Brit McCrae is a fast-rising actor, producer, and Co-Founder of KINO, a film-tech company seeking to make a more equitable film & tv industry. In this conversation, we dive into her journey into the wild-west of the entertainment industry and how she best finds balance while pursuing a career in the creative space; how do you find balance financially; how do you balance creative work for the soul and creative work for the roof over your head; how do you maintain your sanity; how do you find elements of control in a space that can feel so uncontrollable? While this conversation may be geared towards creatives (especially actors!), there are nuggets of gold for anyone who is looking to explore a creative pursuit or find balance in a space that isn't 100% within our control. Chris is an American actor, from New York but lived the last 10 years in LA. Having landed a lead role in the Steven Soderbergh movie The Girlfriend Experience, after intiially being a consultant for the film due to his fitness instructor background, Chris went on to feature in Perfect, another of Soderbergh's works. He also thinks he would be a friendly vampire muppet! Bio: Chris Santos, one of five children, was born in Long Island, New York. His first foray into acting was at the age of 12 in esteemed writer and producer Rob Weiss's (AMERICAN PSYCHO, “Entourage”) film AMONGST FRIENDS shot in his hometown on Long Island. Santos is best known for his breakout role in the feature film THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE (directed by Steven Soderbergh) where he played the male lead opposite Sasha Grey. The film, which centers around a high-end escort 'Chelsea/Christine' (Grey) and her boyfriend 'Chris' (Santos), has since been turned into a Golden Globe-nominated drama series, airing on Starz. Santos was introduced to the film by its acclaimed writer David Levien (OCEAN'S THIRTEEN, "Billions") who at the time was his client as a personal trainer living in New York. In fact, the character 'Chris' had so many similarities to Santos, that Levien and Soderbergh decided to cast him for the role. The film further solidified his taste for acting and since then, Santos has been working ferociously to fine tune and perfect his craft, training and completing master classes with Hollywood's premier acting coaches including Ivana Chubbuck, Deborah Aquila, Lesly Kahn, and Margie Haber. Chris went on to work with many great Hollywood actors, including Betty White. Chris has returned to the film festival circuit, co-starring in his second Steven Soderbergh film PERFECT which premieres at SXSW. Written and directed by the award-winning Eddie Alcazar, produced by Academy Award-winner Steven Soderbergh, and composed by Los Angeles based experimental multi-genre producer and rapper Flying Lotus, PERFECT tells the story of a young man with a violent past as he enters a mysterious clinic where the patients wildly transform their bodies and minds using genetic engineering. Co-starring Abbie Cornish, Martin Sensmeier and Maurice Compte, the psychological thriller fully captivates its audience, steering them along a thought-provoking journey while also providing a luxurious treat for science fiction fans. Santos additionally has the beautifully shot film SOMEDAY starring opposite Dominican actress Katherine Castro, which recently wrapped filming. The film follows two strangers who meet on a 14-hr flight from Sydney to Los Angeles. 'Adam' (Santos) is a world-famous composer, but 'Melody' (Castro) doesn't recognize her flight companion seated next to her. Along the way they pour their hearts out, forging a connection that is more beautiful, precisely because of its simple, fleeting nature. Santos currently resides in Los Angeles. When he is not acting or writing, the fitness enthusiast enjoys Thai boxing and Brazilian jujitsu. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

New Podcast with Actor India de Beaufort! In this episode of "Kahnversations," we interview India de Beaufort. India was born in a small suburb on the outskirts of London, England. It’s called Surbiton. If you’ve heard of Wimbledon, where the tennis happens, you still haven’t heard of Surbiton. It’s one town over. India’s mum, dancer/choreographer Karen de Beaufort, tried her darnedest to deter India from the entertainment industry at a very young age, but India completely ignored her mother and pulled out the jazz hands anyway, receiving her first (background acting) credit at 9 years old. At the age of 15, India joined the BAFTA-nominated BASIL BRUSH SHOW, where she made a ton of mistakes and expected to be fired daily. She miraculously held on to the gig until she was cast in David Schwimmer’s feature RUN FAT BOY RUN, at 18, not long after she made the move from London to Los Angeles, and consequently began hoarding British tea bags. With no formal training, India’s godsend of a manager Tom Drumm (thank the heavens) sent her to miracle worker Lesly Kahn, who got her on her first US series, and has been screaming at her ever since (thanks Les). Since landing in LA, India has jumped around as a regular, recurring and guest star on multiple live action and animated series, most recently shooting the pilot GOSPEL OF KEVIN for ABC, and wrapping up season 6 of Netflix’s ALL HAIL KING JULIEN. However, the best thing she got from Lesly Kahn (slash all of America) is her husband, fellow LK&Co. client Todd Grinnell, who can currently be seen crushing the role of Schneider on Netflix’s ONE DAY AT A TIME. #Proud. A proud LA native, Angel is a conservatory-trained actress, mother of two beautiful children, and a tireless do-gooder who has somehow never learned to ride a bicycle. She serves on the board of The Blank Theatre Company and is an active member of The New Hollywood, a women's philanthropic goal group. Since graduating from The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and almost a decade with Lesly Kahn, she’s amassed numerous television, stage, voice, and commercial credits, with roles ranging from Coochi Snorcher in THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES to Olivia in TWELFTH NIGHT, but most younger fans will know her as Tasha Davenport from Disney XD’s LAB RATS. In her upcoming project, Ryan Murphy's AMERICAN CRIME STORY: THE PEOPLE VS. OJ SIMPSON, she plays 'Dream Team' lawyer Shawn Chapman. Angel spends as much time as possible mentoring young women and children, as well as aspiring actors, helping them to set and achieve their goals through hard work, passion, and positivity. She absolutely plans to learn to ride a bike one day, and perhaps to swim as well. You can download or subscribe to the podcast for FREE by clicking below. But those actors are so faaaaaaar away from where so many of us are today! Wouldn’t it be great to hear from the guy who just booked his first pilot? Or the kid finally doing a studio pic after a bunch of low budget indies? Or the woman who’s been a series regular a few times but is only now becoming a name? What about the guy who’s been on a show for years and you know his face but what’shisnameagain? Or that actress who is now a freakin’ showrunner???? How’d THEY do it, right? How did they transition from relative obscurity, bartending and bottle service, to buying that house in the hills? We’re producing “Kahnversations,” a podcast that provides access to THOSE people -- your immediate predecessors -- so that you can learn from them while their battle scars are still fresh. In “Kahnversations,” our own Ryan Bailey interviews some of Lesly Kahn & Company’s working actors, directors, and writers in order to learn how they got started in Hollywood, the challenges and hurdles they faced, and how they overcame the odds. (They also dish out some crazy stories!) Listen in and enjoy as these entertainers speak candidly about their paths, processes, and experiences. You might even hear a bit about how Lesly and the Kahnstitute have influenced and shaped their careers.
A North Carolina native, Anthony grew up with the desire to act from an early age. His college years were interrupted by some harrowing twists and turns, but Anthony graduated from East Carolina University in 1992 with a BFA in Communication Arts. In 1993, he drove west with a friend to Los Angeles where he slept on the floor of his high school friend, Keith Coulouris' apartment in Studio City, CA. Keith was instrumental in Anthony getting a bit part in, Dead Man's Revenge, a USA network movie of the week, starring Bruce Dern, Michael Ironside and Vondie Curtis-Hall. Upon realizing the high cost of living in LA, Anthony returned to the East Coast, to study, as he had no business on a film set without formal training. He spent just shy of two years in Atlanta, taking classes and auditioning, before his then agent, Ted Borden urged him to make the big move to Manhattan to study at The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. In 1995, Anthony did just that. He lived in a NYU dorm with a student he met on his flight to New York after the living situation he had arranged prior to the move fell apart upon his arrival. The front door to the apartment that he was to be staying in had been kicked in and the tenants robbed the night before. He ended up bouncing between apartments on the Upper East and West Sides of the city for a few years. Concurrent to his studies at Strasberg Anthony studied privately with acting coaches Michael Margotta and Geoffrey Horne. While performing off-off Broadway in numerous black box theaters, Anthony met Lamya Jezek in 1997. Two years later, upon her graduation from NYU's Tisch School for Acting, the newly engaged couple moved to Los Angeles as Lamya had secured representation. They were married July 14, 2001, in North Carolina. In LA, Anthony studied with Milton Katselas at The Beverly Hills Playhouse and later took classes with Lesly Kahn in the Hollywood Hills, but found that the best training of all, was working on sets with other actors. He had the privilege of working with Academy Award Nominated actor, Edward Norton for nine years on several films as well as Academy Award Winner, Billy Bob Thornton on four films. Anthony maintains a number of relationships in NY and LA, but chose to leave the city life to return to his Southern roots to raise his family. Anthony and his family have resided on the East Coast since 2008 where he has been blessed beyond his wildest dreams by being able to work consistently in film and television as a character actor. Some of the highlights of Anthony's career have been working with some of Hollywood's most celebrated actors. He has had roles on both the small and big screens. On television Anthony has made appearances on “Homeland,” opposite Damien Lewis, “Revenge,” “Nashville” and “The Red Road,” opposite Martin Henderson and Jason Momoa. Anthony can be seen in the upcoming USA drama “Complications” opposite Jason O'Mara. He has feature film roles in “The Hunger Games” opposite Jennifer Lawrence, “Iron Man 3,” “Prisoners” opposite Jake Gyllenhaal. Anthony will be seen in the upcoming films, “Cell,” opposite John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson, “Project Almanac,” and the new reboot of Marvel's “Fantastic Four” franchise opposite Tim Blake Nelson. Anthony wrote and produced a short film entitled “Times Like Dying,” a post Civil War drama that recently World Premiered at the Cucalorus Film Festival. “Times Like Dying” is currently making the film festival rounds.

Have you been listening to the inspiring and educational podcasts from the likes of Mark Maron and Jimmy Carrane (among others)? They interview wildly successful performers like Jon Favreau and Carl Reiner. And they're great. But sometimes it feels like their careers are so faaaaaaar away and out of reach. It would be so cool to have heard them speak like right after they got their first big break - to connect the dots and figure out how they did it. But those podcasts aren't out there yet. Or are they? Yup! They are! Our own, brilliant Ryan Bailey has begun interviewing our own success stories! They talk about how they got their start, their challenges and hurdles, how they overcame the odds, their crazy on-set stories, and sometimes how Lesly and the Kahnstitute have influenced and shaped their careers. Kahnversations is an informal podcast that asks a handful of our more notorious actors about their experiences acting in Hollywood and their time training with the one and only Lesly Kahn. Listen in as these actors dish it all, in a casual interview format. Follow along and enjoy a loose conversation about the actor and their process and how one small, yet mighty, lady influenced them through her non-method and lots of tough love. The first of this podcast series is an interview with actors Angelique Cabral (2013 half-hour comedy pilot ENLISTED, Kahnstituent since 2009) and Jesse Soffer (2013 one-hour dramatic pilot HATFIELDS & MCCOYS, 2012 series regular MOB DOCTOR, Kahnstituent since 2008).
