I've always said that parenting is “an 18-year-long game,” fully expecting that parenting would markedly diminish after my kids turned 18. Now that I'm parenting a 19-year-old…it turns out parenting DOES change and it ought to diminish, but it's still a thing!Kim Muench coaches parents of “emerging adults,” a new term needed to describe 18-30-year-olds who aren't quite ready to be real adults, apparently. In this interview, we talk about WHY we need both this term and parenting strategies to continue our conscious, intentional parenting beyond age 18.But this podcast isn't just for parents of emerging adults! If you want to set your teens up for adulthood – and since you're here, I'm assuming you do – it starts at least in high school and most likely long before that.Kim and I dig into the pitfalls of becoming your child or teen's friend, screen use at various ages, life skills, problem-solving, and soooo much more. Believe me, you'll need all of it well before your kiddo hits 18.If you want to prepare yourself for the next phase of parenting, and more importantly, prepare your kids to enter adulthood more smoothly, this interview is for you!Thank you to our sponsor Paleovalley! Are you having a tough time talking to your older teen or young adult? If they are living at home with you, how do you deal with setting rules for them? Do you find yourself constantly biting your tongue, or are you in constant conflict with them? There comes a point when your kid starts growing up, and you need to realize they're their own person now. It's like, “Holy crickets! They're in charge of their own life, now!” For parents, this shift to a new kind of relationship with their adult child can be pretty tricky. That's why my guest this week is Parent Coach, Kim Muench. She's the Founder of Real Life Parent Guide. Kim is a Certified Conscious Parenting Coach with the Jai Institute for Parenting, and specializes in working with parents of emerging adults (ages 18-29). In this conversation we talk about setting healthy boundaries as the relationship with your child shifts under your feet. Kim has some solid ideas about how to open up the lines of communication and reconnect with your child. Hint: Much of the work starts with us, the parents. **This is Kim's second time on the podcast. In our first conversation (Episode 117) we talked about her own challenges as a parent which led her to become a parenting coach. In 2008, her oldest son called her from across the country to say he was in trouble… he was failing classes, about to lose his job, and his use of alcohol was totally out of control.

I truly believe that being a parent these days, especially being a great parent, has never been more difficult, largely because of smartphones in our teenagers hand. They are being influenced by people on social media. They're being cyber bullied. They're comparing their life to others. It's been well documented that teenage depression is at an all time high. To talk about that today, Kim Muench, a Real Life Parent Guide.
Do you ever struggle with how to relate or show up with your children? If you are a parent and you feel that your relationship with your kids is not what you want it to be, Kim Muench has some great suggestions. December 20, 2022 ~ Kim Muench, Certified Parenting Coach & Founder of the Real Life Parent Guide tells Chris & Sean some Gen Z's are refusing to teach their kids about Santa Claus because they claim it's traumatizing.
If you are a parent… today's episode is for you. If you have feelings of guilt and shame about the kind of parent you've been you are definitely not alone. I don't know a single parent who doesn't question themselves and wonder if they are doing right by their kids. Kim Muench is a Parenting Coach who specializes in working with mothers of adolescents ages 10 and up and young adults. Kim is passionate about educating and supporting her clients to raise their children with intention and guidance rather than fear and control. She's a mother of 5 children and was inspired to do the work she's doing today because she herself had a crisis moment with her oldest son that led her to learn how the parent/child relationship really works and slowly made her own well-being a priority.
Our guest today, Kim Muench wrote a book titled "Becoming Me While Raising You-A Mother's Journey to Herself" Which exactly describes my relationship with my 2 teenage daughters at the moment. I have wanted to be the perfect mother for my daughters, I mean, that's how I roll. But, you know...its frustrating when you do so much and, yet the struggles still exist. Kim notes that moms are the emotional barometer for their families. Sometimes it becomes evident that the stress and anxiety moms put into being "perfect" is the very thing that creates the same stress/anxiety in our personal relationships. Our conversation with Kim today speaks into the journey that moms are on and the lessons we learn as we mature as parents and as women. The more I have conversations with our guests, the more I realize the ongoing work I need to do on MYSELF and how THAT (in itself) will transform my relationships with those I love the most. I need to stop being what I think other people want me to be and just BE ME. And, while I thought I knew who that was, I'm realizing more and more that I'm still figuring it out! Today Kim helps us unpack our own limiting beliefs about ourselves so we can live more authentically. A limiting belief I have is that I have to be perfect to be loved. And honey...perfect doesn't exist. In this episode, we discuss:

Today Kim helps us unpack our own limiting beliefs about ourselves so we can live more authentically. A limiting belief I have is that I have to be perfect to be loved. And honey...perfect doesn't exist. In this episode, we discuss: Acknowledging where we fail as parents, and reminding ourselves not to get stuck in the space where we blame ourselves for our children's behaviors and choices. Staying in that space is not productive. Past trauma (big T or little t) can impact our current behavior tremendously and become our limiting beliefs such as "I don't matter" or "I don't have a voice" The definitions of helping vs. enabling. Helping is giving assistance to someone when they can't do it for themselves. Enabling is doing something for someone else that they can/should do for themselves and then a resentment is formed. Our children come through us and not for us, except for the lessons they reflect to us during their journey in an effort to grow us up along the way. The 4 essential questions to uncover limiting beliefs and shift them into beliefs that better serve your relationship to yourself and to those you love the most. What do I believe about myself? Where did that thought/belief come from? Is it true? If it's not true, what is? Kim's book (published in 2021, Becoming Me While Raising You) was written on the six limiting beliefs she took on in her childhood that played out over and over again in her marriage and parenting until she discovered the 4 critical questions and peeled back the layers of truth to reveal new, healthier beliefs that she now practices everyday. EPISODE 61 - We talk all things parenting with our guest Kim Muench Author of Becoming Me While Raising You – a Mother's Journey to Her SelfKim's mission is to help Moms unlock their inner wisdom so they can be the calm, confident guide their children deserve. In May 2008, I went through the greatest parenting challenge of my life. The eldest of my five children called me from across the country to say he was in trouble…he was failing classes, about to lose his job, and his use of alcohol was totally out of control. At the time he was twenty years old. When I answered his call for help, I didn't waste time wondering how it had happened or ask myself, “Why me?!” I knew the way I had parented him and was parenting, contributed to the life-threatening situation he was in and one that I could no longer deny. During his spiral through the darkness, I worked with my son to help him find long term sobriety by supporting and encouraging him but never doing for him what he could do for himself. It wasn't easy, all the while my energy and focus were on discovering and understanding where things between he and I, actually myself and all of my children, could be different/better/healthier/more connected. I knew any change in our relationship started with me. And, to this day, it continues with me. So I began to educate myself on how the parent/child relationship really works, in tandem, I slowly made my own physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being a priority. That included parenting in a completely different light! Today my kids range from teen to married and my son is more than a decade sober. In my journey to redefine my role as a mom who would guide, instead of trying to control my kid's choices and behavior, one who would work hand-in-hand with them instead of trying to dominate the relationship, I was led to research dozens of parenting, self-discovery, and personal growth books and courses. My quest prompted me to return to college to finish a degree in psychology, and it led me to an internship where my greatest responsibility was supporting and encouraging other parents who had teens in outpatient addiction treatment. In addition, my path has led me to write a soon-to-be-published memoir about my experience as a mother with a child in the throes of addiction called Becoming Me While Raising You – A mother's journey to her self. Ultimately, my journey took me to a certification in parent coaching through the Jai Institute for Parenting because I believe the quality of the relationship between ourselves and our children is the essence of what it will take to create positive change in the world, not only during our lifetime but for future generations as well. https://reallifeparentguide.com/___Affiliate book Link: Becoming Me While Raising You, A Mother's Journey to Her Self___https://livingthenextchapter.com/podcast produced by: https://truemediasolutions.ca/Start your podcast today! Kim Muench is a woman over the age of 50 who is pursuing her life's dream. It's a constant around the world that nobody knows what they're getting into when they first become parents. Parenting problems pop up everywhere and it's exhausting at times, trying to maintain a decent relationship with your teen while still being an authority figure. So when our teens are struggling or lashing out or having issues, we tend to assume that they're the problem. Sometimes they are—but sometimes they're not. Parenting coach Kim Muench joins Mighty Parenting podcast host Sandy Fowler to discuss how our own limiting beliefs about ourselves may have influenced how we parent our children, how focusing solely on behavior can create power struggles, and how we can alter our parenting style to parent with our kids instead of over them. Certified parenting coach and the founder of the Real Life Parenting Guide, Kim Muench, talks about the growing popularity of "nacho parenting" when it comes to what role step parents play in kids lives.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Kim, a parenting coach through the Jai Institute for Parenting who believes the quality of the relationship with our children is what creates positive change in the world. As a mom of children, now 17 to 34 she speaks into what it is like parenting teens, things we can do to help ensure our children are well grounded, any signs we should look out for, what is normal at this age, and how we can stay connected.-As a mom of two teen boys (16 & 14), I'd love to know if you have any tips for what we can do now to try to help ensure they are on a path to being a healthy and well grounded adult?-The teenage years are tough, and I'm noticing a pulling away that is occurring which I keep saying is them finding their independence. How can we identify what is healthy and unhealthy in regards to this?-Thoughts on what we can do to stay connected to our children through these years? You can find Kim on her website: Home | Real Life Parent Guideon FB at: (2) Real Life Parent Guide | Facebookor on TikTok: Kim Muench (@kimmuenchparentcoach) TikTok | Watch Kim Muench's Newest TikTok Videos

Today I'm interviewing Kim Muench, a certified parenting coach and the founder of the Real Life Parent Guide, and the author of the recent book, Becoming Me While Raising You: A Mother's Journey to Her Self.In May 2008, Kim Muench received a call from the eldest of her five children, twenty-year-old son Nick, who confessed that his life was being destroyed by alcohol abuse. During his spiral through the darkness, Kim worked with her son to help him find long-term sobriety. But she knew that he was not the only person who needed to change. So, while she partnered with her family in her son's recovery, she also began to make her own physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being a priority. Knowing parenthood was her greatest role, Kim sought to uncover the limiting beliefs she had developed in childhood that were infecting the relationships she'd built with those she loved the most. Kim made a conscious choice to parent in a different light.Kim's amazing story will challenge and inspire you.We discuss how our childhoods impact the way we parent our own kids. How we formed core beliefs that limit us and our kids. How hard it is to watch our kids struggle and not enable them. And the growth that can come from their struggle. The importance of connecting with ourselves and our own inner wisdom. And so much more good stuff!!Kim's book: Becoming Me While Raising You: A Mother's Journey To Her Self - https://amzn.to/3sYyLsNKim's Website: https://reallifeparentguide.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kimmuench.reallifeparentguideInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/kimmuenchreallifeparentguide/

Kim Muench is a certified parent coach and a mother of five from Dallas, Texas. She loves to meditate a couple of times a day and walk six to eight miles with her husband. She also enjoys writing, talking to people and learning their stories. Today she talks about her parenting journey after discovering that her eldest son suffered from alcohol addiction. A favorite quote shared: “And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” – Anais Nin Kim became a single mom at 18 and when her son was 3, she met her husband and eventually had four more children. Kim's eldest, Nick, went through some mental health issues and counseling as a teen; and when he was 20, Kim received what she calls her parenting wake up call. Nick called and told her that he didn't remember the last three days of his life because he'd been on an alcohol binge, it wasn't the first time and he needed help. That was the heart breaking moment she had to admit the reality of her son's struggle. There were a series of challenging circumstances and struggles with her son over the next several years. While going through this time with Nick, she started reflecting more deeply on how she was parenting. What would have been really helpful to her when she was struggling as a single mom and around the same age as Nick? How could she ensure that she was creating healthy relationships with all of her children? Kim's biggest takeaway is that our children come to us not for us, except for the lessons they reflect to us during their journey. That's what she discovered in the worst, darkest moments of her son's addiction. She had to let go of the need to control exactly what was going to happen to him, and detach from the outcome. She had to support and encourage, but not enable him. Today, Kim helps parents look within themselves to figure out the limiting beliefs that their children's behavior may be triggering in them; and to regain the confidence in their parenting that they've lost. She will also be launching a book that you need to check out! It's called “Becoming Me While Raising You: A Mother's Journey to Self”. Alright you guys, I’m throwing somewhat of a curveball at you today. I am going to have a few interviews sprinkled throughout the rest of 2020 that are a part of a series I am calling “Overcomer”. These are stories of women who have overcome something big in life, that could have broken them...but it didn’t - and instead they have figured out how to put their feet on solid ground and do things differently for their children or found a way to be a light to others enduring the same thing. These stories range from emotional abuse, to teen mothers, to mothers of children with disabilities and everything in between. These episodes are kind of bonus episodes so you may see an extra one of these episodes pop up every now and again. Meaning there will be 2 LTM episodes in a week potentially. I had this idea because I feel like we are all battling something. And I only have the perspective that I have. So I wanted to bring in women who have gone on a journey through something really hard and came out on the other end. I’ve done this to 1. Give hope to anyone who finds themselves in similar shoes. And 2. To give women a platform to share their stories. And what an honor it has been. ------------ Our first guest in the Overcomer series was a teen mom who was pressured to not keep her baby but instead chose to raise her son. The relationship with her son's father was unhealthy and when her son was 3 she finally left after a series of intense circumstances. This is a story of grit and grace, addiction, and redemption, and the power of a mother’s love. On this week’s episode of Around Flower Mound, we’re joined by special guest Kim Muench, a Jai Institute for Parenting Certified Coach specializing in working with moms of adolescents. Kim is a firm believer that moms are the emotional barometers in their families and is passionate about educating, supporting, and encouraging them to raise their children with intention and guidance, rather than fear and control.
"Our children come through us, not for us, but for the lessons they reflect to us, during their journey, in an effort to grow us up along the way." When we were young we were told that children should be seen and not heard. Now - as parents ourselves, we are told that our children's needs are paramount. Somewhere along the line we have missed out! We are often told to trust our gut, our intuition. But how can we trust it (or even hear it) if we have not yet discovered who we truly are ourselves? Through having years of putting other's needs first, and not having a voice, many of us struggle to follow our own instincts; and yet Kim and I are in agreement that it is on our instinct that we must rely as parents - because we know our family's needs the best. In this episode Kim and I explore the importance of hearing that inner voice and sometimes, relinquishing control. As parents, it's scary to drop the reins - but by allowing our children to lead the way in their own lives, we set ourselves up for more connection and less confrontation. Whilst listening to our own heart we must teach our children to do the same; and with that comes the likelihood of things not always going according to plan - and that's totally OK! ~~~~~ Kim Muench (pronounced minch, like pinch with an “m”) is a Jai Institute for Parenting Certified Parent Coach who specializes in working with parents of adolescents (between 10-25 years of age). What Do You Need? A simple question inspires The Turquoise Cart Program at Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. In this episode of The Turquoise Table, host Kristin Schell speaks with Kim Muench, a volunteer program coordinator at Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Kim began her Turquoise Table journey by placing her own Turquoise Table in her front yard. Unfortunately, this was met with resistance by her Homeowners Association, and, despite Kim’s efforts to convince them otherwise, they would not allow her to keep her table in the front yard. Still determined to create community in her neighborhood, Kim began a tradition of bringing her Turquoise Table from the back yard to the front yard one Friday night per month. Each month, between three and seven families join hers to play games on the street and socialize. Kim hopes that even more families will join them, and that her community will continue to grow. However, bringing out her Turquoise Table once a month wasn’t enough for Kim. She brought the idea of placing a table at Cook Children’s Hospital to her boss, who told her it wasn’t feasible. However, Kim and her boss came up with the idea of turquoise carts: rolling hospitality carts that go from room to room serving parents. When children are in the hospital, parents often forget to take care of themselves. The children receive constant attention, but parents often lose themselves in the care of their children. Kim wanted to start The turquoise Cart Project to serve and uplift these parents. To jumpstart the project, Kim asked all the parents who had children in the hospital: “what do you need?” This simple but powerful question rendered all the information she needed to pursue her idea of the turquoise carts. Kim is grateful for the impact the project has already made, and encourages listeners to create their own Turquoise Table missions wherever they are. The Turquoise Table calling is not limited to a front yard picnic table. As Kim has proven, it can be manifested anywhere that there are people to be served and community to be created.
