Marcus has spent the past decade interviewing and researching more than 200 of the world's centenarians, graceful agers, health professionals and icons of humanity.   He is the author of the best-selling book Your Exceptional Life and, each year, takes small groups to the European Blue Zones of Sardinia and the Greek Island of Ikaria to immerse people in a slow but very intentional lifestyle away from the bustling, fast-paced urban life.   Key Topics Longevity is in Belief: People often think that the key to a long youthful life is to eat healthy and be active. Creating a healthy belief in ageing impacts how you live. Live with a Compelling Intention: People who often aged and lived long found that they always find a compelling reason to get out of bed each day to be socially, physically, and mentally active. This week Nicola and Di chat with longevity coach, author of Your Exceptional Life and podcaster, Marcus Pearce. This is such a fun and lively conversation full of incredible tips for how you can live an exceptional life. Marcus is a journalist, who has been studying longevity and blue zones for years - in fact, his podcast 100 Not Out has been going for more than a decade and has over a million downloads! Marcus is also a husband to his wonderful wife Sarah, and they have 4 kids who they're bringing up in beautiful Mullumbimby, NSW. In this conversation we hear about how Marcus transformed his health in his twenties when he met his now-wife Sarah and went from a Red Bull-guzzling, meat-eating smoker to a ginger-tea sipping teetotalling vegan, to somewhere back in the middle. Marcus has been lucky enough to interview so many centenarians in his career and he shares all the secrets of longevity and aging gracefully in this chat. You'll be happy to hear that there's so many simple things that you can do that have a remarkably positive impact on your health.  Marcus also shares all about his trips to the Greek island of Ikaria, which has been identified as one of the world's blue zones, and is known as “the island where people forget to die”. Marcus takes groups of people there to experience the way of life in Ikaria and learn first-hand from the people who are living long, healthy and happy lives.  It was so inspiring to talk to Marcus about all his research and ideas for how you can make the rest of your life the best of your life. We hope you feel as uplifted as we did when we had him at the back fence. Mason, and long time SuperFeast friends, Dan Sipple and Marcus Pearce join forces today for an insightful conversation around diet, lifestyle and longevity in the world's Blue Zones, and how the quality of life experienced by the individuals living in these areas is cultivated through joy, community, resilience and pace. The tread that weaves itself so gracefully throughout this conversation is one of unbridled self expression, of the value in allowing ourselves the freedom to include and relish in the aspects of our lived experience that we most enjoy, those feel like a balm not only to our bodies and hearts, but our souls as well. We're given insight on these musings as Marcus shares from his experiences spending time with the people of Ikaria, an island located on the coast of Greece in the Eastern Aegean Sea. Here the people live slow and in community, moments are savoured and enjoyed, alcohol is commonly consumed but rarely in excess, the same goes with meat. Things get done in the time it takes to do them and deadlines are not really a thing. The pace and the variants considered essential for life are vastly different to those that we are indoctrinated to esteem through the Westernised systems that the majority of us are engaged in, with motivation for "success" often derived from pursuits laced in capitalism. Listening to Marcus, Dan, and Mason discuss research on the factors that contribute to wellbeing and longevity in the Blue Zones worldwide, we can identify that it is not the frantic striving for shinier, more, better, higher, younger, that enables a human to flourish, it is in fact the very essence of the dutiful notion of chop wood, carry water, and not duty as in oppression, more so an agreement with what is, carried forward allowing space to enjoy the simple yet enriching facets of life that can only be accessed in the present with presence. We're introduced to the fact that when measuring the two separately, social connection has a more potent positive influence on health than diet, and those that have the most abundant sense of health are embracing both in equal measure. In the field of wellness individual's are so often told (and sold) that health is something that can only be accessed on the other side of "clean" living, and that longevity is derived from the perfect morning routine, nutrient intake, exercise and supplement regime. However in reality often the people that live the longest (and happiest) lives are those that are living in joyful communion with the things that they enjoy, vices included. We've all seen or heard the stories of the 100+ year old woman or man who attributes their longevity to their daily cigarette, coffee or can of coca cola. Centenarians are not exclusively green juice drinking yogini's or those who engage in a multifaceted wellness routine, Many are those that live simply, at natures pace, in community with purpose and without too much stress. Those who are culturally rich. How your life looks is not nearly as important as how your life feels, for you, regardless of the thoughts/opinions of an external audience. It is not always accessible for those living in the psyche of the Western grid to live like the inhabitants of the Blue Zones, however what is accessible is the knowledge of a different way, and the inspiration to include more of what and who you love in your days, and that that is often more powerful than any perfected way of living.   Mason, Dan & Marcus discuss: - The Blue Zones diet controversy. - Adapting Blue Zone lifestyles to a modern setting.  - Traditional lifestyle and its influence on health.  - Social life over diet for longevity. - Authenticity and success, what it is and how you measure it. - The power of adopting an individualised approach to health.    Resource guide Guest Links Dan Website Dan Facebook Dan Instagram Marcus WebsiteMarcus Longevity Podcast Marcus Facebook Marcus Instagram Marcus Youtube Marcus Linkedin Marcus X Mentioned In This Episode Dan BuettnerGraham HancockWeston PriceThe China Study Book Dan Sipple's Netflix Blue Zone Documentary Instagram Post Related Podcasts Moving Towards Destiny with Harmony with Marcus Pearce (EP#181) Connect With Us: SuperFeast InstagramSuperFeast FacebookSuperFeast TikTok SuperFeast Online Education

Marcus has an interesting story of living the smoking-drinking-partying life while being a TV sports commentator, then turning to strict veganism and no alcohol in his search for health, longevity and quality of life. He soon realised that there was a lot more to health than just having a super strict diet, and for the past 15 years he's researched the fascinating subject of what makes for a healthy, happy life. Marcus talks about; + Why family really shouldn't come first if you want to be truly happy and why we need to be somewhat selfish to be happier and healthier (and equally why family is important) + How some of the happiest people in the world lost all their family and why this allowed them to live a more fulfilled life + Why diet has far less to do with longevity + How one of the most important things we can consider is how adaptive we are and recognise self evolution is essential + How the family unit is different for everybody and finding what works for you is far more important that what works for others + Why we don't need to live by other peoples rules + Why the 3 ingredients for happiness and a long life are purpose, social and movement. + The role stress plays in ageing And how it's never too late to start. In this episode Charlie chats to his good friend Marcus Pearce. Marcus was not necessarily destined for a life of health and wellness. However, meeting his wife Sarah, a stint at veganism, a fascination with longevity & quality of life and collating his research into his new book 'Your Exceptional Life' has put him squarely in that space. Marcus is an expert and advocate of such phrases as 'make the rest of your life the best of your life' and 'do what you love and love what you do'. Head over here to see show notes and links.

Very early on Damo exposed Marcus to different ways to view the body and the world, philosophies that are deeply entrenched into his life to this very day and will be for the rest of his life. Damo was a pioneer in the world of podcasting health information, starting 'The Wellness Guys' show over 8 years ago which led to him creating the podcast channel named 'The Wellness Couch' and then himself and a few other legends creating an incredible seminar called 'The Wellness Summit'. He also has a podcast called '100 Not Out' where he explores ideas around longevity with another super clever man named Marcus Pearce. Dr Damian Kristof is his official title as he is a qualified Chiropractor in conjunction to Naturopath and Nutritionist. He is involved with two podcasts on The Wellness Couch – one as host of Your Exceptional Life, and the second as co-host one of those podcasts, ‘100 Not Out’ . He also co-hosted Inside The Champion’s Mind alongside Laurence Tham for 80+ episodes.   Questions asked in the episode: We often hear we should discover our life’s purpose and pursue that. Do you agree with this and what if we have no idea? We live in a society where we often judge our success by our wealth and miss out on the very things we’ve discussed today. What’s your take on this? All this can feel overwhelming, especially if we feel trapped, lonely or stuck in a rut. What 3 tips would you give someone to start creating change? What is your Exceptional Life Blueprint? Shop: http://shop.180nutrition.com.au/ Guy Hey, everyone. This is Guy Lawrence, of course, and welcome to another episode of The Health Sessions, where we connect with leading global health and wellness experts to share the best and the latest science and thinking, empowering all of us to turn our health and lives around. It’s been just a pleasure to get Marcus on our show, he’s a good friend, he’s a ball of energy, he’s probably the most positive person I know and every time I catch up with Marcus I feel like I’m on cloud nine, and it is just awesome to be able to share his message with you today. [00:01:00] Now if you have no idea who Marcus is, he is the CEO of Australia’s number one health and lifestyle podcast, network, I should say, which is The Wellness Couch. They’re fantastic, and in 2014, he created the Exceptional Life Blueprint, a company dedicated to helping people rise from mediocre, mediocre, I should say, to magnificent in each area of his life, and not just one. And Marcus spreads his message through his online programs, podcasts, live events, and retreats, and one-on-one mentoring and more. [00:01:30] Look, sit back, enjoy this episode. Like I said, Marcus is a top guy, and you’re going to get lots out of this today, and as always, guys, if you are enjoying the shows, please subscribe to the podcast, hit the five star, and leave us a review on iTunes. Just help us spread the word. Help us get these episodes out there so we can all empower our lives for the better. Anyway, let’s go over to Marcus Pearce. Enjoy. Hey, this is Guy Lawrence. I’m joined by Stuart Cook. Good morning, Stu. Stu Good morning, Guy. Guy And I just got to say, your camera just froze with the best expression ever then. That was just perfect. Stu That wasn’t the camera that was frozen. That was me. I was just waiting for something. I was waiting for a pearl of wisdom to come out your mouth. Guy And there’ll be plenty today, so hold on, mate. Hold on. Stu [inaudible 00:02:03]. Guy And our special guest today is Mr. Marcus Pearce. Marcus, welcome to the show. Marcus Guy, Stu, thanks for having me on. Well done on what you guys have been up to. Incredible what 180′s been able to do, both in the health and wellness space and in the podcast space, so well done, and yeah, a pleasure to be with you guys. Guy Great. Stu Thank you so much. Guy [00:02:30] Thank you. You’re too kind. You’re too kind, mate. Now, Marcus, even though I know you well personally, we’ll be exposing you to many new listeners today. So I love to ask everyone on the show, just to get the ball rolling, if a stranger stopped you on the street and asked you what you did for a living, what would you say? Marcus [00:03:00] I have a different answer every day. I don’t know about you guys, but there’s always a different answer. Someone, it would be journalist by profession that used to be sports media that transitioned to health and wellness personal growth media. If someone had seen the online marketing, it would be I have an online program, and I run live events about helping people. [00:03:30] Really, the purpose of my life is to help people rise from mediocre to magnificent in all areas of life, and not just one. But that is often too deep and meaningful for someone in the street, so to give that to someone in the street just knocks them out. So it’s actually just, yeah, journalist by profession that is a sports nut that wanted to do more than just work in sports, so I transitioned from sports media into health and wellness personal growth media, and then they’ll normally say, “What does that mean, and how do you do it?” and then I’ll tell them about The Wellness Couch and Exceptional Life Blueprint and the rest. This week we chat to the epic man Marcus Pearce. It was a heap of fun. Marcus is such a lovely dude we have a lot of love for this man!   This is the stuff we talk about: Setting goals and why so many of us fail How to get re-motivated Human connection, self-connection Social media taking over human connection Importance of physical touch How good exercise is The relationship between lack of exercise and dementia (YES, dementia!) AND MORE! Merrymaker mantra of the week: Social media is not socialising. How much time are you spending on social media? Is it replacing in real life (IRL) connection? For us... yes it was. So we love that this topic came up and we love this mantra Marcus shared with us.  Don't get us wrong we LOVE (love love love) social media! It's bloody amazing BUT we started to use it way too much and it does have a way of getting in the way of REAL life human connection.  So if you're feeling a bit off with your relationships... where are you putting your focus? The real life people or the people on your social media? Because where your focus goes energy will flow (as Tony would say!). We go into way more detail on the episode. Listen and let us know what you think! If you love it, be sure to subscribe on your podcast app. Here are the links to iTunes and Stitcher for Androids. Whoops! But we're also 100% sure there are a couple of golden moments amongst the cray cray. Surely! This is what went down in Merry Land.... The Merry News update. We are in some kind of workflow river. It's pretty epic and we are way more organised than normal so this rocks.  GetMerry recipe app update. Becuase it's our fave project. Three words: Easter Chocolate Bundle.  Beauty and the Beast. How epic the movie was. We sing, just a little bit. Also how good that Disney added the multi-cultural and same-sex relationship aspect.  LOL moment Emma talks about her wedgie slide incident at White Water World. Haha. Actually such fun times! Minus the wedgie violation.    Merry Mantra of the week In this week's episode we talk about how the answer to everything is always to come back to gratitude BUT actually, this week's mantra is Comparison is the thief of joy. This little mantra has helped us in so many ways! Whether you compare your business, your body, your family, your job, your life etc. we have a few actions steps that will help. We also talk about our own experiences because guess what... it's super easy to fall back into comparing yourself. Even when you know it is thief of all good. Yahuh.  Super pumped to bring you even more #GetMerry podcasts yewww! Next week we are interviewing our good friend Marcus Pearce. How would go collaborating with someone you don't have that relationship with? What creates a good vibe at a live event?   "Live events create real life experiences and nothing beats that."   Some AHA!! Moments in this episode.... No matter what industry you're in you can create a great event. Don't collaborate with someone if you don't have a win for them.
