Randy Nonnenberg sits down with Bring a Trailer community member, photographer and site contributor, kobus, to talk all things cars, vintage motorsports and more.

John is a life long car guy. All of his favorite toys had wheels. Growing up on the north side of Chicago, two of his favorite early memories includes drives down Lake Shore Dr. in an MGA with the top down, (which really started his love of British Sports Cars) and when the orange pedal car was brought downstairs for a sidewalk drive. That was officially his first car. His second was a fairly ratty, but still loved red 1960 TR3. There were a variety of cars in the early days, foreign and domestic. A 1969 Road Runner, a 1973 Grand Am with a four speed, and a 1972 MGB were among a few early cars. Later came a long string of practical and sporty BMW 3 and 5 Series cars. Somewhere in the late 80 and early nineties was a 944 Turbo.In 1996 John bought a 1963 Austin Healey BJ7 3000. He met his long-time friend Mark Baker when Sport and Specialty did some much-needed maintenance on the car. Re-bitten by the British Car bug, and deciding it was “now or never” John found a 1960 Bugeye race car and brought it back to racing duty. Next, he joined North Suburban Sports Car Club and went to his first driving school in 1998, and received his Novice Competition License. He has held a competition and instructors license since 1998. He also holds a Chief and Operating Steward's license from Midwestern Council and serves as the Vintage / Historic Racing Chair and Vintage Motorsport Council delegate. He campaigns his lovely yellow 1969 Alfa Romeo GTV and BMW 2002 with MCSCC and the Vintage Sports Car Drivers Association (VSCDA) in general vintage races and the B Sedan Trans Am series. He also runs his track and street ready1983 Caterham Super Seven when the occasion arises.After a long and successful career in sales and marketing and general management, John knew it was time to do something he truly loved. After the passing of his friend Mark, the business that he knew so well through his friendship with Mark was in danger of shutting down. The business had a talented and dedicated crew and good business basics in place, so after helping the family operate the business in 2012, he began discussing some purchase options to keep the business alive and growing. At the end of 2012, he purchased the business and hasn't looked back. He couldn't be happier, he works with a talented crew, gets to go racing when he can, and has successfully turned his passion into his livelihood! What could be better?

Paul Chenard is an automotive artist and writer who lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada with a passion for the history of automobile racing. His goal is to capture the “feeling” that enthusiasts have when watching a race. His art and writing has been featured in Classic & Sports Car, Classic Motorsport, Motor Sport, Octane, Sports Car Market, and many other publications. Tony Parella is the owner of SportsCar Vintage Racing Association, SVRA. After 30 years of success in the telecommunications industry he shifted his career focus to his true passion: auto racing. Weir's story will strike a chord with anyone who's ever had to improvise a mechanical solution when none seemed possible. He was good enough to sit down with us to discuss some of the "builds" in the book and their inspiration.

Once again, our $20XX Challenge event brought together some of the most creative car builders you're ever likely to see in one place at one time. After the auto crossing, drag racing and car showing was done, Ed Malle and his insane Mustang took home the trophy for $2014, but everyone that enters has a story to tell. We captured a few via digital recorder, and here they are.

Byron Sandborn has been a BMW Club member for over 41 years after attending their driving school at Seattle International Speedway. After that experience Byron was hooked on driving at speed. He autocrossed and then raced in ICSCC and SCCA events winning championships in 1987 and 1988. After being invited to drive a friend’s Shelby King Cobra in a vintage race, a friendship at the track with another vintage racer was formed when he helped with their Elva Mk 7. That friendship lead to a career move to Vintage Racing Motors. Byron’s been a key part of VRM for over 25 years as a mechanic, restorer, manager, and a driver. He’s raced over 175 different cars at over 35 different racetracks around the world. And yes, that's a Lazy Boy recliner that Byron built in to a drivable racer.

How many guys do you know that started their own car company? There's not many, but luckily Warren Mosler has been a good friend of our magazine since he first began Consulier Motors. Although the Consulier GTP and later Mosler MT900 are no longer in production, the legacy of what Warren and his associates created is still significant even three decades later.

Thor Thorson has had a love affair with cars since the early 60s.  He has owned, restored, raced and sold so many cars it’s hard to keep track of them all.  He’s been a ski instructor and was a ski patrol, a real estate developer and entrepreneur. He started vintage racing in the early 80s in a Lotus 7 and in 1989, along with several partners, Thor formed VRM, Vintage Racing Motors in Redmond Washington, and has spent the last 25 years restoring, caring for, buying and selling incredible pieces of automotive history.  Thor writes a monthly racecar profile for Sports Car Market magazine, sharing his thorough knowledge of the market with enthusiast who love vintage race cars.  He’s also spent a significant amount of time racing vintage cars all over the world while making automotive dreams come true for his many customers, friends, and clients.

Officially an international athlete, Robb Holland spends most of his time these days on the far side of the Atlantic, competing in the British Touring Car series and the VLN series at the legendary Nurburgring. Prior to that, Robb was active in all sorts of US series including the Pirelli World Challenge series and IMSA's Continental Tire series. We chat about his start in the sport, and what it takes to run competitively on an international level.

You can't race without rules, and the men and women who make those rules have the occasionally thankless job of trying to balance the competitiveness of hundreds of cars across dozens of classes. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it. This week's someone is David Whitener: Chairman of the SCCA's Street Touring Advisory Board. We chat with David about the state of Street Touring—one of the SCCA's most popular autocross divisions—and his predictions for the future of the ruleset. The science of aerodynamics is understood by few, but has a huge impact on our competitive enjoyment of cars. We all know that air affects our cars somehow, but we're rarely aware of the magnitude or ultimate impact of those forces. Steve Stafford is, though. Steve is an Aero engineer and longtime friend of GRM who currently works in Toyota's NASCAR program. He's spent time in wind tunnels tuning everything from classic Alfas to F1 cars in his career, though, and our chat reveals a surprising level of aero tweaking that the average racer or enthusiast can take advantage of. We try to take some of the more esoteric corners of the black art of aerodynamics and make them relatable to everyone.
