Have you ever thought about how your personal brand might affect sales? We talk about so much more on this episode, but our guest's insight on how our personal brand is a reflection on everything is super interesting! "...so when you think you work for a company, you're really working in the best interest of them. And, unfortunately, some organizations just don't put their people at the center. And so we as individuals have a responsibility to ourselves, I believe, to put ourselves at the center of what we do. And so your brand is doing that -- in every way..." Truly, this episode gets DEEP in a way you might not expect, given the title of the show. We would LOVE to hear what you think! If you comment on our Twitter, we would love, love, love that! A defining component of Purple Patch Fitness is our highly distinct methodology and approach that frames a way of thinking and performance in both sport and life. Most think about Purple Patch as building a strong platform of health, and assisting time-starved athletes to thrive within limited training hours, and a strong focus on supporting habits, such as nutrition, strength, and sleep. The good news? So many have bought into this approach via our coaching and education resources, but there are still many who struggle to apply the acquired knowledge across several area including: Post-Workout Fueling - many recognize that proper fueling is part of the performance puzzle, but it's one of the things people fall down on consistently. Going Easy on the Easy Days - Inherently, we know this is a key to progression, but that logic is often overridden by fear and motivation for great success Strength Training - Again, while many appreciate the value of strength training to overall performance, it is often the first pillar to drop in lieu of chasing more hours. We inherently know what to do, but we still don't do it. The same holds true for what we label, Postseason Training. Matt shares the story of one of his athletes, John, who inherently ends his season frustrated at his performance plateaus. He finishes in the Fall and turns his back on any structured training for months, only to come back at the start of the year with a sense of urgency to "catch up" - leading to niggles, burnout, overtraining, and, subsequently, his frustration. He knows that he should maintain some structure and strategic consistency, but still doesn't do it. Is this you? Are you either all-in or all-out? Today, Matt outlines groundwork on how to be proactive in your performance journey. Yes, you can dial back your load, but still maintain consistency, enjoy your training more, reduce your risk for injuries, and continue to improve your performance, all while being smart and proactive. Applying this common-sense knowledge will allow so much more success because, as Maya Angelou said, "When you know better, you do better." 3:23-7:07 Who the Bleeding ‘Eck Are You? This time last year I was in a completely different head space. Trying to "get my life together" so my weeks were scattered with good habits and good intentioned but swamped with bad and destructive choices/habits. I was so in my head - I could not get out of my negative thoughts and feelings for the life of me. Trish has taught me it's not about the actions that go into "getting my life together" but the thought work behind the actions. One of my favorite lines taken from the show: "Your mind is your most valuable real estate and you decide what you build on it." I didn't realize I actually had control of what comes in and what goes out until I started listening to Trish. When I actually started training my brain I realized she was right: it is ALL in your head, and thank God for that because I have the power! I am not a victim! God has without a doubt used her in the process of my mental healing (Also we are enneagram wing sisters, I'm a 4w4 and she's a 3w4 so that's cool). Thank you so much, Trish! HOW TO GET OUT OF THE "CARING WHAT PEOPLE THINK" THOUGHT LOOP Techniques:Specify the exact thought loop and the exit ramp.Give people permission to think differently than you do.Assume the best. You can pick any thought, take power back.Go for a net positive result, instead of net negative.Since we don't know what people are thinking, we can choose to think whatever we want to think. Those people who have RBF's? I used to be convinced they hated me. Now I like to assume they are just waiting for me to be friendly to them. I assume they admire my happiness, not that they're bothered by it, and even if they're bothered by it, I am okay with them not being okay with me.Some Thought Replacement Suggestions When In the...

They want to help you gain financial confidence and clarity to control your destiny. This week Lauryn and Chloé invite fellow CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and author, Nannette Kamien, to the podcast to talk about planning for college and repaying student loans. Nannette is a financial planner at Cultivating Wealth. She previously owned her own firm and wrote the book Crazy College Money. She enjoys educating families about how to make smart financial decisions to pay for college. In addition to working with clients through her financial planning firm, Worth Winning, Lauryn is a Certified Student Loan Professional (CSLP) working with Student Loan Planner to help student loan borrowers navigate their repayment options. In this episode, Chloé interviews Lauryn and Nannette to find out what parents and students need to know about planning for college and repaying student loans. There are a lot of misconceptions out there around student loans and burying your head in the sand isn't going to help. In part this episode Lauryn, Chloé, and Nannette talk about: Balancing saving for your children's education while paying off your own student loans and saving for retirement Types of accounts to use for college savings When to start having conversations about paying for college with your kids and what you should share with them The importance of educating yourself on the student loan process and financing options before your child is enrolled in college (Spoiler alert: It's not the same as when you were in college.) Common mistakes made in college planning How the financial aid system is broken and why you can't bury your head in the sand instead of planning for it The types of student loans available and the pros and cons of the different options Student loan forgiveness How income driven repayment plans work and what you need to know about the options including planning on paying taxes on the amount that's forgiven Consolidating vs refinancing your student loans What you should consider if you want to go to grad school Parent+ loans RESOURCES: Student Loan Planner website: https://www.studentloanplanner.com/ Schedule your free introductory phone call with Nannette: https://cultivatingwealth.com/contact/ Worth Listening Podcast Episode #31: Don't Be Overcome by Your Student Loan Debt with Travis Hornsby Worth Listening Podcast Episode # 58: College, Finances & Student Loans Worth Listening Podcast Episode # 115: Renting vs Homeownership If you want to further connect with Lauryn Williams: Instagram: @worthwinning Twitter: @worth_winning Facebook: @worthwinningfp LinkedIn: @lauryn-williams If you want to further connect with Chloé Moore: Instagram: @financialstaples Twitter: @finstaples Facebook: @finstaples LinkedIn: @chloemoore Shared quote: “It's not burn baby burn, but learn, baby, learn, so that you can earn, baby, earn.” -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This week Nat & Stu drag Dan from the Smart Enough to Know Better podcast down to their level as they have a romp about The Void in the penultimate episode of Loki. The team all agree it was a belter of an episode in terms of character, comedy and some fricking hilarious easter eggs (Thanos Copter!) Natalie comes up with what she thinks is a very clever prediction for whom the Big Bad might actually be; and tune in til the end to hear Dan and Stu absolutely ROAST Nat over her poor form in consuming classic cinema. You'll need hot sauce, it's so smokin'.
“Smart Enough To Know Better is a podcast of science, comedy and ignorance.”It's a unique skill to be able to apply humour to science – and get it to work.Greg Wah and Dan Beeston have been doing this for over 10 years with Smart Enough To Know Better, creating an extremely listenable podcast that tackles big subjects with an accessible style. There is a lot of banter, plenty of tangents that they often head down and a very loyal and engaged audience. What makes Smart Enough To Know Better so good is that it's not afraid to dissect a subject and speak truth to power – but do so in a way that is, generally, positive and constructive. And as the pair creep closer to their 200th show, what better time to understand more about the show and the issues and topics that get them going. For our latest episode of MetaPod, we speak to the Australia-based pair about how they pick their subjects each week and how they've nurtured their audience over a decade. We tackle some big issues, such as the billionaire space race and coronavirus, as well as find out how much science they actually remember.

And how giggly can Stu and Greg get about those surprise guests at the very end?! All this and more as we head into the final two eps of the series. Enjoy!

Shalini helps her clients ensure that their loved ones stay out of court and out of conflict in the event of their passing or incapacity. Lauryn and Chloé find that a lot of their clients don't feel that they need estate planning because they're too young, aren't married, don't have kids, or aren't rich. But Shalini shares why estate planning is for EVERYONE. In this episode Lauryn, Chloé, and Shalini talk about: What estate planning is Why EVERYONE needs estate planning (Even if you're young. Even if you're single. Even if you don't have kids. Even if you're not a millionaire.) The estate planning documents you need to have in place Why you need to make some important decisions now instead of waiting The importance of having the right people in place to handle your finances if something happens to you Things to think about when choosing who to handle your medical or financial affairs What you need to know if you're in a long-term relationship and living together but not “married” What you need to know about prenuptial agreements (Spoiler Alert - It's not just for rich people.) It's a villainous buddy adventure bottle episode this week, and Nat & Stu are joined by Greg from the Smart Enough to Know Better podcast to break it down. Loki has found himself - and herself, or maybe not? - on the doomed planet Lamentis-1. In a fit of irony nobody saw coming, Loki and Sylvie have 12 hours to recharge a TemPad and establish a shaky truce so they get off the rock before it's obliterated. There's lots of end of the world tropes, magic from Loki, small revelations from Sylvie and a cool one-take fight scene. Enjoy!

What a ride this episode is, as well as Brian's life. Brian is a dear friend of mine and has always been. Or at least as long as we can remember anyway. He and his late wife were always great hosts and I have fond memories of scooting around San Francisco with them and man could Diane drive a stick in that hilly city! I've yet to meet his husband, but it is something to look forward to, with cheese, of course. Brian is one of the most wise people I know. Brian Knirk had a career running restaurants in the San Francisco Bay area in the 1990's. The birth of his children changed his priorities and searching for work/life balance began teaching. Brian is department chair for Culinary Arts & Hospitality Management at American River College in Sacramento. In 2013, after the unexpected death of his wife and with two kids in high school, Brian began deep self-reflection that led to living authentically. Brian believes that if you listen and allow it, the universe will guide you. The result has been a joyful journey. And he's another Doctor, PhD, but doesn't talk about that much. This is the “Know Better, Do Better” series born from the countless conversations two CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals, Lauryn Williams and Chloé Moore, have about the trendy narratives and clickbaity articles that make it hard for them to help their clients. They want to help you gain financial confidence and clarity to control your destiny. In this episode of the series, Lauryn and Chloé begin a three-part series on investing. It’s easy to think that you need to start investing without really understanding what it is, how it will help you, or the best strategies to make your money work for you. But when it comes to investing your money, you don’t want to just follow what’s trendy at the moment. It’s important to understand investing, what your goals are and how to make it work for you. In part one of this series, Lauryn and Chloé help you understand the basics of investing. They talk about: Why investing is important How investing makes your money work for you Why you need to cover your financial basics first The Importance of understanding the risks Tips for diversifying your investments Public investments vs private investments Alternative investments - what they are and what you should know about them Why you need to understand your investments and not just follow the trends If you want to further connect with Lauryn Williams: Instagram: @worthwinning Twitter: @worth_winning Facebook: @worthwinningfp LinkedIn: @lauryn-williams If you want to further connect with Chloé Moore: Instagram: @financialstaples Twitter: @finstaples Facebook: @finstaples LinkedIn: @chloemoore Shared quote: "Don't look for the needle in the haystack. They want to help you gain financial confidence and clarity to control your destiny. In this episode of the series, Lauryn and Chloé talk about the first generation wealth builders tax, sometimes referred to as the “black tax”. When you’re the first person to achieve financial stability and build wealth within your circle of family and friends, there’s a good chance there are people in your life that will want financial help from you. Statistics show the racial wealth gap already makes it harder for POC to achieve financial success which means supporting friends and family only adds to the problem. This is where the term “black tax” comes from. However, the lessons shared by Lauryn and Chloe can help any first-generation wealth builder. In this episode, Lauryn and Chloé talk about: The importance of establishing priorities to help you get on track before helping everyone else Why you need both short term and long term financial goals A few strategies you can use to create priorities and systems for who you decide to help and how much you’re able to help them with (and the importance of having these in place for yourself before you need to use them) How to better understand your cash flow Why you need to look back to see how you’ve helped people in the past (Hint Hint - Those little amounts can really add up) Things you can do to help friends and family learn to help themselves Why you need to avoid making “loans” to family and friends How to prepare for the future financial obligations of caring for aging parents Why you need to prioritize yourself first in order to have a greater impact long-term If you want to further connect with Lauryn Williams at Worth Winning, follow us on social media: Instagram: @worthwinning Twitter: @worth_winning Facebook: @worthwinningfp LinkedIn: @lauryn-williams If you want to further connect with Chloé Moore: Instagram: @financialstaples Twitter: @finstaples Facebook: @finstaples LinkedIn: @chloemoore Shared quote: “If you want to have enough to give others, you will need to take care of yourself first.
