Every cleaning business owner eventually faces the dreaded moment when they must decide whether to keep struggling with a difficult employee or let them go. This raw, candid conversation dives deep into the realities of employee termination, offering practical wisdom for those agonizing over toxic workplace situations. We have all worked in a toxic environment at one point in our working careers. We also share the precise warning signs that indicate it's time to part ways with staff members – from the employee who consistently gives "underpaid vibes" complaints to those who damage client relationships through poor communication. The unmistakable red flag? There is also a reference to Dan Kennedy, ad copy guru, he has a famous saying for when it's time to part ways with a client's that mis behave. "When you find yourself waking up three mornings in a row thinking about an employee problem. As the saying goes, if they're consuming that much mental space and you're not sleeping together, it's time for them to go."The cornerstone of successful termination is proper documentation. We walk through exactly what this means: starting with verbal warnings (which you must document in your calendar), followed by written documentation, and finally termination if behaviors don't improve. Without this crucial paper trail, you're vulnerable to unemployment claims that can significantly increase your tax burden. Beyond the legal considerations, we explore the human elements of termination – conducting the conversation in a public place rather than your home office, ensuring you have a witness present, providing final payment properly documented as "last and final pay," and maintaining the employee's dignity throughout the process. Your approach during these difficult moments not only protects your business legally but preserves your reputation in the community.Listen for crucial distinctions between handling W-2 employees versus 1099 contractors, state-specific employment laws you must know, and strategies for preventing problem employees from contaminating your entire team culture. Managing staff effectively isn't just about finding great cleaners – it's about creating systems that protect your business when relationships don't work out. This is not the book that mentions the Dan S Kennedy quote, but it is an interesting topic: https://amzn.to/4ld7Owg or here: https://amzn.to/4iKZp1cSend us a text It can be crowed when trying to figure out who you are going to learn from Erica Paynter is the brains behind My Virtual Bookkeeper, a bookkeeping firm for cleaning companies, and the creator of Clean Co. The year was 1954, long before Facebook ads packages were invented. A baby boy was born to a nameless couple in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. This baby boy went on to become a copywriter and finally a multimillionaire. The name of this baby born who came into the world in December of 1954 is Dan S. Kennedy. Dan is the founder of Magnetic Marketing® and Renegade Millionaire®. So, what does this have to do with Facebook Ads packages? Well, before answering that question let me know if you are struggling with the following: You are a course creator looking to get more eyeballs on your offers Running Facebook ads is scary and apprehensive for you You've tried running Facebook ads before but got no results Your course is in the make money online or personal development space If only there was a way to ace Facebook ads so that you can generate 6-figures with your signature offers. In this post, you'll learn about the various types of Facebook Ads packages and what you need to be aware of in order to get real results in your business. In a hurry? Check out the Facebook Marketing Packages here. Facebook Ads Statistics Before looking at those Facebook advertising packages let's spend some time looking at the current statistics for this social media platform. There are currently 2.9 billion monthly active users on Facebook globally. Did you know that, according to Databox, 92% of marketers have said that Facebook advertising is effective in generating sales? This might be surprising given the fact that some course creators say that Facebook ads don't work. Another surprising statistic is that 70% of marketers say that Facebook is still an effective channel for organic marketing. I have a local client, a hairdresser, that continues to use Facebook to generate leads organically via his business page (okay, I confess, I'm managing the page and he has no idea how it's done). In terms of lead flow, 15% of marketers say that their leads originate from Facebook (affectionately known as Meta). If you've been exposed to Facebook ads for a while you'll know that the key metric for marketers is Return on Ad Spend (ROAS). What you probably did not know is that 82.9% of marketers surveyed are getting at least 4x Return on Ad Spend. This goes to show that digital advertising or online advertising really works to get new customers. What's even more surprising is that some of these marketers are getting higher than 30 times Return on Ad Spend. You're probably thinking that their cost per acquisition (CPA) is quite high. However, nothing could be further from the truth because as many as 50% of them have reported a CPA of $25 or less. According to Hootsuite, the lowest cost CPC is during the first quarter of the year whilst the highest cost is during the holiday season with an average CPC of 0.50. So, what is their secret? I'm glad you asked. Closely Guarded Facebook Ads Secrets Now, let's spend some time looking at what these marketers are doing to get mind-blowing results! Remember the short story about Dan? Well, the whole idea behind being a Renegade Millionaire® is that you don't do what everyone else is doing. What??? But if you don't follow the rules laid down by Facebook then you'll risk getting your Facebook page, account or ad account banned! Spoiler alert! If you follow the rules there are no guarantees that you'll not get banned either. Lol!!

In this episode, Joel, and Andy explain why great salespeople understand that selling is all about listening to someone´s problems and desires. Then, providing solutions. Something very few people do. So, those entrepreneurs that do take the time, sell when others fail to do so. Joel and Andy provide guidance on how to listen properly, research your audience and use the right language in your copy. KEY TAKEAWAYS Problem-solving is a powerful selling tool. Selling is serving. Figure out the problem you solve. Point out the problem. Show how you solve it with proof. Never present people with too many choices. It only confuses. Don´t babble on about all of the features. Instead, focus on the one or two that solve that person´s problem. If you realize that you genuinely cannot help someone, say so and do it quickly. You´ve got two ears and one mouth, use them in that ratio. Learn about copywriting and keep practicing to improve. Use short sentences to make your copy easy to digest. If possible, you want to be sending emails to your list at least once a week. You are not bugging someone if you are providing real value. Things change, which means your copy has to be constantly reviewed and updated. When you are 85, 90% happy with your copy just get it out there. Get a fresh perspective before publishing your copy. BEST MOMENTS ‘Bad copy can do more harm than good.' ‘Put yourself in your potential customer´s shoes.' ‘The more you give the more you get. Provide value.' ‘In terms of copywriting if you´re aiming for perfect, you are going to be sorely disappointed.' We also talk about how he got ahead in the fast-changing business world and how to solve business problems effectively. If you're looking to take your business marketing to the next level, this episode will be of great value to you! Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Discover the importance of having situational awareness. Learn the concept of the theory of constraints and how you can leverage it in your business. Find out how you can go platinum in marketing your business. The Millionaire Marketing Mentor's Million-Dollar Blueprint Moving to the U.S. from Poland Adam says that he was "young and stupid" when he came to the U.S. He moved to the U.S. in 1989, around the time the Polish communist government ended and democratic elections began. His motivation was to escape the no-opportunity mentality and make his way elsewhere. Another thing was Poland's three-year mandatory military service. Adam came to the U.S. with only 194 bucks with limited English speaking skills. Figuring Things Out "Survival of the fittest" defined Adam's journey: he was a high school graduate with no skills. It took him around three to four months to find his bearings. Listen to the episode to know how Adam turned 50 cents into $5 multiple times a day by installing peepholes! Most people become entrepreneurs because of their academic and educational background. They always wait for someone else to permit them. One of the things that got Adam ahead is claiming to be something and proving it. Not learning quickly enough was not an option. If he waited to get training or get certifications, he would have starved. Adapting to the Fast-Changing World The top-paying jobs and marketing innovations today didn't exist years ago. It would be best if you had situational awareness of what's going on in your marketplace. You can always get ahead and do well for yourself with this awareness. Adam takes quotes that people take for granted and find what they mean for him. He asks about business, “Are you where the puck is, or are you heading where the puck is going?” Listen to the full podcast to learn how Adam relates the quote to business adaptation! The Biggest Challenges Adam Faced The minor things are not speaking English and not having money, connections, and education. The major challenge was being lazy and wanting to be rich. The best entrepreneurs are lazy. They're always looking for a better way to accomplish something, driving them to create new solutions. Adam thinks that he hasn't come across his biggest challenge yet. He calls himself the optimistic realist. Another greatest challenge is himself and his way of thinking. The skills you've got may also be what's hindering you from going to a million-dollar level. Solving a Problem You cannot solve a problem with the same level of thinking awareness that created the problem in the first place. From your vantage point, you may only be seeing limited solutions to your problems. The key is to engage in activities driven by where you want to be, not from where you are. When you feel stuck in a problem, think about it as if you were in a different place. Moving away from the problem and gaining a new perspective can show you the opportunity behind the problem. Gaining Wisdom from Books For Adam, our way of thinking is 95% of the foundation that decides whether we succeed or fail. Some of the first skills an entrepreneur must master in marketing is selling and persuasion. He has his team read the book The Secret of Selling Anything by Harry Browne. It says that everything is about the exchange that gives us more happiness. The book teaches you present offers that make prospects see them as a pathway to happiness rather than spending money. Tune in to the full podcast to discover Adam's favourite books! Adam's Biggest Mistakes and Lessons One of the biggest mistakes is not reaching out for help fast enough. Being a fast learner created an illusion of not needing support for Adam. He can only reverse engineer what he sees in other people's programs, not what he doesn't. Tune in to the podcast to hear Adam's Ferrari analogy! His biggest mistakes: not generating a process and not looking at someone who was doing it better and reaching out. Our perception of investment is the higher the amount, the greater the risk. However, the risk is the same, whatever the amount, and as a result, it trips us up. The price you charge has less to do with your methodology and more with the client's potential for gains. Theory of Constraints Put together a triangle. You have three constraints if you want to be at any one of the corners. These three constraints are cheapness, speed, and quality. You can never have all three. Customers who want to get things done faster with the least amount of energy understand that it requires increased investment. Going Platinum in Marketing Creativity often leads to distraction. Some entrepreneurs are more excited about the idea of what isn't than what is. Adam shares the concept of going platinum in marketing the business with his clients. It roots in the music industry, in which Adam gives an in-depth example in the podcast. One of Adam's most popular programs is Attract Clients Like Crazy. He promoted it for a decade and held a webinar every week with different promotional partners. The mistake of most creatives is creating something new instead of finding a better marketing strategy to promote what they have. Tune in to the podcast to hear how Adam's clients found success in going platinum! What's Next for Adam He's working on putting together better promotional materials for his existing marketing programs. Adam focuses on teaching marketing to people through three things: consistency, redesigning the delivery method, and prospect persuasion. His commitment to his coaching business is only two hours a week. The value is measured by the results, not the time they spend working. Unveil the path for a prospect to decide to invest in themselves and get access to your solutions. What will make prospects happier is either gain something that will improve their ways or eliminate a problem. 5 Powerful Quotes from the Episode “I had no skills, I had no title, I had no education. So I couldn't rely on this. I basically had to go and claim to be something or someone and just prove that I am it.” “The skill he was teaching them was situational awareness. Like you can't just be a solo player in the pool amongst other players, you have to be there and you realize you're part of the entire pool. So even though you're swimming with a ball, and whatever you are, whatever you're doing at the moment, you've got to be aware where the rest of your teammates are, where the opponent is. So you've got to be aware of the entire pool. Because if you don't, you're gonna get crushed, you're gonna get you know, your balls gonna be taken away from you, you're gonna be blocked, you've got to be aware of the whole thing.” “I really believe that whatever we undertake, 95% of the foundation that decides whether or not we will succeed or fail is really our thinking. “When I want to get something done, I'm looking at who is already doing it successfully, that I know that I can get proof that it's done, that they're doing it ten times better than I am, and reaching out and say look, you know, how you're doing this or here's what I'm doing, how can I infuse some of what you've learned into what I'm doing to expedite the results. “And one thing that people don't realize, (is) that the price that you get to charge for what you do has less to do with you, your methodology, the quality of what you do, and nearly everything to do with the prospective clients, potential for gains.” About Adam Adam Urbanski, also known as The Millionaire Marketing Mentor®, is a marketing strategist who has coached 30,000 business owners. We are back with another episode of the Undeniable Level Up Podcast. Last week we discussed extreme ownership. We heard an amazing speech from former Navy Seal Jocko Willink, who hosts an amazing podcast. It was actually one of the first podcasts that I ever listened too. We will provide a link in the show notes if you want to go and check him out. Today, we are going to talk about the rules. And why rules are for stupid people. Dr. House from the television show, "House" is fond of saying, "Rules are just helpful guidelines for stupid people…". Q: Would you agree with Dr. House? So I was first exposed to the "Rules are for stupid people" philosophy when I was deployed to Afghanistan during my first tour, between 2008 and 2009. I deployed there as part of an advisory MiTT Team. Our call sign was Vampires and I was Vampire 4. We were known as Team Vampires. We were deployed to the Paktika Province, a small outpost called Forward Operating Base, or FOB Bermel. For my Vampire brothers out there that may be tuning in, I miss you guys! There are bonds that are forged in combat that can't be broken by time or distance. The mission of a MiTT team is to serve as combat advisors to Afghan and Iraqi combat troops so that they can continue the counterinsurgency mission long after we are gone. Our job was to "build an Army". The only problem is that this is a mission typically reserved for Special Operations units. These are typically heavily resourced teams with priority support that allow them to operate independent and with disregard of the battlefield owner's control. MiTT teams on the other hand were severely under-resourced, lacked any type of priority and often fumbled throughout the battlefield space struggling to reach higher echelon leadership. We were often outside of commz, unable to gain air support and riding solo throughout some of the most treacherous geography that Afghanistan has to offer. When we traveled, we often traveled with two MRAPs, three U.S. Soldiers per MRAP; a driver, a tank commander, or T.C., typically the highest ranking person in the vehicle and then the Gunner. Oh yeah, and an Afghan Interpreter. The team was rank heavy with mostly Captains and Senior enlisted non-commissioned officers and few junior Soldiers for a total of six to 200 - 400 Afghan Soldiers in Hilux Pickup trucks. Our team leader was a Major, and on our team, that was MAJ Mike. This dude was fearless when it came to moving with the Afghans. There was a mission that we were on once where an Afghan commander, enraged for whatever reason, began to beat one of his Soldiers with the butt of his AK47, pulling him out fo the back of the Hilux Pickup. We were in the middle of a convoy at the time, we hadn't gotten our MRAPs yet, so we re in armored Humvees, and I was on the .50 Cal machine gun when MAJ Mike jumps out and rushes over to stop the commander from beating his Soldier to death. I tried to stop him, but he wasn't having it. The whole time I had the .50 cal trained on the Afghans knowing that if they responded aggressively toward Mike that it would turn into Custer's last stand. Fortunately for us, Mike was able to de-escalate the situation, being the phenomenal diplomat that he is.I say all of that and share that story to set the tone for what happened when I challenged one of MAJ Mike's decisions. I can't remember the context of the discussion. I just remember telling him, "We can't do that, it's against the rules," to which he responded, "Rules are for stupid people!" Now, let that sink in, the same way I did, when I first heard it. Q: What do you think about small pearl of wisdom? Ray A. Davis says, "Following all the rules leaves a completed checklist. Following your heart achieves a completed you." (Discuss the quote) As I returned from my first deployment to Afghanistan, I had been doing some consulting there on contracts for the local contractors that were building roads, guard towers and buildings on our small outpost for free. They would bring me government proposals and ask me to interpret them so that they can submit bids. When I redeployed back to the U.S., I began getting emails from these same contractors, asking if I could take some time to assist them with these proposals. This was the point at which my first official business was born. JLM Consulting provided consulting on government contracts for Afghan Construction Contractors. My services were free, and I was only compensated when the contractor was awarded a contract that I had consulted on and helped prepare. This made me a lot of money, very quickly. "Rules are for stupid people," is equivalent to "legal opportunism". This is the act of circumnavigating the law. Operating in the gray areas between what is black and white. Sometimes this can be a moral sticky ground. When someone is using this philosophy to live their lives, they aren't breaking the rules, they are just bending them to a point where it is advantageous. Q: Have you ever had to bend a rule to capitalize on a situation? In an article titled, "Why Entrepreneurs Say Rules Shouldn't Apply To Them", author, Derek Ludlow states that entrepreneurs are "prone to breaking or ignoring the rules". He calls out both Uber and AirBNB for using rule breaking for creating their multi-billion dollar companies. Uber has been sued by multiple cab companies and taxi commissions around the world, saying that they do not follow the rules that apply to Taxi Cabs. I know recently in California the state ruled that Uber was misclassifying their drivers as independent contractors instead of as employees in order to avoid increased costs due to benefit requirements. Additionally, AirBNB has received complaints from hotels for not having to pay hotel tax fees, which drive up costs for hotels versus AirBNBs. Q: Do you believe that entrepreneurs should be exempt from rules or be allowed to bend rules in order to drive innovation? In the cannabis industry, we have federal regulations that still make cannabis an illegal substance, but states have approved both medicinal and recreational use. Oregon just recently opened the flood gates to almost all illegal drugs to include heroin. Q: Should businesses be profiting from a business structure that has traditionally resulted in criminal punishment? What about the fact that these laws often targeted minority communities, but the entry into most of these markets are so difficult that most of those victimized by these rules, cannot participate in them legally. Q: Do you operate from a "Seek forgiveness, not permission", or are you a permission seeker when it comes to your entrepreneurial spirit? Q: What rules should never be bent or broken from a business or entrepreneurial perspective? The following three (3) CEOs are known for being rule breakers: Jenny Fleiss - CEO of Jetblack, a dress rental business raised over $200M in venture capital…WITHOUT A BUSINESS PLAN! Jeff Raider - CEO of Harry's men's grooming product. They started in 2013 with NO CAPITAL AND NO FACTORIES and grew their business as the demand grew. Payal Kadakia - CEO of Classpass launched a her company, a platform that allows members to book fitness classes…BEFORE SHE HAD THE PLATFORM BUILT. The following three (3) companies got ahead by breaking rules: AirBNB - In order to grow supply for their service, they turned to Craigslist, contacting people who had listed their homes for rent and asked them to list on AirBNB. TOMS - A shoe seller sold shoes from a residential apartment, hiding it from his landlady. Dropbox - Sold their product before they were done building it to test out the market demand. Read: Dan Pierce, from Single Dad Laughing says, “Most rules are made by people with no authority who want to control and limit you from reaching your true potential. Ignore them, break their rules, and wave at them as you soar past them to greatness.” It's time to level up and stop allowing yourself to be constrained by the boxes that have been designed to keep business owners, entrepreneurs and leaders from reaching greatness. Anyone who has achieved significant success, has done so by bending and occasionally breaking a rule or two. How do you call yourself an out-of-the-box thinker, if you've always been to afraid to get out of the box. If you're ready to start breaking some rules and getting ahead, I encourage you to read the book, "How to Succeed in Business By Breaking All the Rules, A Plan for Entrepreneurs", by Dan S. Kennedy. This book gives you the understanding of how to become comfortable in the gray in order to climb out of the red and stay in the black. KEATON WALKER In September of 2018, Keaton Walker started working as a marketing manager for a local company in SLC, Utah. The only problem? He was…uh…not very good. (In his defense, he had no experience). After months of trial and error, he got somewhat better. And eventually, he was actually pretty good! Contrary to popular belief, the price you charge for your products and services is NOT tied together!.......This may be one of the main reasons you’re not charging those higher tier rates that you know you deserve. This comes from one of my favorite books by Dan S. Kennedy called No B.S. Marketing to the Affluent. It's called this the Price-Product Link and how restrictive this is in getting those higher tier rates and engagements. Price is not tied to your product or service and as soon as you disconnect those two things in your own mind about your own products and services, you’ll be liberated to make a great deal more money and to have much greater success appealing to affluent customers or clients. There are very few people who had a bigger impact on our lives outside of our parents than Dan S. Kennedy. A couple of weeks ago, we got the news that he's in hospice care and we wanted to record an episode of The Your Life! Your Terms! Show in his honour. He taught us so much about business, marketing, money, wealth and life that perhaps our debt to him can never be repaid. We feel so blessed that he was a mentor to us over the years via mastermind groups, his monthly newsletters, audios, event, courses, conferences and beyond. He was blunt, very to the point and often grumpy. But, his intent and heart has always been pure gold. Hopefully, we're able to pass on some of what we learned from him in these areas. You can pick up any of his books by heading over to Amazon.ca and punching in: Dan S. Kennedy or check out more of the No B.S. Inner Circle business at www.NoBSInnerCircle.com.
This episode is a tribute to Dan S. Kennedy, a man who has impacted me so thoroughly - it's hard to put into words all the ways my thinking and life have changed through the impact of Dan's work.

Today's episode is a special one, because I'm talking with my longtime mentor, Dan Kennedy, a marketing 'guru' and champion for small business. I first met Dan in 1996 and initially bought his Magnetic Marketing® system. Since then, I have read every book he has authored, attended countless seminars both in person and via audio, became a member of his Mastermind Group and off-and-on worked with him as a private client. His No BS Newsletter has been my go-to source for information and inspiration for the past 22 years. On this episode we're discussing the principles found in Dan's book, No BS Ruthless Management of People and Profits, and its message: Solid People + Structured Programs = Massive Profits In a time when many business owners are having difficulty finding and keeping good people, this message is especially relevant. In this episode we'll be discussing: How we've shifted to an employee-controlled market; The workplace environment that breeds winners; Why ruthless management is actually common sense management; Why structured programs - that everyone follows - are vital to your success; The importance of maintaining a long-term relationship with your customers and 3 metrics to measure the quality of yours. You shouldn't be struggling in today's economy - you should be thriving and preparing your business for long-term success through people, processes, customer relationships and sound finances. If you're not, you'll want to pay special attention to Dan's advice in this episode. Co-hosts Jan Rutherford and Jim Vaselopulos interview Jim Palmer, a marketing and business-building expert, and in-demand coach. The author of five books, Jim is best known internationally as The Newsletter Guru, and creator of No Hassle Newsletters, the ultimate done-for-you newsletter marketing program used by hundreds of clients in nine countries. Jan and Jim talk with Jim Palmer about how he became a business leadership thought leader, and what that means to him; how he grew up with a worker servant mentality, and how he applies it today; some of the principles Jim teaches in Decide and his other books; and what his four pillars are for business success. To end of the interview, Jim and Jan ask for and receive some coaching of their own! Listen in to learn more about getting past your fears, serving without monetary reward, and achieving growth by building on the four pillars. Key Takeaways [3:27] If you put enough good information out there, with a servant attitude, giving value and helping people without expecting return, you get a reputation as a servant thought leader. [6:17] When Jim became an entrepreneur he remembered Sam Walton’s words about the customer’s power to fire everybody by deciding to spend somewhere else. In online marketing in 2006, everything was ‘free.’ If you are really giving, people gravitate toward you. Jim has a free download, “Serve First, How to Unlock a Life of Abundance and Purpose.” No email is needed. [10:32] Jim talks about his book, Decide. High achievers, when presented with a challenge or an opportunity, quickly assess the pros and cons, and then make a decision, yes or no, and act. They never go to ‘Squishyville,’ because business and life happen too quickly. [20:38] Jim’s four pillars of success are Knowledge, Environment, Mindset, and Habits, similar to the growth mindset sought for in special operators. In any field, there are the ordinary, and the high achievers. Very few qualify for the elite. You have to do things that others will not do. [22:45] Environment is space you create. To write, Jim picks the time, sits at his desk, and puts away all distractions. The only thing he wants to do is type what’s in his head. He can write for two or three hours. You have to be able to control the environment, in order to produce the result. [24:03] Mindset is much more important than perfecting your skill or talent. Some very top copywriters get 10 times what a normal copywriter gets. They don’t write 10 times better. Habits are self-evident. Rich people have big libraries, and poor people have big TVs. Have habits in place to make your priorities happen, and create and protect the environment to do it. [26:55] Knowledge for highly successful people means to own who they are; their strengths and limitations. They hire and delegate. To help his business, Jim joined a Mastermind. The leader asked, “What makes you think you’re entitled to the same level of success as these peers ... but you’re not willing to do the same things that they’re doing to grow their business?” [30:23] The idea of a multi-day live event petrified Jim for a few reasons: picking the right date; renting space with food and beverage and a number of guest rooms guaranteed; and fear of disappointing attendees by forgetting how to present. He kicked his fears to the curb, and found out he’s pretty good at it, with five sold out. That’s when he began to accelerate significantly. [31:38] Dan Kennedy is the person most influential on Jim’s development. Dan is a blue-collar guy who built a multi-million dollar business, because he understands people, he understands marketing, and he’s not afraid of hard work. He does something everyday that will bear fruit down the road. Jim learned much about writing from reading Dan Kennedy’s books. [33:40] Jim gave coaching for The Leadership Podcast, which stands in its own unique space. He likes the back-and-forth. His greatest advice to Jim and Jan is to avoid adhering to a strict format and schedule of questions, but to have a lot of conversation starters, and to follow up on answers of interest. Get people to tell stories. Always focus on the listener, not the downloads. Quotable Quotes “I shot my first video in 2009, I had three watchers. I was one of them. My wife and my Mom, I think, were the other two.” “‘It’s no wonder he’s successful. Look at how much stuff he does.’ There’s a real nugget in there, if you think about it.” “We volunteer for three or four different local charities, which are near and dear to our heart.” “If you’re going to expect a big reward, you have to be willing to step up and risk.” “I really think this year is going to be a banner year.” “Rich people have big libraries, and poor people have big TVs.” Books Mentioned on the Show Sam Walton: Made In America, by Sam Walton and John Huey Decide: The Ultimate Success Trigger, by Jim Palmer Stop Waiting For It to Get Easier: Create Your Dream Business Now, by Jim Palmer No B.S. Shaun Buck – Customer Retention and Maximising Referrals Shaun Buck is the founder of Newsletter Pro, based in Boise, Idaho. A 5% needle move in customer retention is equal to an 80% increase in profits. Everyone is so focused on growth via new clients. But they rarely focus on the costs of acquisition. It is one of the most expensive things we do as business owners. Shaun said to himself that if he could get customers and keep them he'd make a whole lot more money. Customer retention became his focus Shaun talks of “tax free day” the day in the calendar that you work to before you've paid your taxes. In the US, it's around the 24 April. In the UK, per the Adam Smith Institute, it is a whole month later at the end of May! Shaun Applying this to customer retention for businesses. The “Day” for most businesses where new customers helps the bottom line is more like October, November or even December! This is because they get a new customer, then they lose a customer. It takes so long to grow that way. It is a drag on profits. So, a little time spent focusing on retention, not only helps you grow faster, but you'll see bigger profits. With existing customers, they already know, like and trust you. People don't typically give their money to people they DON'T know like and trust. Perry Belcher – an associate of Shaun's – “today we live in the single most difficult time to get a new customer, that's the bad news, but the good news is that it is the single best time to get a second sale.” Why do most customers leave? Rockefeller Institute study showed 67% of people leave because they feel the business doesn't care about them. They feel the business is indifferent to them. If the business doesn't care about you, and there is no relationship, then what is the determining factor for doing business with the company? Price. Without relationship, it is only price. Relationship and making your customers feel appreciated and valued and like they are being heard, that you are there to help them and you are on the same team, that's what keeps customers from leaving. Shaun doesn't expect to lose his customers. Last month, Shaun lost 1 from 400+ customers. He expects his customers to be with him for ever. He is realistic. People sell businesses, go out of business, come up on hard times, or they just decide they want to change approach. He sees his job is to minimise these things from happening – by relationship, by providing amazing service. Shaun figured all this out a long time ago. That apathy breeds attrition. In 2002/2003 he had a dry-cleaning company. One of the ways he got customers was going door to door every evening, signing them up, for his pick up and deliver dry-cleaning service. He said, that was brutal hard work. Shaun quickly realised he just didn't want to lose any of them. He needed to do everything he could to keep them. That was Shaun's start point in customer retention. What got Shaun into newsletters? The co-author of Shaun's book, Dan Kennedy, was an inspiration to Shaun. Shaun started reading Dan's books when 16/17 years old – around the late ‘90s. More recently Shaun has written about customer retention with Dan. No BS Guide to Maximum Referrals & Customer Retention – Dan S. Kennedy & Shaun Buck (Check it out on Amazon in UK http://amzn.to/2eL86wJ and in USA http://amzn.to/2g0kEwt ) Dan talked about newsletters. So, Shaun started using a newsletter to his dry-cleaning clients. But it was a pain in the butt to get out every month. Every time he sent out his newsletter, he got more referrals. Customers would give him good comments, leave him notes about it and enjoyed it! When Shaun was looking for a new business to setup, he figured that if newsletters were hard for him, it's got to be hard for everyone else too. Shaun's business – Newsletter Pro – was 120th last year in Inc. Magazine's Fastest Growth Privately Held US Companies 500. This year he is 343rd!

In this episode, Tyson and Jim talk about the advantages of internalizing concepts from other industries to make your own practice better. When you see something in another industry, instead of having a closed mindset, look at it, play around with it and see how you can internalize it and make it something you can use in your own practice. Learn from other industries, look for ideas to make you practice grow. There are many ways of doing it. Mastermind, Podcasts, Magazines. Take advantage from actual technologies, social networks, events, webinars, seminars. Improvise, try new things. There’s just an unlimited list of ideas you can get from other industries, and all you have to do is think about how you can apply it to your practice area. If you can, use it. If you can’t, then don’t use it. Simple. Add value to your practice. Hacking’s Hack: A website: https://ifttt.com/. You can set up rules and things that happen after certain events. Automate. Today's expert interview on The Flip Empire Show features Cris Chico. Cris was the first person to develop and perfect the concept of virtual real estate investing – the ability to do deals from anywhere in the world with just your laptop. Cris offers some advice on how you can stand out from the crowd and tells it like it is. Many new real estate investors are often looking for that one 'secret tip' to succeed, but Cris mentions that it is often a combination of things that takes your career to the next level. Key Takeaways: It's Alex's goal to over deliver on this podcast. Cris is the Godfather of wholesaling. What is virtual real estate investing? What is wholesaling? Who is Cris? How did he get started? Cris is the perfect example of failing and failing until he found something he was great at. How can you stand out from the crowd? Cris explains what is a blind approach to marketing. People who don't leave voice messages are also interested in what you have to offer. Call them back. Alex is in a competitive market, so he called Cris for advice on how he could increase his response rate. Think outside the box. How can you separate yourself from the competition? 7 out of 10 deals are coming from just the followups alone. Follow up! Most people have a sales and followup problem, not a lead generation problem. Nervous about making calls or failing? Alex explains how you can change your mentality. What are some of the common mistakes real estate investors make? You can listen/read a million resources, but if you don't take action it will all be useless. For Thursday's Q&A session, Alex discusses various ways you can get your marketing to stand out. He talks about some of the strategies he personally uses to get leads and also talks on why the follow up process is responsible for almost 70-80% of his deals. Listen in for more! Key Takeaways: On Monday's show, Alex mentioned that 70% of his deals come from the followup. On this week's Q&A show, Alex will be doing a deep dive on the followup process. Alex recommends that you read all of Dan Kennedy's books. Most people are walking around in a trance and your marketing needs to snap them out of it. You don't ask to marry someone on the first date. Letters don't have the same novelty these days and homeowners are bored of them too. Alex used Cris Chico's approach and he got close to a 25% response rate. What does Alex's marketing system look like? 70-80% of Cris's deals come from direct-mail marketing. There's a fine balance between how you space out your marketing resources. You want 20% of your efforts to generate 80% of your results. How does Alex set up his direct-mail system? Alex takes 20% of every deal and puts it back in his marketing budget. One of the things that separates Alex from his competitors is that he is always marketing. Be consistent with your marketing and your campaigns.
