Červenec 2022 byl v Evropě charakteristický extrémními vlnami veder. S Ondrášem Přibylou vysvětlujeme, jak vlny veder vznikají, jaké měly v poslední době projevy a proč jsou kvůli změnám klimatu dnes čím dál častější a intenzivnější. Dotýkáme se také otázky adaptace naší krajiny a měst na stále teplejší počasí, které nás v následujících desetiletích čeká a rozhodně se mu nevyhneme. Vlnu veder se dají definovat třemi způsoby. Buď jako překročení určité teplotní hranice – například tropický den nastává ve chvíli, kdy maximální denní teplota překročí 30 °C – nebo jako odchylku od „běžné teploty“ pro daný region a roční období a nebo jako extrémně teplé počasí trvající několik dní po sobě. Evropa je na vlny veder náchylnější než jiné části světa stejných zeměpisných šířek, což je dáno častějšími změnami proudění nad evropským kontinentem – rozkolísáním tzv. jet streamu.  Na konci epizody vám také představíme naše plány na podzimní sérii podcastu. Tornádo, které ve čtvrtek zasáhlo jihomoravská města, mělo sílu F3 nebo F4. Na střední Evropu je to výjimečná situace. Moderátor Martin Karlík se v odpoledním vysílání Rádia Z ptal geologa a klimatologa Václava Cílka nejen na to, jestli se budou tornáda v Česku v budoucnu objevovat častěji. „Vypadá to tak, že tornáda budou častější a mohou být ničivější. Většina z nich se bude odehrávat v lese nebo ve volné krajině. Pokud zasáhnou nějaké sídlo, bude to velký problém,“ říká Cílek. Souvislost mezi změnami klimatu a vznikem bouří a tornád se podle něj nabízí. Počet tropických dnů a nocí se neustále zvyšuje. „Jedno z největších klimatických rizik střední Evropy je to, že počet tropických dnů může vzrůst na dvojnásobek až trojnásobek. Problém s vlnami veder je obrovský. Dá se s tím ale něco dělat,“ dodává Cílek.
