Produced by Joseph Cottrell, Jeffrey Crecelius and Ken Fuller This week's episode is a rather visual one so you will probably want to listen after (or concurrently with) looking at the images below. Mark and I discuss some of the most instantly identifiable (for Yes fans) images which don't include the name of the band. We start off with a quiz for Mark using the first set of images below and then we head off down Yes, Jon Anderson, Roger Dean and some other associated rabbit holes. All of this was kicked off for me by the tiny, circular icons on the inner gatefold sleeve of Tales from Topographic Oceans and I posted this photo of Instagram: It's one of those 'in the weeds' episodes so I hope you find it entertaining! The images I tested Mark with: All images from Discogs What are those little icons on the sleeve of Tales all about? You is the Vitruvian Man? What is the Olias symbol? Produced by Joseph Cottrell, Jeffrey Crecelius and Ken Fuller This week we spoke to the generous Peter D'Amore, the longtime Yes fan who spent 7 years making his own ‘Olias' album, an indie/Prog 2-CD project. We talk about his music, his Yes influences and many aspects of the band including the latest album and the setlist that was played on the warm-up night a couple of days ago. I've embedded several of Peter's YouTube videos into the show notes including his recent collaboration with Billy Sherwood, so do take a listen to those. How did Peter discover Yes? How did Peter miss out on playing live with the band? Why is Yes so important to him and his wife? Let us know if you agree with us! A real Immortal of the rock n roll pantheon joins Christian for a career breakdown, as well as a focus on new material including a rare political song. Jon Anderson the voice of Yes is the guest on this episode of Deeper Digs!Jon Anderson is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable voices in progressive rock as the lead vocalist and creative force behind Yes. Anderson was the author and a major creative influence behind the ground-breaking album Fragile as well as the series of epic, complex pieces such as “Awaken”, “Gates of Delirium” and especially “Close to the Edge” which were central to the band's success. Additionally, Anderson co-authored the group's biggest hits, including “I've Seen All Good People”, “Roundabout”, and “Owner Of A Lonely Heart”.Never to stand still musically, he is getting ready to release an album he started 28 years ago through Blue Élan Records. The album's title, 1,000 Hands is a reference to the fact that numerous guest musicians perform on the album, including Ian Anderson, Billy Cobham, Jean-Luc Ponty, Steve Morse, Chick Corea, Zap Mama, Chris Squire, Alan White, Steve Howe and many more. This album, produced by his friend Michael Franklin, really speaks to the power of a musical life still in the throes of a fervent artistic endeavor, always wanting new experiences in music, always wanting to surprise the listener. The album comes out on July 31, 2020 and will be offered on deluxe double gatefold vinyl, CD, and through all digital platforms. In the mid 70's he created a pure solo album, in every sense of the word: performing all the music, playing every instrument, writing a storyline, and of course singing all the vocals in the critically acclaimed Olias of Sunhillow… a milestone in recording and adventurous creativity. You only need to look at his output of solo albums over the years to see how inventive his life in music has been, from Animation to Song of Seven, Three Ships to Toltec, City of Angels to The More You Know, to name just a few. All of these albums marked his own progression and adventure through music…leading up to 2009 following his near death, the release of the life affirming album Survival and Other Stories. In Jon's words: “Music is our spiritual connection to the soul, that's why people all over the world connect to Music and to each other through Music.”1000 Hands, a new album long in the making. The album originates from sessions for a project to have been called Uzlot (a northern English pronunciation of "us lot") that Anderson had been recording in Big Bear, California, with Brian Chatton in around 1990. Chatton wrote most of the music, played keyboards and also sang. Anderson asked his then Yes bandmates Chris Squire and Alan White to play on the project too. At the time, Yes were preparing for a tour and Anderson put the master tapes in his garage and, as he has recounted, gave them very little thought for many years. In 2016, producer Michael Franklin contacted Anderson about using the tapes and finishing the album. Further recordings followed at Solar Studios in Orlando, Florida. Along with some newly written material, the final result is 1000 Hands. As the album title suggests, the album was created with a number of guest performers, including Steve Howe, Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, Brian Chatton, Larry Coryell, Steve Morse, Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain, Vanilla Fudge drummer Carmine Appice, Rick Derringer, the Tower of Power horn section, violinist Jean-Luc Ponty and pianist Chick Corea.https://www.jonanderson.com/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1000_Hands:_Chapter_Onehttps://listen.tidal.com/album/137775169

A real Immortal of the rock n roll pantheon joins Christian for a career breakdown, as well as a focus on new material including a rare political song. Jon Anderson the voice of Yes is the guest on this episode of Deeper Digs! Jon Anderson is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable voices in progressive rock as the lead vocalist and creative force behind Yes. Anderson was the author and a major creative influence behind the ground-breaking album Fragile as well as the series of epic, complex pieces such as “Awaken”, “Gates of Delirium” and especially “Close to the Edge” which were central to the band’s success. Additionally, Anderson co-authored the group’s biggest hits, including “I’ve Seen All Good People”, “Roundabout”, and “Owner Of A Lonely Heart”. Never to stand still musically, he is getting ready to release an album he started 28 years ago through Blue Élan Records. The album’s title, 1,000 Hands is a reference to the fact that numerous guest musicians perform on the album, including Ian Anderson, Billy Cobham, Jean-Luc Ponty, Steve Morse, Chick Corea, Zap Mama, Chris Squire, Alan White, Steve Howe and many more. In the mid 70’s he created a pure solo album, in every sense of the word: performing all the music, playing every instrument, writing a storyline, and of course singing all the vocals in the critically acclaimed Olias of Sunhillow… a milestone in recording and adventurous creativity. In Jon’s words: “Music is our spiritual connection to the soul, that’s why people all over the world connect to Music and to each other through Music.” 1000 Hands, a new album long in the making. As the album title suggests, the album was created with a number of guest performers, including Steve Howe, Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, Brian Chatton, Larry Coryell, Steve Morse, Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain, Vanilla Fudge drummer Carmine Appice, Rick Derringer, the Tower of Power horn section, violinist Jean-Luc Ponty and pianist Chick Corea. https://www.jonanderson.com/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1000_Hands:_Chapter_One https://listen.tidal.com/album/137775169

Today's guest on Guards of Eden is someone who I've always valued his time and insight in Tambo Silavwe. Tambo has his own drama production company in Flourish as well as coaching people to help them with presentations and meetings. I met him through his work with a men's mental health platform called Mentality and instantly learned that Tambo's humour, sensitivity and wisdom was engaging and rare. We speak about how he was born in Zambia as well as his move to London with his mum and brothers. Growing up, Tambo's passion for drama and acting grew to the point where he was putting on his productions at De Montfort University in Leicester, which would lead to the early stages of Flourish. The work that Tambo does now to help people find their voices, whether that's on stages with Flourish, in meeting rooms for his work or in conversations with Mentality, Tambo empowers people to speak and live their truth. Song of Seven Produced by Jeffrey Crecelius, Wayne Hall, Preston Frazier and Bill Govier The huge news this week is certainly the 2020 UK tour announcement including the fact that the band will be playing the whole of Relayer which is something fans, not least us here on the YMP, have been hoping for for a long time. Mark and I will be talking quite a bit about what this news means in our Two Pence later it the episode. Before that, we are completing our look at what Jon Anderson did as soon as he left Yes in 1980 which means listening to Song of Seven and seeing what we think of it now. Listen and let us know what you think! Were you expecting Jon's second solo album to be Olias 2?If so were you upset? What's this album like though? A double-vinyl edition will be released on 14th February. The album features stunning artwork by the legendary Roger Dean. Live In England, the fourth album release by the duo Geoff Downes and Chris Braide, is their first live album, recorded at their first ever concert at Trading Boundaries, East Sussex, on 28th September 2108. Whilst DBA was conceived as a studio project, the concert was a great success and features material from the DBA albums Suburban Ghosts (2015) and Skyscraper Souls (2017) together with tracks from Geoff Downes’ time with Buggles and Asia. Geoff Downes (keyboards), Chris Braide (vocals) and Andy Hodge (bass guitar), were joined on stage by David Colquhoun (guitars) and special guest Big Big Train’s David Longdon (vocals, flute). The show was narrated by Barney Ashton Bullock. Geoff Downes commented: “It was a most memorable evening, last September, at the iconic Trading Boundaries venue and we believe we have managed to capture the magic of the whole night. Chris and I were supported by some amazing musicians – Andy Hodge, Dave Colquhoun and David Longdon and narrated by Barney Ashton Bullock. As well as songs from our albums we have added some extra special treats and we hope it gives a rare insight into the special songwriting and production relationship Chris and I have developed over the last decade on the journey that is DBA.“We sincerely hope you enjoy the music with us, from this very special occasion, in a raw and live setting, and we thank you for all your support." Chris Braide says: “After many requests for DBA to perform live, Geoff and myself, along with the excellent musicianship of Andy Hodge, Dave Colquhoun, David Longdon, Barney Ashton Bullock, finally took to the stage for the first time at the stunning Trading Boundaries. It was a wonderful evening surrounded by friends and the beautiful English countryside and this live album is a great document of that magical evening and encapsulates what DBA is all about.” The full track-listing is: CD1 Prelude Skyscraper Souls Machinery Of Fate Live Twice Vanity Suburban Ghosts Bolero / Video Killed The Radio Star Glacier Girl Angel On Your Shoulder CD2 Tomorrow Lighthouse Skin Deep Darker Times Finale Heat Of The Moment The Smile Has Left Your Eyes Dreaming Of England DVD Prelude Skyscraper Souls Machinery Of Fate Live Twice Vanity Suburban Ghosts Bolero / Video Killed The Radio Star Glacier Girl Angel On Your Shoulder Tomorrow Lighthouse Skin Deep Darker Times Finale Heat Of The Moment The Smile Has Left Your Eyes Dreaming Of England You can pre-order the album here: https://geni.

What's the difference between the sheep found in art and real sheep? In a sheep bell rich melange, we go in hunt of the real thing, with sheep farmer, author of world best-sellers "Driving Over Lemons" and ex-Genesis member, Chris Stewart, and academic, writer and potential Bo-Peeper Alexandra Harris. Those famous shepherds watching their flocks by night were, of course, following in a great tradition - guarding sheep, leading them to pasture, and then probably killing their babies - just like Able, the first shepherd. From ancient times, the shepherd and the sheep they care for, have been the most consistent of rural sights - they appear in poetry, plays and painting, inaccurately, romanticised, and highly symbolic. The closest Alexandra Harris has been to real sheep has been wandering past a few woolly bundles on the South Downs. She is, of course, more familiar with the Pastoral in art - from the Greek idyll to Shakespeare's 'A Winter's Tale'. To her - "shepherding suggests knowing the real facts of life, wisdom of all time coming down through the ages". Chris Stewart, who left the UK 25 years ago to pursue a new life as a shepherd in Spain, has 40 plus years of shepherding under his belt. He is more than familiar with the sheep's ways - their smells, herd mentality, incontinence and vulnerability. He knows how to feed one, find one and kill one, when necessary, although he still loves them dearly. To help Alexandra get to grips with the reality of the pastoral life Chris suggests 'Get your own flock of sheep and become a shepherdess....' Enter Paco - hardy Alpujarran mountain shepherd, bachelor and philosopher - although when asked what he thinks about whilst watching his flocks all day, he can only answer 'No, pienso nada!'
