestic Violence: Did your mother or stepmother (or another household adult) often get pushed, grabbed, slapped, or have something thrown at them? Or did they ever get hit, kicked, or threatened with a weapon? Substance Abuse: Did you live with anyone who was a problem drinker or alcoholic, or who used drugs? Mental Illness: Was a household member often depressed, mentally ill, or suicidal? Incarceration: Did a household member go to prison? How the ACE Score Works Each "yes" response equals 1 point, resulting in a total ACE score ranging from 0 to 10. Higher scores indicate a greater exposure to childhood adversity, which is associated with an increased risk of long-term health, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Are you struggling to find a therapist who truly understands and connects with your child? You're not alone. Pediatricians tell me that over half of the concerns they see in their practice are tied to mental health—whether it's the child the parents, or both. Tody, I'm thrilled to introduce you to a mom I've had the honor of coaching. She's an incredible parent, a natural caregiver, and a community leader. As a Type 2 on the Enneagram and an ESFJ in the Myers-Briggs system, her personality is known for warmth, compassion, and generosity. Yet, her intuitive and sensitive INFP Type 4 daughter needed a different approach to thrive. In this episode, you'll hear how our sessions—working one-on-one with her daughter and then together as a family—helped transform their relationship. This journey gave them tools to embrace their differences, compromise effectively, and connect more deeply. https://calendly.com/lwadsworth/clarity-callAbout Susan Masterson: Dr. Susan Masterson is a Licensed Psychologist with over 30 years combined training and experience with behavior modification, mental health treatment, lifestyle improvement, teaching, mentoring, and writing. She is the author of website (Autoimmune Self-Care) geared toward educating/helping people improve lifestyle behaviors while living with a chronic illness (Sjogren's Disease/Autoimmunity). Dr. Susan is also the creator/author of books, videos and educational content, all with a focus on strengthening the mind and body. What We Discuss In This Episode: Dr. Susan Masterson shares how she lived with an undiagnosed autoimmune disease for decades. It was a real mix of emotions for her on this journey, especially in light of how the healthcare professionals say lab work is fine – not such not good news when you're feeling terrible. Susan points out that we can't necessarily do anything about the things that are going to happen to us - we know we can't control everything – but we can have control over how we react to things. Her is finding ways to help people tap into those moments of, “I feel good.” (Not positive thinking. ) She hones in on things that make you smile, what makes you laugh, what makes you do that makes you feel good. For example, Susan talks about what you liked to do when you were a little kid? What made you laugh when you were little? Susan encourages us to find what lights us up. She also shares some mindfulness exercises – especially when it comes to feeling judged by others as to how they think you should or shouldn't react to your illness, pain or situation. You need to find those pockets of time and just fill your mental space with that as often as possible. Susan strongly encourages coloring for a good mindful state and shares her own experience in this regard. She shares her experiences with mindfulness guided drawing or coloring activities which have been shown to be better at reducing anxiety. She talks about a field of psychology called positive psychology. It's not the old psychology where they used to try to remove negative mood states, but this is a way to strengthen the positive and grow that positivity. Gratitude is a way to keep you there. Mindfulness, gratitude, the journaling can help keep you there. She emphasizes practicing the mindful journaling, mindful coloring, reiterating that that the whole point of what she shares is to fill the space rather than try to pull negative stuff out of the mental space. Susan shares about the Anxiety Relief Coloring Pages & Journal Prompts Book she published. This book is different to regular coloring books as it's anchors you to the present moment. Key Takeaways: How to generate your own positive emotions to benefit your well-being and physical health. How to elicit a positive emotional state. How present moment awareness/mindfulness can reduce chronic pain and facilitate healing. YOU"RE NOT ALONE>>>Website: https://www.nami.org/HomePhone: NAMI HELPLINE 800-950-6264 or TEXT "helpline" to 62640In 2020, the nation took a significant step forward with the enactment of the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act, a bill NAMI advocated for that created a nationwide three-digit number (988) to assist people experiencing a mental health or suicidal crisis. This number is now available in communities across the country.NAMI recognizes that other organizations have drawn distinctions between what diagnoses are considered “mental health conditions” as opposed to “mental illnesses.” We intentionally use the terms “mental health conditions” and “mental illness/es” interchangeably.A mental illness is a condition that affects a person's thinking, feelings, behavior, or mood. These conditions deeply impact day-to-day living and may also affect the ability to relate to others. If you have — or think you might have — a mental illness, the first thing you must know is that you are not alone. Mental health conditions are far more common than you think, mainly because people don't like to, or are scared to, talk about them. However:1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year1 in 20 U.S. adults experience serious mental illness each year1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24A mental health condition isn't the result of one event. Research suggests multiple linking causes. Genetics, environment, and lifestyle influence whether someone develops a mental health condition. A stressful job or home life makes some people more susceptible, as do traumatic life events. Biochemical processes and circuits and basic brain structure may play a role, too.None of this means that you're broken or that you, or your family, did something “wrong.” Mental illness is no one's fault. And for many people, recovery — including meaningful roles in social life, school, and work — is possible, especially when you start treatment early and play a strong role in your own recovery process.THERE'S HELP & HOPE...

Welcome back to the Soul Seekr Podcast. Today, my good friend Chris Hager comes on the show to share his journey in conscious parenting and relationships. Conscious parenting and conscious relationships are both focused on increasing self-awareness and developing deeper connections with others. It involves being present and attentive to your children's emotional, physical, and mental needs. It means treating your children as unique individuals and making conscious choices about how you raise them, rather than relying on old patterns or habits. Conscious parenting also involves being aware of your own emotions and reactions and working on yourself to become a more patient, empathetic, and loving parent.Conscious relationships involve being mindful and intentional in your interactions with your partner, friends, family, and others. It means communicating openly and honestly, being respectful and empathetic, and working together to resolve conflicts. Conscious relationships also involve being aware of your own needs and desires, as well as those of the other person, and making conscious choices about how you interact and respond to each other. Both conscious parenting and conscious relationships require ongoing self-reflection and self-improvement. By focusing on developing greater self-awareness and empathy, we can create deeper and more fulfilling connections with those around us, leading to happier and more meaningful lives.Enjoy the episode! Welcome back to Courage Is Calling! Over the last few weeks I've been ruminating - allowing thoughts and ideas to come when they're ready and I usually find when I have a bit more space or margin, I can sense certain things taking shape naturally. I notice that I keep coming back to certain themes within myself, in my processes and thoughts and I notice those things appearing or being talked about more frequently in my calls with groups and clients so I thought I'd share some of them with you today. I'm calling them Mantras - 5 ideas or ways of being that I really want to hold onto as I run my business and do my work this year. Some of these have been brewing for a while and are finally landing in my head and my heart and I want to offer them to you so you can think on them as well. So those are my five mantras: Trust is paramount (in yourself and your clients) Growth is not measured by numbers, but by depth of trust and impact in your work Create a body of work rather than churning out content Everything is an invitation, never an expectation I don't have to do this alone I wonder if any of these feel important for you to explore or take up for yourself and your work this year? I'd love to know if they are - so do feel free to DM me on instagram @melwiggins or to reach out on email hello@melwiggins.com and let me know. **And if you are interested in working together this year to help move your business and work into a place of alignment with your values, and of profit and purpose, my invitation to you is to have a look at my Brand Builder Programme. We have a beautiful community of female business owners in there that are working through the really powerful resources and tools that I've put together that will bring so much more ease and clarity to your work and over the life of the fourth month programme you've got me with you every step of the way. She went from being lost in life, dependent on drugs, alcohol, and sex to having an unexpected healing breakthrough within 1 week. Plant medicine initiated her into her healing journey. It taught her how to heal herself by doing Shamanic work, a self- exorcism, and working with the Quantum Field and mutli-dimensional healing. Through those initial experiences Vanessa became receptive to performing intuitive healings on family and friends. Simultaneously she is devoted to her own deep inner healing and also expanding her energy and abilities to help others. Vanessa uses her darkest days to help her understand and navigate the challenging experiences others may be facing. Vanessa is passionate about dismantling fragmentation. She is devoted to reconnecting people to themselves, their inner child, their shadow aspects, their higher self, and reconnecting all things that need to be integrated and repaired emotionally, mentally, physically, and energetically.FREE "SoulChat" with Sam: Calendly.com/SamKabertGRAB MY FREE GUIDE: SoulSeekrz.com/TermsSchedule a FREE Chat w/ me: Calendly.com/SamKabertMy Book "SOUL/Life Balance": https://cutt.ly/hAydeYsMagicMind | https://cutt.ly/VRADrOH use code "SoulSam" for 20% off!Wizard Teams (Virtual Teams For YOU Managed by US) | https://cutt.ly/xmVsYTe Check out my Review of Pixar's "SOUL" Movie | https://cutt.ly/OmVsUNe FREE Glossary of Spiritual Terms for the Newly Activated: https://soulseekrz.com/terms/ Wizard Websites - Learn to Build a Website w/ Virtual Assistants | https://bit.ly/3lCw2kU SHROOM BEACH Clothing | Use Promo Code "SoulSam" for 15% off with this link: https://cutt.ly/oItje42 Defiant Mushroom Coffee (Use "Sam15" for 15% OFF!) | https://defiantcoffee.co/ Permission to Podcast (Simply Show Up & Record): https://bit.ly/2N2NUoI LET'S BE SOCIALJoin the journey — come hangout on social mediaInstagram | https://www.instagram.com/samkabert/ Join the Soul Seekr Facebook Group | https://buff.ly/2yi8ldA Twitter | https://twitter.com/soul_seekr_ LinkedIn | https://www.linkedin.com/in/kabert/ YouTube | https://buff.ly/3e4kXUO ASK me ANYTHING: Email is Sam@CloneYourselfU.com and you can book a FREE business strategy call with me by going to Calendly.com/CLONE.Thank You,Sam Support the show
Laura is absolutely incredible and is a powerhouse. She has so many different layers and if you listen all the way to the end you get to hear her get extremely vulnerable about how she had the mental fortitude to go through an incredibly rare medical condition.
