In this week's episode of Energy Voice Out Loud, Ryan, Mat and Michael discuss Petrofac's recent $500m contract award. Is it what the company, and the North Sea services sector in general, need to turn their fortunes around? Both could do with some good news. And then we heard from Mat, who travelled down to Birmingham this week for the Hydrogen UK annual conference, and spoke to the organisation's chief executive Clare Jackson about how the UK sector has progressed in the past year. And finally, Erikka was at NZTC's Net Zero Innovation show in Aberdeen and spoke to Mark Anderson, chief acceleration officer at the Net Zero Technology Centre, Paul Pirrie, co-founder of show exhibitor and TechX program graduate Myriad Wind Energy Systems, North Sea legend and UK Technology Platform director Colin Black and last but definitely not least Paul Addison, director of policy and external affairs for GB Energy.

Here we look at a missed opportunity to avoid the death of 49 people in an NBTC accommodation fire last year in Mangaf, Kuwait. The missed opportunity was in the firing of a worker in 2017 for calling an ambulance in response to an H2S gas poisoning at GC-30 in the North Kuwait Asset. Instead, he could have been listened to for stating that people are punished for speaking up about safety issues. NBTC, Amec Foster Wheeler, Petrofac and the Kuwait Oil Company could then have changed their safety practices. One is invited to wonder if the building fire killing 49 people 7 years later in 2024 would not have occurred if this change had occurred. We will have one more episode on Kuwait, then move on to Qatar and London, UK.

Christmas is just around the corner, or maybe it's too early for that kind of chat. Regardless, Ryan has decided to dawn his most garish festive shirt, it's as ugly as it is cheap. However, this is not a Christmas-themed podcast so the Energy Voice trio reluctantly discuss share prices, offshore wind investment and North Sea licences.   Allister kicks off the on-topic discussion by diving into Petrofac's share price woes soon after the firm saw values drop by as much as 50%. With low staffing levels for such a big firm and disappointing reports as of late, maybe this isn't the work of those ever-pesky stock shorters.   Masdar has been splashing the cash at COP 28 with some serious investment in UK offshore wind, Ed explains. The firm looks to secure 100GW of power and turning its attention to the UK will push it towards these goals. However, there are still issues to contend with in the wind space to be considered.    Finally, Ryan talks about mass relinquishments of licences in UK waters awarded in 2020's 32nd round, this could be down to the usual gripes oil and gas firms have in the country, namely fiscal uncertainty. Is this going to happen with those licences awarded earlier in the year?  About Energy Voice Energy Voice investigates and reports on what matters in global energy, helping sector leaders understand the geopolitical and economic factors underpinning current events, and giving them a view on what's coming over the horizon. Top 5 Most Read RNS's on Vox Markets for Tuesday 18th April 2023 5. Cineworld Group #CINE - Chapter 11 Update Cineworld announces that, in agreement with its key stakeholders, the Group has decided to terminate the marketing process for its 'Rest of World' business. The Group received proposals for the RoW Business from a number of prospective counterparties, however the proposals did not meet the value level required by the Group's lenders. 4. N4 Pharma #NP4 - siRNA update The Company has completed the single loading of both the EGFR and BCL-2 siRNA nucleotides onto Nuvec and has produced good monodisperse formulations at all doses to be investigated. The single loaded EGFR siRNA has shown strong silencing of the EGFR gene with a good dose response curve established which has allowed the Company to identify the dose it can take into the single loaded EGFR in vivo study. The next step for EGFR is to measure cell apoptosis to show a relevant in vitro clinical effect. 3. IOG PLC #IOG - Drilling Update The H2 well was successfully drilled to the Basal Zechstein sequence. However, while drilling through the Hauptdolomit formation within the Zechstein, an abnormally pressured gas and oil influx was encountered, with associated drilling fluid losses. The risk of such a well control challenge was identified during planning and is being safely managed by Petrofac and Shelf, in collaboration with the IOG team. However, this now looks likely to impact the expected well duration, potentially by up to four weeks, while the associated cost impact will depend largely on the speed of resolution. 2. THG PLC #THG - FY2022 preliminary results & Q12023 trading update Group revenues increased 2.7% to £2,239.2m (FY 2021: £2,179.9m), culminating in 2-year total sales growth of 38.8%. Operating loss of £495.6m, impacted by the non-cash impairment of £275.4m, in addition to certain non-recurring costs which continue to reduce. FY 2023 revenue and adjusted EBITDA expected to be in line with Company consensus. Reiterate Group's expectation of being free cash flow neutral in FY 2023 1. Angus Energy #ANGS - Saltfleetby Sidetrack Well Test Results Based on the results we have concluded that at present, the well is capable of 4-5 mmscfd (Million standard cubic feet per day) at a FWHP of 30 barg flowing into the system with the two other wells. We are expecting the well to clean up further which is likely to raise that flow rate in the future. Whilst producing through a temporary connection, the new well flowline will be constructed to enable full plateau production this summer.

After four years of civil war Syria is all but destroyed. At least 220,000 killed and half of the entire population forced from their homes and still the world's great powers argue over a response.
