Yes, he loves his cosy crime shows, but doesn't everyone secretly love a mystery? We start with the rules of detective fiction before our talk turns to Agatha Christie and Dame Angela Lansbury, how you can do a solve-along-a with a murder, and the advantages of having two shows at the Fringe where one is guaranteed to get the ticket sales.

DescriptionWith the passing of Dame Angela Lansbury in 2022, it reminded me of one of my favourite Sondeim musicals, Sweeney Todd. She played the first Mrs Lovett in 1979. Take a minute to get the scoop!Dame Angela Lansbury singing The Worst Pies in London.Fun FactThe original production of Sweeney Todd opened on Broadway March 1, 1979, at the Uris Theatre (now the Gershwin). The show, featuring music and lyrics by Sondheim and a book by Wheeler, was directed by Harold Prince and starred Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury. The production received eight Tony Awards in 1979—including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score—as well as 11 Drama Desk Awards and the Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Musical. It went on to be revived twice on Broadway and adapted into a 2007 film, in addition to the recent Off-Broadway production.__________________________________________________________________About Steven, HostSteven is a Canadian composer & actor living in Toronto. Warning: This episode contains spoilers for Episode One of  'Little Women'. This is an encore release of an earlier podcast episode. Dame Angela Lansbury was an acting icon for more than 75 years. Her credits spanned from Gaslight, Mame, and Murder, She Wrote to Beauty and the Beast and Little Women. She died in October 2022, and left behind a rich legacy of characters that are as iconic and memorable as the actor herself. As PBS re-broadcasts MASTERPIECE's 2018 production of Little Women, we thought we'd revisit our 2018 conversation with her as she takes us through highlights of her prodigious career and reveals what she learned on the "Little Women" set.

This week's episode is an honorable tribute to late acting legend Dame Angela Lansbury who passed away tranquilly last year at ninety six. Dame Angela Lansbury was an Irish-British and American actress, dancer and singer whose extraordinary career graced the silver screen, prime time television and the stage. Her career had humble beginnings as she took small roles in classic low budget movies after signing a contract with MGM. Her breakout role was in The Manchurian Candidate (1962). This catapulted her into stardom and gave her an opening to branch out into Broadway. From Mame to Gypsy to Sweeney Todd to the King and I, she commanded the stage with star power. But, she was far from done with Hollywood as she gravitated toward sweet, matronly roles in children's films. She gained much notoriety as the voice of Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. Who can forget her magical antics in Bedknobs and Broomsticks? Anastasia, Nanny McPhee and Mary Poppins Returns are other family films she so beautifully acted in. Murder She Wrote, as we all know, was the television hit show that featured her as a widowed mystery writer who was also an amateur sleuth. Her impressive array of awards includes six Tony Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award, six Golden Globes, a Laurence Olivier Award, an Honorary Academy Award, eighteen Primetime Emmy Awards and a Grammy. Peter Shaw was her producer husband whom she was married to for over fifty years until his passing. They had two children whom she had to rescue from the Charles Manson Cult and drugs when they hit their teenaged years. So charitable and loving, she was very active in AIDS awareness and in helping struggling artists get their big break. Along with my trusted co-host, good friend and performing arts connoisseur Anthony Bonilla, I pay an homage to the legacy of one of the most beloved actresses of all time.

In this episode (in honor of her passing) I decided to talk about Dame Angela Lansbury, and what I consider to be her contribution to the wide world of horror that we all know and love: Murder, She Wrote. Why do I consider a family-oriented mystery show to be part of the larger world of horror entertainment, and even an important one? Is the tiny town where Jessica Fletcher lives, Cabot Cove, the true murder capital of the fictional world? And the truly critical question: was Jessica Fletcher the murderer all along?! I am getting a little silly this week and answering all those questions, and I even found some crossover fan fiction for your bedtime story which pits our hero Jessica against none other than The Thing from John Carpenter's 1982 film. Why take an episode to talk about the mildest, most inoffensive murders ever to be portrayed on television? Because Angela Lansbury has more than earned it, and this is my way of thanking her for the hours and hours of entertainment she's provided me with. She is the Mistress of Mild Murder, and as such, also Creeptastic! Advertise on Creeptastic! Support Creeptastic on Patreon! Contact me and find links to social media at Creeptastic.com!

Hello once again! Welcome to the WORLD'S GREATEST Podcast about video games. We are glad to have you! Our topic this week is a game that originally came out in 2020 as a early access. It's name??? Well, it's called Grounded. Chris says it's a classic "tree puncher" - a term he says that we all should know (to his real life friends) - however, I (Shaun) have never heard of it. So this game is actually a survival and sometimes horror game. The catch, your like tiny - think "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" small. And there's ants, lady bugs, spiders....ummmmm...and they're "Normal Sized". The cool thing Chris mentions is that the game actually has a story in a way that only Obsidian can do it. Overall, Chris really enjoyed this game so much so - that if you own a PC or Xbox and can get this on GamePass....he said to do it. Have fun and play with friends. That's what it's all about isn't - having fun and playing with your friends. Shot out to the Twitch chat and to everyone who came out to twitch and saw us on twitch.tv/weeklygameschat. Based on the Salem trials in Massachusetts in 1692, where young girls accused their elders of satanism, a new production of Arthur Miller's modern classic The Crucible has just opened at the National Theatre in London. Actor Erin Doherty, best known for her portrayal of a young Princess Anne in Netflix series The Crown, plays Abigail Williams, the girl whose spurned affections spark the witch hunt. She joins Jessica. Strip clubs in Edinburgh will be banned from April next year, but the venues and the strippers who work in them are fighting the decision. Supporters of the ban say it's upholding the Scottish Government's strategy on Violence Against Women and Girls which says stripping encompasses and engenders violence against women and girls. But strippers say it will impact their ability to earn a living and force them into dangerous working conditions at underground clubs. Jessica is joined by Tess Herrman from the Union of Sex Workers and also by former Labour councillor and Scotsman columnist Susan Dalgety. Dame Angela Lansbury, who won international acclaim as the star of the US TV crime series Murder, She Wrote, has died at the age of 96. The three-time Oscar nominee had a career spanning eight decades, across film, theatre and TV. She was born in London in 1925. When she moved to New York, she was discovered by a film executive who gave her, her first role as a maid in the 1944 film Gaslight. In 1973, Woman's Hour presenter Sue McGregor caught up with Dame Angela when she was performing in the stage show Gypsy. As university students settle in, are you experiencing empty nest syndrome? Listener Natalie Paddick got in touch to tell us about her feelings of loss now that all her children have left home. She joins Jessica along with author Celia Dodd who's written about the Empty Nest subtitled, 'Your Changing Family, Your New Direction'. For our occasional series Girl's World, Ena Miller went to talk to 14-year-olds Ruby, Nyima and Azelea at their school in Stroud. A Brazilian butt lift is a procedure where fat, usually from the stomach and back, is injected into the buttocks to change their shape and size. In 2018 - after the death of Leah Cambridge who had flown to Turkey to have the surgery - the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, or BAAPS, advised their members not to perform them. But this week they've released new recommendations they hope will make the procedure safer. Joining Jessica are the President of BAAPS, Marc Pacifico, and director Louise Coleman whose documentary The Bottom Line is on ITV Hub.

Dame Angela Lansbury is a screen legend. Most younger audiences would know Angela for playing mystery writer Jessica Fletcher in Murder, She Wrote as well as the witch in Disney's Bedknobs and Broomsticks. We discuss two of Angela's much earlier roles in this episode of When Movies Were Good. In The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945) Lansbury plays the love interest of Dorian Gray, a young and wealthy Londoner who makes a wish to stay forever young while his portrait ages for him and takes on the consequences of all his actions. Based on the novel by Oscar Wilde. In the next movie The Court Jester (1955) Lansbury is a Medieval courtier in a satirical play on the Robin Hood genre. Danny Kaye brings all his slapstick skills to good use to foil the plans of an evil usurper king.

When she was 17, Dame Angela Lansbury quit her job at a department store to take a part in a movie, as 17-year-olds are wont to do. She played a young maid to Ingrid Bergman’s character in Gaslight, a film that garnered seven Oscar nominations and two wins, including one for Best Actress for Bergman. It’s the typical tale of a young actress trying to make it big and having to struggle, role after role after role after role, to hold her own on screen with the most celebrated actors in the world, on Oscar-winning film after Oscar-winning film. She’s now 93 years old and has been in the business for nearly eight decades, dominating the big screen, the small screen and the stage. For this episode of Pop Rocket, we felt it important to give Dame Lansbury’s career a discussion worthy of the legend that she is, and we couldn’t do it by ourselves. We needed to bring in the biggest Fangelas we could find outside of her immediate family: April Wolfe and S.A. Smythe, two individuals that get positively giddy noting which Murder She Wrote episodes comment on on colonialism and the prison industrial complex. In honor of Pandy's stage commitments at time of release, Hey, an Actor! enlists the help of Dame Angela Lansbury to make sense of their shared theatrical credit of The Pirates of Penzance. The Brothers Wilson not only cover this famed 1983 theatrical movie, but Lansbury's Oscar-nominated turn in The Manchurian Candidate, and her starring role opposite HAA's patron saint David Tomlinson in Bedknobs and Broomsticks. The episode features perhaps its strongest film recommendation since Smokey and the Bandit, as well as multiple references to English actor Jim Dale, and where the Tim Allen sitcom Home Improvement improbably correlates with one of our featured films. Additionally, Pandy uses the episode to road-test new characters such as Jakko Warner, EmailBot, and Statistician Vincent, whilst Ian is reunited with one of TABHAL's greatest running jokes: Rex Smith and his acting masterclass.
