Jonathan Adashek is the Chief Communications Officer and Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications at IBM. Before joining IBM, Jonathan was at Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance in Paris, as well as Nissan Motor Co. in Yokohama, Japan, and prior to that had stints at Microsoft and Edelman. One of Jonathan's first roles was as a special assistant at the White House before becoming director of the national delegate strategy for the John Kerry presidential campaign. At IBM, Jonathan leads a team of 800+ professionals in more than 170 countries with responsibility for IBM's global communications, corporate citizenship, and CSR, as well as strategic events and social media. Without further ado, please enjoy this conversation with IBM CCO and SVP of Marketing and Communications Jonathan Adashek. Here are some key takeaways from this conversation with Jonathan. Simplify your message. As a company, IBM has thousands of products, services, and solutions, and prior to Jonathan coming on board, there was an overwhelming amount of different marketing and communications campaigns for these different products. This caused confusion among the general public over what IBM really stood for as a brand. One of Jonathan's first orders of business was to significantly simplify IBM's message into one slogan: “Let's Create.” A brand can only get so much attention which is why it's important not to diffuse your brand's message across a number of separate campaigns. Furthermore, emotional statements like “Let's Create” can transcend product features and benefits and get to the heart of your company's real mission, which is way more effective than focusing on the products. Admit failure early & honestly. Jonathan mentioned committing an epic failure at IBM recently. Instead of blaming someone else, shirking behind it, or attempting some sort of internal coverup, he sent out an all-employee message outlining what had happened while owning up to it. He claimed the experience was more cathartic than scary and set a standard for radical honesty at the company that was unprecedented. Embracing humanity on an executive level with this kind of honesty is the foundation for creating extremely healthy and effective company cultures. Be client zero; practice what you preach. All products and tech solutions conceived of and created by IBM must be used internally as a standard for their creation. Jonathan states that clients and customers will not stand by any other standard. By being client zero, IBM is able to only create products and solutions that they stand by after a lot of trial and error. This ensures a level of trust with customers that simply cannot be bought. Welcome to new Patreon Producer ANDREW ROBERTON JAGUAR LAND ROVER INTEND TO JOIN TESLA'S EU CO2 POOL FOR 2021 - Tesla have found a new partner to join its EU CO2 pool for 2021. British-based and Tata owned Jaguar Land Rover intend to form a CO2 pool with the Elon Musk-run company for 2021, alongside Honda that were part of Tesla's pool last year. - Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) under the shadow of the semiconductor shortage have likely concluded that they are more willing to derail their CO2 compliance targets in order to help their underlying profits from their higher emitting profitable models than sacrifice these in order to meet their compliance targets. - JLR also intend to join the Tesla/Honda UK-only pool for 2021 according to UK government data. - This is the first year UK only CO2 targets – largely carried over from the European system – will be enforced following the transition period which ended at the end of 2020. Last year JLR failed to meet its EU CO2 obligation goal, attributing 35 million GBP to fines for this according to JLR. According to the ambitious "Dealer Community Charging Program," GM and its dealers will work together to expand access to charging in local communities, including in underserved, rural and urban areas where EV charging access is often limited. - Involving dealers in this program is a logical approach seeing as nearly 90 percent of the US population lives within 10 miles (16 km) of a GM dealership, according to the automaker. GM will be giving each of its EV dealers up to 10 Ultium Level 2 destination charging stations and will be working with them to deploy the chargers at key locations throughout their local communities. - these charging stations will be available to all EV customers Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/543214/gm-dealers-40000-ultium-chargers - The "Ultium" brand name of GM's all-new EV platform, propulsion components and charging ecosystem will soon expand to include a family of three Ultium Chargers for residential and commercial use developed with leading vehicle charging specialist CTEK. - The Ultium Chargers will include an 11.5 kilowatt/48-amp smart charger, 11.5 kW/48-amp premium smart charger and a 19.2 kW/80-amp premium smart charger. The two premium models include a customizable touchscreen and an embedded camera. All three Ultium chargers are Energy Star Certified, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Each charger features dynamic load balancing and can be upgraded over time through over-the-air software updates with automatic download capabilities. - To help offset the cost of installing a home charger, customers will be able to roll the price into their GM vehicle financing or leasing plans. A special rule on this was already softened in June due to the lack of available EV models. - Now the situation has apparently worsened due to the electric boom and the chip shortage: Volkswagen just informed its approximately 18,000 managers that electric and hybrid models will “probably not be available for order” as company cars until the end of 2022. NISSAN LEAF WILL BE REPLACED BY ELECTRIC CROSSOVER "Nissan has confirmed that the new electric compact crossover it will build at its Sunderland plant in the UK will replace the Leaf hatchback. In July, Nissan announced plans to build a new crossover in Sunderland as part of a £1 billion ($1.37 billion) investment in the plant to secure its future. Now, Nissan Europe boss, Guillaume Cartier, has confirmed that the new model will be a replacement for the Leaf." reports InsideEVs: "Expected to launch around 2025, the Leaf crossover will be based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's CMF-EV platform that's also used by the Ariya and Megane E-Tech Electric. This means that Nissan's core future model lineup in Europe will be made up exclusively of electrified crossovers: the Juke, Qashqai, Ariya, X-Trail, and the Leaf replacement. The compact crossover will feature Envision AESC's latest battery cells, which will be manufactured in a new battery gigafactory." Through the first eight months of 2021, the marque's battery-powered cars and SUVs made up nearly two thirds of those registered in the US." writes Robb Report: "According to new data from Experian (h/t Inside EVs), 294,218 electric vehicles were sold between January and August. That number only accounts for 2.7 percent of total automobile sales, but represents a 114 percent increase compared to the same period in 2020. And 194,165 of those vehicles were Teslas. That number represents 66 percent of all EVs registered in that time and a 79 percent increase when compared to the same period last year." As for the model split: "Model Y compact crossover (pictured at top): 105,445 of the electric SUVs have been registered in 2021. That number is actually larger than the sum total of non-Tesla EVs sold during this same period (100,053 units)" Read more: https://robbreport.com/motors/cars/tesla-dominates-ev-sales-1234642397/ TESLA Q3 BIGGER THAN VW, BMW, MERCEDES AND MORE "With ~99,000 deliveries, Tesla was able to pass up GMC (97,254), Lexus (81,093), Volkswagen (79,321), BMW (75,619), Mercedes (71,185), and Dodge (49,059). That's 6 major auto brands that Tesla just passed. Of course, it's also worth pointing out here that Tesla has just two main models (Model 3 and Model Y) and the more expensive, limited-production Model S. Imagine what sales could get to with a few more vehicle body styles." says CleanTEchnica: "Tesla's Q3 sales numbers actually put Tesla as the 11th best selling auto brand in the USA. Diess recently reiterated this point in a post on LinkedIn, which emphasized how much savings customers would see if they chose to drive an electric car instead of a gas or diesel-powered equivalent. " reports Simon at Teslarati: "Diess highlighted his point by showing how Volkswagen's electric vehicles are better than the company's own ICE cars. The executive's point was clear: shifting to EVs would save customers money, and Volkswagen's electric cars are better than the company's tried-and-tested ICE lineup. It's difficult not to be impressed by Herbert Diess' consistency, especially when it comes to his stance on electric vehicles. Diess is a longtime EV proponent, and he is largely responsible for Volkswagen's aggressive push into sustainable transportation." He wrote on LinkedIn: "Driving a combustion engine car costs up to 50% more compared to an e-car. The Autozeitung does the math, taking into account all the costs: Driving a VW Tiguan costs around 30% more per kilometer than an ID.4. One kilometer in an Audi Q5 costs around 40% more compared to a Q4 e-tron. And driving a Skoda Kodiaq is around 50% more expensive per kilometer compared to an Enyaq. SWEDEN'S GIGAFACTORY EXPANSION"The Swedish battery manufacturer says it has signed a USD 2.75 billion private placement to finance further battery cell production capacity and R&D efforts. The company is looking to expand its Swedish gigafactory, Northvolt Ett, from 40 to 60 GWh of annual capacity." says evertiq.com: "With this private placement, Northvolt has raised more than USD 6.5 billion in equity and debt to enable an expansion plan leading up to and beyond 150 GWh of deployed annual production capacity in Europe by 2030. In addition, Northvolt has to date secured in excess of USD 27 billion worth of contracts from key customers, including BMW, Fluence, Scania and Volkswagen" Recharge reports: "VW said it is contributing $620m in the financing round, and thus will maintain a 20% stake in Northvolt. The carmaker had already invested about €900m ($1.1bn) in Northvolt in 2019, and has a seat on the battery cell specialist's board of directors. In order to meet its ambitious 2030 capacity target, Northvolt plans to build at least two more gigafactories in Europe over the coming decade, and is actively exploring the possibility of building one of these in Germany, the core of the continent's car manufacturing sector." chief executive Peter Carlsson: "We have been producing cells at our cell industrialisation facility, Northvolt Labs, for more than a year and are excited to now bring the knowledge and technology we have developed to the north and start large-scale production, https://evertiq.com/news/50151 https://www.rechargenews.com/energy-transition/world-s-greenest-battery-vw-backed-northvolt-raises-almost-3bn-for-gigafactory-ramp-up/2-1-1022422 TESLA'S GIGAFACTORY TEXAS MODEL Y MACHINERY IS ALREADY OPERATIONAL"Tesla Inc's Gigafactory Texas is the company's latest vehicle production factory. The equipment is most likely in an initial testing phase as Tesla gets ready to start production." according to Benzinga: "Although the factory is also still under construction, Tesla could begin vehicle production while other areas of the factory are built. In May, hundreds of Model Y front castings were seen piled outside of Gigafactory Texas. This latest video adds to the evidence Tesla is aggressively pushing its schedule to begin Model Y production at Gigafactory Texas as soon as possible. It will be the all-electric Megane E-Vision, based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's CMF-EV platform, utilized also by Nissan in the upcoming Ariya model. The Maubeuge plant is not a newbie to EVs, as it has been making the Renault Kangoo Z.E. with lithium-ion batteries for about 10 years. In 2022, Renault will launch the all-new Kangoo Van E-TECH Electric. We guess that the plant will produce also electric vans for Nissan and Daimler. Vigna's appointment announced on Wednesday shows Ferrari's development strategy remains firmly anchored in manufacturing cutting-edge, high-end sports cars for an electric era, rather than repositioning itself as a pure luxury goods company. It also highlights the challenges facing carmakers as they adapt to the green revolution forcing the industry to move away from combustion engines and embrace new technologies from batteries to connectivity to autonomous driving." https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/ferrari-appoints-stm-exec-benedetto-vigna-new-ceo-2021-06-09/ NEW JERSERY INCENTIVES UNCERTAIN"New Jersey is so eager to get more electric vehicles on the road, the state was literally paying residents to buy them. But that rebate — up to $5,000 in one of the most generous state incentives in the country — expired in December, meaning anyone who bought an EV in the past six months didn't get that benefit. And it's unclear when the program will resume." reports NJ.com: "For months, state officials said they were targeting summer 2021 to again incentivize electric car purchases. But here we are on the cusp of summer, and the restart date has yet to be announced. Combined with the federal tax credit of up to $7,500, EV drivers in the Garden State were getting as much as $12,500 off the sticker price of their cars, depending on the make and model." https://www.nj.com/news/2021/06/nj-wants-to-pay-you-to-buy-an-electric-vehicle-but-it-hasnt-said-when-it-will-resume-doing-so.html GRIDSERVE TAKES OVER THE ELECTRIC HIGHWAY" GRIDSERVE has today completed the purchase of the Electric Highway – the world's first national charging network for electric cars – from green energy supplier Ecotricity. The Electric Highway has played an important role in kickstarting the UK's electric vehicle revolution since it was established in 2011, enabling early adopters of EVs to drive across Britain." says Green Car Reports: " GRIDSERVE is ramping up its investment in the Electric Highway, replacing all existing pumps on the network with new technology that features all the latest advances, including contactless payment. London has the potential to make the biggest single switch to green EVs of all, the research shows, with more than 85,000 making the switch." says the Evening Standard: "Fleet management services and solutions firm Masternaut - owned by tyre giant Michelin - compiled a year's worth of data from 37,252 electric vehicles to discover how and where EVs could provide a real-life replacement to petrol and diesel engined vehicles. The research found that UK fleet operators could replace 40 per cent of their current vehicles with electric alternatives today, with no daytime charging required. This transition from ICE fleets to EVs could reduce harmful emissions by 8.3 million tons of CO2 a year, according to Masternaut." https://www.standard.co.uk/tech/london-vans-electric-vehicles-switch-green-b939571.html TURNING DIESEL INTO ELECTRIC"Five years after the demise of Australian vehicle manufacturing in Adelaide, a growing number of businesses are retrofitting diesel light vehicles into custom electric vehicles (EVs) in Australia for use in underground mines." reports ABC: "Victoria-based mining supplier Safescape began developing its own EV in 2018. GB Auto signed a deal last year to retrofit 2000 LandCruisers into EVs at their facility in Orange, NSW. Zero Automotive manufactures a "whole modular [electric] platform" for their own version in Adelaide. Murray Engineering will start manufacturing electric LandCruisers as well as underground-ready DC vehicle chargers in Pinjarra, WA, later this year. It's pretty well going to be forced upon people to run electric vehicles [underground] because the vent flow in the mine is paramount. If you're counting light vehicles in the vent flow — five diesels and you have to take one truck out so all of a sudden it becomes a big cost issue."" https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-06-09/underground-electric-vehicles-australian-manufacturing/100198802 SOLARWATT TEAMS UP WITH BMW TO LAUNCH MODULAR BATTERY PRODUCT"German PV manufacturer Solarwatt has today (9 June) unveiled a new battery storage product developed in collaboration with BMW. The Solarwatt Battery Flex is a modular storage device, with the system able to expanded from 4.8KWh to 240kWh through the stacking of up to eight battery packs and creation of up to 10 clusters." says Solar Power Portal: "Additionally, the individual components of the Solarwatt Battery Flex weigh no more than 25 kilograms, meaning the storage system can be installed by a single person. Solarwatt is make the AC-1 system available in the autumn. When the Solarwatt Battery Flex system is paired with solar PV and used in conjunction with the Solarwatt Manager Flex intelligent energy management system, it is particularly efficient, with the latter controling and optimising the energy flows in the household and ensuring that as much solar power as possible is consumed in the household itself." [audio] DMV PROBING WHETHER TESLA VIOLATES STATE REGULATIONS"Tesla is “under review” by the California Department of Motor Vehicles to determine whether the electric car maker misleads customers by advertising its “full self-driving capability” option, the agency told The Times." reports Russ Mitchell for The L.A. Times: "A Tesla equipped with the $10,000 full self-driving package can change lanes, take highway exit ramps, and stop at traffic lights and stop signs on its own, the company says. However, it is not capable of fully driving itself, according to widely accepted engineering standards. social media are rife with videos showing drivers, mostly young men, overcoming Tesla’s easily defeated driver-monitoring system to crawl into the back seat and let the Tesla “drive itself” down public highways. If the DMV finds Tesla is misleading customers, potential penalties include suspension or revocation of DMV autonomous vehicle deployment permits and manufacture and dealer licenses, the DMV spokesperson said." https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2021-05-17/dmv-tesla-california-fsd-autopilot-safety STELLANTIS: GOVERNMENTS MUST CONSIDER TRUE COST OF ELECTRIC CARS"Governments must consider the need to keep cars affordable for the masses and the full lifecycle impact of a vehicle when mandating the switch to full electrification. That’s according to Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares, who wants it to be remembered that “the scientific decision on the choice of this technology hasn't been made by the automotive industry”." says Autocar: "Tavares said he was committed to bring in EVs as required by legislation, but even more so on reducing emissions. However, he said that governments mandating purely on tailpipe emissions are missing the bigger picture and driving up the cost of vehicles for consumers. Tavares expects Stellantis’s future manufacturing footprint in Europe to stay the same after the switch to electrification - but failure to do so would lead to “social consequences”, likely restrictions and redundancies." https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry-news-environment/stellantis-governments-must-consider-true-cost-electric-cars VW LEADING BEV SALES IN EUROPE"Taking an ever bigger step back, we’ve got all electric vehicle sales from the overarching brands or groups/alliances — making a comparison of sales from all of their electric models combined gets us to true electric vehicle sales leadership in absolute terms (relative sales leadership, taking into account these companies’ fossil-fuel vehicle sales, is a different matter)." says Zach at CleanTechnica: "Volkswagen Group pulls away even a little more than the Volkswagen brand itself when you look at the stats from this perspective. It stands in a whole different league than the rest of the pack. Looking at the first 4 months of 2021, Tesla drops down to #5, while the Stellantis alliance (more than 10 automotive brands combined) shines much more than any of its individual brands, even passing up the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. Volkswagen Group is on track for more than 150,000 sales in Europe in 2021. (The total should be significantly larger, though, since more capacity is going online throughout the year." Maybe it's time to cut subsidies on PHEVs?" http://ev-sales.blogspot.com/2021/05/france-april-2021.html SANDY MUNRO SAYS POLESTAR SHOULD BE PROUD"In the third episode about the Polestar 2, Munro Live reviews the undercarriage of the car, which usually is the most interesting in the series, due to the vast experience of Sandy Munro. The overall evaluation is very positive. Sandy Munro said that he is pretty happy with what he saw under the Polestar 2 and that Volvo/Geely parent companies should be very proud of the Polestar." says InsideEVs: "Sandy Munro found also a few interesting solutions to reduce wind noise. He of course appreciated the use of big casting parts, referring to Tesla's single-casting approach. Amid many delayed rollouts and arrivals, due to microchips and supply-chain issues, that’s about a month earlier than GM suggested earlier this year. Per the update from GM, first Bolt EUV deliveries will be made by the end of May. Both models, built in Lake Orion, Michigan, represent a Bolt EV refresh for 2022, but it’s the Bolt EUV that updates the Bolt EV formula with a slightly larger form factor. The EUV is just 6.3 inches longer than the EV, on a wheelbase that’s 2.9 inches longer, but it offers more backseat space and cargo versatility. " says Green Car Reports: "The Bolt EV retains that 259-mile rating with its 2022 refresh, although the Bolt EUV, with its higher curb weight and potential aerodynamic differences, has received a range rating of 247 miles. This is big news! LFP now represents 52 % of all battery cell production in China, but its market share is expected to grow even more in the coming months. In most electric cars NCM will be relegated to more expensive trim levels, while LFP will become the standard battery cell chemistry." writes Pedro fo PushEVs: "While Chinese automakers have been extremely fast to adopt LFP as the standard battery cell chemistry, other automakers will follow this strategy. Tesla, Volkswagen and Renault already stated that LFP will become the chemistry that allows to mass produce electric cars that compete with ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) cars in price and availability." It's 2021, and the year has already given birth to a new automaker! This automaker already has an accomplishment under its belt: the world's 4th largest automotive group, behind Volkswagen, Toyota, and the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. On January 16, 2021, Stellantis was born from the merger of French carmaker Groupe PSA and Italian-American carmaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). Why did the two automakers decide to merge? What does this mean for American car shoppers? We explore those questions, celebrate the RETURN OF RENTAL CAR ROULETTE, and take a listener question about factory equipped dash cameras. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jesse-chan/message
Carlos Ghosn was the star automotive CEO of the 2000s. Having turned around two struggling automakers and leading them through the global financial crisis, Carlos Ghosn's skills and insights were the envy of boardrooms across the globe. But, in December 2019, this former star CEO became an international fugitive having escaped from house arrest in Japan and smuggled into Lebanon in an elaborate scheme straight out of a spy movie. Who is Carlos Ghosn? How did he end up being the only CEO to run two Fortune Global 500 companies at the same time, often flying a corporate jet between the US, France, Brazil, Lebanon, and Japan? And how did he go from jet-setting CEO to wanted international fugitive in a 5-year time period? In the first of a two-part episode, we discuss Carlos Ghosn's meteoric rise from competent tire executive to global automotive legend and the complex legacy he left behind at Renault, Nissan, and the Renault-Nissan (now Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi) Alliance. Plus, Jesse takes a listener question about Hybrids and explains the absence of Rental Car Roulette. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jesse-chan/message

For the first time the 39kWh battery pack will be available to UK buyers. The battery is capable of travelling up to 180 miles on a single charge. Available on the ‘2’ specification, the newcomer is priced at just £29,595, after the Plug-in Car Grant has been deducted (£32,595 without). It joins a pair of high specification models in ‘3’ and ‘4+’ grades that feature the high-powered 64kWh battery pack. A driving range of more than 282 miles on a single charge is possible, with the ‘+’ moniker symbolising that it incorporates an AC 11kW three-phase charger as standard, the first time that it has been offered on the e-Niro. ‘2’ 39kWh £29,595 ‘3’ 64kWh £33,850 ‘4+’ 64kWh £36,145 NISSAN ARIYA TO BE UNVEILED ON JULY 15, 2020 "Nissan announced that the production version of its next-generation all-electric model, the Ariya, will be unveiled on July 15, 2020 in Yokohama, Japan. The Nissan Ariya Concept was shown at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, hinting at a new dual-motor all-wheel-drive platform for the entire Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance." says InsideEVs: "For Nissan, it's a very important new model, which will be key to returning to the EV game, as the Nissan LEAF is no longer a top player these days." https://insideevs.com/news/430687/nissan-ariya-unveiling-july-15-2020/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-articles CADILLAC LYRIQ EV DEBUTS AUGUST 6 "We should’ve seen the Cadillac Lyriq by now. The automaker’s first fully-electric crossover was originally slated to debut on April 2 in Los Angeles, but coronavirus brought those plans to a screeching halt. Now – conveniently timed on the same day as Ford’s new F-150 debut – Cadillac wants us to know the Lyriq will arrive on August 6." according to Motor1: "It’s important to remind everyone that the Lyriq is technically a concept vehicle. Cadillac describes it as “not a concept but a precursor,” but the takeaway is the same. When the Lyriq finally breaks cover in August, it still won’t be the EV Cadillac you can buy in dealerships." https://www.motor1.com/news/430832/cadillac-lyriq-ev-crossover-debut-august/ VW TRADEMARKS 'E-SAMBA' IN EUROPE "We first saw the ID. Buzz concept a few years ago, and have since been eagerly awaiting a production version, which we expect in 2022. We don’t yet have an official name for that production vehicle, but the folks at VW ID Talk forum may have uncovered a clue. VW has filed for the “e-Samba” trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office."So the “e-Samba” trademark could be the name of the new electric van. Or — and this is what we’re hoping for — it could be the name of a variant of the upcoming vehicle, perhaps one with a ton of extra glass or some other features to help capture the spirit of the original. It’s also possible VW doesn’t have specific plans to use the name yet." https://www.autoblog.com/2020/06/25/volkswagen-e-samba-trademark-id-buzz/ BMW HAS INTERNAL PRESSURE TO BUILD ELECTRIC-ONLY PLATFORM "BMW is getting some internal pressure to build an electric-only platform and move away from the strategy to build cars with several different powertrain options on the same platform. In 2018, the German automaker unveiled its fifth-generation electric powertrain technology, which is first going to be used in the iX3 electric SUV. At that point, BMW hadn’t released a new all-electric vehicle in five years, and now two years later, the automaker has yet to bring another one to market." writes electrek: "However, we now learn that BMW is seeing a push internally to build a dedicated EV platform. Manfred Schoch, chairman of the BMW Group Works Council, told Der Spiegel that the German automaker needs its own electric-only platform. Autocar is reporting that a 3 series electric is being tested as well with release expected in the 2023ish time frame. Will it be too late to challenge the Model 3 at that point?" https://electrek.co/2020/06/26/bmw-internal-pressure-build-electric-only-platform/ TESLA SEMI JOINS DELIVERY TEAM "2Q 2020 is a challenging quarter for Tesla because the Fremont factory was temporary halted the production over a month due to the COVID-19. Nevertheless, seems like Tesla will show high rates that will surprise us because now Semi has joined the delivery team to bring vehicles from Fremont for the quarter-end push." says Tesmanian: "Twitter user @emanueIreyes posted photos demonstrating that Tesla electric trucks are loading up Tesla cars in Fremont. These impressive shots demonstrate that Semi is ready for full functionality. Despite the global crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Tesla maintains stronger-than-expected supplies thanks to, among other things, the dynamics of the Chinese market, which began to recover rapidly after the first quarter." https://www.tesmanian.com/blogs/tesmanian-blog/tesla-semi-joins-delivery-team-to-bring-vehicles-from-fremont-for-the-quarter-end-push HOW MANY CARS WILL TESLA DELIVER IN Q2 2020? PREDICTIONS ARE LOOKING UP "with the quarter coming to a close, Tesla cancels people's U.S. deliveries if they live far away from the Fremont factory, and instead delivers the cars to local buyers. This speeds up the process and allows the automaker to sell more vehicles before the quarter ends. However, it also means that paid reservation holders on the east coast are now waiting longer for a car." says InsideEVs: "Wall Street is predicting a 25% year-over-year drop related to Tesla's Q2 2020 deliveries. Analysts are forecasting 60,000 to 70,000 copies moved. However, Electrek reported that sources are saying the automaker could shock the world with a much higher number. The publication goes so far as to say Tesla may even be able to come close to beating its previous Q2 record of 95,000 deliveries." https://insideevs.com/news/430969/tesla-record-delivieries-q2-2020-beat-wall-street/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-articles QUESTION OF THE WEEK How would you like to see Green Plates or Green Stickers used to incentivize EVs? Show #515 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 1st July 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. I’m loving their articles too, the latest being: Electrified Pickup Trucks Are Coming Whether The Market Wants Them Or Not. Peter Osborn on Facebook: "Good mix of stories including Tesla and leaf not just his zoe which plays minor role. up to date with UK and international stories. almost every day which is incredible for one man show." Luke on Facebook: "After listening to your podcast for the past year I finally did it. Just bought a used 14 i3. Your the first person I’m messaging about this because I’m probably going to made fun for the rest of my life for this but dam did it feel good to plug in. " EVS TO MAKE 'ENGINE' NOISE One of the things I like most about my car is how quiet it is at low speeds. With the windows down, and at a low speed, I find it relaxing to be sitting in silence. But now new laws all around the world are adding fake noise on the grounds of safety. And I do understand this one. More than once I've been in a car park following people walking to their car down the middle of the road, and they've not been aware of my presence because it's an EV. Plus in car parks I have had people walk out in front of me because they're not expecting a car to be there - at least they're relying on their ears to hear a car. I imagine it happens in places like car parks because people aren't as vigilant as when crossing a three-lane road with cars driving at 60mph. Now today we are facing noiser EVs in Europe with a new law, primarily to help the visually impaired, although this will certainly help my close call situations. "EV models in the European Union require a noise-emitting device (Acoustic Vehicle Alert System, or AVAS) that kicks in whenever the vehicle is driving below 19km/h (12MPH). The system will theoretically prevent pedestrians and cyclists from being caught unawares by cars that would otherwise be near-silent." reports Engadget: "All new EVs, including those from existing lineups, will have to include noisemakers by 2021. Cars already on the streets are likely to get retrofits." However as a counter point, at speeds below 12mph a piece of research shows that petrol combustion cars are almost as quiet, and therefore EVs were being singled out and unfairly punished. https://www.engadget.com/2019/06/30/eu-electric-car-noise-rule-takes-effect/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_vehicle_warning_sounds BENTLEY PREVIEWS ALL-ELECTRIC EXP 100 GT CONCEPT "Bentley is celebrating its centenary in 2019. And now the company has teased the centrepiece of its celebrations: a new concept car, called EXP 100 GT" says EVO magazine: "Details remain scarce before the concept’s official reveal on July 10, but the technology is expected to be borrowed from the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-Tron GT – two premium EV models on a new platform called J1, which is mooted to be shared across into the Bentley model range. As such, expect the EXP 100 GT to be powered by multiple electric motors, driving all four wheels beneath a sleek four-seater body." https://www.evo.co.uk/bentley/22834/bentley-previews-all-electric-exp-100-gt-concept GERMANY EXTENDS THEIR EV SUBSIDIES Back in February on the podcast, I told you about a plan in Germany to extend their EV subsidies beyond June 2019, what they cal the Environmental Bonus. Then in May, we talked about the scheme being extended for BEVs and PEHVs until then end of 2020, to kick in immediately after the expiry of the old one yesterday. And right on schedule, these are Germans after all, ow we have news from Electrive: "The purchase premiums for electric cars and plug-in hybrids have now been officially extended until the end of 2020. And there is news. The extension of so-called Umweltbonus (environmental grant) will apply from 1 July after the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy announced as much in May. What is new is a conveyor module for the installation of an acoustic warning system for blind and visually impaired people (Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems – AVAS). These will be subsidised with 100 euros. Battery-electric cars and fuel cell vehicles are eligible for 2,000 euros each by the state and the manufacturer." https://www.electrive.com/2019/06/30/environmental-bonus-officially-extended-in-germany/ HUSQVARNA LAUNCHES ITS FIRST ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE Husqvarna Motorcycles have launched the new EE 5 – an electric engine Minicycle that continues the brand’s pioneering motocross journey and delivers a complete and fully adaptable, five-kilowatt competition machine. Surely it can't be good for have this spotlight on whether it will be a hit or a miss for being a record quarter? And whatever the result, some media will either report it as Tesla missed target or Tesla narrowly hits target. This time around they have China and European deliveries to add in, on top of their goal of 33,000 deliveries in North America in June. The best guesses out there online put the quarter at 60,000 in North America and potentially 90,000 worldwide. This is how CNBC reported it earlier today: [audio] MERCEDES-BENZ A250E PHEV COMING WITH 15 KWH BATTERY? "According to a report by Autocar, Mercedes-Benz insiders and an official German transport authority documentation have revealed that an A250e variant will be added to the A-Class hatchback range. If that last letter looks familiar to you, that's because it's a suffix added to electrified Mercedes cars, such as the C300e." says the UK version of the autoomtive site Motor1.com: "the A250e will be powered by the same 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine on the A200, which delivers 161 bhp and 184 pound-feet torque. However, a gearbox-mounted electric motor will support the setup, adding 101 bhp and 221 lb-ft. The report also added that a 15 kWh lithium-ion battery under the rear seats will power the electric motor in the A250e. The battery is sourced from LG Chem. In pure battery power, the upcoming plugin hybrid hatchback is expected to reach 37 miles as measured on the WLTP combined cycle. Autocar added that an official German transport authority documentation indicated that the top speed while in this mode is 87 miles per hour." https://uk.motor1.com/news/357394/mercedes-a250e-plugin-hybrid-rumour/ RENAULT-NISSAN-MITSUBISHI ALLIANCE INVESTS IN THE MOBILITY HOUSE "Alliance Ventures (the venture capital arm of Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance) announced another investment in an EV-related company - The Mobility House, described as "a technology company that provides a platform for integrating vehicle batteries into power grids using intelligent charging, energy and storage solutions"." says InsideEVs. A statement said: "Alliance member companies and The Mobility House have already embarked on several projects together. For instance, through collaboration with The Mobility House, the Nissan LEAF was the first electric car to be used in a Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) project in Germany, in Hagen. Cooperating with Groupe Renault, The Mobility House will market the biggest stationary energy storage systems made with electric vehicle batteries in Europe and contribute through its smart energy platform to make the Portuguese island of Porto Santo, near Madeira, the first “smart island” in the world." https://insideevs.com/news/357243/alliance-ventures-invests-the-mobility-house/ COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week.
