They also cover a wild brief history of bad medical science including heroin cough syrup for kids, radioactive water prescribed for vitality, thalidomide causing 10,000 birth defects, Crisco replacing lard on doctor's orders, and OxyContin — and why historical context should make anyone skeptical of anyone who says "just trust the science." They also get into Adam taking his sons to Laguna Seca for Monterey Car Week, F1 driver athleticism and the physics of brake force at 120 pounds, how Sal uses Ketone IQ to extend his energy window past his caffeine cutoff, a new study showing red light therapy produced more fat loss than diet alone while improving lipids and inflammatory markers, a hydrogel wound healing technology that speeds recovery by 90%, and a nuanced breakdown of cold plunge data showing less muscle growth but potentially more training volume capacity. (3:00) He was really looking forward to catching up with a few people. Several years ago, Vinnie did an episode about a previous class reunion. (6:00) In that episode, he shared a lot of thoughts about classmates. He was concerned for classmates who appeared to have many health concerns at a relatively young age. At this reunion, however, he was pleased to see how many people were in better shape and health. It was also nice because the atmosphere among the guests was more relaxed. They discuss brunch the following day and the chaos that followed. (33:00) Are donuts and beignets really a breakfast food? Vinnie shares his experience while visiting his parents. (48:00) They went to a restaurant where Vinnie ordered something that seems pretty harmless. Vinnie drives a lot for his trips, and they discuss how a good road trip can be good for the soul. Greg brings you the best of today's Breakfast show, including a deep dive into whales!
You look in the mirror one morning and think, **Wait… what happened?** You're more tired than you used to be. Your waistline seems to have changed. You're waking up at 3 or 4 AM. Your brain feels a little foggier. You're having afternoon energy crashes. And somehow, your face looks more tired, too. So you go to your doctor. Your labs are “normal.” And that's when things get really frustrating. Because you know you don't feel the way you did five years ago. You haven't suddenly started eating junk food or stopped exercising. You're actually doing a lot of the things you've always done. So why do you feel like you've aged overnight? Here's the interesting part: **you probably didn't.** A lot of these changes can be building underneath the surface long before they show up on a standard blood test—or in the mirror. And one of the pieces I want you to understand is something we don't hear about: Insulin. Not just blood sugar. Insulin. Your fasting glucose and HbA1c can look perfectly fine while your body is working harder and harder to keep them that way. And if nobody is looking at what insulin is doing, you can miss an important piece of the puzzle. And get this, this is where the aging conversation gets really interesting. In this episode, I'm walking you through the connection between insulin resistance, metabolic inflexibility, inflammation, belly fat, cravings, energy crashes, fine lines, wrinkles, brain fog, and the changes that can make you feel like you're suddenly aging much faster than everyone around you. We'll also talk about why two women the same age can look and feel dramatically different—and why genetics aren't necessarily telling the whole story. And then I'm giving you a very simple **seven-day experiment** you can start tomorrow morning. No diet overhaul. No calorie counting. No fasting. No adding another hour of exercise. Just one change to your breakfast—and then paying attention to what happens to your cravings, energy, and focus over the next week. If you've been thinking, “Maybe this is just what getting older feels like,”I want you to listen to this one before you decide that's the answer. Sometimes what looks like aging is actually your body telling you that something is struggling to stay in balance. If you're loving the Pretty Well Podcast, would you do me a quick favor? Follow the show, leave a review, and share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. And if you want some protein-rich breakfast ideas to go along with the seven-day experiment, send me the word **BREAKFAST** and I'll get you the recipes. I love having you here. See you next week.

No script, no safe direction, and absolutely no guarantee where the conversation is going. The crew kicks things off with WNBA betting, Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and the increasingly bizarre trend of objects getting thrown onto basketball courts. From there, things quickly go off the rails with a discussion about Fast & Furious 11, Paul Walker, whether Tupac could somehow show up in the franchise, and just how far Hollywood can stretch a movie series before reality no longer matters. The conversation turns to politics, government spending, Washington D.C., American priorities, foreign policy, the midterm elections, beef recalls, wild horses, fake meat, and trying to figure out exactly what we're eating anymore. Mason also introduces the crew to MC Type's "Mansplaining," which leads into Ju Unit's massive archive of old songs, unfinished tracks, music videos, Bandcamp plans, and memories from the early days of making ridiculous videos. Later, the guys get into wine, steaks, Leonardo DiCaprio movies, Shutter Island, Secret Window, Inception, The Basketball Diaries, Bruce Lee movies, Neuralink, universal translators, AI, microplastics, The Walking Dead, Mitch McConnell, Snowfall, and why the first episode of Black Mirror is one hell of an introduction to a television series. It's sports, movies, music, technology, politics, conspiracy talk, inappropriate jokes, and completely unpredictable conversation—the way The Mason and Friends Show has been doing it for 1,057 episodes. This week, host Greta Johnsen talks with Ayurvedic doctor, coach, and podcast host Sweta Vikram, who "helps high achievers move through burnout, grief, and overwhelm."Today's episode is largely about perfectionism when it comes to rest. So many of us think that time off is an all-or-nothing deal -- take a long vacation, or be strung out and constantly in your email inbox. But Sweta encourages a gentle, incremental approach. Even 15 minutes of down time once or twice a day can make a big difference for your brain and body. Gambling and NFL betting The hosts spend a large portion of the episode discussing sports betting, especially NFL futures and Super Bowl odds. One host favors betting based on personal judgment rather than elaborate parlays, while the others encourage more aggressive strategies. They discuss betting small amounts across multiple NFL teams to increase the chance of hitting a long-shot winner. A specific idea emerges: bet roughly $2.30–$2.69 on around 30–32 teams, with the goal of spending about $69 total and potentially benefiting if a long-shot team wins the Super Bowl. They also discuss FanDuel and Bet365, including differences in available betting options and player statistics. The group jokes about tracking their wins and losses throughout the NFL season. 2. Propane delivery/service work One host describes working with propane tanks and the problems caused when customers allow tanks to run empty. Emergency service can involve additional charges because technicians must perform leak checks, pressure tests, and other procedures before refilling a completely empty tank. Customers are often surprised by these fees, leading to frustration and complaints. The hosts argue that companies should be more transparent when selling propane systems, explaining ongoing maintenance requirements, fuel costs, emergency charges, and the value of monitoring systems. They discuss practical challenges technicians face, including frozen or poorly designed tank enclosures, limited workspace, rusty fittings, difficult regulators, and installations that make servicing unnecessarily difficult. A recurring point is that customers should understand how to monitor and maintain their systems rather than waiting until they completely run out of fuel. 3. Rising costs and customer frustration The conversation broadens into the increasing cost of goods and services. They note that customers often blame employees for high prices even though employees don't control pricing. One customer reportedly switched most of their home heating to a heat pump after receiving an unexpectedly high propane-related bill, keeping propane only as a backup. The hosts agree that prices rarely return to previous levels once they increase. 4. Food and Bucky's The group discusses Buc-ee's and one host's recent experience there. Several items receive strong praise, including a peanut-butter chocolate candy, seasoning, blueberry cream soda, and other food. Banana pudding and some desserts receive negative reviews. They describe Bucky's as more than a gas station: a massive convenience store with food, merchandise, candy, jerky, fudge, bathrooms, and numerous gas pumps. The overall verdict is that Bucky's is a worthwhile stop when traveling, even if not every product is exceptional. 5. Local food The hosts recommend several local food spots, particularly places known for fried fish, chicken, barbecue, country cooking, and pie. They complain about slow service at one barbecue restaurant while praising other smaller establishments for consistently good food. Food quality, portion sizes, freshness, and value are recurring themes. 6. Cocktails and drinking The hosts briefly discuss cocktails, especially Long Islands and martinis. They talk about the difference between shaken and stirred martinis, including the idea of avoiding excessive agitation or “bruising.” A cocktail show they watched is mentioned as interesting because it explained the science behind temperature, dilution, shaking, and stirring. 7. Comedic tangent about environmental exposure A long, increasingly absurd section discusses being around airborne mist/fumes at outdoor events while eating. The conversation becomes deliberately ridiculous, using exaggerated jokes about avoiding food contamination and choosing where to eat at festivals. This section is primarily comedic rather than informational. Overall takeaway The episode is intentionally unstructured and conversational, with the hosts jumping rapidly between subjects rather than following a planned format. The strongest substantive discussions are about sports betting strategy and the realities of propane service, while the rest of the episode provides humorous commentary on food, travel stops, rising prices, cocktails, and everyday experiences. The episode ultimately ends by encouraging listeners to keep working toward their goals, listen to older episodes, like/share/subscribe, and keep grinding, while jokingly returning to the recurring “$69 across the NFL” betting idea.
Discover the truth behind nutrition myths, intuitive eating, whole foods, sugar cravings, and simple strategies for healthier, sustainable eating. Carrots are bad. Avocados are bad. Don't eat egg yolks. Eat every two hours. Go gluten free. Detox with tea. As long as you stay under your calories, you're fine. Every single one of those is wrong. And Dr. Terri and Elizabeth DiMeo are done watching people make themselves miserable following food advice from people who have no business giving it. In this episode they go myth by myth through the top ten dietary rules that need to be retired — and replace each one with what the science actually says. From why a calorie is absolutely not a calorie, to why your gluten sensitivity may disappear entirely when you travel to Italy, to why organic crackers are still just crackers — this is the food conversation your patients, your family, and your social media feed desperately need. They close with a practical breakdown of the Dirty Dozen and Clean 15 — the Environmental Working Group's ranked list of which produce you should always buy organic and which ones you don't need to worry about — plus a simple baking soda and vinegar wash that removes pesticide residue from non-organic produce when organic isn't in the budget. Simple. Practical. No nonsense. This is what intuitive eating actually means. What you'll discover: Why a 230-calorie Snickers bar and a 230-calorie serving of broccoli are not remotely the same thing — and what "food is communication" actually means [03:20] Why fat doesn't make you fat — and what actually does [06:01] The difference between starchy and non-starchy carbohydrates — and why broccoli, arugula, and artichokes are all technically carbs [08:22] Why gluten sensitivity in the US may have nothing to do with gluten — and everything to do with glyphosate and hybridized wheat [13:36] Why skipping meals slows your metabolism — and what your body actually needs to detox every single day [17:45] The myth of eating every two to three hours — and what 100 years of human eating patterns tell us about snacking [19:59] Why organic automatically means healthy is one of the most dangerous myths in the grocery store [25:16] Why all inflammation does not come from food — and the overlooked sources most people never address [25:43] The Dirty Dozen and Clean 15: which produce to always buy organic, which ones you don't need to, and the $0 baking soda wash that removes pesticide residue [27:32] Real food.
