Remember, you can SUBSCRIBE on iTunes or Stitcher and if you LOVE the episode, give us a 5 star rating and write us a merry-filled review! During the episode, we start with Merrymaker News. It's a great transition from #MerryBiz to #GetMerry as we take you through everything we're working on. We also take you through all the lessons we've picked up on during the week. We talk happiness, mindset shifts and life in general. Pretty sure we even get on the whole what is the meaning of life? topic (oh oh, haha). Yes, we ramble, yes we laugh and yes it's a whole lotta MERRY! So if you're looking for a dose of something magical each week, #GetMerry is the show for you! It's the perfect show to listen to if you want to start adding more positivity into your life. We also end each episode with a Merrymaker Mantra. And this week's is: Follow your freaking bliss. You've heard us bang on about this before. Yah?! It's an adapted mantra by the philosopher, Joseph Campbell. And it's all kinds of magical epic. "Follow your bliss and doors will open where there were once only walls." Holy shit that quote changed our lives forever and ever. We first heard it when we watched the documentary, Finding Joe. Seriously, that is compulsory watching for anyone reading this. You will love it. But first, finish this and listen to the podcast! When we started Merrymakers, there was no strategy, no business in mind, no nothing really. We just had this something telling us to start writing and creating recipes. So we did! We were having so much fun doing it, so we did more of it. And we learned about blogging. And social media. And newsletters. Oh my! Then we watched Finding Joe. And then we realised that Merrymakers... well, that was our bliss. And this whole Follow Your Bliss concept was pretty freaking epic. And apparently revolutionary to us (even though it was all over the internet!) and so we started sharing this message out to our Instagram followers. We'd share it once a day, almost. Follow your bliss. Do what you love! Follow the fun! All the inspirational quotes you can think of. And do not scoff... we know you love them too! At this time we were still working in our full-time soul-sucking government desk jobs, seriously we need a shorter name to describe it. But the message was loud and clear. Merrymakers was our bliss and if we followed it, if we kept going, opportunities would flow right on in. It turned into the perfect kick up the butt too. We'd been sharing the quotes, inspiring others to do what they love, but here we were still working those soul-sucking jobs and not REALLY following our bliss. Not really living our truth. We were good at speaking the speak but... doing the do? We weren't there yet. So the quitting of our jobs came about just 1 and a half years into our Merrymaker journey with no plan, no strategy, no money and a fat mortgage and USA trip booked in! What were we thinking? We weren't! But Joseph Campbell said that if we followed it... doors would open. (Yes, we're a bit cray cray). Oh and that they did! The day we quit our jobs, a sponsorship... The Merrymaker Sisters started their journey in February 2013 after they developed an unhealthy obsession with fad diet, quick fixes and negative body image. In a bid to create a healthy, happy and more magic filled world, they discovered that real food was the answer and set about creating an online business to help people across the globe live better lives by providing them with meal plans, recipes and support. Within a few short years the girls have skyrocketed to success and as well as their blog and other online projects they have self-published a book, started a podcast, #MerryBiz and have just recently scored a publishing deal with their dream publisher Hay House. In this episode we talk about: Highlights of Emma and Carla Papas on Gold Coast event The difference of having a positive mindset towards your dreams and goals The fear of failure hindering your success How to recognize and overcome fear? In today's epic episode we welcome Melissa Ambrosini back into the studio! If you missed her first episode on #MerryBiz, head back to episode 7! But this one has some serious EPIC moments that will leave you feeling extra inspired and generally amazing. If you want to be the best version of yourself you've got to say "yes" to you. This sometimes means saying "no thank you" to others. Some questions we asked... What's happening in your world? How's work going? What's new? Can we even call it work? What do you call it? How do you choose what you do next in your business? What about if you feel like you're 'full' but you fall in love with someone who isn't 'full'? How often do you meditate? "You can't control what's going to happen in the world. But you can control the way you react." Some AHA! Moments in this episode... Following your gut is always a feeling, you can't really logically explain it, where fear is more dialogue in your head. We can choose in every moment to react how we want to react. Why you need to learn to be fully present. "Don't wear multitasking as a badge of honor... just be present." See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Why learning to say "no" is so powerful. How to understand your business desire and link it to your personal desires. Why you need to listen to those gut feelings, do not ignore them. Can you pinpoint the things that you think make up a successful crowdfunding campaign? Is there anyone that you look to you for inspiration every day? What does it take to create an epic email list? Did you know this is the first time we've actually said the word f#ck on #MerryBiz? Woha :P hehe but with good reason! This was one our all time best/fave interviews we've done to date on #MerryBiz (actually, Carla said it was her actual favourite). Mark Manson does things a little differently when it comes to self-help. He makes you think harder. Question things. And in all honestly, he helps you just live a much simpler, better life, through the art of subtly not giving f#cks about certain things. Don't take it the wrong way. It's not about giving no f#cks. It's about choosing what f#cks to give. We go into all sorts of things during this interview, one of the best moments was when Mark said... "Wanting more positive experience is itself a negative experience, embracing negative experience is itself a positive experience." See! Made you think! And we bet it made you go AHA! Maybe you had to read it 5 times like us which is totally a-ok. It's so true it hurts. If there is one interview you listen to on #MerryBiz (oh come on... you know you wanna listen to them all!) make it this one. It will change your thoughts... and you know what they say when you change your thoughts... right? Right? We're so super pumped to welcome Mark Manson to the #MerryBiz podcast! YEW! Take a listen! Some questions we asked... Tell us about The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F#ck? How did you develop this way of thinking? What was the initial reaction to your style/thoughts when you started sharing it with the world? Tell us about the feedback loop from hell? What do you say to people who ask you "How do I find my passion?" How do you deal with failure? "This too shall pass" Some AHA! Moments in this episode... Why we need to become comfortable with the suckage that happens in life. Why feeling bad isn't a bad thing and how to remove the label and get on with life. Your ability to achieve success is directly proportional to how much failure you're willing to deal with (epic, right?). Wanting more positive experience is itself a negative experience, embracing negative experience is itself a positive experience. There's always something to gain from any experience. "What we end up giving a f#ck about determines our motivation and goals." See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
On episode 58 we welcome our amazing friend Cate Richards! The microphone on this episode wasn't good on our end (sorry!) but Cate's is fine, so listen to her and learn! We're so super excited for you to listen! We had the pleasure of meeting her and hanging out in the Philippines earlier this year. We really loved her bio when she sent it us, she wrote: since she moved to the beach she never seems to get enough done because the beach is too tempting and her dogs never want to go back home to work. Uh we know the feeling! Beach = good. But seriously, today's guest is a branding expert and works from the inside out. She's the founder of True Entrepreneur, which is all about clarity, strategy and branding. Welcome to MerryBiz our very good friend Cate Richards. Take a listen! "Your brand is all about being clear and positioning but it's also about connecting." Some questions we ask... What are the top tips for creating your story? What are your thoughts on perfectionism? How can you start to build a brand? Should we follow a strategy? Or be organic? "The thing that really connects your audience to you... is your story." Some AHA! Moments in this episode... Why you need to drop your perfectionism. The importance of brand clarity and consistency. Why you need magic words and how to use them. "I'm all about life/work balance." See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In the last year, she has taken the brand from strength to strength launching into one of the biggest pharmacies in the UK as well introducing a range of healthy bake mixes and snack bars. We're super excited to share how she did it with you! Welcome to #MerryBiz Julianne Ponan! Take a listen! "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." Some questions we ask... Take us back when you first took the Creative Nature business. What made you do that and how did you feel? Were there any challenges along the way? How has social media played a role in your business? Have you had any mentors involved in your business journey at all? How do you keep balance in running a business? Do you have a morning ritual, other than your spirulina shot? "Get up in the morning and don't hit that snooze button." Some AHA! Moments in this episodes... You need to believe in yourself no matter how young or old you are. Enjoy every moment, even the early days when you're doing EVERYTHING. Why you need to NOT hit that snooze button. Ever. How recreational activity with your team can create positive work culture. "When you feel like quitting, think about why you started." See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

What does your own meditation practice look like? Do you have any particular tools or things you do when a stressful moment occurs? The importance of becoming aware of your thoughts and how to refrain from them when needed. Why you need to focus on your breath. How to bring in visualization to live your most epic life. Super cool technique to deal with stress: S:top T:hink O:bserve P:roceed Being mindule leads to building resilience, optimism, focus and strength. "Anybody can be whoever they want." "I am rich, I am wealthy, I am abundant. I am open to receiving." Some AHA! Moments in this episode... Your mindset and health is everything. Why you (yourself) are the biggest block... and now you know, so let's break it down! How the things we say to ourselves can impact our entire life. Why you need to listen to your audience to find out what your business offer could be. The importance of taking in information on mindset every single day. "If you're not a little bit sh1t scared of your goals... then they're not big enough." See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

But seriously... it is full of golden advice all about copywriting! You'll love it! We're super excited to welcome Jon Bowes to #MerryBiz! Take a listen! "I am an authentic, trusting open man." Some questions we ask.... How did you get into copywriting? How did you fall into what you're doing right now? What would be your number 1 tip be to the people who say 'I can't sell'. Where do they start? How do we formulate a headline? Do you think staying authentic to yourself is more important than the sales copy? Tell us about your Iowaska experience! "Build your audience first... then ask them what they want." Some AHA! Moments in this episode... The importance of teaching. Why your story is #1. Why you should always put authenticity first, before any sales copy. How to build a buyer. The difference between selling online and face to face. Why your offer and how you word it is SO SO SO important. "Go ahead and tell your story." See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Thrilled to be joined today by Emma and Carla Pappas, of The Merrymaker Sisters. These two are super energetic, fun and refreshing and I know that hearing their story will absolutely inspire others to take action, make changes in their lives and do the things they're passionate about. When The Merrymaker Sisters created their online business, I learned that they never really thought about the perfect avatar that they were trying to attract. (Something we're often told to do as business owners). Instead, they just created the brand and business that they knew people would find value in, and learned and made changes along the way. Their inspiring and health conscious brand, attracts mostly women of all ages, and these women have realized that there's a different way of living that fits each individual. Emma and Carla have honed in on how to help each woman discover exactly what is right for them. Born DOERS, Emma and Carla know that the best way to make changes in your life is just to take action. Their best advice for new entrepreneurs: Get started now and put yourself out there. Just do the best you can do right now and make tweaks and improvement as you go. Equally important is to not get so tied up in what other people are posting – compare and despair gets you nowhere. Everyone's content (from Marie Forleo to Gary Vaynerchuck) had room for improvement when they were first starting out. “Compare to yourself, don't compare to others because that's paralyzing.” You may just end up hating what you're doing and sucking all the joy out of it. An integral lesson they learned along the way is the idea that “what you focus on grows.” At the time they worked horrible jobs with toxic people and constant negative thoughts swirling in their heads. Realizing that spending 8 hours per day in this situation was getting them nowhere, this gave them the courage to leave their jobs as soon as possible to devote more time to their brand. Making the business their priority, spending extra time on it and jumping into action led to incredible growth and success. Momentum is everything. It's obvious from this interview that Emma and Carla are full of energy and are super positive people. But, like all of us there can be times when they fall back into a negative space in moments of sadness, sensitivity or being overwhelmed. “It's okay that we do fall back, it's just how fast we come back to where want to be in our mindset that matters.” Yoga, meditation, walks outside or expressing gratitude are some of the ways that the sisters get out of this type of funk. The girls are big fans of practicing gratitude and say, “It's such a simple thing, but it's magical.” To grow their business from a simple idea to a strong brand, Emma and Carla have had to do many scary things; quitting their jobs, putting themselves out there, public speaking and writing their first cook book just to name a few. They know first-hand that as you do more, things become more normal to you and you don't realize how big and bold you're actually being. Speaking of putting yourself out there, One of the things I ask Emma about is her public relationship with fellow entrepreneur, Dan Norris. She shared that deciding to this was all part of putting forth her real, authentic self on social media. Some people put up a front and pretend to be somebody else on social media, but that's pretty hard to keep up. “Being you is so easy and way more fun.” Emma and Carla were so much fun to talk to and I'm thrilled that they've shared their brand and incredible relationship with the Bold Life Movement audience. SOME QUESTIONS I ASK: What did the evolution of their brand look like? How do the sisters bounce back when they're not feeling exceptionally positive or energetic? How do they decide what to share on social media? Is there such a thing as being too authentic? What were some of the big takeaways they've gotten from the guests on their podcast, MerryBiz? IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN: Why taking action trumps all. How the name of your brand might not be as important as some claim it is. How our thoughts attract and decide what we're going to do in the future. How training your brain through meditation and yoga can get you back to a positive mindset more quickly. We're REALLY excited about today's guest on episode 49! We had the pleasure of hearing him speak and hanging out together at Tropical Think Tank earlier this year. He left the practice of law, sold his house, and moved to Florida to pursue and share his passion for all things Disney. We know right... DISNEY! Clearly we were friends at first sight. We're SO excited to welcome the ever amazing Lou Mongello to #MerryBiz! Oh... and we SING in this episode :D Some questions we ask... When did your Disney passion begin? Tell us the story... What made you make the decision to drop everything and just do Disney full time? Was it scary? Who is your favorite Disney character? How have live events and taking your business offline helped you grow? What's something totally random that only you would know about Disney World? What mindset lessons have you learnt throughout your entrepreneurial journey? What is the most amazing thing that's happened along your journey? "We are living in an amazing time... where ANYTHING is possible." Some AHA!! Moments in this episode... How your 'what ifs?' can be your biggest motivator. Why creating a positive mindset is the best thing you can do as an entrepreneur. The importance of embracing the crazy entrepreneurial journey. Why you should focus on the audience already there... rather than chasing numbers. Why NOW is the best time to be an entrepreneur. "There's nothing that beats a handshake and a hug." In episode 48 on #MerryBiz we chat with our good friend in the blogosphere. 7 years ago while working within the magazine world she started a blog, Drop Dead Gorgeous Daily. She had no idea what she was doing but learnt many things on the way. Now Drop Dead Gorgeous Daily has 450,000+ readers a month and earns a multiple 6-figure revenue. But her true passion is teaching other bloggers to turn their blogs into profitable businesses. She's the founder of Secret Bloggers Business and she is just a super lovely person. We're so excited to welcome Kate Mckibbin to #MerryBiz! Take a listen! #MERRYBIZ SHOW NOTES Some questions we ask... If someone is going to start a blog, with the idea they want to turn it into a business one day. What are the initial MUST-DOs? What do you think about monetising blogs through sponsorship? Can you see a shift? How do you nurture your audience? Can you tell us about your challenges you've been through? What are you favourite online tools? Some moments of AHA! in this episode... Think about who you're writing too. Ask yourself: how you can help your audience? A profitable blog can take time. You have to be patient. "Keep it simple stupid." On today's episode we chat with speaker, coach and Co-founder of 180 Nutrition, an online health and wellness company bringing wellness to millions. With a mission is to reach and inspire as many people as possible, in 2009, along with his bestie, he founded 180 Nutrition. Dedicated to turning lives around, 180 Nutrition is a range of natural whole-food products that enable people to eliminate unhealthy food and feel healthier from the inside out. Gotta love THAT! Founded in Australia, they have just launched in the US with Dubai and the UK not far behind! We are SO excited to welcome Guy Lawrence to #MerryBiz! "Healthy guy, healthy mind, healthy body, healthy business." Some questions we ask..... How did 180 nutrition all begin? How do you get a food product on the shop shelves? What's your approach to health? What about the ice baths!? Did you have a business plan or go with the flow? "We've made some (dreadful) mistakes but we survive them, we've grown from them, we've moved on and we continue to grow, we don't stay stagnant." Some AHA! Moments in this episode... Why it's about the journey. So you've got to be happy within... now. The power to food and nutrition. Why you need to check in with your bigger vision. Why you need the mind, the body and the soul. "One of the biggest things I'm open to is curiosity... being open to everything." See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
We're SO excited about today's guest. We met him at TTT this year, got to hang out on boats and have a heck of a lot of fun. Kevin Basham is an entrepreneur who's co-founded a 7 figure recycling business from the ground up. He managed to do this with no money, little experience and making lots of mistakes along the way. Growing up he had little confidence; no idea that all this was possible. His vision is to help the next generation of up and coming entrepreneurs and business leaders, to share his story so others can see anything really is possible. It is our pleasure to welcome our very good friend Kevin Basham to #MerryBiz! Some questions we ask..... How did it all began for you? And how you ended up doing, what you're doing now? How did bullying impact you? What do you think is the biggest lesson you've learned throughout your entire journey? What's it like to find your passion? "When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you'll be successful." (via Eric Thomas) Some AHA!! Moments in this episodes.... Sometimes you need someone to give you the confidence to be who you are. You cannot chase things that you don't think are possible. Start believing. Entrepreneurship is for all but it's not for everybody. Everybody should have the opportunity go on an entrepreneurial journey. Some people just don't have the confidence, the 'right' background or they've gone through something dark. I want to help these people. "Motivation can come from that really really dark place." On today's episode we chat with founder of the Exceptional Life Blueprint and CEO of The Wellness Couch podcast network. In a former life he was a workaholic journalist, radio and television producer. His mission is to change people's lives across the globe whether that is to do with career, relationships, greater wealth or sense of self. We're PUMPED to welcome Marcus Pearce to #MerryBiz! Some questions we ask.... Why is hosting an event good for business in general? How important is social media at live events? Do you have a strategy? How would go collaborating with someone you don't have that relationship with? What creates a good vibe at a live event? "Live events create real life experiences and nothing beats that." Some AHA!! Moments in this episode.... No matter what industry you're in you can create a great event. Don't collaborate with someone if you don't have a win for them. Team culture and philosophy is so important when it comes to live events. "When it comes to collaboration you've got to deliver real value and ensure it's a win-win situation for all involved." Today on the #MerryBiz podcast we're like SUPER dooper excited to talk about optins. When we first started our business/blog we had no idea that we 'should be' collecting email addresses. You know we're not big on 'should be's' but collecting email addresses is definitely a YES when it comes to running any business. Yep, we don't think email newsletters are JUST for online business. If you have a brick and mortar business, sell products, services whatever it is you do (or plan to do)... collecting email addresses is a GOOD idea. From the get go. Like if you just started a blog... collect. Collect. Collect! Once you have email addresses you can send AMAZING email newsletters to these people. This allows your audience to get to know you better, you can build trust and you can provide your audience with SO much value that you'll blow them away and they'll love you forever and ever. #truestory Writing emails to your audience feels that little more special because they've said YES to you! They WANT to hear from you. Whenever we write our emails we keep this in mind, try to provide value our audience can't find anywhere else and pretty much just treat them like our best friends. We seriously love them. In episode 44 you'll learn: What is an optin? Our journey from no optin, to first optin, to second optin to NOW. The importance of collecting emails. What to do next when you've collected an email. How to start thinking about what your optin will be. Extra links we talk about: The main link you should check out is our BRAND NEW optin. CLICK HERE TO GET OUR NEW OPTIN If you sign up, you'll be able to go through the exact journey of a Merrymaker. Take note of what we do and come up with some of your own ideas! Of course, we'd LOVE to hear about them and help you brainstorm! Snapchat us! We are themmsisters and LOVE hearing from you! As always, questions, queries... let us know! Be sure to listen to the podcast episode and take it all in, get inspired and take some action yah! Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In episode 37 on #MerryBiz we talk you through the exact steps we take (and have taken) to get featured on the media! We've been featured across multiple newspapers, magazines and TV and today we want to inspire you to make it happen for your business and brand! We're talking traditional media like newspapers, magazines, TV and radio. These channels can still create a certain reputation for your brand, even though many websites reach more people these days. Which means that you can use these steps for everything and anything: media coverage, guest posts, interviews on podcasts, working with brands. We go into detail in today's episode but here are the overall steps you need to take to get featured in the media. ONE: make a list of media outlets you want to be featured on. Keep that list handy and always update it when you find new channels. It's a good idea to grab their contact details too if you can. TWO: engage with them online. We're talking commenting, liking, sharing their content as well as consuming their content (so you can better understand the kind of stuff they like and what they're looking for in a story). THREE: email them with an offer they CAN'T refuse. In today's episode we give you a SUPER tip which will make your pitch even more appealing. PLUS in episode 36 with Janet Murray she gives you an exact pitching strategy (yes... listen to that one!). FOUR: follow up and follow up again. But like, don't be annoying! FIVE: enjoy yoself! Don't make this a horrible task. Enjoy the process and celebrate the moments where you are featured! We like to re-share all of our features on the blog right HERE! Here's some other tips: Subscribe to SourceBottle (or something similar). Self-publish and have an opinion! If you have a blog already... BOOM! Good job. Because your content has the potential to get seen or picked up (like THIS post did for us) and media outlets may contact you for an interview or simply ask to republish your content. Gotta love that! So take a listen to today's episode and get inspired to take ACTION to get your face in the media! Yay! For today's guests it all started back in 2012 with one podcast episode, a brainstorm and then an idea was born. The idea of making a living from online business. In just a few short months, our guests were able to make thousands of extra dollars each month. One year later, they surpassed the five figure mark in online sales for a single month. When their August 2013 sales surpassed $36,000, they decided it was time to stop working for someone else and start living for their family. In July 2014 alone they made over $140,000. They believe that society has it wrong when it comes to work/life balance. Our guests say that life always comes before work. Sounds good, right? In episode 21 on #MerryBiz we talk ACTION. It's 55 minutes of epic inspiration. We KNOW it's what you need to take the leap to make your next step. We all have big ideas and big plans. The difference between the people who get to realise their dreams and the people who just keep planning is one little word: ACTION. The question we get asked so much about our business is: how do you do it all? How do you get so much done? And the answer is simple. We take action. We take small step after small step, action after action and it turns into epic results. Either that or we quickly realise our plan was crap and move onto something else where we take small step after small step... action after... ok ok, you get it. We take action. Easier said than done, right? We all get caught up on what tools we're supposed to use, or the design of the logo, or will that product even sell? Ooo we don't know, maybe we should do another survey. All this is great but nothing beats taking action to validate an idea. Nothing beats putting something out into the big wide world, seeing if people want it, then working out next steps. Sounds scary. But it ain't. Today on #MerryBiz we get together with Dan Norris, the KING of taking action and getting sh!t done. We get into some good stuff that has seriously given us the kick up the butt we need to take action to help Merrymakers grow even more! Here's what we cover: how to create processes and why we need them outsourcing: how to start and how to decide what to outsource virtual assistants: how much do they cost and what can they do? tools to help you automate your business the 7 day challenge that's going to give you the kick up the butt you're looking for! In episode 19 on #MerryBiz we take you through the exact steps we take to set and SMASH our business goals. We use real life examples and we set some goals LIVE on the show. Download your FREE guide: How to Set and Smash Your Goals and listen to this brand new episode right... NOW! "Everyone has the potential to do something amazing. All it takes is small step after small step. Action after action." We started setting goals for our business in mid 2015. Before that we were all about going with the flow and knowing that the universe had our backs. Which is 100% true! We honestly believe that when you're following your bliss (or passion or purpose), good stuff comes your way. But we have some pretty big visions for our business and as much as the universe is there, we also have to be there for ourselves. As Pablo Picasso said "Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success." Makes sense, right? As soon as we started to set goals, everything already flowing started to flow even better. Everything gained momentum. Instead of having our vision in our heads and hoping we remember what we need to do to achieve it... we write our BIG VISION on paper, on our white board and in trello. We know exactly what we need to tick off, by when, to get to where we wanna be. We're now on top of our revenue (holey moley!) and we have monthly goals for social media and website growth (this shows us that all that dicking around on Instagram is worth it... or not!). So yes, it's official like a referee's whistle, goals rock our merry socks. Goals have brought even more excitement to our business journey. They've brought more money to our business. They've allowed us to spread our merry message to more people all over the world. They've taken away the stress and unknown of running a business. Whether you've just started a business, you've had your biz for a while, or even if it's just a distant dream. NOW is the time to get goal setting and goal smashing. We are proof in your chia pudding that it will help you build your business in epic ways. Be sure to download your FREE goals guide HERE! Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla p.s you've got this! In episode 15 on #MerryBiz we share exactly what we do to get MORE shit done in less time. Cheers to productivity! Take a listen... and for preparation for next episode... be sure to download your goal setting guide HERE! This time last year we would've said that we were the busiest we've ever been. Yep, 12 hour days filled with multi-tasking and running around like headless merrymakers. We had little structure and we worked on a 'do what we feel like' basis. Sounds appealing but... This kind of mindset and work ethic lead to lots of to-dos either forgotten or being done at the very last minute. Hello unnecessary stress! Errr yuck. And stress is not good for us. Running a business or blog or working a high paced job does NOT have to be this way. It doesn't need to be stressful and doesn't have to cause burnout. You do not need to be the busiest person on the planet. Fast forward to now and we're ticking off a hell of a lot more goals MINUS the 12 hour days, minus the stress PLUS a whole bunch of fun. Say what? True story. Less working hours. MORE productivity. This year our key focus was focus. Ha! No, truly, we wanted to focus on focussing. We used to work like this: Oh! Let's work on Project A for a day... but Project B sounds fun, let's do that for an hour... oh shiny, pretty things, look at Project C! You know what? We should REALLY work on Project Z, that's the most important. Can you see how our multi-tasking 'skills' actually stopped our progress? 4 weeks would pass and we hadn't accomplished anything. We just had all of these quarter finished projects. According to WPCurve "Multi-tasking damages your brain and makes you dumber." Ahh. Yep, no more of that. Halfway through this year we turned our working style upside down on top of its head. NOW we get A LOT of shit done and we want you to get your shit done too. Ready? How to get MORE Shit Done. Shit = awesome stuff you do for your business or life that gets you closer to your goals. BATCH YOUR SHIT. Put similar tasks together and do them all at once, rather than jumping from one thing to the next. You'll get in a rhythm and save SO. MUCH. TIME. One example: we batch our blog posts. One day we'll write, another day we'll cook and photograph and another day we'll input everything and schedule it to go live! Boom. Another example is batch your errands. If you need to go to the post office, the bank, do the groceries... then batch your errands in one outing! Batching changed our lives and it can change yours too. The best thing is that you can batch EVERYTHING. We even batched Nashville once (but that wasn't very productive... or maybe it was). SCHEDULE YOUR SHIT. Batched, tick. Now you gotta schedule your batched tasks. Marie Forleo (one of our fave biz mentors) preaches "If it's not scheduled, it's not real." In other words it ain't gonna happen if it's not in your calendar! Every Sunday afternoon (in our calendar) we have the task 'ORGANISE WEEK'. Basically we both sit down, work out our tasks for the week, batch them together then add them to our calendar. Here's what our calendar looks like: Try and stick to your calendar BUT be open to change and flexibility. Don't beat yourself up if something takes you longer than first thought. We're also flexible in moving entire tasks around based on our inspiration that day. GET RID OF YOUR SHIT. Dan Norris told us that "Deciding to work on something new when your project isn't working is not the same as giving up. It's just common sense." Get rid of the shit that isn't working so you can make room for the shit that will. Do a stocktake on all your tasks. Take note of the things you enjoy, the things you hate, the things that are necessary and unnecessary to run your business/blog. It's fun to do this with post it notes or a giant white board. When we did this we realised that we were spending WAAAAAY too much time trawling through Instagram and Facebook (like 3 hours a day), and with what end goal in mind? Um... nothing. Once you've got your post its/white board done it will be easy to delete the shit!... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
