Now that farm fields have been harvested it's time for snowmobilers to get active. Not on their machine, but in posting the trails that riders will follow when the snow arrives. In Wisconsin, that's a big job! Ben Jarboe finds out about the human workforce that has to mobilize from Lori Heideman, president of the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs. She explains how they prepare the nearly 25,000 miles of trails for snowmobile season. She also gives an update on some of the things the association is working on. Precipitation is on the way to Wisconsin beginning tomorrow morning. What form will it be? Stu Muck says with temperatures in the 40's, it'll probably remain rain this time. The federal government shutdown forced some changes in consumer buying patterns and grocers are noticing it. Kiley Allan follows up on the trend with Nick Novak, President of the Midwest Food Processors Association. He says consumers are being careful with their available dollars and want to know what they're getting. He highlights the value they're finding in canned and frozen vegetables for example. With very few ingredients on the package, consumers are feeling confident about the price and the product. Nebraska has surpassed Texas as the number one cattle feedlot state. Their governor, Jim Pillen, is also very happy to report that every bushel of soybeans produced in the state stays in the state. He says with all the anxiety over China being out of the marketplace, it's a comfort to Nebraska growers. Wisconsin dairy is on a roll! Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin Board Member Ali Straschinske says farmer checkoff dollars are driving real results at home and abroad, according to the annual report. From marketing wins that made WisconsinCheese.com rank #1 on Google, to cheese exports reaching over 50 countries, today's Check In With Dairy Checkoff highlights the quality, care, and pride of Wisconsin dairy. After a couple November snows, it may have some Wisconsin residents thinking about the upcoming snowmobile season, but what might not get thought about is the preparation that needs to be done on the nearly 25,000 miles of trails in the state. Through the summer it is inevitable that some branches will grow and trees may fall. Lori Heideman, the President of the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs, says that it takes every bit of the 36,000 members to make sure the trails are ready for winter fun.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

1-Ply vs 2-Ply Snowmobile Tracks: The Real DifferenceEpisode Summary:In this episode of Snowmobile Trail Talk, Chris dives into one of the most debated topics in snowmobiling — 1-ply vs 2-ply tracks. If you've wondered which is better for performance, durability, and value, this episode has the answers. Learn the history, how to tell them apart, and which stud kits pair best with each type. What We CoverHow 1-ply tracks started and why Ski-Doo introduced them in 2008.Which brands use 1-ply vs 2-ply — and why Polaris sticks with 2-ply.The quick “window test” to identify your track.Myths about track types, including Ice Ripper misconceptions.Real pros and cons of each type.Which stud kits are best for each.A Quick HistoryIn 2008, Ski-Doo launched the XP chassis — light, agile, and featuring the 1-ply track to cut weight. Yamaha and Arctic Cat followed on select models, while Polaris stayed with 2-ply tracks for durability. How to Tell the DifferenceBoth look similar, but there's an easy check: look through the small window between the track's outer edge and center belt. One row of cords = 1-ply. Two rows = 2-ply.See our full guide here: How to Tell the Difference Between a 1-Ply and a 2-Ply Track.Pros & Cons1-Ply Pros:Slightly lighter, may reduce rolling resistance.1-Ply Cons:Less durable on rough terrain. Shorter studded lifespan.2-Ply Pros:Stronger, handles impacts better, lasts longer. Often cheaper upfront.2-Ply Cons:Slightly heavier, though most riders won't notice.Chris's verdict: durability matters more than minimal weight savings — he rides 2-ply.Stud Kit RecommendationsFor 1-ply tracks, use the Top Gun SP Kit — oversized heads and backers boost support by 25%.For 2-ply, go with the Top Gun II Kit — built for thousands of miles of strength. You can run the SP on 2-ply for max grip, but avoid the II on 1-ply to prevent damage. Why It MattersOn paper, 1-ply seems faster and more efficient, but most riders won't feel the difference. The durability gap is huge — a studded 2-ply with the right Stud Kit can last 10,000 miles, while a studded 1-ply might last about 5,000. That's a big factor in cost and reliability.Get the Right SetupNot sure which track you have? Use our Stud Kit Application Finder to identify your stock track type and compatible kits.Explore all our Snowmobile Studs, including:Top Gun SP Kit — for single-ply tracks.Top Gun II Kit — for 2-ply tracks.Final ThoughtsChoosing between 1-ply and 2-ply comes down to riding style and priorities. If you want maximum longevity and peace of mind, go 2-ply with the right studs. If weight is your top concern, 1-ply can work — just reinforce it properly. For the full range of Snowmobile Studs and kits, visit FastTracTraction.com and get your sled ready for the season.

Sam Landes, Director of the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs (AWSC), shared insights on the organization's vital role in maintaining the state’s extensive snowmobile trail system. The AWSC, nearing its 60th year, supports nearly 600 clubs and manages about 25,000 miles of trails. Landes noted, “Three-quarters of our trails cross private properties, thanks to seasonal easements from landowners, especially in agricultural areas.” The AWSC is a powerhouse of volunteers, with around 40,000 family members across 72 counties. “We have about 200 volunteers in Dane County alone, marking trails, working with landowners, and ensuring everything is ready for the season,” Landes explained.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

She runs a YouTube channel where she reads books. She's a big dreamer and definitely a glass-half-full type of person. Her sister, Keri, is struggling right now and is going to lose her house come February. Michelle is looking for ideas and gets inspired when she comes across the story of a kid who traded a rubber band for a house over the course of two years. She shares it with her sister, and Keri's like, “I don't have two years.” Michelle is like, “I can do it by Christmas!” Keri's like, “Knock yourself out. Good luck out there.”Michelle decides to start with a stocking instead of a rubber band. She posts about it online, signing it as Trading Up Christmas.A struggling journalist named Dan finds out about Trading Up Christmas and wants to write an article about it. So he reaches out, but Michelle says she's not interested in free press. Who would be? Not us, that's for sure. So, Dan decides to trick her into meeting by contacting her about a trade, which she accepts. He pitches the article one more time. But she ain't having it. Until she is.They begin to work together to trade up. Dan becomes very invested. They trade a sweater for an eggnog-tasting certificate, eggnog for a wreath, wreath for a crazy animatronic Santa, and then the big one… Santa for a snowmobile! Snowmobile for a trip to Hawaii. Things are going great. And the sparks are flying between Michelle and Dan.Then they get the BIG trade – the trip for an RV. And you can trade an RV for a house.Dan has a brother, Jack, who is a very successful real estate agent, and he finds a house that may be up for trade. But things start to go wrong. The house falls through, and then Dan's editor decides to publish names and pictures of Michelle and her sister, even though Dan promised they'd stay anonymous.Dan and his brother find another house, and they make the trade happen, thanks to their dad also getting in on the action and trading his new sailboat. They surprise Michelle with the house, and then Dan tells her how he feels. They kisssss.
