Ultra-wide 3D vision sensors are an innovative technology that is transforming the robotics and mobility sectors. ArgosVision, a leading company in this field, has developed these sensors with unique features and potential applications.Ultra-wide 3D vision sensors: A revolution in robotics and mobilityThe most significant feature of the ultra-wide 3D vision sensors from ArgosVision is their extensive field of view. They offer a horizontal coverage of 240 degrees and a vertical coverage of 160 degrees, providing a comprehensive view of the environment. This broad field of view enables the sensors to generate depth maps and point clouds, which is crucial for autonomous driving in robotics and mobility devices. The depth map produced by these sensors is created using stereo matching to calculate the distance from objects to the camera. This data is then used to form a point cloud, which aids the sensors in understanding the environment and supporting autonomous driving capabilities. This technology could be integrated into robots, wheelchairs, and other mobility devices to enhance their functionality and safety. The future of technology: Ultra-wide 3D vision sensorsOne of the key advantages of the ultra-wide 3D vision sensors from ArgosVision is their unique ability to cover a wide field of view. Unlike other sensors such as cameras, depth cameras, and lidars, which have a limited field of view, these sensors can provide a 240-degree coverage. This eliminates the need for multiple sensors, reducing complexity and costs. The ultra-wide 3D vision sensors have received positive feedback at CES, with ArgosVision engaging with potential partners and companies interested in incorporating this technology into their products. These sensors are designed based on the Robot OS format, making them ideal for robotics applications. They are equipped with an NVIDIA Xavier NX processor, enabling them to run AI algorithms for detecting people, poses, faces, and dangerous objects.Another important aspect of ultra-wide 3D vision sensors is their AI processing capabilities. These sensors are equipped with artificial intelligence algorithms that can analyze the data captured by the sensors in real-time and make decisions autonomously. This level of autonomy is essential for robots and mobility devices to operate effectively without human intervention. Conclusion: A major advancement for computer visionIn conclusion, ultra-wide 3D vision sensors are a groundbreaking technology set to reshape the field of robotics and mobility. With their wide field of view, depth mapping capabilities, and AI processing abilities, these sensors have the potential to enhance the autonomy and safety of robots and mobility devices. Companies like ArgosVision are leading the development and commercialization of this technology, paving the way for a future where robots and mobility devices can navigate and interact with their environment more effectively and efficiently. The possibilities are endless, and it will be fascinating to see how this technology evolves and is implemented in the coming years. To learn more about the sensors and how you might be able to incorporate them into a product or project you are working on, check out the company's website.Interview by Todd Cochrane of Geek News Central.Sponsored by: Get $5 to protect your credit card information online with Privacy. Hello and welcome to Berlin Robotics Podcast number 17. Today I am talking to CEO Herbert ten Have from Fizyr. Fizyr was a double winner of the Amazon Picking Challenge. This was a challenge to pick and stow a variety of products between a shelf and a bin. Besides the unstructured environment the main challenges are: 3D Vision, motion planning, grasping, task planning and robustness. "We focus on solving the challenges of global leading machine factories and system integrators", Herbert says. "We often solve their first and primary question; can a deep learning algorithm be trained to cope with variation and robust enough to provide the required answers? We mostly start with a small and quick PoC (Proof of Concept) to provide those answers. Getting those results and seeing clients impressed and enthusiastic is always a great pleasure for our team in Delft."
