Former MTV Asia VJ and Television Presenter/Producer, Denise Keller, and Miss Universe Japan 2021, Juri Watanabe, are the definition of beauty, smarts and grace to their audiences who have followed them as celebrated major pageant winners and popular on-air talent. But, what they their fans may not know is the desire and drive both of these women have when it comes to breaking down taboos in Asian culture, and beyond, around issues like infertility, pregnancy loss and mental health. Denise, who resides in Singapore and is of Chinese and German ancestry, and Juri, who now lives in Los Angeles and who is of Japanese and Korean descent, strive to elevate the conversation on their public platforms so that others who are struggling, feel less isolated as they once did. This episode's midroll includes a conversation with Reproductive Endocrinologist, Dr. Janelle Luk, Co-Founder and Medical Director of Generation Next Fertility, who says that one reason she has a passion for women's health is because of her experience as a young girl growing up in Hong Kong and learning that her mother was given away at birth. Dr. Luk also shares how certain conditions that impact fertility, like Diminished Ovarian Reserve and PCOS, show up in higher numbers and/or display differently in people of Asian descent than their white counterparts. The subject of “Asian Infertility” is a highly under-researched and under-covered topic. As a result, some people may not access the care they need. This dynamic conversation with newsmakers and thought leaders, which is also in honor of the Chinese New Year, and “The Year of the Dragon” (known to see an uptick in fertility!), strives to continue and expand the conversation so that people get the help they need and know that they are not alone. This episode is supported by Generation Next Fertility in New York City, whose mission is to provide individualized patient centric quality care and innovative technologies to help patients become parents. Oh we're definitely talking about Kris Polaha's tragic hairstyle in this movie. Megan and Wendy review "A Winning Team" Hallmark's newest original movie starring Kristoffer Polaha and Hallmark newcomer Nadia Hatta. Check out that heated debate in our Girls Gone Hallmark Facebook group. Or, email the show at meganandwendy@gmail.com to tell us what you thought of this week's Kristoffer Polaha soccer movie. Megan and Wendy review Hallmark Channel's "A Winning Team" starring Kris Polaha and newcomer Nadia Hatta. About "A Winning Team" Kristoffer Polaha plays Ian. Everyone knows who Polaha is. He was in last year's “We Wish You a Married Christmas” and had a cameo in “Haul Out the Holly.” He will star in the highly anticipated “A Biltmore Christmas” later this year. According to his IMDB, he has a ton of upcoming work including "Harlen Coben's Shelter." Nadia Hatta plays 3-time World Cup soccer champion Emily. According to IMDB she is best known for her role in a series called “Away” on Netflix. This is her first Hallmark movie. She was also a VJ at MTV Asia. You may have recognized Adil Zaidi as Ian's friend. At the time of recording, he hadn't been given credit on IMDB. He typically plays a lot of “friend-of” roles in Hallmark movies. I wouldn't mind seeing him as a lead. This was written by Ronee Uyeshiro. This is her first writing credit. Jason Furukawa directed. He has 13 directing credits including last year's “A Magical Christmas Village.” Filmed in Vancouver during winter - which made this spring movie hard to film, especially the outdoor soccer scenes.
We had the pleasure of interviewing XTIE over Zoom video! The vulnerability XTIE showcases through her songwriting on “Skin” emulates a message worth embracing. ““Skin” is a very important song that contributes to my artistic journey, and because of that I've chosen to partner with a Nonprofit [Body Banter] to further bring out the social initiative. In the past, I've never shown my skin condition in interviews, but I've recently freed myself from my body image issues after being mocked about my skin condition and looking “underweight” during my teenage years. The production of “Skin” explores very relevant and important topics for today's young people: body image disorders, the link between social media and body image, as well as physical and mental health. XTIE's high register resounds on a confessional bridge before the hook's affirmation; “Fighting all of my insecurities. Stop judging me by looking at my skin. I just wanna lift up my chin. Telling me there's a world to win.”Through the power of performing arts, XTIE and Emily have incorporated their own experiences of having body image issues into this video, since it's a very unique perspective that can truly resonate with. This is showcased through the choreography style; using moves to emulate things like having habits affecting body language, squinting in the mirror when trying on clothes to "block out" eczema, excessive picking, etc.Hailing from Hong Kong, XTIE is an independent artist that self-produces, writes, arranges, and performs her own songs. Already having garnered support from Earmilk, Billboard ID, MTV Asia, BBC Radio, and more. Her singles “Spaceship”, “frenemy” peaked No.1 on the RTHK Global chart. MTV Asia praised XTIE stating; "Not only gifted with warm jazz-tinged vocals, she also writes, arranges, produces, and performs her songs that are shimmering." Earmilk raved about her previous release; "XTIE continues to set herself up as a promising talent in the industry with her flair for transportive productions." Apart from her releases as an artist, her production credits include stellar-level acts and TV shows from Hong Kong, including but not limited to: Janice Vidal, Alfred Hui, ViuTV King Maker IV, (a girl group idol competition) etc. XTIE is also currently writing and producing for A-Pop / K-pop markets as well.We want to hear from you! TVNZ programmers have the show for the times with Eat Well for Less. Viewers are in for some jaw-dropping reality when household shopping goes under the microscope. The show, based on a UK series, is hosted by chefs Mike van de Elzen (TVNZ's The Food Truck, and Kiwi Living) and restaurateur Ganesh Raj (owner of The Tasting Shed, co-owner of The Māori Kitchen.) Viewers will be happy to meet Raj and his infectious sense of humour, with van de Elzen already a favourite of TV audiences. In each episode, the pair will meet a Kiwi family, and share their knowledge on how to save money, sort food facts from food fiction and eat well for less. By the end of each episode, the team hopes to have changed a family's life, as well as the size of their shopping bill.Raj has been behind the camera as a marketing creative and a director since he and his producer wife, Jo, moved from Singapore to Auckland in 2002."It's been almost 20 years since I was a presenter on ESPN Asia and MTV Asia, and it was great to be back in front of the camera again and not have to think about camera angles and how segments will edit together," Raj tells Spy.In 2011 the pair opened The Tasting Shed, in Kumeu. The restaurant has consistently been in the Top 50 Auckland Restaurants' list and he has twice been named Restaurant Personality of the Year. The pair were amped to do the show as a useful aid to families, with neither realising how important their show would be in these times."My passion has always been to encourage Kiwis to eat healthier and share recipes and tips that are good for you, but don't compromise on taste," says van de Elzen. "It was an absolute honour to be invited into people's homes during Eat Well For Less, and if we can help just one Kiwi family watching the show, it will be a success in my eyes." he says."Right now we all need to shop within our means and serve what keeps the family happy. Comfort food is key during these stressful times but that doesn't mean you can't make a few tweaks to have some variety," says Raj, who is soon to start a YouTube channel about global food that doesn't cost the world."Make sure each meal has leftovers so you can repurpose it the next day. Budgets are going to get tight over the next six-18 months. Save money by learning how to cook some simple, delicious meals," he says.Van de Elzen says Uber Eats was just too easy and expensive for families and the show will more than demonstrate wasted spending. "Takeaways can still be a treat for families, just not an everyday thing. This lockdown has made us put back on our pinnies and cook for ourselves. Yes, it doesn't always work out and taste as good as your favourite Thai delivery but you are cooking from scratch and best of all your kids are learning the very valuable lessons of food," he says. Both hospo pros know Level 3 will be tough on their own restaurants."I am trying to approach the next wee while with two values in mind. Compassion and courage. Every day I tell myself that I have to have the compassion to look after my family and staff," says Raj.For van de Elzen, he says its back to basics."Each chef and business will have dishes or cuisines that they're loved for, and people will have been craving during the Lockdown. Focusing on good food, good customer service and a good atmosphere will get us through," he says.LISTEN TO GANESH RAJ TALK WITH ANDREW DICKENS ABOVE

When the red light goes on and I'm on the air, I don't think about the thousands of people who are watching me. I just try to connect with one person. -Joy Lim Nakrin Words of wisdom from NBC 10 & NECN Boston news anchor Joy Lim Nakrin. She has spent much of her professional life in front of the camera, not just here in the United States, but on ESPN and MTV Asia and as the host of a reality show in Malaysia. Joy moved through television markets, most recently from Fox 25 in Hartford, Connecticut to Boston, and along the way, has been grateful for every opportunity she has had to learn her craft. The child of immigrants, Joy grew up in rural North Carolina and is of Chinese, Filipino and Jewish decent. When her relatives had a hard time understanding English, it was Joy who stepped in as their interpreter. Education was held in high regard in Joy's home and she recalls getting punished if she didn't get straight A's in school. She began her college experience as a pre-med major, only to shift to philosophy when she realized she just couldn't stand the sight of blood! Faced with what her next step in life would be, Joy applied to Duke University Law School and became one of college's youngest graduates. That law degree has served Joy well, giving her an extra dose of confidence and legal knowledge when it comes to pointed questions. A passionate advocate for the Boston area's Chinese and Filipino population, Joy volunteers her time on behalf of the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, is a spokesperson for the MSPCA's Clear The Shelters Campaign and serves on the board of the Asian American Journalists Association of New England. @BWME #storybehindhersuccess #16LifeLessons #mydoveproductions

Jonny McGovern is back on OUTSpoken & Talking with Sex is Back – Damon Jacobs Will Help Answer your Questions 2016-4-17OUTSpoken“HEY QWEEN”, THE GAYEST TALK SHOW OF ALL TIME, GETS A MAKE-OVER FOR ITS FOURTH RAUCOUS SEASON January 25, 2016 – NEW YORK: Hey Qween!, the world’s gayest talk show of all time, is getting a face-lift this winter. When the show returns for its fourth season next month, it will debut a sexy new look and sound. For three hilarious seasons, comedian Jonny McGovern and his co-host Lady Red Couture have welcomed many of the countries top LGBT and drag talent − including RuPaul, Laganga Estranja, and Candis Cayne − to their couch. On February 15th,Hey Qween! launches its fourth raucous season ontheStream.tv. “Hey Qween! is a place for gay stars and underground legends to come and tell their stories in a way they can’t on any other talk show,” explains host and executive producer, Jonny McGovern. “We cut up, have a kiki and a gay ‘ol time. Then, at the end of every show, the special guest gets a trophy and a lap dance from one of our in-house strippers! It’s a half hour of pure merriment.” “You don’t have to be gay to be on Hey Qween!,’ he adds. “Just gay friendly and ready for fun.” Lots of changes are in store for the upcoming season of Hey Qween! including a brand new set and the addition of a regular cast member. Billboard charting vocalist Adam Joseph joins the gang as bandleader of “Adam Joseph and The Go To Bed Wigs”. “For years our show has been called The Tonight Show if Johnny Carson was a big gay lumberjack and Ed McMahon was the largest drag queen in captivity,” continues McGovern. “Now we got a glittery twink version of Doc Severinsen.” Adam Joseph has a long association with Jonny McGovern. He is the voice of the Hey Qween! theme song and the music producer behind all of McGovern’s albums. The addition of a bandleader will mean more music parodies and comedy to the show. Also new will be a series of “Drag Besties” episodes, kicking off with Detox and Vicky Vox of the Drag supergroup DWV. Fan-favorite segments returning this season are “Betta As a Bitch Track”, where the show trolls the trolls, turning real life negative comments from the Internet into over-the-top “bitch tracks” and the “Look At Huh!” game, where guests share their personal stories of celebrities. Jonny “The Gay Pimp” McGovern’s career began in 2003 with Dirty Gay Hits, a collection of hilarious gay themed songs. The video release of “Soccer Practice” from the album received over three million downloads and was added to rotation on MTV Europe and MTV Asia, making Jonny an international phenomenon. Soon, he was appearing all over the airwaves, on The Ricky Lake Show, VH1’s Best Week Ever, Comedy Central’s Out on the Edge, and more. Jonny eventually caught the eye of Rosie O’Donnell, who cast him as a lead player on her LOGO-TV comedy show, The Big Gay Sketch Show. “Working with Jonny is one of the joys of my life,” says Lady Red Couture from the Hey Qween! set in Hollywood. “He’s so sweet. I’ll never forget when RuPaul came to visit and we were filming the opening banter and I messed up. So Jonny says, ‘Don’t be nervous because RuPaul is here.’ Then RuPaul says, ‘DO be nervous because RuPaul is here!’ Oh, I wet myself laughing!” “We’ve become the best of friends making Hey Qween!“ reflects Jonny McGovern of his relationship with Lady Red Couture. “She’s such a quick wit and naturally funny. People think that because I’m executive producer of the show, I also direct her. You don’t ever make Lady Red do anything. If she’s eating on the show, its cause the bitch wants a snack! I just let Lady Red be herself and that’s more than enough.” Hey Qween! has been so successful for theStream.tv, the online network launched the show as its own YouTube channel and has plans to launch a stand-alone website. The show has also spawned several spin-offs, including the Look At Huh! aftershow that began airing last spring. In March, theStream.tv will begin airing the second seasons of: Judge Lady Red, a court show with Lady Red presiding over the disputes of young queens and deciding whether it’s ‘Shade’ or ‘No Shade’; He’s Fit, a parody of fitness shows starring lap dancer Greg McKeon as he competes in flex battles against Instagram hotties; and Hot T, a bi-weekly gossip show with Julie Goldman and Brandy Howard (from Bravo’s The People’s Couch) breaking down the hot topics of the week. A new advice show, Hey Qween Can I Axe You A Question?, will premiere later this season. “We’re thrilled to bring back Hey Qween! for a fourth season,” says theStream.tv’s Susan Wrenn. “Jonny and Lady Red are both so talented and passionate about what they do. Their creativity inspires everyone here at theStream.tv.” Look for Jonny McGovern and Lady Red Couture this summer when they host Pride Festivals and bring their Hey Qween!nightclub show to cities across the country. The fourth season of Hey Qween! begins airing February 15th on theStream.tv. ————————————– WELCOME! Simran Sethi is a five-foot tall dynamo of the new environmental movement who is more than likely powered by photovoltaic cells or some other form of ecologically friendly cyborg technology. There's no other possible explanation for her improbably prodigious output. Simran, a German-born Punjabi who grew up in North Carolina, began her career with MTV Asia and created their India news division. She has contributed to the BBC, PBS, NPR, and is a regular guest of dueling divas Oprah and Martha. When she's not blogging on Treehugger.com, she's either podcasting for Air America Radio or hosting "The Green" on Sundance Channel-oh, and she's a featured author in the book "Ethical Markets: Growing the Green Economy." In between all of this global do-goodery, she somehow found time to move to Lawrence last year. Simran joined us-on Earth Day, no less-to talk about her inexhaustible eco-efforts. It's Punditocracy's politics and culture green-gasm!
