In today's episode, Tim and Randy discuss the concept of an internal thermostat and its relation to personal beliefs and success.Everyone has an internal thermostat set to what they believe they deserve or what's possible in their business.Just like an air conditioner thermostat in a room kicks on and cools back a room back down to the set temperature, people may experience temporary success or improvement in their lives but eventually return to their old habits and comfort zones because their internal thermostat is set to a certain level. Most gym owners have their internal thermostats set too low. They don't believe they can achieve greater success in their business. The first step to overcoming such limiting beliefs is surrounding yourself with people who elevate your belief system, mindset, and possibilities.Feel like you need a new thermostat?Tune in to this episode for real-life examples of what's possible in your gym business!Key Takeaways- Where's your thermostat set? In fitness, client relationships can sometimes reach a point where it becomes necessary to part ways.Whether it's due to unmet expectations, a misalignment of goals, or simply not being the right fit for each other, handling client breakups with tact and integrity is crucial.By prioritizing the client's best interest and approaching the breakup with empathy and care, you can leave a lasting positive impression. This sets the stage for them to speak highly of your business, even if they didn't achieve their desired outcomes. In this episode, Tim and Randy explore the importance of leaving a positive impression even when ending a business relationship and how it can impact your reputation and future prospects.Key Takeaways- The breakup with your clients (03:07)- Perceived value vs. true value (04:43)- The value of leaving in good terms (05:40)- Is it in the client's best interest (07:12)- Do the right thing (11:16)Additional Resources- Relive Every Session of the 2023 FitPro Growth Summit- Apply For Your Profit Milestone Award - Learn more about The Iron Circle - Business Talk with Fitness Professionals Facebook group - Jump on a call with Randy---If you haven't already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts!
The concept of high-ticket offers has gained significant attention, not only within the fitness industry but across various sectors. Many gym owners ponder whether it makes more sense to sell high-ticket products or services to supplement their regular monthly subscriptions. The prospect of generating a large income quickly can be enticing for many gym owners, especially when they need an immediate influx of funds to cover expenses or stay afloat. The allure lies in the promise of significant revenue that high-ticket offers can bring, potentially transforming the financial outlook of a business in a short time frame. It is not uncommon for some businesses to achieve remarkable success, generating tens of thousands of dollars in a single month through high-ticket sales. However, Tim and Randy have observed a trend that gym owners often seek high-ticket solutions as a means to compensate for the shortcomings of their core business model. At its core, a sustainable gym business relies on recurring revenue exceeding its base operating expenses.Instead of constantly scrambling for new marketing strategies, challenges, and quick cash injections, a business should focus on building a strong foundation of recurring revenue.Tune in to this episode to learn more about the place of high ticket offers in your gym business and if/when to run them.Key Takeaways- The rise of high ticket offers (02:02)- Are you using high ticket offers to compensate for shortcomings? Operating a gym business can be challenging, especially when cash flow becomes an issue. Many gym owners find themselves in a bind, facing financial gaps that require quick decisions. When gym owners find themselves in a tight financial spot, the pressure to make up the shortfall can be immense. Desperate to meet payroll or cover expenses, they resort to creative but short-term solutions. These solutions can include hastily selling paid-in-full memberships, creating overnight challenges, or launching nutrition programs to generate immediate revenue. While these strategies may help in the short term, they often create larger problems and hinder long-term business sustainability.A key aspect of avoiding desperate decisions is implementing forecasting and focusing on monthly recurring revenue (MRR). Gym owners need to plan ahead and ensure that their MRR consistently exceeds their operating expenses. In this episode, Tim and Randy address the importance of foresight, disciplined actions, and focusing on sustainable growth to avoid falling into the cycle of desperate decision-making.Key Takeaways- Cash flow challenges in a gym (00:27)- Avoiding cash flow emergencies (03:14)- Forecasting ahead in your business (04:30)- You have to play the long game (08:21)- Slow, steady growth for long-term success (10:07)- Don't compromise your business (14:34)Additional Resources- Apply For Your Profit Milestone Award - Learn more about The Iron Circle - Business Talk with Fitness Professionals Facebook group - Jump on a call with Randy---If you haven't already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts!
As a gym owner, you must have seriously thought about what lies ahead in the next years of your life. Is the gym business the vehicle that will carry you through to retirement, or is it a vehicle to open up other opportunities? This is a point many gym owners struggle with, especially when they are no longer having to put out fires constantly. When the systems are dialed in and things aren't too tough.A few years ago, Tim found himself at a crossroads, wondering what's next. The gym was doing well, providing a good lifestyle, but deep down, he knew there was more to explore. He looked around the industry, searching for groups of gym owners who were playing at a higher level and were asking the same questions. To his surprise, such a group didn't exist, and he knew he had to create one. That's how the Iron Circle was born back in 2019.The Iron Circle is a community of high achievers, gym owners who are hungry for more, who constantly ask themselves, "What's next?"They've reached a level where their gyms are running smoothly, and they've started exploring new avenues—expanding their fitness empire, venturing into other businesses, making investments, and more. The possibilities are endless.Key Takeaways- History of the FitPro Growth Summit (00:23)- Tim's story (02:07)- What's next for gym owners (03:43)- Is the gym business your final career (10:45)- We help gym owners win (11:38)Additional Resources- Apply For Your Profit Milestone Award - Learn more about The Iron Circle - Business Talk with Fitness Professionals Facebook group - Jump on a call with Randy---If you haven't already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts!
In the fitness industry, trial offers are a popular marketing strategy to attract and retain new clients. As a gym owner, it's important to understand the different types of trials and front-end offers you can use to attract new members.Trials are essentially trial memberships for a shorter period of time, but it should be the same delivery system a regular member would receive. Front-end offers, or challenges are not the same as trials, as these are standalone programs with different delivery systems. In this episode, Tim and Randy explore 4 different types of trial offers and their pros and cons. The first type is the free trial, a common marketing strategy many gyms use. This type of trial can bring in many people, but the major con is that there is no skin in the game for the potential clients, which can lead to them not taking the trial seriously or not being committed to becoming long-term members.Tune in to learn more about the other type of trials and which one we recommend for your gym!Key Takeaways- What is a trial membership (02:31)- Trials vs. challenges (02:50)- The free trial (04:12)- The paid upfront converted at the back trial (05:46)- The Netflix trial (08:02)- The 2-week guarantee (10:40)Additional Resources- Learn more about our Brand New Coaching Program for Gym Owners- Grab your tickets for the 2023 FitPro Growth Summit use code Growth23 - Learn more about The Iron Circle - Business Talk with Fitness Professionals Facebook group - Jump on a call with Randy---If you haven't already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts!

We've all experienced a situation where a prospect books a consultation at the gym and fails to show up. As frustrating as that can be, it's important to interrogate the reasons why some people just dont show up.Forgot about the flimsy reasons you might have heard…. some will even say they forgot the appointment.Tim and Randy believe the main reason why they don't show up is a loss of motivation between booking the appointment and the appointment time. We are coming to the start of the new year, and it's that time when many gym owners are inundated with whiz-bang marketing campaigns that promise to bring in hundreds of new members to their businesses. But Tim and Randy believe that this is the wrong way to go about it.Focusing on these marketing campaigns that bring in an influx of new clients is just a recipe for chaos.Instead, we recommend that you focus on systems that allow you to grow and scale your business sustainably. With systems in place, you can then have marketing campaigns that bring in people all year round but in a way that doesn't overwhelm your business and allows you to provide the level of service your clients expect and deserve. That's the sexiness of systems.Key Takeaways- Fall to the level of your systems (01:48)- How to grow and scale your business (03:11)- Can your business take an influx of new clients (04:12)- A systems-based fitness business (09:54)- Keep everything simple (13:52)- How to have the best year of your fitness business (14:49)- Build your business around recurring revenue (18:19)Additional Resources- FREE 7-Figure Semi-Private Gym Blueprint- Learn more about our Business Accelerator Coaching Program for Gym Owners - Learn more about The Iron Circle - Grab your tickets for the 2023 FitPro Growth Summit Use Code WORM for 25% Off- Business Talk with Fitness Professionals Facebook group ---If you haven't already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts!
When it comes to a fitness business, it's not rocket science; the path is simple if you just follow the math.Unfortunately, many gym owners we come across tend to have an emotional attachment to their business which hinders their decision-making.A case in point is a gym owner in our Iron Circle who doesn't want to increase the rates of old members who are on much lower rates than newer members because he doesn't want to rock the boat. He doesn't want to lose these people because they have been there for a long time.Yet the math clearly shows that he could provide a much better service to all clients if he raised rates for everybody. This is just one example of emotional decision-making, but we see it all the time. The key to succeeding in this business is to follow the math, and you'll never go wrong.Key Takeaways- It's math, not rocket science (02:12)- What's your revenue per client (04:37)- The path is math (06:45)- Revenue is the driver of a business (08:55)- Standards over emotions (13:55)- The math of marketing (16:48)Additional Resources- Learn more about our Business Accelerator Coaching Program for Gym Owners - Learn more about The Iron Circle - Grab your tickets for the 2023 FitPro Growth Summit Use Code WORM for 25% Off- Business Talk with Fitness Professionals Facebook group ---If you haven't already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts!

Three years ago, in episode 50 of this podcast, we warned gym owners about the damage caused by the 6-Week Challenge type of marketing. We outlined the great damage it caused to a fitness business and why it wasn't worth it.It then came as a surprise to us when on a call with a gym owner heard that this type of thing is still going around, and some people are falling for it. Upon further inquiry in our Business Talk with Fitness Professionals Group, we heard that it's still common despite the damage we all know it causes.Understandably, it's very upsetting to hear gym owners paying as much as $40k and having nothing to show for it. And that's not all; they are left with a lot of mess to deal with.If you've even been thinking about this type of thing for your gym, just DON'T.In this episode, Tim and Randy explain why this is a very bad idea that will destroy your gym. Fitness is one of the few industries where most people are so close-minded they don't want to share anything with one another.Maybe the inherently competitive nature of the industry makes gym owners wrongly believe that sharing knowledge with one another will somehow be disadvantageous. We know this because we have also been there with this abundance vs. scarcity mindset. But, once we learned the value of sharing information with others in the industry, our fortunes completely changed. Ask any gym owner what they'd want for their gym right now…. a vast majority of them would say more clients. But at the same time, one of the hardest things most owners have a hard time conceptualizing is how to make their gyms different from all others in the marketplace. This is important because, in the eyes of the consumer, if all gyms look the same and seem to offer the same service, they'll go for the cheapest. It then becomes a race to the bottom, which is something we all don't want.Your task, therefore, is to create something unique, then market it to consumers as the reason they'll get results compared to the competition.Tune in to this episode to get tips on differentiating yourself to get more clients!Key Takeaways- Rethink everything (02:08)- The perceived value of quality (06:27)- What's your proprietary formula (10:09)- Higher price equals value (13:49)- How the marketplace responds to something unique (16:04)- Give the consumer something different (19:09)Additional Resources - Grab your tickets for 2023 FitPro Growth Summit- Learn more about our Business Accelerator Coaching Program for Gym Owners - Business Talk with Fitness Professionals Facebook group - Learn more about The Iron Circle

Let the other person know you value their time and their knowledge, so you are providing value in return. That value exchange will certainly get you what you want in life.Ensure you are investing in yourself to be in a position to provide value to others. Last month had 5 Mondays, a great opportunity for businesses that run a weekly billing cycle to collect more revenue than in other months. But this can prove challenging if you run a weekly or biweekly payroll schedule. In some months, you can easily find P&L reading negative due to higher-than-normal expenses. The solution to this problem is surprisingly simple. It lies in fixing your base operating expenses and locking in your payroll twice a month, adding up to 24 pay periods in a year. This means that with each check, the employee makes slightly more due to the reduced pay periods, but for the business, it brings stability and predictability. You can easily project your expenses. There will never be a time in a 30-day period where an extra pay period is needed.Wanna know how all this works in a fitness business? No two gym owners are in the same boat. So you need to look at yourself and the role you are playing in your business. This is one of the first steps we do when talking to new gym owner coaching clients. Are you involved in the business to a point where you have to be involved for it to generate revenue? If you are, then you are self-employed in your own business. The real test is, if you left your business for a few months, would it fall apart? Would it be there in full capacity or even have grown? If you're not intentional and clear that the direction and the work that you're doing on a daily basis is taking you to the position you want to be in, you're likely moving the other direction. You need to be a product of your product. Excerpts:Opportunities for growth occur when you surround yourself with like-minded people. You are the average of the five people you hang around with the most. If you are a business owner and you don’t have a “tribe, I highly suggest you figure that out and be intentional about it. Seek people that you aspire to learn from and that can help you grow in ways that you need.Be intentional with your time as well. If you love reading, but find yourself reading novels or non-fiction, switch gears and find books or audiobooks that are growth-focused. More often than not, when you hear people talking bad about you and your journey, it’s them projecting their own insecurities. What successful people do when they see adversity is, they run at it. They don’t come up with excuses for it, they’re not limited by it, but they see a problem and use it as an opportunity to learn and grow. In this episode, Tim and Randy will give us a bit of a behind the scenes look at their just concluded Iron Circle event, where they have their Iron Circle members fly in and have round tables where they share the biggest needle movers in their gym businesses and what they’re struggling with. The Iron Circle is made up of gym owners who make upwards of $400,000, and that is basically what guides the conversations at the event, because such gym owners only talk about how to further their business growth.Tim and Randy will share some of the valuable takeaways from the event based on what different Iron Circle members shared about their wins with their gyms. Tim will also talk about what he shared at the event on data, and how he used it at his gym to figure out where most of his revenue comes from, which clients bring in that revenue, and a lot of other valuable client-oriented data that now help in developing marketing strategies, structuring classes, and the overall daily decision-making processes. The issue of renting or owning for gym owners also featured prominently at the event, and Tim and Randy advocate for owning, but also advise those who rent to find ways of making money from their square footage whenever they’re not using it. That is tricky though, because a gym owner has to be keen on what they’re renting out their facility for just to avoid problems that might affect the gym’s operations. To learn all the great discussions they had that can help you grow your gym, you definitely have to listen to this episode. So stay tuned. Think about this scenario: You've just bought an insurance policy or signed a deal, and the very next second, the person who sold it to you is asking for referrals. It feels like a slap in the face, doesn't it?It seems they never truly valued you but only saw you as a stepping stone to their next customer. This is why most referral programs seriously miss the mark — they end up irritating new customers right from the start. So, if that's you, it's time to hit pause and reconsider your approach. After all, you haven't delivered on your promises right after a sale, yet you're asking someone to recommend your gym without giving them any reason.Instead, your focus should be on building a lasting relationship rooted in trust. Once you develop that bond, you can confidently ask for referrals. In this episode, Tim and Randy reveal their standout referral program that's been tried, tested, and proven to work. They'll also show you how to create loyalty and incentive referral programs based on clients' core values that are not only effective but also more affordable than you'd think.Tune in!Key Takeaways:Intro (00:00)Where you're going wrong with your referral program (01:10)The importance of building relationships (03:43)Past experiences with incentive-based referral programs (05:42)A loyalty referral program that works (07:36)Understanding your client's core values (11:06)Recap (17:24)Additional Resources:- Business Accelerator Program winninggym.com/call- Learn more about The Iron Circle - Business Talk with Fitness Professionals Facebook group - Jump on a call with Randy---If you haven't already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts!
Have you ever gotten a Black Friday promotion email just to ask yourself, “Who's this?!” “What do they want from me?” “Why am I even getting this?”Of course, you have. In fact, every day, we're all bombarded with promo emails, most of which we send straight to spam without even opening them. But with Black Friday around the corner, as gym owners preparing a campaign, we can't help but ask ourselves:How can we avoid our emails ending up in our prospects' spam? This week, Tim and Randy will try to answer this question. In one of the previous episodes, they shared strategies to collect leads, and in this one, they are diving into the topic of nurturing leads from your email list and keeping them engaged. Because here's the thing: A potential customer is excited when they first interact with a brand. But if months go by with no follow-up, reaching out suddenly for Black Friday may backfire. Those once-hot leads might wonder, "Who's this?" having forgotten they even signed up in the first place. So, in this episode, Tim and Randy will show you how to actually earn the right to pitch your offer to prospects (and ultimately boost your conversion rates). They'll be talking about building trust by sharing engaging content, offering valuable giveaways, using effective lead magnets and SMS campaigns, as well as what you should do to ensure your emails bypass spam filters.Tune in and find out what you can do to refine your engagement strategy.Key Takeaways:Intro (00:00)How Tim grew his email database over time (01:08)The crucial role of trust and respect in effective sales (05:23) How to avoid spam filters and a dramatic drop in open rates (07:36)Providing value with content tailored to client needs (13:36)A word or two about lead magnets (16:54)Two Key points for creating valuable giveaway content (21:35)Tim's 30-day text message campaign (23:11)Tailoring campaigns to niche micro-segments (25:09)Recap (28:54)Additional Resources:- Sign up for our 30-Day Text Message Campaign - - -- Business Accelerator Program winninggym.com/call- Learn more about The Iron Circle - Business Talk with Fitness Professionals Facebook group - Jump on a call with Randy---If you haven't already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts!
Gym owners and fitness coaches often dream about growing their business and earning more, picturing a future with many gym locations under their brand. But is this grand vision always the best idea?Even though many in the Iron Circle own multiple gyms, Tim chose to remain grounded with a single location. It wasn't because he didn't have chances to expand – there were plenty over the years. However, Tim made a calculated decision not to expand into multiple locations. He looked at gyms not merely as physical spaces but as ways to earn money. For him, the return on investment for multiple gyms didn't seem better than trying different things. The challenges of getting a new rent deal, buying additional equipment, and running multiple locations didn't seem worth it. It wasn't the wealth vehicle he sought. With the fitness industry being super competitive, one needs both a lot of money and tons of customers to reap significant profits. And it's riskier than putting money in things like real estate. Tim realized this and started looking at other ways to invest, not just brick-and-mortar gyms.In this episode, Tim and Randy discuss how gym owners can maximize returns on their investments with alternative strategies rather than opening new facilities.Join them now!Key Takeaways:Intro (00:00)Multiple locations - yes or no? In the fitness world, there's a lot of chatter about adding a 'pre-qualification' or 'discovery' call before in-person appointments. The idea is to prequalify potential clients over a brief 7-10 minute call, and hopefully, when they come in, they're more likely to sign up.Usually, Tim and Randy's gym booked direct appointments and sealed the deal face-to-face. The new approach suggests an initial call, followed by an in-person consultation. On the surface, it seems like adding extra steps, potentially complicating the client's journey. But on the flip side, it seems practical; after all, people might prefer a call over an in-person meeting. So, they decided to run an A/B test, comparing their usual method with the new call-first strategy. While their results leaned heavily towards one approach, some of their peer gyms from the Iron Circle had totally different outcomes. The bottom line? One size doesn't fit all. While it's tempting to adopt a new technique based on its success elsewhere, it's crucial to test it out for yourself first before overhauling the system that you have.Tune in to this episode where Tim and Randy dive into the A/B test results, covering leads, conversions, percentages, investment… They'll also analyze the factors that favor one method over another and provide insights on optimizing your processes.Don't miss it!Key Takeaways:Intro (00:00)FREE Black Friday webinar (01:24)Lead conversion methods in the fitness industry (01:39)A/B test: in-person consultations vs. discovery calls (02:32)Reasons to do a discovery call first (10:13)Optimizing gym marketing processes through testing (11:40)The marketplace is the ultimate decider (16:36)Recap (18:38)Additional Resources:- Register for our FREE Black Friday webinar - Business Accelerator Program winninggym.com/call- Learn more about The Iron Circle - Business Talk with Fitness Professionals Facebook group - Jump on a call with Randy---If you haven't already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts!

A couple of weeks back, Randy checked in with a gym owner from Iron Circle. The owner felt he'd been out of the loop. "July's been rough," he said.It wasn't just his gym. Across the board, July posed challenges for many gym owners. Randy comforted him, saying business has its ups and downs and all that jazz. But when the owner mentioned his $9,000 Delta growth in May compared to a modest $900 growth in July, they had to dive deeper. Here's the twist: for three out of the four weeks in July, he wasn't even present at his gym! Yet, his business not only held its ground but also grew by $900. That potentially means 18 new members were added and serviced seamlessly by his team in his absence.Obviously, he hadn't considered the immense value of the time freedom his business was now affording him. It's not always about the gross revenue or flashy numbers. Sometimes, it's about unnoticed wins, like being away from your gym and still seeing it thrive. This new understanding changed how he saw things. What he thought was a setback was actually a big win for his business: having free time and knowing his gym runs well even when he's not there. That's the beauty of understanding success beyond just profit and loss. Your business should work for you, not the other way around. This Iron Circle story is a testament to the often-overlooked victories that aren't always evident in the numbers. In this episode, Tim and Randy share other Iron Circle members' wins, unpack what real success looks like, and explain how to achieve that with true leadership training.Join them, and let's discover how you can leave your gym for some time and still win in this game.Key Takeaways:Intro (00:00)What does success look like for you as a gym owner? In today's episode, Tim and Randy dive into an often-overlooked aspect of gym management that can make or break your business: optimizing the lead-to-member journey.Think of this journey as a chain, where each link represents a step in the process of converting a potential gym-goer into a full-fledged member. One weak link can halt the entire conversion process, leading gym owners to mistakenly scrap entire marketing campaigns. Essentially, that's throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Why does this happen? Each step in your conversion process - from lead acquisition and booking an appointment to member sign-up - has its own conversion percentage. If you're not tracking these percentages, you're flying blind. So what's the solution?Optimization.Instead of scrapping a generally well-functioning system due to one problematic area, focus on refining that weak link. A minor tweak could be all you need to massively improve your overall conversion rates.Even if you're not a marketing whiz, understanding your business metrics and knowing which aspects affect your conversion percentages is essential. It's not just about knowing where you're going wrong; it's also about knowing where you can go right.Tune in for this episode and let Tim and Randy show you how to pinpoint your weak link and transform it into a potential game-changer for your gym.Let's dive in!Key Takeaways:Intro (00:00)One weak link in the lead-to-member journey can break it all (01:33)Laying out the conversion system left to right (04:03)What works in theory doesn't always work in reality (08:11)Optimizing your lead-to-member conversion system (10:02)Why most gym owners are good converters (14:48)Adding a call to your lead-to-member conversion system - yes or no? Imagine having a dozen new clients next week without launching new campaigns, spending extra money, or pitching your gym's benefits. This might sound unrealistic, as our usual strategy for attracting more clients typically involves generating fresh leads, expanding our email list, or designing new ad campaigns to draw in new members to the gym. There's also the important aspect of nurturing relationships with these new gym-goers, going above and beyond, and earning their trust – all crucial for a gym's long-term success. But what if these potential clients already know and are keen to return to your gym? Yes, we're talking about your past clients. Have you ever wondered if it's worth reconnecting with them?In this episode, we dive into that big topic: getting your past clients back. These individuals once benefited from your services but eventually left for various reasons. Now, they're just names in your database, not receiving any of your attention, and here lies untapped potential.Past clients won't simply return on their own. It's challenging for them to just show up again, especially if they left feeling a bit lazy or like they've failed. There's a significant psychological barrier to overcome. But with some encouragement, they will return. They need your personal invitation, and you don't need extensive preparation for that. Remember, these are people who already know, like, and trust you. They've paid you before, so there's no need to start from scratch.A few thoughtful messages and emails expressing that you've been thinking about them, that you miss them, and that you prefer their familiar presence to attracting new clients can make all the difference. This strategy has been successfully used within the Iron Circle for years. So, if you're looking for an innovative approach to increase your client base without the hassle of new leads, extra spending, or complex marketing tactics, this episode is a must-listen.
