Since adopting the Carnivore diet, she's lost multiple kilos of fat and experienced an increase in bone density, even without exercising.At 16, Lisa left home for Japan and Singapore, performing in cabaret shows where maintaining a certain weight was critical. However, her journey with dieting took a dramatic turn when she was advised to gain weight for the first time in her life. She experimented with diets like the watermelon diet and the Israeli army diet, but these approaches were unsustainable and led to issues such as fainting on stage and requiring knee surgery.Upon becoming a mother at 29, Lisa gained 29kg and spent the next 15 years seeking answers for her inability to return to her pre-pregnancy weight. Despite being a Pilates instructor and believing she was doing everything right, the traditional advice of "eat less, move more" did not work for her.Lisa was struggling with high reverse T3 and explored fasting as a remedy, even moderating a fasting group led by Jason Fung.Lisa has been on the Carnivore diet for 18 months, with her primary focus being weight loss. However, the strict lockdown measures in Perth during COVID-19 affected her mental health, leading to a weight gain of 15kg. In November 2022, she found herself in a psychiatric hospital for 10 days, an experience that gave her perspective on her journey.Embracing the belief that she is better at abstaining than moderating, Lisa returned to the Carnivore diet. At his heaviest, Chuck weighed 420 pounds and had amassed a 66-inch waist while requiring a size 6xl shirt. At just 5-foot-6, his tiny frame struggled to support his enormous figure. A severe food addiction continued to fuel an unhealthy lifestyle as his waist expanded at such a pace that soon it would outgrow even the big and tall catalog. Yet, he convinced himself that he needed to continue down that path to remain a personality on radio station BIG 100.3 (WBIG-FM) in Washington, DC. Still, there were times when, like millions of others battling the bulge, he tried and failed to lose weight. He was even paid to endorse fad diets on the radio. But despite the paychecks, like every other attempt, the success he achieved was short-lived as the weight came pouring back on and then some. The money he was paid for schilling the cookies quickly evaporated at the nearest drive thru. Fearing that his life was spiraling out of control and nearing an end, he opted to undergo weight loss surgery. Prior to the procedure he was convinced that the drastic measure would become like all the other failed attempts to lose weight. I have full faith in God and God's plan (After all, you may remember I brought a “Faith” section to Seventeen which was kind of unheard of at the time. And yes, that is a link from the Alabama Baptist. Not sure they'd ever written a positive piece of news about a teen magazine before that.

Written By Katrina Smith Before IF I never would have imagined that I'd be at a point where I'm comfortable in my own skin. 2 years ago my husband and I went on vacation to Greece and when we got back I looked at the pictures of me and almost cried. I kept thinking how did I allow myself to get this big and why didn't someone say something? I was barely wearing a size 12 and was on my way up to a 14. For someone with a smaller frame like mine, I knew I didn't want to go to a 14. But what to do? I already was jogging 4 miles every day, going to the gym 4-5 times a week, packing 4-5 snack/meals and being incredibly frustrated as my weight continued to climb. So what were my options??? My life changed on October 9th when I listened to a podcast (non-fasting related) and the hosts had their functional family doctor on. She addressed how to lose weight and get fit over 40. As I listened she talked about Intermittent Fasting and Dr Jason Fung. Everything she said resonated with my very soul and I knew (without a shadow of doubt) this was the solution for me. It just made sense! I started IF on October 20, 2018. I sought out every YouTube video regarding IF and searched in FB for IF groups. When I found DDD, I knew I was home. I immediately read the book and embraced the clean fast (which honestly wasn't that much of a struggle because I don't drink coffee or tea- so water it was)! It was so straightforward and relatable- Gin could have been right there in my living room. The group was so motivating and encouraging, I knew it was the right fit for me. I started IF in October 2018 and by December 2018 had lost approximately 20 pounds to hit my first goal. Then I decided to go for another 10 pounds. That took much longer but I hit it October 2019...what a great IFversary present! Now I'm a size 2/4 and never would I have imagined I would be that size at this point in my life. I've been in maintenance for approximately 14 months and I absolutely love this WOL. Coachmofin and the founder of Healthymofin.com why is Fasting so effective for fat loss? The hormone “Insulin” is a fat storage hormone. It regulates the body and whether or not the extra glucose from food gets stored as fat. Insulin levels spike whenever we eat carbohydrates (Potatoes, rice, or pasta etc), proteins (fish, chicken or turkey etc) or fats (olive oil, avocados or nuts etc), but spike a lot more when we eat highly processed foods like sugary foods in snacks and mainly foods void of fiber. Foods high in fats don't spike insulin as much while protein in animal foods spike insulin levels moderately. The body does not burn fat efficiently when insulin levels are high, instead the body uses stored glucose or food energy for fuel. In the fasted state insulin levels are low allowing the body to gain access to stored body fat. The body burns more fat once glycogen stores in the body is depleted. This is one of the biggest reasons why athletes train in the fasted state to deplete glycogen stores which burn more fat in the process.
