Peter M. Bracke conducted over 200 interviews with cast & crew members to write the most extensive book on the “Friday the 13th” film franchise — 2005's “Crystal Lake Memories.” Tune in to hear how he approached this comprehensive project, his personal thoughts on many of the interviews and controversies reported in the book, and where he'd like to see the F13 franchise go next. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4654832/advertisement
It's a long boat ride to New York City... ...but thankfully you have this podcast to keep you company. In which one host calls this series part of the Mt. Rushmore of horror while ALSO calling this the worst film to ever be featured on this very podcast! The other host is befuddled that there is such a thing as The Tommy Jarvis Saga. And he missed out! So this podcast is basically some Crystal Lake Memories for the fans and uninitiated alike as we join the chorus of complaints about the lack of Manhattan in... JASON TAKES MANHATTAN. But that's what you have a TRILOGY IN THEORY for as this is merely the first part in our horrific journey to New York City! Scotty is back with another episode of Slasher Scotty and his guest is none other than Peter Bracke, who wrote the book on Friday the 13th titled "Crystal Lake Memories" which later had an eight hour documentary made about it. Peter discusses with Scotty why Renee Jones and Rachel Howard turned down the interviews for the book, if he'd consider writing a similar book on the Halloween franchise, which cast members were the hardest to locate for an interview, and much, much more. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/slasherscotty/support

"We've got the podcast, and you've got the ears." This week our hosts continue digging into the slasher genre with 1985's A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, the black sheep of the Nightmare franchise. Originally dismissed for not following the format established by fan-favorite part 3, it has since been looked at with new eyes for its... less than subtle... subtext exploring teenage homosexuality. But does that mean it holds up as a film? Be sure to check out Mark Patton's documentary Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street as well as the segment in Crystal Lake Memories for lots of crazy details in the making of this film. Check out the full episode details
Our year-long look at the Friday the 13th franchise comes full circle, as Ian, Lee, and Crystal Lake Memories author Peter M. Bracke review Marcus Nispel's 2009 remake! After two "final" installments, a trip to space, and a showdown with Freddy Krueger, it turns out the only thing capable of stopping the Crystal Lake Killer are dueling factions of lawyers! It's been over a decade since the Michael Bay-produced blockbuster took theatres by storm--only to remain sequel-free as rights issues tied up any future installments.Today, the guys look at the reboot's surprising pluses, not-so-surprising minuses, and spend a gratuitous amount of time talking about nudity (in the context of the film's controversial, copious flesh). Special thanks to Peter for joining us on the last few episodes, and for everyone who's watched or listened during 2020--which has become a horror movie all its own!And don't worry: If Jason Voorhees rises from his watery grave someday, we'll be here talking about it!Show Links:Watch the Friday the 13th (2009) trailer.Follow Lee Shoquist at ChicagoFilm.Buy the Crystal Lake Memories book.Rent/Buy the Crystal Lake Memories documentary.Order Scream Factory's Friday the 13th: The Complete Collection Blu-ray box set.Subscribe to, like, and comment on the Kicking the Seat YouTube channel!

Happy Halloween! Movie guru Michael Scott returns to the podcast to talk about his love for the Friday the 13th films. How did a low-budget 1980 horror movie spawn a franchise and draw in millions of fans? Is it all about the hockey mask? As it turns out, Michael's first foray into the series was Friday the 13th, Part VI: Jason Lives, which led him to devour the rest of the "Jason Movies." Michael has also read a few books on our friend Mr. Vorhees, including Crystal Lake Memories, written by author Peter M. Bracke. As Michael notes, Jason not only inspired numerous splatter flicks, the Friday the 13th films influenced non-horror movies, too, such as the Terminator and Rambo series. And yet, it's been more than ten years since the last Jason movie. Has Hollywood given up, or does Tinseltown just need a few good ideas? Have no fear, Colin and Michael have some thoughts. And it turns out Danny McBride may be the man to revive the series. You can check out Michael at the popular Dana Buckler Show movie podcast: https://linktr.ee/DanaBucklerShow. Michael also has his own podcast, Adkins Undisputed, available at https://anchor.fm/adkinsundisputedpodcast.
Today, the Kicking the Seat Podcast and Lee Shoquist of ChicagoFilm.com welcome back Crystal Lake Memories author Peter M. Bracke for a “Friday the 40th” look at Jason X! This bizarre Freddy Vs. Jason placeholder is definitely a product of its time, foregoing traditional slasher movie conventions for Scream-style self-awareness, crossed with sci-fi concepts (and Sci-Fi Channel production values). The guys get (semi) serious about what went wrong with the film, which finds Crystal Lake killer Jason Voorhees resurrected nearly five hundred years in the future on a spaceship populated by sarcastic high school science students. No joke.As a bonus, Peter shares some exclusive insights about the making of Scream Factory’s recently released deluxe Blu-ray box set of the entire Friday the 13th series. Also, Ian reviews Cooper Raiff’s brilliant new college dramedy, Shithouse (now available On Demand and playing at Chicago’s Music Box Theatre), and invites you to watch his YouTube-exclusive interview with writer/director/star Cooper Raiff. You can also watch the video version of this Jason X chat on YouTube!Lastly, don’t forget to join Ian and the “Scare-a-Thon” gang on tonight’s YouTube livestream, where they’ll celebrate thirty-five years of Lamberto Bava’s Demons! This week we kick off our coverage on arguably the greatest franchise in horror film history: A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. Born from the childhood nightmares of Wes Craven, Freddy Kreuger transformed from a horror villain to a pop culture icon that appeared on MTV, awards shows, lunch boxes, comic books, action figures, posters and anything else you could print his likeness on. That's quite a feat for a burned up, child-killing dream demon. As portrayed by Robert Englund, Freddy was a monster with personality. For our first episode we're joined by writer/producer Thommy Hutson (Never Sleep Again, Crystal Lake Memories, Scream: The Inside Story, author of Y/A thriller Jinxed) to breakdown why this movie resonates 36 years later. From Freddy's development as a villain, to the tenaciousness that separates Nancy from other horror heroines, to Craven's own psychological demons that informed his work-especially the way the sins of parents come back to traumatize the children-we are just scratching the surface on what will be a two part episode of the debut film. Robert Bresson, director of this week's Pickpocket and numerous films that helped define the French New Wave, was known to be a task master on set. In his search for absolute separation of art from artifice, he demanded his actors strip away all affectation and just deliver their lines simply and rotely. This often required as many as fifty takes of a single shot or scene! Dan and Vicky discuss the film that inspired a generation of filmmakers from Schrader to Scorsese to Soderbergh. Our hosts, hint hint, weren't AS inspired. In the recently seen section, there's talk of films Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, 1984's Savage Streets, Hotel Artemis, The Exorcist III, Friday the 13th doc Crystal Lake Memories, and comedy from Sebastian Maniscalco, Tiffany Hadish, and Julio Torres. Dan tells us why he made his first ER visit, his further adventures with MoviePass and the drama off and on stage in his new play Caesar & Cleopatra while Vicky talks about her late summer vacation plans! Recently, the Grue-Crew reviewed THE HAUNTING OF SHARON TATE on the Gruesome Magazine podcast. Our review of the film was mixed but positive, basically praising the director, actress Hilary Duff, and the cinematography; but, we were not certain we fully understood the intention of the film itself. Now, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to interview the director of the film, Daniel Farrands. We are grateful Mr. Farrands was available to fill in the clues and plot elements we missed along the way. And, boy, did he ever. This 45-minute interview is ripe with behind the scenes tidbits and insights. Daniel Farrands is a director, writer, and producer who began his genre career writing the screenplay for Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers. He is also the producer of The Girl Next Door, The ID, and The Haunting in Connecticut. He is also responsible for a series of horror movie documentaries: Never Sleep Again The Elm Street Legacy; Scream The Inside Story; Crystal Lake Memories; and. more. More recently, Daniel Farrands is behind the camera once again for The Amityville Murders, The Haunting of Sharon Tate, and the soon to be released The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson. While the interview centers around the making and the script behind The Haunting of Sharon Tate, we do touch on the other films and his entire career. Join Jeff Mohr, Crystal Cleveland, and Doc Rotten for this must-listen interview with the director, producer, and writer Daniel Farrands.
Daniel Farrands made a name for himself in the horror documentary scene and is pivoting that skill into narrative features. He talks to the boys about the challenges of adapting a true crime story and gives a genuinely honest and peculiar answer on whether or not he believes in ghosts. In the intro, Randy and Russ talk about Piercing and everyone jumps in for The Man Who Killed Hitler and then the Bigfoot. The Amityville Murders is out in theatres (select)/VOD February 8th! Topics include Crystal Lake Memories, the expansive documentary, chronicling the Friday the 13th franchise, 90's cyber/tech thrillers, Orson Oblowitz's The Queen of Hollywood Boulevard and 90's throwback slasher Lost After Dark. Also, find out how Mitch is getting on with the ShockWaves 100 and learn the identity of the guest and film for this week's show! ALSO, we have another instalment of MITCH'S PITCHES! Due to his well documented ignorance towards films, Mitch is shown a film poster with all titles, taglines etc removed and tasked with attempting to decipher the plot. Will it go well? The poster image can be seen below with the image that Mitch was working from on the left... This week Chris and Josh are joined by Matt Kelly from The Saint Mort Show and Horror Movie Night podcasts to talk all about your favourite razor-handed killer, Freddy Krueger. For our second, more streamlined, movie specific episode we decided to skip the Wes Craven original and dive right into the bizarre, at times, "what were they thinking?" follow-up that is "Freddy's Revenge". Directed by Jack Sholder this picks up five years after the original and promises some more Freddy, a possession angle you weren't expecting, a bedroom dance sequence so common in 80's flicks, and a whole lot of thinly veiled homosexuality. So join us as we led you through this second venture into Springwood! But first we'll tell you what we've been watching and talk about such films as Crystal Lake Memories, Lucy, Cheap Thrills, and even Gnaw: Food of the Gods 2! Thanks for listening! Be sure to head to iTunes to subscribe and drop us a five star rating/review - every little bit helps! Links to all our web stuff at www.gbwpodcast.com
