RBI Pushes Banks to Adopt ‘.bank.in' Domain for Safer Digital Banking In a major cybersecurity move, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has asked all banks to migrate to the new ‘.bank.in' domain by October 31, 2025. The initiative aims to curb rising digital payment frauds and phishing attacks, enhancing user trust in digital banking. The migration will be managed by IDRBT, under the supervision of NIXI and the Ministry of Electronics and IT. Banks are urged to begin the transition immediately, with IDRBT guiding the technical process. 2. IMF Cuts India's Growth Forecast Amid Global Trade Slowdown The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has slashed India's FY26 growth forecast to 6.2% from 6.5%, citing global trade tensions and policy uncertainty. IMF chief economist Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas said businesses are pausing investments due to the volatile environment. Despite the downgrade, India remains the fastest-growing major economy, with FY27 growth pegged at 6.3%. However, the global outlook is dim: trade growth for 2025 is seen at just 1.7%, and advanced economies like the US and Europe are expected to slow sharply. 3. Trident Launches ₹2,000 Cr Fund for Growth-Stage Startups Trident Growth Partners, backed by Ranjan Pai's Claypond Capital, has launched a ₹2,000 crore fund to support Series B and C startups across sectors like consumer, fintech, healthcare, and tech. The fund will invest ₹150–170 crore in 10–12 companies with scalable models. Trident's backers include startup founders from Lenskart, Policybazaar, KreditBee, and Livspace. With a strong exit record from 14 unicorns and 8 IPOs, Trident has already made its first bet in SaaS firm Spotdraft and is lining up more deals, aiming to bridge India's mid-market funding gap. 4. Mutual Fund Fees Rise Despite Market Slump Investors in direct equity mutual funds are facing a double whammy — market downturns and higher expense ratios (TERs). A Mint analysis found that 62% of direct equity schemes increased TERs from Sept 2024 to March 2025, even as many saw asset growth. While Sebi caps TERs based on fund size, there's no rule on timing of hikes, creating room for asset managers to raise fees strategically. In contrast, regular plans — which include distributor commissions — mostly kept or cut their TERs. Sebi's earlier proposal to shift TER slabs to the AMC level is currently on hold. 5. HCLTech Leads in Growth, Warns of Weak FY26 HCL Technologies outpaced peers like TCS, Infosys, and Wipro with 4.3% revenue growth in FY25, reaching $13.84 billion. But it projects just 2–5% growth for FY26, its slowest outlook since 2020, amid macro uncertainty and tariff headwinds. CEO C. Vijayakumar cited weak discretionary spending and client delays. Net profit rose 7.65% to $2.04 billion, with margins expanding due to strong performance in its software products arm. Still, HCLTech cut over 4,000 jobs, signaling a cautious approach to hiring, unlike its peers. The company says FY26 hiring will be “quarterly and cautious,” as AI and soft demand reshape the IT workforce.

Naaga - came before Simhadri. turned it off after 15 minutes. Such a loud and violent movie. Viyadagar and Deva composed the music  Andhrawala - came after Simhadri and released with tremendous hype, first Telugu movie to have 10 lakhs people come to the audio launch, Rakshita weirdest character, NTR 2nd get up is so bad and simple routine revenge drama didnt work at all. I just remember it being bad. Niamey Niamey shook the industry if im not wrong. Raghava Lawrence was the choreographer. And Mumbai slum set was done in Hyderabad at a studio by Art director Chinna. Another song Kokkoka Misaa, nah dil lo ivvani visa, oorinchake samosa, naa favorite onion dosa.  Samba - rod movie. Producer of the movie is Kodak Nani. Unintentionally funny. Out and out mass entertainer and too violent. So many heads get chopped off in this. Violence is not a problem but when it's senseless it becomes a lot to process. NTR has this weird dialogue delivery and he like shouts at the person and is hyper in all the emotional scenes. NTR comes to Prakash Raj house and sits down in a chair. Prakash Raj raises one eyebrow and then NTR raises both eye browses. This is supposedly to be a mass warning or mass counter lmao.  Climax kicks head like a soccer ball and then kid stops a bomb by peeing on it. Then Prakash Raj kills Vijayakumar and pricks the dead body with the sharp point of the knife. Due to the hype and combo, it ended up as an above average at the box office but was not a hit.  Naa Alludu - funniest movie. Intro NTR stands on a car and throws a rod and Shreya and Genelia go flying, then it shifts to a house set with NTR, Ramya Krishna, and Sriya Genelia. Some weird things happen and outdated story about atha alludu. Yem Peru Murugan is the best song  Narasimhudu - Another rod movie, NTR is apparently a mute and makes all these funny faces biting his teeth around Ashish Vidyarthi and kills everybody. Only songs are good. Mani Sharma mass. All of the songs are so good, my favorite are Rajamandrike and Muddula Gopala,  Ashok - another overly violent mass masala movie, Sonu Sood and his mom do some weird things and its just too long and outdated, Gola Gola song is all I remember NTR dance steps are so good.  Shakthi - already reviewed it but Meher Anna already described it in the audio launch. Missile launch ki mana ice value enthandi. Ileana, sets, and mani Sharma music were the highlights. Pharaohs in 1983 apparently when the pyramids were built in 300BC. Story actually has potential with Shakthi peethams but it just turns into simple revenge drama. NTR get up in 2nd half as Rudra is worst.  Oosaravelli - Came during Dookudu, Pilla Zamindar time, trailer created huge impact and generated huge openings, current wire dialogue and songs were good, but movie is rod. Rewatched it for the pod. Nothing in the movie. Badly written, cringe comedy aplenty, no entertainment and worst editing. Tamannah meets NTR on the highway and during their convo, NTR in a car and Tamannah in an ambulance keeps spinning. Villain Rakesh and Payal Ghosh worst lip sync. 2nd half most over the top flashback with Tamannah and her family, Anjaneyam episode is full headache. Vidyut Jammwal got his ass kicked by NTR in back to back movies and then Prakash Raj such a useless villain, BGM is also terrible.  Ramayya Vasthavayya: movie originally had some other story but due it being too similar to Mirchi, Dil Raju asked for a rewrite and they made this crap. Too violent, routine, and boring. Comedy scenes are so bad and entire flashback is peaks of routine. NTR acting is nothing new and Harish Shankar downfall started with this movie. Songs by Thaman were good.  Rabhasa: Came at a time when audience was done with Sreenu Vaitla's comedy template of making villains barks by entering a house and then this movie comes and NTR had no outstanding blockbusters since Brindavanam. Such cringe and routine comedy, same old family problem bullshit.  Brahmanandam worst comedy.

Most business owners believe that sales is their problem when it's actually just a symptom of poor and unclear messaging. What is messaging, then? In this episode, Karthik Vijayakumar explains what messaging really is and how the right words can help you convert sales. All you need to do is tell people what you do for your audience and how you help them solve their biggest problems. And your website homepage (among other channels) should do that work for you even while you are sleeping. The job of a homepage is very simple: it should tell people who you are, what you do, and what you can do for your target audience, and offer a small little thing (lead magnet) to start a relationship. Yes, you can talk about features and services, but everything needs to come together, and that's what Karthik calls messaging.   Links 432 - Show Notes Karthik's LinkedIn profile Karthik's Website Karthik's Podcast Cloud Consultants Collective SendSpark   Connect With Paul  On LinkedIn On Facebook On Twitter: @PaulHiggins555 On Instagram: @paulhigginsmentoring Email: Paul@paulhigginsmentoring.com   Thank You for Tuning In!

Is the recent selling in markets overdone?

Since the US Federal Reserve hiked rates by 75 basis points last Wednesday, the  Sensex and the Nifty50 indices have tumbled nearly 2% each, turning negative in terms of returns for 2022. As per technical charts, over half of the Nifty500 index constituents have been dragged below their respective 200-day moving averages with the recent selloff.  Technically, the 200- DMA provides a broad outlook of the underlying trend in a stock or an index for long-term investors. Traders prefer stocks and indices that are above the 200-DMA, since they tend to perform better over time.    Analysts, however, say this correction has been overblown due to panic selling by investors. G Chokkalingam, Founder and CIO, Equinomics Research believes selling in domestic markets is overdone. Indian markets have been penalised for problems of the West, he says. India's GDP growth still has been resilient. Fall in oil prices, good monsoon, healthy Kharif crop to keep sentiment positive.  Sharing similar views, VK Vijayakumar of Geojit Financial Services says, despite an unfavourable global macro construct in the short-run, the Indian markets will outperform their global peers.  Vijayakumar says, “With the Fed staying ultra-hawkish, the 5% slide in the MSCI world index last week reflects the bearish undertone of global equities. However, India will outperform both in economic growth and market performance”.  “Selective buying can be done in domestic economy-facing segments like financials, auto, capital goods, and others,” Vijayakumar says.  That said, the Sensex and Nifty indices slid below their 50-day moving averages on Monday. And the duo can continue the slide on breaching the key support levels of 200-day moving averages, as per technical charts.  Avdhut Bagkar of Business Standard reports, 268 stocks trade below 200-DMA; 37 added on Monday. Sensex stocks: Tata Steel, Power Grid, TCS, Wipro below 200-DMA. Nifty support at 16,700-16-800; Sensex support at 56,000 levels. Today, global market trends, FII inflows, rupee-dollar levels and oil prices will dictate the market trajectory.

Sensex, Nifty could witness biggest May decline since 2012. What next?

Equities fought volatility and surged last week, as stocks danced to the tunes of global cues, domestic news flow and corporate earnings.  Among indices, financials lead from the front, while a steep cut in excise duty on fuel prices and capping of sugar exports, saw stocks from these sectors react negatively. Eventually, the BSE Sensex moved in a band of 1,500 points, and finally ended the week with 1 per cent gain. The NSE Nifty, on the other hand, was up 0.5 per cent, while the Bank Nifty surged nearly 4 per cent. However, despite last week's gains, the benchmark indices may end the current month on a negative note, marking their biggest declines in May since 2012. The BSE benchmark Sensex and the Nifty were down close to 4 per cent so far this month, primarily dragged down by the persistent FII selling.  Foreign investors have, now, been net sellers for eight straight months and have net sold stocks worth more than 52,000 crore rupees so far this month. According to VK Vijayakumar of Geojit Financial Services, FPI selling is showing mild signs of exhaustion. DII and retail buying together with overwhelming FPI selling along with short covering can trigger a near-term rally. High quality large-caps can stage a rally, says Vijayakumar, adding that leading banks are safe bets.  Against this backdrop, Business Standard's Avdhut Bagkar shares how the banking stock is placed on the charts. Going ahead, markets will look at Q1CY22 GDP number, slated to be announced on Tuesday, for fresh cues on the economic recovery. As per a Reuters poll of economists, India's economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic likely stumbled again in the first quarter of this year primarily due to Omicron-related restrictions and higher inflation. ‘Growth in Asia's third-largest economy was pencilled in at 4.0% for the January-March quarter from the same period a year ago, down from 5.4% in Q4 2021. If realised, that would be the slowest in a year and a third consecutive quarter of weaker growth'. Amid these triggers, technical charts suggest that the NSE Nifty managed to close above its 20-DMA for the first time since April 13, 2022. The Nifty may look to target the trendline resistance around 16,750 in the near term.  On the downside, the index can expect support around 16,200-level. As we draw curtains on the Q4 earnings season, stocks like Aurobindo Pharma, Delhivery, IRCTC, Jindal Steel and Sun Pharma could see some action ahead of earnings on Monday.

Equities or bonds? Where to invest in a rising interest rate scenario

Business Standard Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 13, 2022 5:33

Equities and bond markets have been mired in uncertainty as global central banks turn off liquidity taps even as they stare at feeble economic growth due to the Ukraine-Russia war. After three months into the new calendar year, returns from domestic benchmark indices remain nil. Globally, the benchmark indices in Japan, China, the US, the UK, Russia, and Europe have given negative returns between 7 and 31 per cent.  In the money market, the 10-year US bond yields have inched up over 70 per cent so far this year, while domestic yields have hardened 11.5 per cent.   A rise in bond yields indicates losses on the bonds an investor already owns. And the road ahead isn't getting easier. According to analysts, the problem for equity investors is they are unclear where the peak in inflation is. Fixed income or bond markets, on the other hand, fear that aggressive monetary policy will hit the economy, animal spirits and consumer demand.   As pointed out by Akash Prakash in a Business Standard Opinion piece, we are entering a dangerous phase for the US economy and markets. If the US yield curve inversion remains for 90 days, the US markets go into a significant decline, equity markets globally will struggle till differentiation sets in and the fundamentals prevail again. Back home, the RBI's Monetary Policy Committee retained its accommodative stance, but changed the wording to remain accommodative while focusing on withdrawal of accommodation to ensure that inflation remains within the target going forward. This, analysts say, hints that the RBI will likely change its policy stance to neutral in the June MPC meeting, setting the stage for a short rate hiking cycle in the second half of 2022. Against this backdrop, where should investors park their money in a rising interest rate scenario? Vijayakumar also says financials may also perform well in FY23 as rising interest rates will support interest income. However, if someone is risk averse and prefers debt market over equities, Sunil Subramaniam suggests investing in floating interest rate-linked bond schemes.   Clearly, markets are in for a wild ride till inflation scenario becomes clearer and the Ukraine-Russia war ends with a mutually agreeable solution. Given this, the movement in bond yields will dictate equity markets globally in the near-term. On Wednesday, markets will react to the retail inflation data of India, and the US, and will track Q4 result of IT major Infosys.

In the mid-1990s, experts predicted that India would face the world's biggest AIDS epidemic by 2000. Though a crisis at this scale never fully materialized, global public health institutions, donors, and the Indian state initiated a massive effort to prevent it. HIV prevention programs channeled billions of dollars toward those groups designated as at-risk—sex workers and men who have sex with men. At Risk: Indian Sexual Politics and the Global AIDS Response (Stanford UP, 2021) captures this unique moment in which these criminalized and marginalized groups reinvented their "at-risk" categorization and became central players in the crisis response. The AIDS crisis created a contradictory, conditional, and temporary opening for sex-worker and LGBTIQ activists to renegotiate citizenship and to make demands on the state. Working across India and Kenya, Gowri Vijayakumar provides a fine-grained account of the political struggles at the heart of the Indian AIDS response. These range from everyday articulations of sexual identity in activist organizations in Bangalore to new approaches to HIV prevention in Nairobi, where prevention strategies first introduced in India are adapted and circulate, as in the global AIDS field more broadly. Vijayakumar illuminates how the politics of gender, sexuality, and nationalism shape global crisis response. In so doing, she considers the precarious potential for social change in and after a crisis. Gowri Vijayakumar is Assistant Professor of Sociology and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Brandeis University. Sneha Annavarapu is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Chicago. On the Indoor Air Quality & You podcast, we've already discussed the role of energy recovery ventilation (ERV) in high performing, single-family homes, as well as the benefits of increased ventilation. In fact, in the wake of the pandemic, air quality is more critical than it's ever been. With that in mind, multi-family homes offer even more challenges. They have unique design considerations, including those around air quality, and air quality is a preeminent safety issue as residents carry concerns about contaminants and the spread of disease.Because of multiple inhabitants and the nature of shared spaces, the construction of these projects is evolving to focus more on high performance and strategies to help builders provide healthy and high-performing homes for residents. To learn more, host Tyler Kern welcomed Gayathri Vijayakumar, Principal Mechanical Engineer at Steven Winter Associates, and Nick Agopian, VP of Sales and Marketing for RenewAire, to this episode of the show.Overall, the most important concept in creating high performing, multi-family homes begins with a shared goal to do more than the bare minimum that construction codes require.Vijayakumar explained the Indoor airPLUS program, which was established by the EPA and is thematically similar to ENERGY STAR . “The program is prescriptive and [offers] a checklist of all the things for higher performance. First, the building must have ENERGY STAR standards, then layer on the indoor air quality elements,” Vijayakumar saidENERGY STAR standards relate to requirements for energy efficiency, insulation, air sealing and lighting efficiency for both single and multi-family homes, while Indoor airPLUS turns its attention to the layering of low-emitting materials, balanced ventilation requirements, radon levels, pest management and combustion appliance use regulations on top of those standards. These standards are more critical than ever, as Agopian noted that air quality is more on consumer radars since the pandemic. “We breathe in 31 pounds of air a day. Because of the pandemic, the quality of that air is concerning. Builders and developers are motivated to build healthier homes, because they can get more dollars per square foot.”What makes multi-family builds tricky, though, is the variety of air. “It's not just air from the outside. It's from neighbors and shared spaces,” Vijayakumar explained. One of the best ways to improve indoor air quality in multi-family homes is through energy recovery ventilation. For optimal quality, ERVs replace stale air and replenish it with fresh outside air, and they do it all while lowering energy costs and boosting energy efficiency.

What we discussed: The fabric of society is a fine mesh of cultures. When we change world views – from western to Indian to Maori – we find different interpretations of how each culture considers their environment. Why it matters: A sustainable future requires us to make new connections and partnerships with unlikely stakeholders. Yet each of these stakeholder groups are going to have their own expectations, assumptions and modus operandi. Shruthi is really teaching us how to be aware of the different groups we identify with, and how we can translate across those groups to achieve a sustainable future. What it means for you: This episode highlights the importance of understanding a person's cultural roots and heritage as a lens of how they view sustainability. We can apply the same principles of listening, curiosity, and inviting others to join our journey, to our professional lives and our personal lives. M., Espeseth, T., Tamnes, C. K. Abstract: Human cognitive development is manifold, with different functions developing at different speeds at different ages. Attention is an important domain of this cognitive development, and involves distinct developmental trajectories in separate functions, including conflict processing, selection of sensory input and alertness. In children, several studies using the Attention Network Test (ANT) have investigated the development of three attentional networks that carry out the functions of executive control, orienting and alerting. There is, however, a lack of studies on the development of these attentional components across adolescence, limiting our understanding of their protracted development. To fill this knowledge gap, we performed a mixed cross-sectional and longitudinal study using mixed methods to examine the development of the attentional components and their intraindividual variability from late childhood to young adulthood (n = 287, n observations = 408, age range = 8.5-26.7 years, mean follow up interval = 4.4 years). The results indicated that executive control stabilized during late adolescence, while orienting and alerting continued to develop into young adulthood. In addition, a continuous development into young adulthood was observed for the intraindividual variability measures of orienting and alerting. In a subsample with available magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data (n =169, n observations = 281), higher alerting scores were associated with thicker cortices within a right prefrontal cortical region and greater age-related cortical thinning in left rolandic operculum, while higher orienting scores were associated with greater age-related cortical thinning in frontal and parietal regions. Finally, increased consistency of orienting performance was associated with thinner cortex in prefrontal regions and reduced age-related thinning in frontal regions.
