Benjamin Reigle, founder and host of the Revenue Cycle podcast "My Good Friends," shares his extensive experience in the healthcare industry, including co-founding Health Rise Consulting Firm and leading initiatives at companies like McKinsey & Company and Accredited Health (now R1). He is also the CEO of Tarpon Health, a community driving automation for healthcare providers. In this episode, Benjamin dives into the topic of healthcare change, emphasizing the importance of understanding industry shifts. Stay tuned to gain insights into the evolving landscape of healthcare. The Change Healthcare breach, as discussed in the podcast episode with Benjamin Reigle, has had a profound impact on the healthcare industry. The breach resulted in challenges with claim submission, cash flow, and data security, affecting not only the operations of Change Healthcare but also having a ripple effect on healthcare providers, payers, and patients. The breach led to issues with claim submission, as some payers who relied solely on Change as their intermediary were unable to process claims. This created a backlog of claims and disrupted the revenue cycle for many healthcare organizations. Some providers resorted to manual processes, such as printing and mailing claims, which added complexity and delays to the billing process. Cash flow was significantly impacted by the breach, especially for smaller healthcare entities like physician groups and community hospitals. With claims not being processed efficiently, these organizations faced financial strain due to delayed payments and uncertainty about when the situation would be resolved. The lack of cash flow threatened the financial stability of these smaller entities, highlighting the importance of having contingency plans and backup systems in place. Data security concerns arose as a result of the breach, with questions about the extent of the data compromised and the potential implications for patient privacy. The breach raised questions about the adequacy of security measures in place and the vulnerability of healthcare systems to cyber threats. The need for enhanced data security protocols and proactive measures to prevent future breaches became a pressing issue for healthcare organizations. Experian Health Client Communication February 23, 2024 Experian Health is aware of Change Healthcare's (Optum's) announcement on February 21 about a cybersecurity incident affecting its systems. Experian's Cyber Incident Response team and Cyber Threat Intelligence teams have been engaged and are closely monitoring the situation. We have not seen evidence of a threat to Experian. Out of an abundance of caution and consistent with Experian's security practices, Experian has temporarily severed connectivity to Change Healthcare. During the period of this severed connectivity, there will be an impact to batch and EDI authorizations, claims and remits, claim status, eligibility, and notice of care transactions that Experian Health sends to Change Healthcare. Experian will resume connectivity to Change when it receives assurances from Change Healthcare that it has adequately contained the threat. Payers work with a variety of clearinghouses to process data. In many cases, multiple payer connections are available although sometimes payer connectivity may be limited or even exclusive to a single clearinghouse. In the majority of cases, transactions from Experian Health route directly to the requestedpayer. When connectivity is limited or certain routes are unavailable, however, it is common to route traffic through another clearinghouse. Below is a list of potentially impacted payers. Our teams are actively evaluating and rerouting transactions when an alternative route is available and will provide an update to this list as soon as possible. Dear Ryan, I met Laura 4 years ago at CHOC Children's Hospital. Both our baby girls are brain tumor/Cancer survivors. She is a single mom of 2 beautiful girls. Life has not been easy for my friend these past few years. Laura has been struggling financially…so she started renting out their back house. But recently the tenants stopped paying rent causing her more unnecessary hardship. My friend needs some major Christmas cheering up, Ryan! Help her give her girls the Christmas they deserve! We talk to leaders all the time who are looking for a way to upgrade their skill and unlock a new level of performance. But how does that kind of transformation actually happen? In 2016, Dr. Wayne Combs was in transition. At the crossroads of his career, he knew he was ready for something more – but what? What exactly was he looking for? That summer, Wayne attended Plenty's inaugural Lantern Leadership Retreat in Park City, Utah. Through the experience, he found a new sense of self taking a fresh look at his purpose – one he still use to this day as the Associate VP of Operations & Administrative Services for CHOC Children's Foundation and professor at USC's Rossier School of Education. In today's episode, we talk with Wayne and ask him reflect on the breakthroughs he experienced, how he aligned his soul's calling with his professional work, and how he continues his pursuits as a lifelong learner. We were touched by this conversation and Wayne's incredible depth of passion. We hope it sets you out on your own transformative journey!

The Everyday PM: Project Management Principles for Your Everyday Life
Since 1996, PMI has set the standard of terminology and guidelines for the project management profession. It's been four years since the Project Management Institute (PMI) published the The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) Guide – Sixth Edition. Deemed as one of the most thorough and detailed editions of them all, the Sixth Edition was rigid, outlining the project lifecycle complete with all of the EEFs (Enterprise Environmental Factors) and OPAs (Organizational Process Assets) that fed into and out of each process group. Project managers would be tested on this and much more to be deemed certified project management professionals. However, in the last four years, the project management industry has seen tremendous growth. According to PMI, the profession's labor force is expected to expand by 33% globally through 2027, creating approximately 22 million jobs worldwide. We have also seen the emergence of hybrid project approaches that capture both agile and waterfall methodologies. With the demand for project managers growing faster than the demand for workers in other occupations over the next 10 years, it is by no surprise that PMI deemed it time to release The PMBOK® Guide – Seventh Edition to capture this rapid change. In this week's podcast, Christina, Brian and I breakdown The PMBOK® Guide – Seventh Edition and give our thoughts on the changes. To see a quick rundown of what's changed in the Seventh Edition, check out my video on 7 Facts about The PMBOK® Seventh Edition. For our in-depth video review and to see whether or not we agreed with the changes, tune in to our newest episode of The Everyday PM (video edition) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PdM-tpHDfw Have you had a chance to review The PMBOK® Guide – Seventh Edition? If so, what are your thoughts on the changes? Don't forget - if you're a PMI member, you have access to the digital copy of the The PMBOK® Guide – Seventh Edition as part of your membership. Welcome to episode 24 of The Everyday PM Podcast where I spotlight Mr. Brian Summons, MPSM, PMP, CSM, CSPO, Iraq combat veteran to Senior IT project manager. I remember clapping my hands after Brian spoke up in our virtual class about how gaining a project management certification does not guarantee your success as a project manager. He went on to outline the many attributes that make for a successful and effective project manager, like high emotional intelligence and concise communication skills. This moment is when I knew we had a connection, which is why we have kept a close relationship even after the program was over. For this reason, and many more that I've come to learn about Brian, I have chosen to spotlight him in this week's podcast. Mr. Brian Summons is an Iraq combat veteran, having served in the military for 8 years. Following this experience, Brian made many strategic moves to progress himself from military to civilian life, including learning from mentors about project management. Ultimately, he found himself working in both non-tech and tech PM roles. Listen in on Brian's journey from Iraq combat veteran to Senior IT project manager for CHOC (Children's Hospital of Orange County). What do you think of Brian's journey? Do you share a similar experience? Definitely reach out to Brian to chat more about his personal and professional experiences because he is just that awesome. Welcome to episode 13 of The Everyday PM Podcast where we debate Agile versus Waterfall methodology. Agile versus Waterfall continues to be widely debated. Many argue that Waterfall is an antiquated methodology, despite it still being the most widely used methodology by traditional organizational environments today. Proponents of Agile believe its advantages far outweigh its disadvantages, making it the preferred methodology for organizations wanting to go faster. Brian Summons, Senior Project Manager at CHOC Children's Hospital, and I enthusiastically took up the challenge to debate this topic in the latest episode of The Everyday PM Podcast. Join us as we debate the advantages and disadvantages of these two popular methodologies and the circumstances where it may be more suitable to use one over the other... or dare I say both? Where do you stand in this debate? We would love to hear your thoughts on your preferred methodologies, whether it is Agile, Waterfall, or something completely different. The Mouse Castle Lounge Podcast: Disney News and Interviews, Cocktails and Conversations
For over 50 years, the Children's Hospital of Orange County has provided state of the art pediatric care to children throughout Southern California. Walt Disney himself was among the many community leaders who championed the need for an area children's hospital in the early 1960s and helped make it a reality. CHOC Children's, as it's known today, has grown from a 62-bed children's hospital into a complete pediatric health care system with numerous facilities serving multiple counties. CHOC Children's has been recognized nationally for both its critical care and nursing excellence. Each year, the Disneyland Resort partners with CHOC Children's to put on the CHOC Walk in the Park, the largest single pediatric fundraising event in the country. It's a three-mile stroll through Disneyland, Disney California Adventure and Downtown Disney that draws thousands of participants annually. Since 1990, the CHOC Walk has raised over $24 million to support the health and well-being of children. Joining Tim in The Mouse Castle Lounge today is Zach Abrams, director of special events and corporate relations for the CHOC Children's Foundation. He's going to tell us everything we need to know about this year's event coming up on October 11th. Before we get to Zach, though, Tim wraps up part two of his fascinating conversation with author, historian and former Disney animator Tom Sito. Last week, Tom shared stories about his memorable animation career, where he worked alongside many of the greats including Richard Williams, Shamus Culhane, Art Babbitt, Glen Keane and Eric Goldberg. Tom appeared recently on the PBS American Experience documentary “Walt Disney” and last week he talked at length about the documentary and its portrayal of Walt, his life and his legacy. Tim and Tom pick up that part of the conversation by looking at one of more persistent—and false—rumors that continues to dog Walt Disney's reputation. www.TheMouseCastle.comRSS Feed: http://themousecastle.libsyn.com/rss
