The advanced medical center houses two hyperbaric chambers and is the only rural hospital in northeastern Arizona to offer this service. This addition is part of our goal to provide a complete system of medical and professional care to our patients. Summit Healthcare’s Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center is an outpatient, hospital-based program. The medical center is designed to complement the services offered by patients’ primary care physicians–in fact; we should think of it an extension of a physician’s practice. Patients receive outstanding, professional, and courteous attention in a timely fashion, and are returned to the referring physician once the healing is satisfactory. The program operates by appointment and requires a referral from the primary care physician.   For more information about Wound Care and he Hyperbaric Center visit: https://summithealthcare.net/wound-care-and-hyperbaric-center

He enlisted in the Navy in 1993 and served as a Deep Sea Diving Independent Duty Corpsman and Command Master Chief. After 23 years in the Navy, he retired from the Navy and returned home. Jeromy holds a degree in Healthcare Management and has worked in healthcare for more than 20 years with experience in Hyperbaric Therapy, Dialysis, Veterans Affairs, and Outpatient Medicine. Jeromy has four children; he and his wife Breanna enjoy spending their free time outdoors hiking, camping, and traveling.   Summit Healthcare Wound Care Center Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center is home to a specialized Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center. The advanced medical center houses two (2) hyperbaric chambers and is the only rural hospital in northeastern Arizona to offer this service. Conditions We Treat Our Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center allows the hospital to offer a more comprehensive wound care program to manage chronic or non-healing wounds caused by diabetes, circulatory problems, and other conditions. The following are types of wounds Summit Healthcare’s Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center can treat. Burns Diabetic ulcers Ischemic ulcers Neuropathic ulcers Peristomal skin irritations Pressure ulcers Surgical wounds Traumatic wounds Vasculitis Venous insufficiency Other chronic, non-healing wounds Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Treatments  Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO2) is a safe and evidence-based treatment proven to speed the healing process in certain types of wounds. During the treatments, the patient breathes 100 percent oxygen inside a pressurized chamber, quickly increasing the concentration of oxygen in the bloodstream. Then, the oxygen is delivered to a patient’s wound site for faster healing. Essentially, HBO2 helps heal the wound from the inside out. This therapy can help reduce swelling, fight infection, improve circulation, build new blood vessels, and ultimately help produce healthy tissue. The following are types of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatment that we offer at Summit Healthcare. Actinomycosis Acute peripheral arterial insufficiency Brown recluse spider bites Chronic refractory osteomyelitis Compromised skin grafts and flaps Crush injury Diabetic ulcer of the lower extremities Late-stage radiation injury Osteomyelitis Progressive necrotizing infection Soft tissue radio-necrosis Learn More For more information about Summit Healthcare’s Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center call 928.537.6820.

Current telemedicine programs offered through the Emergency Room at Summit Healthcare are Telestroke, Teleconcussion, and Teleneurology. Summit Healthcare is able to provide patients suffering from a stroke or having neurological symptoms a direct consultation with a board-certified neurologist 24/7. Through video conference technology we are able to connect the neurologist to the patient at Summit without having to leave the mountain for a consultation and provide our patients with quality care at Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center.   More and more patients in remote locations are being served by telemedicine, which is the use of medical information exchanged from one site to another via electronic communications to improve a patient’s clinical health status. For example, Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center offers telestroke services that allow a patient in our Emergency Department to be seen by a board-certified neurologist who can make a diagnosis and then deliver services through instructions to our emergency staff. Summit Healthcare also works with telemedicine partners to provide neurology, concussion, nursery, radiology, and psychiatry services. Planning is underway for telemedicine burn services. We are also developing a pilot program to integrate primary care and behavioral health as part of a grant-funded partnership.

Video @ https://youtu.be/ZWTHMPPKSaw September is Sepsis Awareness Month! Did you know that every day there are an average of 38 amputation procedures performed due to sepsis? Save a life, and a limb, by suspecting sepsis #SepsisFact#SAM2017 Below is some information off the FAQ page on http://sepsisawarenessmonth.org .  For more information please visit the link. There is a lot of information!! ~ ~ ~  What is SEPSIS? In brief, sepsis is your body’s toxic, or severe, response to an infection. This extreme inflammatory response (swelling) in your body is frequently caused by a bacterial or viral infection, such as pneumonia or influenza, but it can be caused by parasitic or fungal infections. Your body’s immune system, which is supposed to fight off the infection, goes into overdrive and begins to attack your body. Sepsis is a medical emergency and must be treated quickly and properly for survival. Some people still refer to sepsis as septacaemia. That is the older way of referring to it, but sepsis is the preferred term. ~ ~ ~ What are SEPSIS symptoms? Sepsis symptoms start off very subtly and may mimic a flu or virus. It’s important to look for the warning signs of sepsis. Spotting these symptoms early could prevent the body from entering septic shock, and could save a life. S – Shiver, fever, or very cold E – Extreme pain or general discomfort (“worst ever”) P – Pale or discolored skin S – Sleepy, difficult to rouse, confused I – “I feel like I might die:” S – Short of breath Watch for a combination of these symptoms, especially if you recently had a cut, scrape, surgery, or any type of illness or invasive procedure. If you suspect sepsis, see a doctor urgently, call 911, or go to a hospital and say, “I am concerned about sepsis.”

In this episode Birdman visits with David Harder with Summit Healthcare about the new launch of the Veterans' Pilot Program in Show Low, Arizona. Full Video @ https://youtu.be/UO7XYACMBbo   Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center, TriWest Healthcare Alliance and Show Low VA Clinic Work Together to Meet the Healthcare Needs of Local Veterans Summit Healthcare and the Show Low VA Clinic headed by Dr. Jeffrey Reres, Medical Director, began negotiations in January of this year to offer local Veterans the opportunity to receive simple x-ray and lab services closer to home. In June, the Pilot Program launched in Show Low, Ariz., and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs has approved continuance of this program for the immediate future.     The Pilot Program offers veterans who are seen at the Show Low VA Clinic the ability to receive simple X-rays and labs the same day as their VA appointment. With Veterans able to get the care they need close to home, veterans can get the care they need sooner and also eliminates making a trip to Phoenix for tests or X-rays.   “Our Veterans deserve to receive their healthcare here at home and the Pilot Program offers another service that Summit Healthcare can provide to our local communities,” says Ron McArthur, CEO of Summit Healthcare.   Since its start in early June, this Pilot Program has seen many patients who did not have to leave town for their tests. “It can be a challenge for some Veterans to make the three-hour trip to Phoenix, and this program help Veterans get the care they need right here at home,” says Dr. Jeffrey Reres, Medical Director, Show Low Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).   A top priority for VA is making sure that Veterans have access to high quality care when and where they need it. One way VA accomplishes this priority is by using VA’s community care network.   “The primary question at the forefront of all the decisions we make at the Phoenix VA is, ‘What is best in the eyes of the Veteran?’” said Rima Nelson, PVAHCS Director. “We are focused on modernizing and streamlining processes to improve care for the Veterans we serve. This is a great convenience for the Veterans in the Show Low area. They get care quicker and closer to home, and that means test results come back sooner and ongoing treatment can resume sooner.” Working with TriWest Healthcare Alliance and the Phoenix VA Health Care System (to which the Show Low VA Clinic is a part) to obtain authorization, Veterans receive can their services and results the same day.   “It is our privilege at TriWest to participate in this pilot program to ensure timely and convenient health care services to Veterans who call Show Low and the surrounding area home,” said Dave McIntyre, President and CEO, TriWest Healthcare Alliance. “TriWest truly values partnerships with our community providers who share our commitment to provide Veterans the care they have earned, and so rightfully deserve.” About Summit Healthcare Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center is a private, not-for-profit organization in the beautiful White Mountains of Northeastern Arizona.  Summit responds to the health care needs of more than 90,000 permanent and seasonal residents living in a 3,000 square mile area.
