Fossil fuels kill about 8 million people every single year, which is more than the populations of Aotearoa and most of the remaining Pacific Islands put together.Nuclear power, though - it's the one that evokes all of that terror and fear, and, well, fair enough because radiation sickness is terrifying. But I am fascinated by nuclear energy ever since I found out that Chernobyl happened on my birthday, albeit the year before I was born, but still - fascinating. The big fact is that nuclear is a far safer way to create energy than fossil fuels. So it begs the question: if nuclear energy's fatality rate is orders of magnitude lower than coal's, why are we still burning coal like it's 1890?To get into this, I'm doing a 4-part series on nuclear power, and to start with, I'll be discussing what it actually is.In this episode I share:What is an atom, what's it made of and how can they be changedHow atoms can become reactiveWhat nuclear reactions are and the creation of isotopesThe two types of radiationWhat the 4 main types of ionising radiation areNeutrons and their role in radiation and nuclear reactorsThe fear and danger that comes with radiationKey Quotes“Ionising radiation can knock electrons out of DNA molecules and that is what ultimately can lead to cancer.”“Ultimately radiation is if the neutron to proton ratio in an atom isn't balanced, it calms itself by emitting energy.”Find our full podcast via the website here:https://www.nowthatswhaticall.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nowthatswhaticallgreen/You can follow me on socials on the below accounts.Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/briannemwest/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@briannemwestLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/briannemwest/For our latest big project, find out more about Incrediballs here: https://incrediballs.com/

My case for why blockchain technology will be the number one disrupter of the contact center and CX over the next 10 years.Blockchain will be:Streamlining paymentsTaking away processing feesMaking Warranties seamlessContracts will be written on the chain with If/then statementsCustomer data will be encrypted overhauling how we verify customersCustomer loyalty plans will be forever changedHow we pay for and access SaSS products will never need a monthly credit card.Think about an NFT, written in the blockchain that a customer pays for to never wait in the queue, like an EZ pass for waiting in line at an amusement park. All this is coming soon. Written by Codie Sanchez ...She saw children being sold into slavery in Cambodia and she said enough... It all started with a little girl named Nomi. This little girl had been through things one can hardly imagine halfway across the world. Thankfully she met Diana Mao and Diana instead of continuing on her lucrative and successful track as a consultant became the President and Co-Founder of Nomi Network. She saw children being sold into slavery in Cambodia and she said enough. What does that mean? Well Diana is a modern day gladiator. She's an abolitionist whose mission is to ensure the complete end of human trafficking in her lifetime. This small of frame, but not of mind, human rights champion and I talk about:The moment her life changedHow she manages international teams across multiple countriesAll while contributing to Reuters, HuffPostAlso being a Presidential Leadership ScholarHow to create a non-profit in a way that makes an impact and is sustainable. What makes a successful partnershipHow to handle international crises. Her story is the kind that gives you chills. AND inspires you to do more. She's an abolitionist whose mission is to ensure the complete end of human trafficking in her lifetime. I dare you to read their origin story and not be inspired… “Nomi Network's namesake is an eight-year-old survivor of sex trafficking who now lives in a supportive partner shelter in Cambodia. Co-founders Diana Mao and Alissa Moore first met Nomi on a visit in 2008. As a child living in a rural village, Nomi was sexually abused by multiple perpetrators and was treated worse than an animal. She has physical scars, but also emotional scars from her abuse which will pose major challenges to her living independently and reintegrate back into society. Nevertheless, Nomi has grown into a beautiful young woman, with a warmth that's contagious and a generous heart. It was through her friendship and resilience that we realized that she did not have to be defined by her past, but that she could be defined by her future. Nomi Network exists so that survivors will be able to say with confidence, know me, know my story, know my success.” Nomi Network exists so that survivors will be able to say with confidence, know me, know my story, know my success. So if you are searching for meaning, impact, a life to help or a change to make this is the episode for you.So without further ado please enjoy my conversation with Diana Mao.
