Welcome to At The Cap Table podcast, a new series that shines the spotlight on the investors who are changing the vc industry in Europe. Today your host Savs Tan welcomes Deepali Nangia, Partner at Speedinvest. Speedinvest is a hands-on, pan-European early stage tech investor, partnering with founders from their early stages and helping them to grow game changing businesses. The Speedinvest team is one of the most active investors in Europe and last year announced 500m€ of fresh capital to invest in new ventures, and to continue to back their existing portfolio. The firm manages more than €1 billion in AuM and although it started in Austria, counts a team of over 40 investors based in Berlin, London, Munich, and Paris.Deepali joined Speedinvest as a Partner with a focus on finding, funding, and supporting investment in underrepresented founders but the majority of her time in venture capital has been as an angel investor, supporting startups from day 1.In this episode you'll learn:– About how Deepali's thesis in investing in female founders came through her own experiences of being underestimated in the workplace – How cleaning up the cap table is a myth: angels can continue to add value beyond capital and are a vital support for founders in a way that VCs cannot be, particularly in the early stages– Demystifying investment for operators could create a better angel ecosystem and is just as important as access to deal flow– Deepali's move from independent Angel to Partner at Speedinvest was not planned - she got to know the team and look at deals together before they developed a Venture Partner role for her, and she gradually became more and more involved with the firm before joining full time
In this episode of the SaaS Revolution Show our host Alex Theuma is joined by Ed Lascelles, Partner at AlbionVC, and Deepali Nangia, Partner at Speedinvest, who share their experience as VCs on the early days of SaaS startups. Ed and Deepali share:

Encouraged, supported, and even challenged by her family and influential teachers along the way, Trehan's remarkable journey is an inspiration for everyone from students thinking about engineering to teachers, leaders, and mentors looking to invest their time and energy into others. How can I build the mindset of embracing and learning from failures and setbacks and build that resilience? It's never a story of how you became successful. Shownotes: Journalists and PR professionals don't always trust each other, even though there is a mutual dependence - journalists are wary of spin, and the PR pro is worried about a negative angle or a hatchet job. However, it is possible to foster trust based on good ethics, respect and professionalism. My guest Deepali Gupta is a journalist with nearly 2 decades of experience working with some of the most prestigious Indian and global publications (Indian Express, Dow Jones, Wall Street Journal, Economic Times). We reconnected when she moved to the UK last summer with her family; as diaspora forging a new relationship based on our shared stories, experiences and love of India. She is not my typical guest, but I grew interested in talking to her when I read about how skewed the ratio is between men and women business authors. In the episode we also spoke about Deepali's journey to becoming a journalist covering finance, equity markets, conglomerates

This week's guest is Deepali Nangia, winner of the 2021 UK BAA Angel Investor award. She is the co-founder of Alma Angels, a venture partner in Speedinvest, a venture capital fund; and an angel investor in Atomico Angel. With just 1% of venture funding going to businesses founded by female teams Deepali reveals why she invests in female-led businesses. Lou and Deepali discussed how she was working in the city, reaching senior level for 12 years, and what that environment like for her as an asian woman and often ‘the only woman in the room' We talked about how she was passed over for promotion – ie demoted to the ‘Mummy track” at a city firm. But she got into angel investing, saw there was an inequality there too and decided to be part of the solution. She defines courage as embracing the fact that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
