In this installment of The Bankers' Bookshelf - guest and host roles mix in a discussion exploring the transformation of banking in the platform economy, focusing on embedded finance and conscious banking. Banks are shifting from traditional product-centric models to value-added services, leveraging data to offer personalized, outcome-driven solutions, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The conversation with Panagiotis Kriaris also highlights the importance of advisory platforms, where banks help clients make informed decisions, shifting value from products to relationships. Examples like Amazon show how transparency and data enablement can drive trust and engagement, shaping the future of banking through technology and customer-centric strategies. “Banks and Fintech on Platform Economies: Contextual and Conscious Banking” is the chosen work of the month, written by #BBE's resident host, Paolo Sironi. This week 2x 66kg IPF Open World Champion Panagiotis “Pana” Tarinidis joins Eric Helms on Iron Culture to discuss the state of modern powerlifting. The two of them recently joined legends, phenoms, leaders and top thinkers of the sport like John Haack, Greg Nuckols, Lya Bavoil and others at the 2024 European Powerlifting Conference in Limerick Ireland. The existence of such events is emblematic of powerlifting's growth, but so too is just how competitive IPF powerlifting has become. At 2024 IPF Worlds the podium for the 66kg class was decided by bodyweight, as all three men had identical totals. In this interview Pana shares what it takes to stay in the fight in modern powerlifting, how hard it is to vie for a championship title when the competition is so tight, and the mindset, passion, and focus it requires.

He was born in Smyrna and from a young age he learned to play the mandolin. In the early 20th century became a member of the Smyrneiki Estudiantina. In 1924, he became director of the local annex of Odeon Records. He worked with all the major record labels in Greece and was responsible for most recordings of the era. Anestis Delias or Anestos Delias (Greek: Ανέστης Δελιάς 1912 – 31 July 1944) was a Greek bouzouki player, composer and singer of rebetiko, also known with the nicknames Anestaki (Ανεστάκι) or Artemis (Αρτέμης). Delias real surname was Delios (Δέλιoς). He was born in Smyrna and had two younger sisters. His father Panagiotis, who was a shoemaker and a noted santuri player, taught him to play the guitar. After the end of the Greco-Turkish war of 1919–1922, Delias and his family moved to Greece and settled at Drapetsona. Having lost his father in the destruction of Smyrna, Delias worked in many different jobs to support his family. Delias was a very talented musician who by the early 1930s had moved on to play the bouzouki and baglamas. In 1934, together with Yiorgos Batis, Stratos Pagioumtzis and Markos Vamvakaris, he founded the rebetiko quartet, I Tetras i Xakousti tou Peiraios (Greek: Η τετράς η ξακουστή του Πειραιώς, literally Piraeus' famous quartet). This quartet influenced subsequent generations of musicians and composers. Delias did not produce any recordings during the Metaxas dictator regime that had been established in 1936 since, like many artists of the time, he refused to accept any censoring of his songs. In 1937, he was introduced to heroin by a prostitute and became addicted. He was later convicted of drug use and was expelled to the island of Ios,where in 1938 he met Michalis Genitsaris. When Delias returned to Athens, his friends Pagioumtzis and Bayianteras tried to help him abstain from drugs but without success. Eventually, he increased his daily heroin dose and was unable to perform or work as a result. He was found dead from a heroin overdose on the morning of July 31, 1944. According to other sources, Delias died in 1941. He was the only rebetiko artist to die from drug use.Vamvakaris once said that Delias was "an angel thrown in trash". Panagiotis Dimitrakis: Our man in Vienna... with TRE´s Giles Brown
In the first episode of The IcePod, season 2, we talk to Lasse Rabenstein and Panagiotis Kountouris. They run the start-up Drift+Noise Polar Services, which could potentially become the ‘one-stop solution for ice information'. "If I were the captain of a fishing vessel sailing north of Svalbard..." – In this episode, Lasse and Panos tell us about their start-up company, which primarily aims to support shipping activities in polar regions fjnd a safe path through the ice. To that end, they are developing products such as an app that integrates various information, such as satellite data and ice-drift forecasts, to provide users with an easy-to-use solution, "so that the data speaks to you", Panos says. While a forecast is always subject to uncertainty, users need a truly accurate forecast; for them "the perfect product is a perfect forecast", he adds. However, "on a ship in the Arctic, you can still feel like you're back in the 1990s", says Lasse – low bandwidth is one of the issues Drift+Noise is trying to solve with its service. As an intermediate provider that passes information from data providers to end users, there is a need to take care of customers – communication and user feedback are key to further improving the company's products. "And… it's really important to educate people by showing them what the innovations are", the company partners add. "Especially the new generations of captains and ice pilots will appreciate getting any information they need to run their operations." Here's the playlist from Lasse: - Der Traum ist aus - Ton Steine Scherben - Child in Time - Deep Purple - Alles muss man selber machen lassen - Deichkind - Nordisch by Nature - Fettes Brot - Verdächtig - Systemabsturz - Feed Your Head - Kalkbrenner The IcePod is produced by the International Coordination Office of the Polar Prediction Project, a project initiated by the World Meteorological Organization to improve weather and sea ice forecasting in the polar regions. There is little doubt that the birthplace of open banking is Europe. As a concept, open banking can be traced to much earlier times, but it was Europe who, in 2015, enacted the first open banking legislation in the form of the PSD2. Fast forward to today, and Europe is reaping the rewards of being the first mover. Thousands of banks and hundreds of fintechs are now leveraging open banking to communicate with each other using common, secure standards, driving an explosion of innovative financial products and services all across the EU. Although Europe seems united behind common legislation, there have still been delays and confusion, and what works for some countries, doesn't necessarily work for others. Todays guest is Panagiotis Andreou who’s a friend of mine that I’ve known since college at Berklee College of Music. Panagiotis is one of the most unique and expressive musicians I know and besides being one of my favorite bassists to listen to, he’s one of my favorite people to talk to. He’s played with people like New York Gypsy All Stars, Gonzalo Grau, and he’s also a member of the trio Now-VErsus-Now which is a trio that also features Jason Lindner on keyboards and Justin Tyson on Drums.I caught up with him a few weeks into the shelter in place and he’s how that conversation went.

Panagiotis Michalatos on the luxury of choosing to be simple and the emerging trend of simplicity, the power of intuition, questioning our creative interfaces and workflows, and his love for screens. Pan Michalatos is an architect, lecturer in architecture technology at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and a Principal Research Engineer at Autodesk. Between 2006 and 2010 he worked as a computational design researcher for the London-based structural engineering firm AKT. Along with colleague Sawako Kaijima, Pan provided consultancy, and designed computational solutions, for a range of high-profile projects. They have also developed a range of software applications for the intuitive and creative use of structural engineering methods in design. Simplicity is an emerging trend; a luxury not everyone can afford. For the last 10,000 years, human biology has barely changed — yet our lives feel more complex, accelerated, and stressful than ever before. What are we trying to slow down from? Favorite quotes "I don't think there is such a thing as a simple life." "You need to have the luxury to choose to simplify your life." "Everything [including art] has utility for the fact that it is being done." "There is a misconception: that our lives have accelerated. […] But for someone 10,000 years ago, [life] would be an equally constant state of stress." "Screens are constructed, by accident or intentionally, to be stared at. You don't have a problem focusing on the screen. The problem is looking away from it." "We are trying to create tools and workflows for designers that incorporate all the knowledge [existing in other disciplines] to be directly accessible and usable." "Software is seen as a way to package knowledge in a usable (and mobile) form, to distribute it." "The other people. That's the challenge." "We try to find drives to keep us distracted from the fact that we're all gonna die." This mix means a lot to me personally. It was originally recorded in 2002, and there was a specific reason that this mix was made. All in all, it is a very personal journey through my emotions and also one of my favorite mixes of all time. I have heard this mix countless times, and it still holds up incredibly strong. I hope that you will also get something out of this mix, and even though I know the story it paints for me will not be the same story it paints for you, I hope that by the end of listening to this mix, a story does emerge. I know that it is a powerful one for me. -Enjoy
Sounds From the Soul (Circa 2001) Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to dive off the deep end. The Deep end of House music of course. Deep, Soulful, Tribal, Jazzy, and all that good stuff house. This mix was originally released in or around 2001, and after listening to it recently after a long time, I just needed to include it as the next podcast. There are classics on here including: Sade (By Your Side), Kings of Tomorrow (Finally), Larry Heard, and others. Please sit back, relax, and enjoy the smooth sounds of this podcast. The recording made of this mix was not of the best quality, and for that I do apologize. I hope the smooth, natural sounds stimulate your mind, body and soul. Enjoy!
In this Episode, I have decided to post a Live Set which was recorded at Ikon (formerly Exit) in New York City on August 28, 2004. This recording was from the middle portion of my set, and turned out working incredibly well for that night. I truly enjoy this set as one of my best live recorded sets and some of my personal favorite tracks were dropped that night. I hope you enjoy this vintage journey through my world of progressive house.
