In this episode, FAQ is: What are the best stretching methods for solo travel. Today's Destination is: Kerala, India Today's Misstep- I did not get to use my airline credits on Spirit. Travel Advice: U-shaped airline pillows can be stuffed with clothes. FAQ: What are the best stretching methods for solo travel? Stretching offers several benefits for your solo female traveler's body, including improvements in flexibility, range of motion, and overall well-being. Here are some ways stretching can positively impact your body: Increased Flexibility: Stretching helps lengthen muscles and tendons, which can improve your flexibility. This increased flexibility can enhance your ability to perform various activities and exercises. Improved Range of Motion: Regular stretching can contribute to an increased range of motion in your joints. This is particularly beneficial for activities that require a wide range of motion, such as playing sports or performing certain exercises. Enhanced Circulation: Stretching promotes better blood circulation throughout the body. Improved circulation can help deliver nutrients to muscles and remove waste products, improving overall health. Reduced Muscle Tension and Soreness: Stretching can help alleviate muscle tension and reduce soreness after physical activity. It can also aid in preventing muscle imbalances, leading to discomfort or injury. Improved Posture: Stretching the muscles around the spine, shoulders, and hips can contribute to better posture. Proper posture is essential for preventing musculoskeletal issues and promoting overall spinal health. Enhanced Athletic Performance: Athletes often incorporate stretching into their warm-up routines to prepare their bodies for physical activity. Improved flexibility and range of motion can positively impact athletic performance and reduce the risk of injuries. Stress Relief: Gentle stretching exercises like yoga can promote relaxation and reduce stress. This is achieved through physical movement, controlled breathing, and mindfulness. Joint Health: Stretching helps maintain the health of your joints by promoting fluid circulation and preventing stiffness. This is especially important as you age, as flexibility and joint health become increasingly crucial. Improved Balance and Coordination: Stretching exercises that target specific muscle groups can enhance balance and coordination. This is beneficial for activities that require stability and precise movements. I would like to point out that stretching should be done gradually and in a controlled manner. Avoid bouncing or forcing your body into extreme positions, as this can lead to injuries. A well-rounded fitness routine that combines strength training, cardiovascular exercise, and flexibility training (including stretching) is generally recommended for overall health and fitness. Today's destination: Kerala, India Kerala, a state on India's tropical Malabar Coast, has nearly 600km of Arabian Sea shoreline. It's known for its palm-lined beaches and backwaters, a network of canals. Inland are the Western Ghats, mountains whose slopes support tea, coffee and spice plantations and wildlife. National parks and other sanctuaries are home to elephants, langur monkeys, and tigers. Named one of the world's ten paradises by National Geographic Traveler, Kerala is famous especially for its ecotourism initiatives and beautiful backwaters. Its unique culture and traditions, coupled with its varied demography, have made Kerala one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. I flew Indigo Air to Cochin, near Kerala. I was in southwestern India now. Today's Misstep- I did not get to use my airline credits on Spirit. Today's Travel Advice-U Shaped Airline pillows can be stuffed with clothes. Dr. Udaya Thomas' journey to becoming a Ph.D trained behavioral health nurse scientist begins in the Indian state of Kerela from where her parents immigrated to the United States when she was just a toddler. Growing up in the American mid-west, Dr. Thomas recalls being challenged by a constant dose of bullying because of the color of her skin and her ethnicity, experiences that have helped mold her into a champion for the proverbial underdog. Strongly held values that elevate the welfare of community over self, instilled by her parents and cultural heritage, have guided her trajectory as a professional – from social worker to public health expert and nurse practitioner (including at a women's prison) - a career that has enabled her to leave her mark on health systems around the globe. Today, Dr. Udaya Thomas is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program at Assaf College of Nursing, Nova Southeastern University, in Miramar, Florida.Tune in to Season 2, episode 10 of “Mental Health Trailblazers: Psychiatric Nurses Speak Up” to hear Dr. Udaya Thomas' inspiring story and learn about the integrative models of health care that address both the physical and mental health needs of patients, that she has been both researching and practicing. Dr. Thomas proposes that integrative group medical visits can optimize health outcomes and provide cost effective alternatives to address the unmet psychiatric mental health needs of underserved and marginalized communities. You can learn more about how this works through this animation video created by Dr. Thomas to illustrate the key findings of her doctoral dissertation: A Retrospective Analysis of Integrative Group Medical Visits for Low-Income Patients with Anxiety Disorders in Primary Care https://youtu.be/LeBX3ZpnvT0

The Kerala State government has backed down from amending its Police Act to include imprisonment for social media posts considered "offensive" or "defamatory". But different efforts to tackle disinformation across the country throughout 2020 indicate that we risk short-term responses without considering the long-term fall out. In this episode, Rohan Seth talks to Prateek Waghre about how we should not regulate disinformation and principles we could use to approach this question.Referred Links:https://techpolicy.substack.com/p/of-regulating-information-and-disorderhttps://www.cambridge.org/core/books/disinformation-age/1F4751119C7C4693E514C249E0F0F997https://twitter.com/prateekwaghre/status/1269275993073577984https://techpolicy.substack.com/p/of-the-state-and-states-of-informationNote:This episode was recorded before the Amendment was formally withdrawn. On today's episode we discuss: — Epidemiology: A sharp peak in rates of intestinal obstruction (IO) during the lockdown period in Kerela, India (referred to as "lockdown belly") leads authors to propose four common risk factors, 75% are modifiable with diet and physical activity. These include: 60 years of age or older, prior abdominal surgery, strict adherence to lockdown restrictions, and poor quality diet. — Understanding the Pathology: A cross sectional study from Columbia University that analyzed kidney biopsies of SARS-CoV-2 infected patients (n=17), revealed a spectrum of glomerular and tubular injuries, acute kidney injury (88%), and lack of SARS-CoV-2 detection in kidney cells as evidence against direct viral injury as a pathophysiologic mechanism of disease. Authors conclude that the principle nephrogenicity of SARS-CoV-2 likely results from ischemic damage and a dysregulated immune response. '— Transmission and Prevention: A group of psychologists found that habit reversal training (HRT) was an effective method of treating repetitive behavior problems, such as face touching, and therefore may be an effective strategy for decreasing transmission of SARS-CoV-2. The principles of HRT are centered on mindfulness and behavior modification, and authors include a practical guide to implementing these practices. — Management: italian authors describe how the anti-coagulant Defibrotide may be the “drug of choice” for treating the hypercoagulable state associated with severe COVID-19 disease because of its profibrinolytic, antithrombotic, and anti-inflammatory effects. These would theoretically protect from the growing evidence implicating the role of endothelial damage and a hyperinflammatory state in SARS-CoV-2 infection. '— Transmission and Prevention:describes the effect of T cell imbalance, specifically between Treg and Th17, on uncontrolled systemic inflammation in severe COVID-19 cases in pregnancy found that: - Treg cells decreased and Th17 cells increased, with a consequent decrease in the Treg/Th17 cell ratio. - Treg cells dysregulation in COVID-19 was shown trigger hyperinflammation and tissue damage. - Increased Th17 is associated with fetal allograft rejection at the feto-maternal interface. - COVID-19 infection puts pregnant persons at higher risk for pregnancy complications. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/covid19lst/support

Welcome to the first episode of NL Hafta in 2019! Host Abhinandan Sekhri is joined by the regular gang of Manisha Pande, Raman Kirpal and Anand Vardhan, and special guest Dushyant Arora, lawyer and chief editor of News Central 24x7.The conversation starts with Abhinandan asking the panellists their views on ANI editor Smita Prakash’s interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The interview's earned a fair share of commentary and dissent, primarily against the journalist for being too soft on the PM. Anand takes the lead on the issue, saying he does not find it objectionable if a member of the media is respectful to a man in Modi's position. “That is the dignity the office carries, not the individual,” he says. But is it really respect or is it diffidence? Dushyant says, “The dignity of the office … is enhanced with greater questioning.”The panel then discusses the 28 counts of criminal defamation filed by Anil Ambani against various news organisations. Dushyant weighs in with a legal perspective, describing how the provisions of the NSA stack the odds against the accused, and how defamation has historically been used as a tool to "intimidate and silence" journalists. The conversation shifts to the 620-kilometre human wall formed by women in Kerela. Abhinandan notes that the effort was backed by the state to support the feminist struggle regarding entry of women of menstrual age into Sabarimala temple. Manisha candidly says the act, while commendable, didn’t really move her. She says this is not where “the heart of the feminist battle lies”. Dushyant adds that the act of conducting a shudhikaran after two women managed to enter the temple is unconstitutional.Moving on to the BJP-Congress faceoff about making a rendition of Vande Mataram, Abhinandan says, “For any society to progress, there has to be an active opposition of defiance for such things.” The panel unanimously spoke against this, as well as the mandate that requires movie theatres to play the national anthem and viewers to stand in a perfunctory display of patriotism.Another issue that sparked impassioned discussion from the panel was the leaked Rafale audio clip. They raised questions and expressed curiosity about the identity of the elusive “Mr X”—the journalist heard in conversation with Goa minister Vishwajit Rane. Abhinandan points out this oversight in the reportage of the issue on primetime news channels.Tune in to NL Hafta to find out more! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Cheap And Tasty Snacks/Food in Kathmandu, Nepal I have been coming to Kathmandu for many years so I have dined at most of the famous restaurants, especially in Thamel. On this trip I started venturing out to try some new cheap places. I've already got some new favorites including Western Tandoori and Naan House, Dudh Sagar, Classic Momo Express, along with old favorites like BK's. On a couple of occasions I shared a table at Western Tandoori with other travellers that had eaten there multiple times on the same trip. With the recent passing of Anthony Bourdain, I can't help but think that eating at hole in the wall or humble places didn't have the wide acceptable exposure until Mr. Bourdain came along and showed us it was OK. His shows that featured eating at a roadside restaurant in Rajasthan, or street food in Kerela or some other far flung place was not only cool but not as risky as one might think. I ate sometimes on multiple occasions at the places featured in this video and I never got sick. Hope you enjoy the video. Send me some feedback if you want to see more videos like this. So many people now are doing food videos on YouTube that I think it's a bit of saturated topic but hopefully my take is maybe a little bit different and even amusing. Thanks again!
