Trained and certified in 1996 under Manhattan-based Romana Kryzanowska, a Joseph Pilates protégé, Karen Garcia is one of a handful of second-generation Pilates instructors in the world. Karen Garcia founded Studio Body Logic® Authentic Pilates Studios, which have earned significant recognition from local, statewide, and national news media as reputable teaching centers. There are two locations serving over 300 students with multiple instructors, apprentices, and office staff members. Karen Garcia has taught Pilates for corporations, dance and Pilates conventions, and destination spas. Karen Garcia has also created several nationally best-selling and critically acclaimed Pilates fitness DVDs.

Master Flea by E. T. A. Hoffmann audiobook. Ernst Theodor Wilhelm Hoffmann (1776 – 1822), better known by his pen name E.T.A. Hoffmann (Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann), was a German Romantic author of fantasy and horror, a jurist, composer, music critic, draftsman and caricaturist. Hoffmann's stories were very influential during the 19th century, and he is one of the major authors of the Romantic movement. He is the subject and hero of Jacques Offenbach's famous but fictional opera The Tales of Hoffmann, and the author of the novelette The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, on which the famous ballet The Nutcracker is based. The ballet Coppelia is based on two other stories that Hoffmann wrote. Also Schumann's Kreisleriana is based on one of Hoffmann's characters. Master Flea was published in 1822.

#COPPELIA #ElAticoDePepe #PepeForte

Critics Sarah Crompton and Abir Mukherjee review Slow Horses, the brand new series from Apple TV+ starring Gary Oldman, Kristen Scott Thomas, Olivia Cooke, Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves and Jonathan Pryce. Slow Horses is based on the novel of the same name by Mick Herron, which is part of the author's Slough House series. It tells the story of a team of British intelligence agents who have all committed career-ending mistakes, and subsequently work in a dumping ground department of MI5 called Slough House. New ballet film Coppelia is an innovative family feature with an original score by Maurizio Malagnini, performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra. Choreographed by Dutch National Ballet artistic director Ted Brandsen, it combines 2D and 3D animation with live action dance and features a blend of musical influences from classical to electronic. Based on the original 19th century tales of E.T.A. Hoffmann this modern adaptation tells the love story between Swan and Franz, which is jeopardised by Dr. Coppelius and his uncannily beautiful protégée Coppelia. With a diverse and world-class cast, including Michaela DePrince, Darcey Bussell, Daniel Camargo, Vito Mazzeo and Irek Mukhamedov, the adaptation is created by filmmakers Jeff Tudor, Steven De Beul and Ben Tesseur. Sarah and Abir review. Professor Andrew Biswell, Professor of Modern Literature at Manchester Metropolitan University and Director of the International Anthony Burgess Centre, marks the 50th and 60th anniversaries of ‘A Clockwork Orange' by looking into its history, controversy, and legacy. Front Row will be announcing the winner of the National Poetry Competition this evening. Previous winners include former Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, and distinguished poets Tony Harrison, and Jo Shapcott.

This fall saw another edition of the San Francisco Dance Film Festival and for the first time in two years, screenings in front of a live audience. We were fortunate to be able to present four live programs during the twelfth edition of our festival and were especially honored to host the North American theatrical premiere of Coppelia, a filmic reimagining of the classic story that blends live action ballet with charming animation (catch our interview with producer Adrienne Liron in Episode 12). We were even more honored to have Michaela DePrince, star of the film and current dancer with the Boston Ballet, in attendance for a live Q&A with our audience. Michaela was very open and generous with her answers and did not shy away from the less glamorous side of pursuing a ballet career. This Q&A was moderated by KQED Forum host Mina Kim.@michaeladeprinceTwitter:@mkimreporterhttps://www.kqed.org/author/minakimsfdancefilmfest.org@sfdancefilmfest

Terry started dancing aged 6, won a 5 year scholarship to the RAD aged 10. He attended the Royal Ballet's Upper School, joining the Royal Ballet at age 18. To expand his character work, he joined London's Festival Ballet (now ENB) as a soloist, playing roles such as, Dr Coppelius in Coppelia, Sancho Panza in Don Quixote and The Headmistress in Graduation Ball. Terry left the ballet world to explore other artistic genres, and performed in musicals in London's West End, in Film and on TV.On retiring from performing, Terry set up as a Business Manager for people in show business. His clients included a number of well-known performers and many ‘jobbing' dancers, singer and actors. On selling the business 15 years later, and inspired by the realization that many of the people he'd worked with also sought his advice on personal issues, he retrained as a psychotherapist attaining a Masters Degree in Psychotherapy & Healing Practice validated by Middlesex University in 2012.After working with an ex-ballet dancer suffering with bipolar disorder, Terry recognized that there was a very special niche that he could fill within the world of dance. He's now combined his two passions, dance and psychotherapy bringing his ‘insider knowledge' about life as a dancer into the realm of counselling. He founded www.counsellingfordancers.com in 2017 and has been working to support the unique needs of dancers in relation to their mental health ever since. In 2021 Terry created the Help4Dancers App which can be downloaded for free from the Apple store.Terry presents interactive Mental Health Self-Care Workshops for Dancers both in person and virtually. These proactive workshops are to help support dancers' mental wellbeing, teaching them resilience and how to be mentally fit and emotionally strong. He now offers one to one therapy sessions available via video-link worldwide.

Synopsis In 1967, the Beatles released a song about “a girl with kaleidoscope eyes,” but on today’s date in 1870, it was “a girl with enamel eyes” that was the subject of a ballet that debuted on today’s date at the Paris Opéra. The ballet’s full title was “Coppelia, or the Girl with Enamel Eyes,” and its story-line was based on a fantastic tale by the German Romantic writer E.T.A. Hoffmann, dealing with the mad toymaker Dr. Coppelius, and his uncannily lifelike doll Coppélia, and the complications the beautiful doll causes in the love-life of a small Polish village. The music was provided by a 30-something French composer named Leo Delibes. “Coppelia” was a great success, much to Delibes’ relief. He had been juggling several jobs in Paris, but the new ballet’s financial success allowed him to concentrate on composing as his main career from then on. Delibes followed up on the success of “Coppelia” with another ballet, “Sylvia,” in 1876, and, in 1883, his opera “Lakmé” premiered at the Opéra-Comique. Along with the famous ballets of Tchaikovsky, Delibes’ “Coppelia” is now regarded as the culmination of the 19th century Romantic ballet. Elliott Kalan is an Emmy-award winning writer for The Daily Show and co-host of the amazing bad movie podcast The Flophouse (which is worth listening to regardless of whether you like bad movies or not, as the effortless riffing and chemistry between Elliott, Dan and Stuart is delightful). Simply put, Kalan is a funny guy. Quick-witted, amiable and hard-working, he has progressed from intern to PA to writer at The Daily Show, and in this episode we sit down to discuss that journey as well as Kafka, comic books, ballet, tumbleweeds and foley sound. This episode is a little longer than usual because we had such fun talking to Kalan.
