Do you ever find yourself feeling less calm and confident as a parent, even though you're doing your best?
The sense of urgency in parenting often leads to reactive rather than creative problem-solving, posing unique challenges for both parents and children. Elaine and Diane, drawing from their personal experiences and insights, underscore the importance of recognizing and managing the signs of reactivity, such as hypervigilance or catastrophizing. Listen to this Parenting With Impact episode with Elaine and Diane as they discuss problem-solving. This allows for more thoughtful and effective problem-solving. Practice pausing in interactions with your children to allow for reflection and emotional regulation. This space enables both parents and children to respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively. Elaine and Diane stress guiding your children through moments of discomfort instead of immediately rescuing them. Welcome to Tech and Teaching Tuesdays! In this episode, we tackle the crucial question: How can you ensure your child's online safety? Join me as I share technology tips tailored for toddlers to teens. We kick things off by acknowledging the expansive digital landscape our kids are growing up in, moving beyond mere screen time management to establish early childhood boundaries. In middle childhood, the focus shifts to fostering critical thinking and online etiquette, utilizing the "Three W's" - Who, What, and Why - as a powerful tool for guiding your child's online behavior. Consider taping these questions as a friendly reminder inside the cover of their tablet or in their playroom. Venturing into adolescence, a time of heightened emotions and rapid changes, we emphasize the significance of open communication and privacy awareness. Creating a digital contract with your teen, as discussed in Episode 12 and reiterated today, becomes a valuable tool outlining expectations, consequences, and fostering collaboration. For those eager to dig deeper into tech safety and communication strategies, check out Episodes 12 and 13 of No Problem Parenting. Additionally, Episode 24 introduces an alternative to screens with Drew Vernon from Tonies.com, offering a screen-free, imagination-building experience for your little ones. Stay tuned for our next episode, where we'll explore the delicate balance of determining the right amount of screen time for your child. Ensuring our children's online safety may be tricky, but putting in the effort early on will save you frustration in the long run. Remember, preparing our kids for the digital world is one of the most important parenting jobs in this digital era. It's the future, and we want to celebrate it more than fear it. Parenting can be very challenging. Taking care of another human being's physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being comes with significant responsibility. Each child has unique needs, and every stage of life presents fresh challenges and a multitude of decisions to make. Amid the complexities of our world, our own personal struggles, and the difficulties we encounter with our children, we can be easily overwhelmed. Maintaining a sense of confidence in our parenting abilities might appear unattainable. Instead of being confident, we can find ourselves doubting our competence and wondering whether we possess the necessary qualities to effectively parent our children. However, God has some encouraging news for uncertain parents. God has not left us to navigate the parenting challenges alone. As Christians, we have what it takes because Jesus lives in us! In this episode, Ross O'Hair and Connie Brezina share how to parent confidently by depending on God's indwelling, empowering, and guiding presence. By choosing to rely on Him in our roles as parents, we discover the secret to Godly, confident parenting. --- Have a question or comment about this podcast? We want to hear from you. It's the New Year! And with the New Year, comes all of the resolutions and goals right? But sometimes (most times) it's hard to get going! Routines get messy during the holidays, and once the New Year rolls around, you're tired. You feel a loss of momentum and just want things to get back to normal. That's why, in this episode, I talk about 4 simple things you can do to regain your focus in 2023. It all starts with picking ONE thing that you want to do this year - just one - and determine what your “why” is for doing that. For me - I want to feel more calm and centered going into this new year. I want to slow down. Maybe you're feeling similarly - or maybe you're feeling motivated to go full speed ahead into 2023! Either way, these 4 tips can help you get there. 1. Get curious about new ideas! We hear things over and over again and the tendency is to think “I already know this…” Instead, pause, recognize the thought, but then think - what is something NEW I can learn from this?” 2. Instead of thinking thoughts like “this won't work” or “I can't do that”; think, “how can this work for me” When you ask your brain better questions, it will give you better answers. 3. Don't judge yourself or the things you are doing. Instead, I want you to just observe - get feedback. Whats working? What's not working? This is valuable information that you can use to move forward. 4. Have compassion for yourself. If we want to raise kids who are able to show compassion for themselves - it's going to start with us. It's ok to take a step back and do things a “little less perfect”. We can show our kids that it's okay to try again. Do you want to ad some midday momentum to your week? Emotions can influence our behaviors quite directly. When you are proud of your kids, emotions might help you celebrate and share your joy, and encourage your children to continue on a path to success. When you are ashamed of your kids, they might interfere with your ability to be as supportive as your child needs you to be. What holds Parents Back?DOing things "Right."There's no right or wrong way from parenting.SO many different ways. "I'm going to try this . . . "Trust that you are doing things exactly how they should be.Being afraid of doing it wrong will paralyze you. This leads to disappointment and regret. The "Wrong Way" Can Totally Be the "Right Way!"No matter what, you can turn tough parenting moments into powerful parenting moments. You don't have to be perfect. Just do your best!Wanting Your Teen To Like YouI don't know if my teen likes me or not. I'm just going to make sure that I like them. This will help you make better choices. Remind yourself that you've never done this before. You can't control whether or not your teen likes you. Parenting Ways of Being Wanting to BE "Right" will disconnect you with your teen.BEing the learner will help to connect you. My Kid is a Great Kid, AND . . . Helps you realize that nothing has gone wrong. My teen can fail math, AND they can still be successful. My teen can have a messy room, AND it's okay. This will help you limit catastrophizing. We also talk about early attachment, being ready and available, figure out what we need as a person and then work towards balance, mirror to children, setting boundaries, but also allowing emotions to be expressed safely, and most importantly that you don't actually need to be Mary Poppins: it's about feeling good enough.Bethan's details:Free guide 5 Steps To Calmer Parenting - 5 Steps to Calmer Parenting (kartra.com),Instagram - Bethan O'Riordan (@bethan.oriordan) • Instagram photos and videosFacebook - Calm & Confident Parenting (facebook.com)Website - www.bethanoriordan.comHere are the resources from the Compassionate Mind Foundation - Resources (compassionatemind.co.uk)Mary Welford's details - Dr Mary Welford (cfttherapist.com)Join the adventure: https://linktr.ee/TheBubblingAdventureOn Instagram - www.instagram.com/thebubblingadventure/On Tiktok - https://www.tiktok.com/@thebubblingadventureOn Facebook - www.facebook.com/TheBubblingAdventureOn Twitter - @TheBubblingAdv Hosted on Acast. It never fails. With every new program launch, there is an aura of stress, worry, and fear amongst the participants. Of course, this is exacerbated if it's attached to a competition with a huge cash prize, but it got me thinking about how common it is to stress over minutiae when something substantial is on the line (like, oh, I don't know, $20,000). The most epic shred I've ever created, Buns & Guns, has just launched, and the competition begins in a couple of days (May 24th, 2021). The cash prizes total $41, 500 which is the biggest cash fund I've ever offered. Naturally, this makes people lose their marbles. They all hyperfocus on manipulating as many external (and irrelevant) variables as possible so that their results are good enough to win: are we using UK or US cups? What exact time should I have my protein shake if I'm at work and can only take one break per shift? Can I use a different brand of protein powder? What if I can't do deadlifts because of a back injury? Will my results suffer? How many ml in a US cup, and what if I can't find US cups to measure with for this recipe?” etc... And let me be the first to say I get it. I truly do because I'm the same damn way. I love to control many aspects of my environment because I'm a control freak. But here's a secret: it's not at all realistic, and these little details don't matter. The more we try to control these variables, the more stress we place on ourselves and the worse off we are. And another secret? The winners of my programs are the ones who DO NOT do this. In fact, they do the opposite of this. You'll hear in this episode how past winners tackled my previous shreds—what they did, what they avoided, and how they were able to land in the top .01% of everyone who has ever purchased a Sculpted Vegan shred program. Dayna Ruben's grandmother had nine children in the Caribbean islands, all homebirths. During her pregnancy, she thought about her a lot, and her first son was born on her birthday, where she would have been 100 years old. Dayna felt deeply connected to her ancestors and the groundwork that would lead her through her pregnancies. She incorporated hypnobirthing as a deep way to tap into her subconscious and have the births they desired. Both pregnancies were without issues and concerns. Dayna wanted the pregnancy to follow her own lifestyle choices of minimal to no medication, using Whole Foods, and tuning in to her body's needs.Labor ensued slowly as she started dilating on a Monday and would have her membranes naturally rupture (water break) on Thursday. She took her time to prepare herself to leave. She followed the hypnosis scripts that she had been listening to in her sleep, which allowed her to stay calm despite when her surges (contractions) were 5 minutes apart as they left their home. Dayna arrived at 10 centimeters dilated, and her support team was ready to receive her. Unfortunately, they weren't receptive to her requests, which was frustrating for Dayna. She delivered her baby feeling empowered and knowing she could have done it at home. Her first birth would lead her through a journey of self-discovery and influence her second birth.Having two births grounded in calm and connection to her body, Dayna now supports other birthing persons in achieving a blissful birth experience without fear. You became a parent, thinking that your children would be obedient, respectful, and kind little people who would give you some nurture, respect, and fulfillment. Instead, you discovered that they suck up all your time and energy, and money... often leaving you feeling empty and frustrated. You have become your child's servant, chauffeur, chef, and now (thanks to COVID) their teacher as well. You definitely love your kids, but it feels like no one loves you in return. Something has got to change… and fast.
