Today we are joined by Tarini Menezies and Roxann DeSouza, graduates of the Shanti Yoga Training School and currently based in India. Tarini and Roxanne are here to discuss what we can do as a community to step up and help India, giving back, and what yoga means to them today. Tarini and Roxann are yoga teachers based in Mumbai. Tarini was brought to yoga by her high-stress job in law. For Tarini, yoga is a way to channel anxiety and stress in a more helpful way. For Roxanne, this past year yoga has been a way to cope with anxiety for both old and new practitioners. When the pandemic started in India in January 2020, much like everywhere else, people didn't think it would be a big deal. Within a few weeks the country was in a lockdown that lasted for months. In January of 2021, the country started slowly opening up again. Since then, things have taken a drastic turn for the worse. Cases began increasing at a drastic rate, with variant cases appearing more often and more aggressively. There was also a huge increase in children and young people getting sick, along with people getting COVID-19 for the second time.  Yoga is about mindfulness - bring that mindfulness outside of yourself to the greater world and give back. On 28 June 1914 the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir apparent to the Austrian Empire, at Sarajevo in Bosnia was the main cause of World War-1 (1914-18).  Tension between the major European power had, however, been growing for some time, fuelled mainly by Germany's ambition to be the major power in Europe and as a competitor to Britain in Commerce and trade. This had led to the formation of two power blocks in Europe, the Triple Alliance of Germany, Austria and Hungary; and the Triple Entente of England, French and Russia. Few would have imagined that the pistol shots in Sarajevo would lead to a brutal four year war and would draw in most of the world. Last of all did the Indian Army expect to be pulled out of fighting Pathans to fighting Germans and the Turks. The Indian Army, at the start of World War-II (1939-45), had a strength of 1,94,373 personnel; just a little more than at the start of World War-I.  In the Western Desert, in Eritrea and Italy, Indian Divisions engaged the Germans and Italians. The 4th, 5th and 8th Indian Divisions distinguished themselves in a series of hard-fought campaigns. A time came when the British 8th Army depended on the 4th Division to crack up Axis formations in their long and final retreat. “There are no winners in an war  and it only brings destruction .” Tune in to know bravery of Indian Army in World wars in this episode  Jai Hind  Comment what you thought about the episode. आज के FYI की पेशकश Queer Me Up में बात होगी online dating की। इसलिए हमने बात की सुनाली अग्रवाल से जो LGBTQA+ समुदाय के लिए एक exclusive dating app लाईं हैं - As You Are। For As YouAre: https://asyouare.in/ To donate for Give India in the Corona Pandemic: www.tinyurl.com/podforchange

The distinguished history of Indian Army dates back more than ten thousand years. The two grand epics of ‘Ramayana' and ‘Mahabharata' constitute the fundamental framework around which the edifice of Indian Army is built.  Though innumerable wars have been fought thereafter, most were in quest of universal peace and ‘dharma'. Recourse to arms was only taken when peace was threatened. In fact the word 'peace' forms the very core of Indian philosophy, which can most aptly be traced to one of India's ancient scriptures known as the ‘Yajurveda'. It is stated in verse, the English translation of which reads - “May the sky be peaceful; may the atmosphere be peaceful; may the earth be peaceful; may eternal peace cometh upon us”.   Why our country remained a slave to outside forces? These are trying times. Tishani Doshi writes "You would have expected the clocks to freeze". In this once-in-a-century tragedy, when grief sits outside our doors, and then comes in without knocking, there's only memory, meditation or living in the moment which can sustain meaning.   We all make mistakes. Alas, some mistakes are more expensive than others and get counted in human lives. Beyond the mistake, lies redemption and the cure.  But true healing begins when we go beyond the blame, and realize we are also a part of the problem - and have to be a part of the solution.   Reaching out is a way to reach the goodness inside us. And kindness, beyond ourselves, is the only poetry which can save others -and save us.   Be there for friends who need you. Donate to organizations like Give India on giveindia.org. Be positive.
