After being chased by racists through London in 1997, Ricky Reel was found dead in the River Thames. For many years, his family struggled to convince the Metropolitan Police to investigate his death. Ricky's mother Sukdhev was then later informed that SpyCops from the Special Demonstration Squad had spied on the family campaign. Lowkey speaks to the grieving mother still struggling for justice for her son almost 20 years later.“Throughout his 20 years, there hasn't been a day where I haven't missed him…the police officer told me the story, told me that Ricky and his friends had been attacked…still turned around and said, I'm sorry, I'm not going to take a statement…”While police racism has become a national issue in the United States, the situation in the U.K., if Reel's case is anything to go by, is not so dissimilar. “They were racist,” Sukdhev said of the police, adding,They were stereotyping our family because we happened to be an Asian, working-class family. And also sexism was also in there because I'm a woman. I stood up to face them.”She also claimed that once her son's body was found, the police categorically refused to investigate the matter.Continuing the conversation, Lowkey discusses the Special Demonstration Squad. This undercover unit infiltrated hundreds of groups for over 40 years, including the Justice for Ricky Reel Campaign, which Sukdhev set up to investigate the death of her son.“Why did they spy on me? All I was asking was for justice for my son. All I was asking was for you to do a proper investigation, simply because I kept on pointing on their mistakes...I felt like a  second-class citizen. Bhagat Singh was born in September 1907 in a family of radical freedom fighters, all the men in his family believed that they have to follow extreme measures to snatch the freedom of the country, thus making him a hugely patriotic person.  1919 Jallianwala Bagh Massacre left an everlasting impression on Bhagat Singh who witnessed the destruction and loss of lives after Gen Dayar opened fire on the people who had gathered there. When Bhagat Singh was in college he came to know about Young Italy Movement in Italy and created Naujavan Bharat Sabha in 1926. Later he held hands with very prominent freedom fighters by joining the Hindustan Republican association, in order to spread the fire of freedom throughout India. In a very small time he became a household name.  In order to avenge Lala Lajpat Rai's passing away in a lathi charge he, along with Sukhdev and Rajguru, carried out an attack leading to killing of a British officer. After a new runs and misses, they were arrested and an execution was ordered for them. He along with Sukhdev and Rajguru, very proudly embraced the end of their life for the sake of the motherland and left a legacy to each and every Indian to take the cause of freedom forward and attain it at all cost. The Indian Revolutionary Movement The first signs of the revolutionary movement can be traced back to 1847 when 5000 peasants rose against the British East India Company (EIC) in Kurnool district (Andra Pradesh) under the leadership of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy. They were protesting against the changes made to the traditional agrarian system. Jugantar Party The revolutionary movement was not organised till the 20th Century. The first signs of its organisation can be noticed in 1905, during the partition of Bengal. The Jugantar party was formed in April 1906 by Aurobindo Ghosh, Barindra Kumar Ghosh, Bhupendranath Datta, Lal Bal Pal, Subodh Chandra Mullick. They collected and manufactured bombs. The Jugantars sent some of their members for training abroad, too. But the attempted murder of a district judge in Muzaffarpur resulted in the arrest of many of them. They planned to revolt against the British during the First World War with the help of Indians living abroad. It relied on the clandestine landing of German arms and ammunitions in the Indian coast, which never materialised. They supported Mahatma Gandhi's Non-Cooperation Movement while conducting revolutionary activities. Hindustan Socialist Republican Association It was established in October 1924 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh by revolutionaries like Ramprasad Bismil, Jogesh Chatterjee, Chandrashekhar Azad, Yogendra Shukla and Sachindranath Sanyal. They aimed to throw out the British and establish the Federal Republic of the United States of India. The Kakori train robbery is one of the notable mutinies by the group. It led to the hanging of Ashfaqullah Khan, Ramprasad Bismil, Roshan Singh, Rajendra Lahiri. The group reorganised under Chandrashekhar Azad with new members of the likes of Bhagat Singh, Bhagwati Charan Vohra and Sukhdev and renamed themselves the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA). They killed Saunders, a police officer involved in the lathi-charge that killed Lala Lajpat Rai. Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru threw a bomb inside the Central Legislative Assembly. It was followed by their trial and hanging on 23 March 1931. Abhinav Bharat Secret Society It was a secret society started by VD Savarkar and GD Savarkar in 1904. After the existence of the society was unearthed, Savarkar was transported to the Cellular Jail in the Andaman Islands in 1910. Kotwal Dasta It was formed by Veer Bhai Kotwal with around 50 members during the Quit India Movement. They cut down electric pylons to cripple the industries and railways. Many have questioned whether corporations can fulfill a social purpose while still earning a profit --- from the early American corporations chartered to serve a public purpose, to Henry Ford's desire to spread the benefits of the industrial system to the greatest possible number, to modern Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. However, the operating environment for business has increasingly moved away from encouraging companies to pursue social purposes in their business activities. General incorporation statutes, limited liability laws, and changes in the post-war period have led to a situation in which corporations now mostly act with impunity --- largely free of requirements to serve a public purpose or even report the damages they cause to society and the environment. Last fall, Pavan Sukhdev a leading expert on the green economy, released the book Corporation 2020: Transforming Business for Tomorrow's World. In the book, Sukhdev argues that in order for corporations and society alike to survive and thrive, we need to rethink the way the business world works. This requires not just action by corporations, but also the strength of governments directed toward transforming regulations and creating incentives for corporations to change and adapt.
