“You got your Oscar, which was an unfortunate night for everyone…” - Steve on Will Smith On this week's episode, we're kicking off a two-episode tribute to the legendary Gene Hackman with a convo about the better-than-you-remember surveillance thriller, Enemy of the State! First off, this ain't no sequel to The Conversation, let's get that straight! But you do have an amazingly cranky and paranoid Gene Hackman running around with a nearly never-better Will Smith as they dodge Jon Voight and his stable of late-90's Gen-X character actors! Why was the great Jason Robards uncredited? Same question for Philip Baker Hall! Why couldn't a rocket hit Jamie Kennedy and Seth Green's surveillance van? And how incredible is that effect shot with Jason Lee and the firetruck? PLUS: Brill interrogates the Peanuts Gang! Enemy of the State stars Will Smith, Jon Voight, Lisa Bonet, Regina King, Stuart Wilson, Barry Pepper, Ian Hart, Jake Busey, Scott Chan, Jason Lee, Gabriel Byrne, James Le Gros, Dan Butler, Jack Black, Jamie Kennedy, Bodhi Elfman, Anna Gunn, Lillo Brancato, John Capodice, Ivana Milicevic, Grant Heslov, Seth Green, Philip Baker Hall, Jason Robards, Tom Sizemore, and the late, forever great, Gene Hackman as Brill; directed by Tony Scott. You know, when most people think of the Peanuts gang, they picture simple joys: Snoopy doing his happy dance, Lucy yanking that football, or Charlie Brown staring existentially at the sky, pondering the futility of life. What people don't picture is a shadowy curse hanging over the kids who voiced these characters. But here we are.Yes, Deados, today we're tackling one of pop culture's weirdest urban legends: the so-called ‘Peanuts Curse.' Now, I know what you're thinking—‘Curse? Really? This isn't The Exorcist, it's Charlie freakin' Brown!' And yet, the lives of many Peanuts voice actors have been marked by tragedy, struggles, or just plain bad luck. It's as if the universe took one look at these kids and said, ‘You know what, it's not enough for Charlie Brown to lose at baseball. Let's make life harder for everyone involved.'So grab your security blanket, brace yourself for a therapy session with Lucy, and join us as we dive headfirst into the offbeat, bizarre, and occasionally heartbreaking world of the Peanuts Voice Cast Curse. Who knows? Maybe by the end of this, we'll find out the Great Pumpkin isn't so great after all.” That's TODAY on Death in Entertainment.Send us a message!Support the showDeath in Entertainment is hosted by Kyle Ploof and Alejandro DowlingNew episodes every week!https://linktr.ee/deathinentertainment

My favorite “to do” app is appropriately named “Microsoft To Do.” There are TONS of ways to track to-dos or tasks (Jeff uses Things) but I don't think of Microsoft To Do as a “task management” app … for me it's a “stress avoider” because it's the easiest way for me to capture a to-do that pops up in my mind before it disappears, and I don't have the STRESS of trying to remember it!I usually add a “Due Date” to an item which simply means that I know that to-do will bubble up on that date, and then I can triage it to either do it or schedule it for another day. A couple of quick tips:1) You can add an emoji to your list name and that's a fun visual cue for your list.2) You can also add “tags” by using the hashtag before a word which turns into a tappable word for bringing up all the related tasks. We wrap up our series with a fond look at Snoopy, the larger than life beagle with delusions of grandeur and no ego boundaries. Possessing the pathos of Charlie Brown without the suffering, the impetuosity of Lucy without the rage, and the depth of Linus without the meekness, Snoopy is the strip's outlet for untrammeled exuberance and the limitless potential of human ingenuity. He embodies the force of imagination that drives faith, the creative power that makes us most like our Creator, and the bonds of hope and goodwill that bind us to all other creatures under heaven.

Van Pelts ahoy! Linus, the gentle thinker and existential philosopher, is always there to comfort Chuck with a bit of wisdom or a snippet of scripture, his ubiquitous blanket and trusty thumb a ready panacea for the anxieties and injustices of this world. On the opposite pole is fuss-budget sister Lucy: crabby, quick to anger, and prone to serving up sarcastic retorts and the odd knuckle sandwich. Lucy exasperates all she encounters and serves as the pragmatic and worldly opposite to both the wishy-washy Charlie Brown and the pacifist dreamer Linus.

The Bad Plus lent us some time to talk about their latest excursion with their most recent addition, the brilliant pianist Orrin Evans. The latest album is titled Activate Infinity and has proven to be yet another creative boon for this prolific band. The music matches the moniker, redefining the concept of the piano trio yet again and working together beautifully. From the opening salvo to the final note, these melodies have anthemic passion and hypnotic charm that will sweep you away, be it the slower tempos or the ones on the upswing. One could say this outing could be the soundtrack to an older, wiser, and well adjusted Charlie Brown and the Peanuts Gang cartoon.  The Bad Plus continue to deliver the goods with originality and an off beat infectiousness that has the urgency of rock-n-roll. Which isn't easy when you're following in the footsteps of giants like Ramsey Lewis, Vince Guaraldi and Allen Toussaint, not to mention contemporaries like Noah Haidu and Cat Toren. Since we're talking about tickling the ivories, the next half of the show will dive into the piano trio game. We're spinning some Ramsey, rockin' a little Toussaint, hearing some Haidu, and more. ABOUT THE MAJOR SCALE: Your attention please to a new program that celebrates and takes a fresh and bold look at the great American art form- JAZZ!!! It's Super Bowl Sunday and I have a great special for you. Unfortunately it's a bitter sweet day in the sports world as the first half of my show is dedicated to Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna Bryant, and the 7 other passengers that passed away due to a helicopter crash last week. However heavy hearted and somber this whole week has been, the show must go on and we must continue to move forward because as competitive as Kobe was, I'm sure he would have wanted it this way. With that being said, I welcome you to the 18th Episode of the Xander Effect and today my special guest is Actor Jeremy Miller from the 80's hit tv show "Growing Pains" and he also was the voice of Linus in "The Peanuts Gang". He joins the broadcast as a Football Correspondent and shares some ideas as to what possible strategy each team may use in order to win the Lombardi Trophy, and his thoughts on the 2020 NFL Draft.I also showcase Dirty Machines new music video "Party in the USA"Plus, which movie is bringing who back from the dead? What player continues to beg for a second chance? Which old gaming company is going into the hospitality business?? All these Questions will be answered along with this week in Entertainment, Sports and Video Game news, as we countdown to kickoff to the Super Bowl, starts right now...**For the Visual Version of this show**Feel free to Subscribe to my youtube channel at:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMWWomMKIRzMWcWRGsJ3zKA?view_as=subscriber**The Xander Effect theme by B. And then we center, most especially, on all things Snoopy from his doghouse decor (a pool table, Wyeths and a Van Gogh . . . ); to his impersonations (from a moose and a pelican to Mickey Mouse); his moments at the typewriter ("It was a dark and stormy night"); his alter-egos (who doesn’t love his WWI flying ace and his battles with the Red Baron?); his "band of brothers" (siblings Spike, Marbles, Olaf, Andy and Belle); and his connection with aviation (from NASA to the U.S. Air Force).
