As an alcoholic, Dr. Robb Kelly went from married with children to losing everything and becoming homeless for 14 months. Then one night, in gut-wrenching desperation, he cried out to God saying, “I can't do this anymore! God if you're real, help me!” 30 seconds later, his prayer was miraculously answered. This started a sequence of astonishing events that led to a complete recovery. He says, “if you do not have a connection with God, you will not fully recover from alcoholism. In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger (facilitator and retired naturopath with 30+ years of practice) speaks with Dr. Robb Kelly, PhD For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/Dr-Robb-Kelly    Highlights from today's episode include: So, everything is going good. We got the wife back, just got in a great job, amazing, fantastic and then we self-sabotage…alcoholics and addicts for what they can see as no reason. Well, the reason is childhood trauma, and it's still stored, because we've got to deal with it. that's what we do with trauma, it becomes our comfort zone, it becomes our buffer, even though I know it's painful, and it's going to be horrible. It becomes the only thing that I know, in times of trouble. So, the idea is, is to address that, to smash that box and make sure you can't get back in. But right now, it's people often ask me, you know, what's the answer? And the answer is dialogue and education are relative because people don't understand that alcoholism is a disease, so is drug addiction and that it's a predisposition, we don't have a choice over this. So when we take our first drink, it sets up that cycle internally.   ABOUT DR. Dr. Robb Kelly has lived many lives. He was a bassist at Abbey Road studio who played - and partied - with the likes of Queen, Bowie, and Sir Elton John. He fled England for Spain after stabbing his wife for trying to take away his vodka. He went from millionaire to homeless, living on the streets of Manchester for nearly a year. He remembers his moment of clarity, at a convenience store before sunrise. His hands trembled as he reached for a bottle of vodka. When he touched it, his hands stopped shaking. He realized then he had a thinking problem, not a drinking problem. He's ridden that realization to a career as an addiction specialist with the Robb Kelly Recovery Group, through which he creates individualized recovery programs using somatic experience and neuro linguistic programming. Robb has appeared on all the major networks, HBO and more. ************************************ This episode was presented by Gateway Foundation. It's not the alcohol. It's actually a predisposition with alcoholics and of course the trauma. Everyone asks me what the gateway drug is Dr. Robb? I say trauma, forget about marijuana. It's trauma. We need to get back and look at trauma. 12:24: Anything less than nurturing, as a child, is child abuse. So think about that for a second, because we have to be careful what our children are exposed to, how they eat, how they act around others. 15:34: The understanding of all this brings us to the fact that you can fully recover from alcoholism and addiction. You just know, knowledge is the game here. It's all knowledge. The more you know about brain science, the more you recover from the disease and get on with your life.16:39: Most of the traumas we forget and we hide away. And we disassociate with that traumatic effect. But where it'll come out is in your relationships. 17:19: So if you're looking at your behavior [and] you have certain traits that you get to a certain point in self-sabotage, there's trauma behind that. 20:22: And I'm guaranteeing you, and I mean guarantee, that if you do this and readdress your trauma, and you go back to the scene of the crime and you clear all that up, you will have a life beyond your wildest dreams.20:49: Everybody has trauma. It's just like everybody knows somebody who's an alcoholic or addict. And if you don't, then it's probably you. This is what I tell people, because the disease and the thought pattern and the depression is rife, but nobody's talking about it.21:18: It's about bringing people out and actually acknowledging that if you tell people you have a problem and you've recovered from it, it gives other people hope.23:53: If you're in that position, if you don't think you're good enough, if you don't think you're going to amount to anything, I want to apologize to you. In this episode, Al interviews world-renown addiction specialist and CEO/Founder of Robb Kelly Recovery Group (recorded 10-7-20). Dr. Kelly candidly shares his tragic story of what drinking did to his life. Dr. Kelly had a love and talent for music at a very young age. He was playing gigs with his uncle on stage at the age of nine. It was between sets at one of these gigs that his uncle gave him his first beer. Dr. Kelly describes how, as a functioning alcoholic, he was able to enter the University of Oxford and work at the notorious Abbey Roads Studio as a session bass player in order to help fund his education. Hear how alcohol got him kicked out of one of the university's colleges and how he lost his first job for drinking on the job. He shares how he finally had a job (still drinking daily), acquired a great amount of wealth, got married and had two children. However, none of this without bumps in the road. A violent assault on his wife wasn't enough to get him to stop drinking. Dr. Kelly describes how he lost everything and ended up homeless on the streets of Manchester. Hear how Dr. Kelly finally was able to get the help he needed, follow the program, and become healthy. He goes on to share about the incredible work he is doing as the founder and CEO of Robb Kelly Recovery Group. You can learn more about Dr. Kelly by visiting robbkelly.com. Dr. Robb and I discuss addiction, falling on his daughter, stabbing his wife, 6 suicide attempts - two of which he was brought back to life, and how he not only got through it but thrived and dedicated his life to helping others. He helps because he's been there.    Dr. Robb Kelly is a world-renowned addiction consultant who believes in treating the problem of addiction, not the symptoms. He has worked for many years helping addicts and alcoholics to RECOVER their lives from the disease of addiction. Based on his own experiences working with addicts and alcoholics over the last 20 years, a Ph.D. in Psychology from Oxford University, and as a recovered alcoholic himself – he is a triple threat against the disease of addiction. Dr. Kelly was the CEO of a thriving telecommunications company when the walls came crashing down on him due to alcoholism. He ended up homeless and broken on the streets of Manchester, England until he found the courage to save himself.   Dr. Kelly is currently the CEO of the Robb Kelly Recovery Group, an addiction recovery coaching company he created based on extensive research and behaviour studies that he conducted over the last 20 years. Dr. Kelly's methods may seem unconventional and unorthodox leading some people to refer to him as "The Gordon Ramsay of the Addiction World" because of his direct, no-nonsense, and candid approach to treating addiction.   FIND ROBB: www.robbkelly.com www.facebook.com/drrobbkelly twitter.com/RobbKellyGroup linkedin.com/in/dr-robb-kelly-07718133 www.instagram.com/drrobbkelly/   CONNECT WITH ME! I am incredibly excited for you to listen to this episode. I was fortunate enough to be able to meet and speak with Dr. Robb Kelley, Founder and CEO of the Robb Kelly Recovery Group based in San Antonio Texas. He also has offices in Dallas, Zurich Switzerland and London in the UK. He has appeared on countless television and radio interviews, including an episode of daytime series, The Doctors on CBS (https://www.thedoctorstv.com/videos/supervised-heroin-facility). Dr. Kelly's story of addiction is one of homelessness, loss of family and six suicide attempts. In a moment of his life, that he will describe later in the episode, Dr. Kelly had what I believe is a concrete interaction with God. This interaction and the promise he received from a mysterious gentleman named John has manifested into Dr. Kelly's continued success in the recovery world. He has a 97% success rate helping alcoholics and addicts recover from their suffering and he even provides a money back guarantee, something you don't see at all in the world of recovery.
