Instinto y trabajo, son los ejes principales de la personalidad artística de Antonio Gades; un obrero del arte, como a él le gustaba definirse. Empecé a bailar por hambre y luego vino la vocación. Antonio Esteve Ródenas nació en Elda (Alicante) en 1936. Hijo de un humilde obrero parecía destinado a seguir siendo obrero, pero gracias a su férrea disciplina pudo cambiar su destino. Siendo adolescente, Antonio logra entrar en la compañía de Pilar López, hermana de la Argentinita y una de las maestras de baile más reputadas. Será ella quien le ponga el nombre artístico de Gades en honor a las bailarinas gaditanas de época romana. Con Pilar López aprendió la danza como una unión de estética y ética. Una ética que se verá reforzada por el fuerte compromiso político y social que tuvo Gades durante toda su vida guiado por la figura de su padre, combatiente republicano en la Guerra Civil. En 1961 debutó en la Scala de Milán como primer bailarín y un año después participa en su primera película, Los Tarantos junto a Carmen Amaya. Más adelante, su carrera cinematográfica alcanzará su cénit en la colaboración Saura-Gades para la trilogía, Bodas de Sangre, Carmen y El Amor Brujo. Pero el bailarín, bailaor y coreógrafo Antonio Gades se sentía, sobre todo, marino. El mar y la navegación le aportaron sus momentos de vida más plácidos. Y cruzando el océano alcanzó Cuba, el puerto de su vida. El lugar ideal en su forma de entender la danza como lucha revolucionaria. Sacó su alma caribeña junto a Alicia Alonso, y con ella y Fidel Castro como padrinos celebró en La Habana su boda civil con Pepa Flores, Marisol. En su última creación, Fuenteovejuna, con guión de José Manuel Caballero Bonald, Gades da forma a su síntesis entre baile y justicia social. Una obra en la que su militancia ideológica alcanza el culmen con un pueblo que se erige como principal protagonista. Aunque muy enfermo, aún le quedará energía para hacer un último viaje en barco a Cuba, unos meses antes de morir, en julio de 2004, en el que expresa su ideal de libertad y disciplina. Allí volverán sus cenizas para descansar en el Segundo Frente Oriental de Santiago de Cuba junto a los héroes de la revolución. El documental, con la firma de Olga Baeza, cuenta con la participación de su hija María y de su última esposa Eugenia Eiriz, presidenta y directora de la Fundación Antonio Gades. También intervienen, Cristina Cruces, investigadora del flamenco y catedrática de Antropología Social; los músicos y colaboradores de Antonio, Faustino Núñez y Emilio de Diego; las bailarinas y parejas de baile de Gades, Stella Arauzo y Cristina Hoyos; el cantaor Gómez de Jerez, y los propietarios del Corral de la Morería, Blanca del Rey y su hijo Juan Manuel. Y el patrón de altura y miembro de la tripulación de Antonio, Jorge Verde, Coque, nos narra los avatares de su última navegación a Cuba. Ein Monat Funkstille ist vorbei. GATE7 meldet sich zurück. Hinter Thomas und mir liegen intensive Tage in Havanna, von denen wir dir in den kommenden Wochen ausführlich berichten werden. So viel schon vorweg: Es hat sich gelohnt, nach Kuba zu reisen. Kurz vor dem Rückflug haben wir uns hingesetzt und das Aufnahmegerät angeschmissen. Dabei haben wir schnell erkannt: Es wird noch eine Weile dauern, bis wir die vielen Eindrücke, Erlebnisse und Begegnungen verarbeitet haben.  Kuba hat uns durchgeschüttelt – in alle Richtungen. Wir hatten das Glück, zwei wunderbare lokale Guides an unserer Seite zu haben, die nach kurzer Zeit zu Freunden geworden sind. Durch sie ist es uns gelungen, noch tiefere Einblicke in den Alltag der Kubaner zu bekommen.  Wir durften den Ballettlehrer und früheren Partner der legendären Tänzerin Alicia Alonso, Félix Rodriguez, zu einer Prüfung in der "Escuela Nacional Cubana de Ballet" begleiten. Wir haben die Fäuste fliegen gesehen bei einem in einer Boxschule. Thomas hat ein Model-Shooting an vier Locations gemacht und war in der Heavy-Metal-Szene Kubas unterwegs.  Und wir haben einen der renommiertesten Fotografen Kubas, Roberto Chile, bei sich zu Hause besucht und interviewt. Bekannt geworden ist er durch seine Bilder und Dokumetationen von Fidel Castro. Über 20 Jahre lang hat er den kubanischen Revolutionsführer auf seinen Reisen im In- und Ausland begleitet. Außerdem haben wir intensiv Streetfotografie gemacht, haben in vollen Bussen den anstrengenden Alltag der Kubaner gespürt und haben auf unseren Streifzügen durch die Straßen Havannas immer wieder kleine, spontane Reportagen fotografiert.  Von all dem berichten wir dir ausführlich in den kommenden Wochen bei "Abenteuer Reportagefotografie".  Und falls du vorhast, ebenfalls nach Kuba zu reisen, dann melde dich bitte bei uns.  Wir helfen dir bei Fragen, geben dir Tipps und vermitteln auch gerne den Kontakt zu unseren Freunden vor Ort. Synopsis Today's date in 1956 marks the birthday of the Cuban composer Eduardo Martin, a name that might not be all that familiar to you — unless you play guitar, that is. Martin has written music for orchestra and films but is best known and admired for works he's written for his own instrument, the guitar — music infused with the flair and dance rhythms of his native Havana. One of his popular pieces is titled “Hasta Alicia Baila,” roughly translated “Even Alicia Dances,” referencing the great Cuban ballerina Alicia Alonso, suggesting that even she couldn't resist dancing to its beat. “Guitar is my greatest passion,” said Martin in an interview for Cuban radio. “But I have other passions: my country and my family.” “In my work, it is easy to notice the attachment to my roots. Even when I travel and see something that I like, I say, ‘Of course, it looks just like home.' I confess I am an eternal lover of Havana. L'histoire se déroule à La Havane, sur plusieurs époques, entre 1959 et 2011. Le lecteur découvre la vie de trois femmes : Amanda, une jeune ballerine pleine d’avenir ; Manuela, une mère célibataire qui rêvait d'être danseuse classique mais qui fait du cabaret et tente d’élever seule son fils ; et l’incomparable Alicia Alonso qui, malgré sa cécité, a su devenir à force de travail et de talent, une gloire nationale et la figure de proue du régime communiste. C’est à Cuba que nous vous emmenons aujourd’hui, à travers un album de bande dessinée qui porte en elle les couleurs chaudes de l’île castriste, la fierté nationale et les difficultés du quotidien des Cubains, mais aussi et surtout le destin d’une danseuse exceptionnelle. La bande dessinée «Alicia, prima ballerina assoluta», d’Eileen Hofer et Mayalen Goust, est parue aux éditions Rue de Sèvres. She began her studies at the Fernando Alonso National Ballet School in Cuba, graduating as a dancer-teacher, and later completing a degree in Dancing Art Studies at the University of the Arts in 2019. Leticia has been a professional performer working for international companies such as the National Ballet of Cuba and Acosta Danza over the last thirteen years. She has developed her practice in classical ballet, modern, contemporary, and Afro-Cuban techniques. During her career, she performed works by choreographers such as Alicia Alonso, Carlos Acosta, Christopher Bruce, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Pontus Lidberg, Justin Peck, Goyo Montero, Juanjo Arques, August Bournonville, George Balanchine, Jorge Crecis and Miguel Altunaga. Throughout 2021 she is preparing to be one of the ten international artists certified to teach Towards Vivencia methodology. As an artist, she is intrigued by the artist's experience during the performance, the ability to be present and fully live in real time. Erick Rodríguez - Originario de Matanzas, Cuba. Graduado de la Escuela Nacional de Artes de Cuba como el mejor estudiante de su generación. Formó parte del Ballet Nacional de Cuba del 2000 al 2002 bajo la dirección de Alicia Alonso. En el 2003 se integra a la Compañía Nacional de Danza de México. Ha participado en diferentes galas y festivales internacionales en Estados Unidos, España, China, Colombia, Uruguay, El Salvador y Venezuela entre otros. En el 2008 es invitado a participar con el Ballet de La Comunidad de Madrid, Víctor Ullate. En el 2009 es nombrado primer bailarín de la Compañía Nacional de Danza de México. Dentro de sus roles principales se encuentran Onegin, Romeo y Julieta, La fierecilla domada (John Cranko), El pájaro de fuego (Maurice Bejart), Cenicienta (Sir Ben Stevenson), Tema y variaciones (George Balanchine), Manon (Kenneth MacMillian), Giselle (Dolin), Carmen, El lago de los cisnes, Coppelia, La sílfide y el escocés, La pavana del Moro (José Limón), entre muchos otros. Durante el 2017 fue director y fundador del Ballet de San Salvador en El Salvador. Actualmente estudiante de la licenciatura en Gestión Cultural por la Universidad de Guadalajara. It screened with the whimsical short film Cubano Bas, made by Kathy Rose with the original composition of Greg Boyer. We spoke to an audience member about Horizontes and to Kathy and Greg about Cubano Bas.
