Happy Veterans Day! Chrystal and Mike Campbell are two Navy veterans who grew up with service on their minds, became pilots, and met while sharing the same hanger in Pensacola, FL. Mike was a Naval flight officer after graduating Wesleyan in 1981 and selected as a Blue Angel in 1987. In 1980, Chrystal was one of the first 50 women to graduate from the Naval Academy. She first served in the Philippines, and then became flight instructor, and impressed with Mike during back-seat-training, midflight. Mike talks about the daily Blue Angels debrief ritual after a long day of training – The "Oh By The Way" - That moment at the end of each meeting, when everyone is allotted time to offer whatever is on their mind, some challenge of the day or week, something personal or something special – To a circle of trust and support. _____Many thanks to Chrystal and Mike Campbell for your service, and ongoing service to so many veterans and military families since 2016, enabling transitioning, mental health, and family support. Your leadership gives hope for more healing to our wounded warriors, and at the same time teaches all of us that we can not only get a little better every day, we should strive to trust each other in order to have that Oh By The Way moment no matter who we are, or what we do.The Blue Angels Foundation is an all-volunteer Board composed of former Blue Angels and Honorary Blue Angels. Their philosophy is to give back to the next generation of warriors who have sacrificed so much to preserve our freedoms. The Foundation has been supporting causes from Cystic Fibrosis to Breast Cancer - And since 2016 has been targeting that support to transitioning warriors and their families to home and daily life, and making it possible for so many to receive expert assessment and treatment at Home Base and our partners in the Warrior Care Network. For Our Children: Warrior Parenting Guest Janet Demeter, Founder of Jack's Angels Foundation and Host of Childhood Cancer Talk Radio Fifty percent of children in the U.S. have chronic health issues, and among these, cancer is the leading cause of death among children by disease. Underlying this diseased state of our children are environmental toxins, which enter a body and accumulate over time to create metabolic deficiencies and imbalances. Such toxins exist in our air, water, soil and food. Parents are stepping up to identify these problems, raise awareness and advocate for systemic change. They are doing so in many different capacities; some are focusing on prevention and others are searching for therapies that are better than “standard of care” - less toxic, safer and more effective. In this episode, Janet Demeter shares her son's brain cancer story and the leadership role she took on within the childhood cancer community after losing Jack in 2012. Janet has learned a lot about cancer research, the shortcomings of the pediatric cancer care system and government policy, as well as what we need to do to be more effective. Janet is the founder of Jack's Angels Foundation, host of Childhood Cancer Talk Radio and a lead advocate for pediatric cancer awareness. She one of many parents who have been creating greater visibility and encouraging a higher level of funding for research into cures for diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) and pediatric cancers in general. Janet leads the effort to pass a resolution designating the 17th day in May as ‘‘DIPG Awareness Day,'' which cites DIPG as the most compelling example of pediatric cancer. This September 2024 interview coincides with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, CureFest 2024, a new book release, DIPG: Eternal Hope Versus Terminal Corruption, and the heightened focus on children's chronic health trends happening in national politics. The DIPG book is an experiential narrative published by Dean and Wendy Fachon about their son's cancer journey, and below is a link to a must-see video interview with the Fachons – “What is DIPG?” LISTEN TO PARENTS SPEAK ABOUT OUR CHILDREN'S HEALTH Childhood Cancer Talk Radio with Janet Demeter https://toginet.com/shows/childhoodcancertalkradio What is DIPG? In this episode, we welcome Stacy L. Pike-Langenfeld to the Newborn Screening SPOTlight. For many years, Stacy and her family have championed newborn screening research in profound ways through their foundation, called The Legacy of Angels Foundation. Stacy is currently the Executive Director of the foundation which was established in 2008 by Stacy's parents, Paul and the late-Sue Rosenau. The Foundation helps to advance research by bringing world experts together to discover innovations in screening, diagnosis, treatment, and life-long care. Stacy is also the President and co-founder of KrabbeConnect, which is focused on engaging the patient-care model between patients, patient advocacy groups, clinicians, researchers, industry, and government. Stacy will share her story on how her family story intertwined with rare disease research and newborn screening.  She will also highlight annual meetings and discuss ways that you can help advance NBS research. Be inspired by their mission to increase awareness and access to rare disease research.     Podcast Interview Questions with Stacy Pike-Langenfeld:   1. You are the Executive Director of The Legacy of Angels Foundation.  Can you tell our audience how The Legacy of Angels Foundation came to be?     2. Your entire family has played important roles in founding and operating The Legacy of Angels Foundation for many years. Your mother's efforts are especially well known in the newborn screening and rare disease communities. How does her memory guide your efforts today?    3. How have your efforts changed over the years?    4. Your team is growing! Do you have advice for patients, parents, families, and advocates who would like to start similar efforts related to conditions that have impacted their families?    5. Stacy, you are also the President and Co-Founder of KrabbeConnect. What is KrabbeConnect? Could you share with our listeners how these two organizations, The Legacy of Angels Foundation and KrabbeConnect work together?   6. TLOAF filed for Krabbe disease to be added to the MN NBS panel in Dec 2021 and a vote will likely occur in June of 2022. Newborn screening for Krabbe is also under review on a national level. Could you tell us a little bit about how submitting to a state advisory panel differs from a submission to the federal advisory board, which recommends screening for all states, territories and the District of Columbia?   7. Do you have advice for other groups interested in submitting their conditions for review? Any tips on the best approach – state or national?   8. The work of The Legacy of Angels Foundation has always informed the work of the Newborn Screening Translational Research Network or NBSTRN. Are there activities and efforts that you'd like to see NBSTRN facilitate as you work towards new goals?   9. Krabbe Translational Research Network is hosting its annual meeting on March 16-18, 2022? Could you share the agenda with our listeners? If our listeners are listening to this podcast after the meeting, is there a way for them to learn more?    10. Bernadine Fried (aka Bernie) and her husband Alex Shohet, the founders of Red Door Life. Bernie and Alex are well known in the addiction community and are on a mission to find cutting edge treatment and new approaches to recovery that prevent overdose deaths. James Lott Jr talks with them about their own journeys and how Red Door is set up and its mission and approaches!A 30-year veteran of her field, Bernadine Fried is on a mission to break the vicious cycle of addictive disorders. She currently operates a private practice in luxurious Beverly Hills, California, offering a comfortable and relaxing environment conducive to the success of her clients. There, Bernadine Fried has created and carried out treatment models that rely on a more personalized approach. A recovering addict, Bernadine Fried understands the role lifestyle plays in finding a successful path to recovery from addiction or other mental health disorders. Bernadine Fried has been treating clients whose careers or lifestyle add complexity to their treatment. Bernadine is trained to diagnose and treat couples, groups and individuals to achieve more productive and satisfying lives. She has demonstrated her dedication to the profession by providing services to the less fortunate as well as individuals of significant wealth, fame and influence. Bernadine's clients are often referred to her when other clinical professionals have been unable to help, and she is able to incorporate her methods into a client's existing lifestyle making addiction treatment accessible and effective. Staying ahead of the curve, Bernadine Fried has developed a well-rounded therapy repertoire by implementing the therapeutic model Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing into her practice. Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, also known by the therapy community as EMDR, uses an individual's rhythmic, rapid eye movements to dampen the impact of emotionally powerful memories of previous traumatic occurrences. As it gains in popularity within her profession, Bernadine Fried is eager to share her experiences of this relatively new form of therapy with fellow therapists. Now the Clinical Director of The Red Door, Bernadine utilizes her methods to treat patients with a variety of background and addiction issues. Alex Shohet is a serial “social entrepreneur”, who over the last 14 years built three successful and socially responsible addiction and mental health organizations including ONE80 Center™, Wonderland Center™, and a 501c3 Nonprofit the 12 Angels Evergreen Fund. Alex Shohet was not always an entrepreneur, and while an undergraduate at UCLA in Engineering, Alex became addicted to heroin and cocaine. Alex met his wife Bernadine Fried in 1983 while they were both addicts. Both Alex and Bernadine were severe addicts until December of 1987 when Bernadine got clean and sober. Once sober, Berni started working in addiction treatment and within a few years obtained her Masters and License as a psychotherapist. Alex got clean shortly after Berni and in June of 1989 Alex made an effort to pick himself back up by the bootstraps and started his first technology company and over the next 14 years developed systems and applications for the major entertainment companies including Warner Bros. Fox. MGM, and Disney. In 2005, Alex Shohet left technology and partnered with Bernadine Fried, LMFT to create their first treatment center, Wonderland. Over the last 14 years, Bernadine Fried and Alex Shohet have been evolving their model of addiction and mental health treatment. Alex Shohet is a frequent speaker on social entrepreneurship and its application to fighting addiction and alcoholism. In May 2008, Alex Shohet presented to a number of leading foundations in the country at the Philanthropy Roundtable in Atlanta, Georgia where they discussed ways in which entrepreneurship could be used as an engine of job creation, innovation, economic growth for low-income communities and the mentally or physically handicapped. Wonderland Center was recognized by Pacific Community Ventures for their efforts to provide healthcare and wealth within their recovering staff of addicts and alcoholics. Wonderland Center™ was selected from over 300 companies that applied to present at Investor's Circle 2007 spring convention in San Francisco. In the spring of 2009, Alex Shohet's 12 Angels Foundation provided career mentors to a few of the celebrities on Dr. Drew Pinsky's VH1 television show “Sober House”. In 2012, Alex Shohet teamed up with Kobe Bryant, Bill Clinton, and Aileen Getty to provide funds and services to help provide 200 permanent houses for the Homeless in Hollywood. Their efforts involved resource exchanges between the high net worth individuals treated at Alex Shohet's center with the homeless individuals treated at Step Up on Second. Today, Alex and Bernadine are blending the rapidly expanding market of co-living and co-working with addiction and mental health treatment.

We learn about starting a non-profit, it's apparently not all rainbows and unicorns and family doesn't always take it well. The lessons we learn when we start: how they conducted their first medical outreach with just a doctor and a stethoscope. Is it really a startup if you don't have an office in the CBD? Edmore also takes us through the amazing work they are doing as a foundation: Medical outreaches, a building project, soup kitchens, and a pad campaign...All of this unfunded. So much to learn in this episode, Thank you Edmore and the Angels Foundation Zimbabwe team for sharing your story. This is another zoom recorded conversation with minimal audio editing.

A changing real estate market presents opportunities that we can use to be more valuable to clients. What is the opportunity in doing real estate on-terms? How can agents add these to their listing presentation, and bring more value to prospective buyers? Why is it so important to expand our approach to real estate beyond listing homes? In this episode, author, investor and founder of Smart Real Estate Coach, Chris Prefontaine is back to talk about this incredible opportunity in real estate.  Nationally, more and more real estate is being done on terms because banks are getting harder to work with. -Chris Prefontaine  Takeaways + Tactics    Selling on terms is a win for everyone in the transaction The great thing about doing real estate on terms is that a seller doesn’t lose any money, and can get out of the home quickly, a person who wants to get into the home but can’t easily get a bank loan can rent to own, and the investor gets a property that will cash flow.     Build up your credibility  Not everyone has an established reputation, and that can make it scary to approach sellers. It’s important to have confidence, and to mention any partners you have in the business who have more experience, and it’s also important to join the Better Business Bureau. It’s important to have ties to credibility.     The value of being investor vs. an agent It’s better to say you’re an investor with an offer to buy a house than it is to say you are a real estate agent saying you want to list their house. Guest Bio Chris Prefontaine is the best-selling author of 2017's Real Estate On Your Terms and this year's The New Rules of Real Estate Investing. Success in real estate investing all comes down to creative financing and the way we structure our deals. What tools do we need to see great results in our businesses? Where can we learn how to structure our deals more effectively? On this episode, bestselling author and industry veteran, Chris Prefontaine shares how we can make our mark in real estate investing.   3 Things We Learned  Structuring deals creatively can help us achieve a higher conversion rateThe tools we use in investing can be compared to actual tools on a construction site: a contractor simply can’t make any progress with only a hammer. We need a range of tools if we want to see results.  Find the right coach who knows about structuring dealsTo learn how to structure deals, we need to find a coach. Look for someone in the niche who you find relatable. It’s also vital that the person teaching us is still actively making deals and  involved in real estate. Relying on those who exited the industry even 5 years ago will get us into trouble, as techniques change frequently. Know your numbersKnowing our numbers is crucial, regardless of the industry we’re in. By constantly recording our progress and results, we’re able to find some predictability and plan more effectively for the future.   There are so many ways to buy the properties we want to invest in, so it only makes sense that we structure deals in a creative, hybridized way that ensure everyone involved gets what they want. However, to know how to structure these kinds of deals, we do need to be taught how to do it. Wholesaling, fixing and flipping are all businesses- let’s run them like the businesses they are, and equip ourselves as best we can.    Guest Bio-  Chris Prefontaine is the best-selling author of 2017's Real Estate On Your Terms and this year's The New Rules of Real Estate Investing. A real estate investor with over 27 years of experience in the field, Chris is the founder of Smart Real Estate Coach and host of the Smart Real Estate Coach Podcast. He lives in Newport, Rhode Island with his wife, Kim, and their family. Chris operates the family business with his son, Nick, his daughter, Kayla, his son-in-law, Zach, and an amazing team. Together, they are co-authoring the book: The New Rules of Real Estate Investing, to be released in 2019. Chris has been a big advocate of constant education. He and his family mentor, coach, consult, and actually partner with students around the country, teaching them to do exactly what their company does. Between their existing Associates nationwide and their own deals, Chris and his family are still acquiring 5-10 properties every month and control between $20 to $30 million dollars worth of real estate deals — all done on TERMS without using their own cash, credit, or signing for loans. Chris and his family believe strongly in giving back to the community. They currently support Franciscan Children’s Hospital in Brighton, MA, 3 Angels Foundation in Newport, RI, and the Wounded Warrior Project by giving a percentage of all deals to those causes. What you’ll learn about in this episode: In the first section of this three-part episode, Ted Thomas discusses the safe wealth-building strategies he employs in his own investments. He details the incentives local governments offer to encourage investors to purchase tax lien certificates, and he highlights the important key details you need to know to maximize your returns. He explains the fundamental differences between tax lien certificates and tax deeds, and he shares why his investment strategy is ideal for anyone who wants a risk-free investment strategy that offers far better returns than the banks will offer. In the second section of the podcast, Ted brings in Bill Williams to talk with him about tax lien certificates and tax deeds and to address some of the common questions and concerns first-time investors may have when entering this investing niche. Ted explains why this is an ethical investment strategy that helps the delinquent homeowner, helps the local government, and profits you as the investor. Bill and Ted discuss the process for finding and bidding on tax deeds and tax certificates. In the final portion of the episode, you will be introduced to master investor Chris Prefontaine. Chris uses an entirely different strategy for his real estate investments by purchasing properties on terms, and he is a top-level coach who teaches others to do exactly what he does. In this portion of the episode, you will learn: How Chris and his family team buy on “terms”, without using a bank or personal credit and without paying cash outright. Which three funding methods Chris uses, including lease purchasing, owner financing, and buying subject to the existing mortgage. How Chris got involved in real estate over 27 years ago, and how his business has evolved to use different effective strategies over time. How Chris’s family business is structured, and how his family came into the business organically over time. Chris explains how many deals his family does a month. How Chris’s strategy gives him three paydays per deal, and how much Chris and his family average per deal they complete. Chris gives a hypothetical example of how three paydays per deal works. How long it takes for Chris’s average student to learn to use his system, and why it is important to allow at least six months to see your first success. How Chris’s coaching works, and how Chris’s family members are as involved in the coaching system as they are the real estate investment business. Which types of people are the right fit for Chris’s investor community, and what criteria Chris and his team look for in applicants. How the 2008 real estate market crash affected Chris’s business, and what steps he and his family team took to recover from the crash and then further scale their business. Rebekah and her son were spectating at the finish line of the Boston in Marathon in 2013 when those two fateful bombs exploded. She may have lost part of her leg- but 68 operations later, she has gained a whole new insight on “counting her blessings, not her problems.” Instead of being defined by this one event she has used it as a catalyst to make PTSD training available for children all over the country through her foundation Rebekah’s Angels. She says very few have to deal with a bomb exploding near them, but many people deal with things in their life blowing up everyday- her resilience is marked by her joyful determination to inspire others and help them get the treatments they need. Tom Cunningham (too tall) interviews Cal's Angels Founder Tom Sutter. Tom Sutter is a multi-threat professional – the serious job that pays the bills, the fun job that pays the heart, a published author and inspirational speaker.  At Crum-Halsted Insurance in Sycamore, Illinois, Tom is the Vice President of Sales & Business Development which involves the recruiting, training and development of insurance producers while maintaining and growing his own book insurance business. After losing their oldest of seven children, Cal, to leukemia at the age of 13,  Tom and his wife co-founded Cal’s Angels a non-profit organization located in South Elgin, Illinois, that grants the wishes of children battling cancer and financially assists their families. Tom is the president of the organization and his duties include chief fundraiser, branding and marketing. Since 2007 Cal’s Angels has raised over $2,000,000 after expenses allowing them to assist over 600 pediatric cancer families. All of Tom’s life experiences provided the impetus to write a book “Bitter or Better – Crushing Life’s Losses Into Victories” based on the principle that no matter what life throws at you there is no reason to let anything but you and your mind control your destiny. #alwayschoosebetter http://www.calsangels.org/
