I wish I could write more, but I have to go Taco Bell. Just know this episode is filled with music, movies, political infighting and a bunch of random audio clips like every other episode. Travis is a willing and fair participant as Luke gives it to him with both barrels. We love you all! We close this session with a selection from Travis called Life Of Crime by The Laughing Hyenas. Portland, Oregon's Bothers have just announced the release of their sophomore LP “II” on San Antonio/PDX label Dirt Cult Records. The band's self-titled debut album was a concise and raging lesson in relentless punk 'n' roll, with tips of the hat to bands like Motörhead, and Hot Snakes. ‘II' marks a new era for the band. Heavier and more expansive, the album ventures into the realm of metalic hardcore with fiercesome riffing and dynamic tempo changes. The melodic intensity of their first release remains, resulting in an album that calls to mind influences like Tragedy, Laughing Hyenas, Jesus lizard, Neurosis and Born Against.  The band's one sheet succinctly captures the feel of the album in a way only the composers' could capture. “When you decide it's finally time to strip naked, scarf a fistful of peyote buttons, and drive an '82 Cadillac Cutlass deep into the desert in the middle of a lightning storm, BOTHERS second LP should probably be blaring on your tape deck while you daydream about communing with the coyotes or some shit. Two tracks in, you can almost smell the ozone as the horizon explodes. Inherently primal, their second offering is nothing short of bespoke savagery - deeper, uglier, and stranger than their first outing. Imagine HUSKER DU finally found something to be genuinely angry about, or if you ran the first couple TELEVISION records through a boardwalk funhouse meat grinder. If you've never punched yourself in the throat hard enough to make the room spin like your future swirling down the shitter, this record will make you realize it's time”. You can hear part one here. Alright, this is where shit gets real. Like really real. This is when our guest and the concept of our podcast collide to create a thing of singular beauty. There is a meeting of minds. There are moments where agreement is reached, and unsung music appreciated. On part 2 of our interview with Steve Von Till, he goes into detail about Neurosis, Neurot Recordings, some of the records he really digs and, as true to the ethos of the show, picks an album he thinks is unsung. That album is Life of Crime by Laughing Hyenas, and we get into the weeds about the bands, the sound, the scene around them and why they’re truly unsung. Which then puts us in the position that we always put ourselves in. The position in which we ask you, the listener, to vote on whether you think this album unsung. When you listen, you’ll know what we think. But the power in your hands. So use it wisely.

Funk music might be most commonly associated with 1970s bands like Funkadelic, Parliament, Sly & The Family Stone, the Ohio Players, and other more, but the 1990s saw their fair share of funk enthusiasts slip into the alternative mainstream. The Red Hot Chili Peppers had become an MTV staple, Primus and Faith No More explored the outer edges, while bands like the Beastie Boys, Living Colour, Infectious Grooves and more put their own spin on the sound. In Ann Arbor, Michigan, the remnants of 80s hardcore bands the Necros, Laughing Hyenas, and others formed Big Chief, whose 1991 skewed towards the alternative metal sound. That would not be the case on their 1993 follow-up, Mack Avenue Skullgame. Dubbed an "Original Soundtrack" for a movie that does not exist, the album is a faithful throwback to the 70s blaxploitation sounds of soundtracks like Shaft, Superfly, Cleopatra Jones and others. The band lays down authentic if updated funk sounds and adds the necessary vocals of Thornetta Davis to add melodic punch. But like all soundtracks, can the concept work without the imagery to go with it?   Songs In This Episode: Intro - My Name Is Pimp (Mack's Theme) 19:08 - One Born Every Minute (Doc's Theme) 24:18 - If I Had A Nickle For Every Dime 27:32 - No Free Love On The Street 32:55 - Cop Kisser (Mack F*cks Up The Scene At The Freezer) Outro - Cut To The Chase   Support the podcast, join the DMO UNION at Patreon. Songs From The Farside

Transmission 7 is loud one so hold on to your balls. We take a look at Tar, the noisy band from Chicago that played metal guitars (like made of metal, not like shiny black and pointy) and made a huge racket through some pretty little amps. We reminisce about Sweden's In Solitude, whose third and final LP "Sister" helped usher in the so-called New Wave Of Traditional Heavy Metal. We dig into the first Die Kreuzen LP, a rip-roaring and innovative take on American hardcore circa 1984. And we close things up with an appreciation for the Laughing Hyenas' 1990 masterpiece "Life of Crime". Albums explored are: Tar "Solution 8" 7" (1991) Tar "Clincher" 12" (1993) Tar "Toast" LP (1993) Tar "Over and Out LP (1995) In Solitude "Sister" LP (2013) Die Kreuzen "Die Kreuzen" LP (1984) Laughing Hyenas "Life of Crime" LP (1990) As always you can subscribe via Podomatic, Apple Podcasts, Google Play and Spotify. I'm few weeks late this time, but hopefully this selection of jams will be worth the wait! September brings the great news that Memphis weirdo blues rockers the Grifters have reissued their classic 1994 LP, Crappin' You Negative. This hot mess of ugly distortion, bent guitar duels, and loose-limbed grooves might be a bit dated, but it still bleeds passion and grit through the speakers like it did back then. I was lucky enough to see them on a reunion tour last year, and the addition of age, wisdom, and increased precision made them even more powerful. Here's tp the hope that they make more music!Episode #55 of Random Old Records starts off with the Grifters aptly enough, then goes all over the map. You'll hear an absolute jangle-pop earworm from Paperhead bassist Peter Stringer-Hye, a classic Aussie punk jam from Kim Salmon and The Scientists, a brand-new song from Rangers, and a gross, Flipper-lovin' punk plod from Cleveland's Rubber Mate.
