Welcome back to the No Problem Parenting™ Podcast! In today's episode, we're talking about something that hits close to home for so many of us—our relationship with technology. I'm joined by Joey Odom, co-founder of Aro, who's on a mission to help families build healthier tech habits. Joey's story is one many parents will connect with: he missed his son's first soccer goal because he was distracted by his phone. That missed moment sparked a major shift in how he approaches family time, inspiring him to create Aro—a platform that empowers parents and kids to set boundaries with technology, stay present, and strengthen their family bonds. Joey's journey with Aro, which he launched with his friend and co-founder, Heath Wilson, is all about helping parents lead by example. Since Aro's debut, thousands of families have adopted this approach to be more intentional with their screen time, modeling habits for kids that prioritize connection over distraction. Joey and I chat about how tech can impact our kids' mental health and family dynamics and the powerful ways we can keep tech from taking over. You'll also hear practical, down-to-earth tips on how to balance technology use at home without the guilt trips or unrealistic expectations. So, whether you're trying to scale back on screen time yourself or you're looking for ways to guide your kiddos, you'll find plenty of encouragement and know-how in this episode. Hey, No Problem Parents! Today's episode is all about becoming a more intentional and confident leader—both in your home and at work. Whether you're navigating challenging conversations with your kids, managing stress at the office, or balancing both worlds, learning how to respond instead of react can make all the difference. We're breaking down practical ways to lead with purpose, no matter where you are or who you're with. Joining us is Daniel Blackburn, an inspiring author, speaker, executive coach, and yoga therapist who understands the power of intentional leadership in every area of life. Daniel lives in St. Paul, MN, with his wife Ann, and together they've raised three children and now enjoy being grandparents. In this episode, Daniel shares his insights on: How to move from reacting to responding with intention and confidence, whether you're at home with your kids or leading a team at work. Practical steps to build intentional habits that can help you manage stress and stay grounded in the moment. How mindfulness and meditation can support you in finding that pause, allowing you to choose a more thoughtful and effective response. How intentional leadership improves mental and emotional well-being, creating healthier dynamics both at home and in the workplace. Tools to transform old, reaction-based behaviors into confident, purposeful actions that align with your values and goals. Daniel's unique blend of executive leadership experience and his background in yoga therapy brings a down-to-earth and practical perspective on leading with intention. Welcome Back No-Problem Parents! Today's guests, Diane Dierks and Rick Voyles, co-hosts of the Co-Parent Dilemmas podcast, are experts in navigating the complexities of co-parenting, especially in high-conflict situations. In each episode, they address pressing questions such as: What do you do when the other parent won't be flexible with the parenting schedule? How do you respond to a co-parent who is constantly blowing up your phone with texts? Is it really important to talk to your children when they are at the other parent's house? And what about the parent who won't share important information with you about the children? Do you give in to the other parent's antics or should you hold your ground? There are at least two sides to every conflict, and when it's between divorced or separated parents, sparks can fly. Diane and Rick offer valuable insights into the benefits and risks of Letting Go vs. Holding On to the conflict in a variety of complex topics facing co-parents today. DIANE DIERKS is a licensed marriage and family therapist, as well as the executive director of the Center for Navigating Family Change (www.CNFC.org), a non-profit that provides court-ordered parenting education and co-parenting services to the state of Georgia. She has been a parenting coordinator and reunification therapist for many years and provides consultation and expert witness services in high-conflict custody matters. RICK VOYLES is CEO of the Center for Dispute Solutions, as well as a certified business coach, an anger management specialist, and a professional mediator. Rick travels internationally, training and developing federal mediators in their agency ADR programs. He is a published author, business coach, and entrepreneur. He has developed an online Mediation Training including over 17 video presentations. He has also produced a TV program, “Conflict, Mediation and You” where he discusses topics in conflict management, as well as mediation techniques. Rick is a subject matter expert in the areas of Divorce, Co-parenting, Negotiation, Cross-cultural Communication, and Conflict Resolution. He frequently teaches court-ordered co-parenting seminars and is a trained parenting coordinator. Welcome back to another Mindset Monday Episode! Today's topic is one that hits close to home for many parents: lying. Your little one looks you right in the eye and tells a big ol' fib. Whether it's their first time, it's become a habit or they are lying on the daily. Either way, it's a situation that can throw any parent for a loop. Why do kids lie? Well, there are tons of reasons – from trying to avoid getting in trouble to impressing their buddies or even protecting someone else. Understanding where they're coming from can help us tackle the issue in the right way. So, what's the best way to handle it when you catch your kiddo spinning a yarn for the first time? Well, first things first, don't freak out! Instead of coming down on them like a ton of bricks, take a deep breath and address the situation with curiosity and then with natural consequences. And what if it's not just a one-time thing? What if your kiddo seems to have a knack for stretching the truth? Well, that's when things get a bit trickier. Chronic lying might be a sign of deeper issues like low self-esteem or anxiety. In those cases, it's all about approaching the situation with understanding and maybe even seeking some professional support. Remember, as parents, we've got a big role to play in all of this and even when they slip up, the key is keeping those lines of communication wide open so that they will tell you the truth. You want your kids to trust that you can handle the truth and the goal is to guide them through the hard stuff, follow through with expectations, build them up and allow them to make right the mistakes they've made. Welcome Back No-Problem Parents! Welcome to another Self-Care Sunday on the No Problem Parenting podcast. Today, we're talking all things hugs – done right they do wonders for our well-being and our connection with our kids. How many hugs to you get and give on a daily basis? Three benefits of a hug: Immune Booster Hugs boost our immune system. The pressure of a hug stimulates the thymus gland, regulating white blood cell production and keeping you healthy. Hugs also balance your nervous system, increasing circulation and promoting a sense of balance between the fight/flight/freeze and rest and digest responses. Hugs help increase circulation and help balance our sympathetic (fight/flight/freeze) and parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous systems. Emotional Nourishment Hugs go beyond the physical – they provide emotional nourishment too. Boosting oxytocin levels, hugs alleviate feelings of loneliness and anger. Sharing a hug is a shared experience, creating a sense of belonging. Hugs increase your feelings of safety. Hugs emotionally “feed” us, help us remember that we're not alone, and help us feel more trust with others. Have you noticed how relaxed and calm you feel after a hug? It's a reminder that we're not alone, and together, we can face any challenge. Hugs increase your feelings of belonging. They boost oxytocin levels, which heal feelings of loneliness, isolation, and anger. Hugging is a shared experience: you're both giving and receiving affection. Self-Esteem Hug Extended hugs, those lasting 20 seconds or more, are like a serotonin boost for your mood. They increase feelings of self-esteem, importance, and self-love. Remember the warmth you felt as a child when your parents looked at you with affection? Hugs recreate that sense of being seen and loved. Remember the goal is oxytocin and serotonin release, hugs are not just physical gestures; they're powerful tools for our overall health and connection. So, if you haven't already, intentionally create times in your day to your kids, partner and yourself, and let the healing power of hugs bring joy and calm into your day. Notice the change in your mood and well-being and the changes in your kids and teens. Thank you for tuning in to the No Problem Parenting podcast.
