Hi everyone, my name is Daniel Elias and welcome back to another episode of the believe move grow podcast.  Today's feature guest is Kasey Orvidas. I first came across Kasey when I was searching for research on mindset in children and childhood obesity.  Kasey has authored some fantastic research titled Healthy body, healthy mind: A mindset intervention for obese youth. Kasey really knows what she is talking about with a PhD in psychology, a certified health and fitness coach and a specialism in mindset and health behaviour change.  Kasey is also entrepreneurial and has set up her own business named KJO coaching and I will put the links to her website in the resources section.  On her website I would direct everyone to Kasey's blog which is jam packed with useful information on  a wide variety of topics such as how the g,ut is the second brain through to the three elements of behaviour change and much, much more.  Kasey also trains people to gain a ‘Health Mindset coaching certification' and having spent an hour chatting to Kasey on my podcast I can attest to the fact that Kasey's delivery and explanation of mindset is second to none. The National Senior Games run June 14-25 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  This 19-sport competition for men and women 50 and over is the largest multi-sport championships in the world for seniors. Welcome to Free Thinking Friday, a brief episode where discuss some of the things I’ve been pondering throughout the week. I was alarmed when I woke up and read an article one of my friends posted on Facebook. It talked about the link between Alzheimer's and menopause. At the end of the article, almost as a footnote, they mentioned that no one had yet studied how this affects breast cancer patients on hormone-blocking drugs. I felt like I was going to hyperventilate. The article said that surgical removal of the ovaries increases the risk of Alzheimer's by 70%... This was not exactly the statistic I wanted to wake up to. I did a little digging to see what else I could find about this menopause/Alzheimer's link, and I'm chatting about that research on this week's episode. I did some killer interviews over the summer with top minds in the health and fitness industry. For this podcast, I looked back through the podcast episodes and used some clips from the interviews as journal prompts.  Tune into the podcast to get the full context. If you are trying to find more time to foam roll, or to do strength exercises, or to work in a bit of yoga, how can you fit it in? She is also the Director of the Sport, Health, and Activity Research and Policy Center (SHARP) at the University of Michigan, and Chair of the U.S. National Physical Activity Plan’s Communications Committee. Her evidence-based ideas about what motivates people to choose and maintain healthy behaviors is changing the conversation across fields. She consults with global organizations on these issues and delivers keynotes and sustainable behavior change trainings. She ran with the Olympic Torch at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. For more show notes visit our website   A grandfather is talking with his grandson and he says there are two wolves inside of us which are always at war with each other.  One of them is a good wolf which represents things like kindness, bravery and love. The other is a bad wolf, which represents things like greed, hatred and fear. The grandson stops and thinks about it for a second then he looks up at his grandfather and says, “Grandfather, which one wins?” The grandfather quietly replies, the one you feed The Tale of Two Wolves is often attributed to the Cherokee indians but there seems to be no real proof of this. It has also been attributed to evangelical preacher Billy Graham and Irish Playwright George Bernard Shaw. It appears no one knows for sure but this does not diminish the power of the parable. This parable goes by many names including: The Tale of Two Wolves The Parable of the Two Wolves Two Wolves Which Wolf Do You Feed Which Wolf are You Feeding Which Wolf Will You Feed It also often features different animals, mainly two dogs.
