I was joined by recent LPGA Tour card holder in the lovely Robi Liti right after going back to Final Stage of Q School to try and regain her LPGA Tour playing privileges. The 29 year old from beautiful Siena in Tuscany, Italy went to Arizona State University (ASU) and established a solid Amateur career as a 5x Italian National Champion at various levels, participated in World Amateur Team Championship twice & European Team Championships for Italy, was a finalist at British Girls Championship, won the prestigious PING/ASU Invitational in 2017 while also winning the All American Scholar of the Year and the NCAA Elite 90 Awards in 2018. Robi would turn pro at the end of 2018 and would gain starts on Epson Tour from 2019. Robi's career would turn in 2023 after a background change in coach would help Roberta regain some confidence which would result in 9 Top 10's on Epson Tour including a T2nd at Black Desert. Overall Liti would finish 8th in Epson Tour Order of Merit to gain full status on LPGA Tour for 2024. We find out how she got on in 2024 in her own words! We also get to talk about the rise of Italian Golf especially in the women's game with talented players like Benedetta Moresco and Carolina Melgrati coming out the college system. We also chat some Calcio as Roberta although from Tuscany is a Juventus fan. Reminder that votes close on 13th January for Sports Podcast Awards with the winners getting announced on 30th January. The support so far has been amazing and overwhelming at times. Would love the votes to keep coming. Keep voting for Chasing Pars as Best Golf Podcast!! When Ralph Waldo Emerson suggested that it's the journey, not the destination, that matters, he may not have had higher education in mind. That said, applicants often overlook what really matters on the road to college. Amy and Mike invited college consultant Arthur Smith to explore the intrinsic value of the college admissions process. What are five things you will learn in this episode? What does the college admissions process entail in general? What is actually involved when you focus on “the process” instead of the outcome? How can focusing on “the process” lead to more satisfying outcomes in the admissions process? What roles do ambition and authenticity play in the college admissions process? In what ways does learning how to focus on the process set students up with a valuable life lesson that goes beyond the college applications? MEET OUR GUEST With 25 years of experience working with students and their parents at Cornell and Duke Universities as an advising dean, admissions chair, and Division I head coach, Dr. Arthur Smith is intimately familiar with what it takes to be successful in the selective admissions process. Dr. Smith, known as Artie to his colleagues and students, studied history and Africana Studies as an undergraduate in the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University, where he graduated cum laude and with distinction in all subjects. He continued his education at Duke University, where he earned his MA and Ph.D. in history. Returning to Cornell, Artie served as an assistant director of admissions in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and was the athletics liaison between the seven different admissions offices at Cornell and the university's 36 varsity teams. He then spent nine years as an admissions and advising dean in the College of Arts and Sciences, where he chaired admissions committees and guided hundreds of students through the college's curriculum. His unique journey in higher education has also been defined by a highly successful 23 years of coaching track and field and cross country at the Division I level. A nationally recognized distance coach who worked with 19 All-Americans, 31 Ivy League champions, and 12 Eastern champions while coaching 19 Ivy League Championship teams, Artie was Cornell's head women's track and field and cross country coach. During his time in the Ivy League, Artie chaired admissions committees and evaluated over 20,000 applications, served as a faculty advisor and advising dean, managed the TransAtlantic Series, an Exchange between Cornell University and Oxford and Cambridge Universities in the United Kingdom, and mentored hundreds of student-athletes. Artie's teams and athletes were outstanding in the classroom, with six of his students earning CoSIDA Academic All-American honors, two students earning NCAA Elite 89/90 honors, and three going on to win Marshall and Goldwater Scholarships. Notably, every student he coached who applied for medical school, veterinary school, or law school gained admission. Artie is here to listen and work with each student's goals. His two decades of mentoring experiences contribute to his firm belief that success in college—and beyond—comes from a person's creativity, authenticity, and concern for others. He can help you tell your story. Artie can be reached at https://www.arthursmithadvising.com. Full Hour | Today, Dom led off the Dom Giordano Program by offering his thoughts on last night's Women's NCAA Elite 8 matchup between Caitlin Clark's Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Angel Reese's LSU Tigers. Dom tells about a tweet from Megan Brock, who warned of the damage to women's sports that persists with the inclusion of Trans athletes, which leads Dom to a similar point. Then, Dom plays back a clip from Robert Kennedy Jr. on CNN who suggested that Biden, not Trump, is the bigger danger to Democracy. Then, Dom expresses his frustration that Florida's 6-week abortion ban is going to become an election reality, noting the damage that Trump faces if Florida flips due to the situation. Also, Dom reveals the Forbes Billionaire list, asking if Beyoncé recorded her country album after seeing Taylor Swift's ever-growing net worth. (Photo by Jessica Kourkounis/Getty Images)

Happy Birthday to us! 95.7 The Rock turns 26 years old today, and that is NOT an April Fool's prank! Brian & Shaw started the morning by recapping their Easter weekends, including the NCAA Elite 8 action. Since it's the first of the month, we hooked you up with a list of things to look forward to in April, and we talked about the possibility of a "Home Improvement" reunion/reboot. Cool story about a 105 year-old guy who is about to see his 13th solar eclipse! Had a new "Karen of the Day" who insulted some police officers and then pissed her pants. We got to the Monday Morning Throwback and discussed Justin Thomas' attempted chug at a recent Rangers game. Speaking of food & drinks at sporting events, now that the MLB regular season is in full swing, we took a look at some of the more unique offerings at ballparks this year. During today's "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about the crew members stuck on the ship that ran into the bridge in Baltimore, a nurse that allegedly gave excessive insulin to multiple diabetic patients, a produce vendor who tried to hire a hitman to kill a rival produce vendor, a #FloridaMan who was stabbing himself in the stomach and then got shot by police, the oldest Dairy Queen in Rochester is being sold, a Tesla that ran out of juice while trying to escape from police, and a massive saw blade that got loose & almost killed a guy. On episode 122 I am delighted to be joined by one of Ireland's best ever female basketball players Claire O'Sullivam (nee Rockall). Claire grew up in Galway before spending time in the US playing college basketball. She returned to Cork and joined Glanmire and since then has cemented herself as one of Ireland's greatest female athletes. In 2009 Claire was a member of the Senior Women's team that qualified for the Eurobasket but due to funding issues the senior team was disbanded, robbing Claire the opportunity to compete at the Eurobasket level during her prime. Despite this she has over 25 senior caps and accumulated an incredible list of accolades playing in our domestic leagues. O'Sullivan returned to play Superleague with Glabnmire after giving birth to her daughter Emma and in 2023 captured the Superleague title with impressive performances throughout the season. She continued this into the summer as she suited up for the Senior Women's 3x3 team in Cyprus. So take a listen and learn from a future unanimous Basketball Hall of famer Claire as she gives us an insight into her mentality and work ethic that helped her become the player she is today. They finished by talking about his wife Becca, their journey and an upcoming milestone for the both of them.
In March 2022, the St. Peter's Peacocks became just the third team in NCAA tournament history to defeat a 2-seed when they upset Kentucky. After then defeating Murray State to advance to the Sweet 16, the notoriety grew exponentially. Suddenly, news reports talked about the amazing story of St. Peters and all the benefits of them winning on a national stage. This episode asks the question of how all this exposure can be quantified. Will more students enroll? Do they get more money to fund other school programs? Is student morale something that can be measured? Scott Rosner, Academic Director of Sports Management and Professor at Columbia University, joins the show to discuss the empirical data and all the factors that can impact St. Peters both positively and negatively. Happy Friday! We couldn't end Women's History Month without an episode with a significant woman in sports history. Special Jennings, Head Girls Basketball Coach at Montverde Academy. 2020-2021 was Jenning's inaugural year as head coach, which filled with many accomplishments. Coach Jennings led the Lady Eagles to a 21-2 record while being ranked #1 in the country for 13 weeks, a record her teams broke 13 times during the regular season. Jennings is no stranger to winning. Starting 115 consecutive games at Xavier University. She is currently tied for fourth in all-time assists for the Musketeers with 515. She also still holds the fifth-place spot in Xavier's all-time free throw percentage at .773. Jennings led the Musketeers to an NCAA "Elite 8" appearance in 2010, four Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament titles, and three other NCAA Tournament appearances. Since her last professional minutes in May 2013, Jennings has been honing her craft as a leader and teacher of the game. Jennings' latest position was Associate Head Coach at The University of Illinois at Chicago, spending two years there from 2018-19 to 2019-2020. While the program was in a rebuilding stage during that time, they are poised for a successful season after the re-tooling of Special and her colleagues in the recent past. Jennings is no stranger to Florida basketball. She spent the 2017-18 season as an Assistant Coach at Flagler College in Saint Augustine, Fla. She helped turn around the team's play during that time, earning a 16-6 record in the Peach Belt Conference in her final season. Even though it was only a brief spell at Flagler, Jennings left her mark in mentoring the 2018 Peach Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Tabitha Odabe. Before arriving at Flagler, Jennings honed her craft as Assistant Coach at Augusta University for three seasons. From 2014 to 2017, she played a critical role in scouting, player development, planning and conducting practices, and overall player development on and off the court. The Jaguars made it to the NCAA Division II "Sweet 16" in March 2016 and amassed 46 overall wins during Jennings' tenure. Prior to her time at Augusta, Jennings got her start as an administrative assistant for the women's basketball program at Wright State for the 2013-14 season. She assisted in many aspects of the program, most notably serving to ensure players maintained academic excellence. Wright State earned their first Horizon League Championship and first NCAA Tournament appearance with her on the bench in 2014. Jennings stood out as a player, starting 115 consecutive games at Xavier University. Jennings then went on to spend 2011-13 as a professional player in Finland. special.jennings@montverde.org @SpecialJennings --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/kevin-furtado/support
